The Aspiring Archivist any pronouns Posted May 29, 2023 Posted May 29, 2023 Just now, Channelknight Fadran said: "So what exactly... are you?" Ayia asked. "That is hard to explain. I was a human. Part of an order pursuing a... certain magic. But then, I became an anomaly to them. A Variance, if you will. So they killed me. That wasn't quite enough, clearly." They had come into full focus now, though they still had that odd quality in their vision.
Szeth Pancakes he/they Posted May 29, 2023 Author Posted May 29, 2023 “Why did they kill you?” 50,000 meters.

Channelknight Fadran Posted May 29, 2023 Posted May 29, 2023 "What kind of magic were you practicing?"
Szeth Pancakes he/they Posted May 29, 2023 Author Posted May 29, 2023 “But how did that threaten them? And what made you into an anomaly in the first place?” 70,000 meters.

"These things... are still hard to speak of. Truthfully, there are some things that I would rather not answer as well. About my past."
Szeth Pancakes he/they Posted May 29, 2023 Author Posted May 29, 2023 “I… understand.” Allera sighed. “I know how you feel.” 100,000 meters.

Channelknight Fadran Posted May 29, 2023 Posted May 29, 2023 Ayia shrugged. "I dunno. You're the one insisting we get off the planet."
Szeth Pancakes he/they Posted May 29, 2023 Author Posted May 29, 2023 The altitude meter disappeared, and was replaced by vector readouts. Allera closed out of that, and selected a button that said “Plot a Course.” “I can’t be seen in any major systems,” they said, still facing the control panel, “so that’s out. The Mages can read minds, so I can’t just put on a holo, either.”
Channelknight Fadran Posted May 29, 2023 Posted May 29, 2023 "So... I take it this isn't a major system?"
Szeth Pancakes he/they Posted May 29, 2023 Author Posted May 29, 2023 “Definitely not. It’s very backwater. Technically, it’s still part of the Kkhlie, but their reach doesn’t really extend this far.”
Channelknight Fadran Posted May 29, 2023 Posted May 29, 2023 Ayia crossed her arms. "Would you care to explain why there's such a large bounty on your head?"

Szeth Pancakes he/they Posted May 29, 2023 Author Posted May 29, 2023 “My mate and I were theives, and us and our crew stole something we really shouldn’t have. “I’m the only one of us still alive. “Can we- can we not talk about it? Please.”
Channelknight Fadran Posted May 29, 2023 Posted May 29, 2023 Ayia nodded, turning away. "My best friend and I were thieves too. And then we were rebels. He didn't make it either."
Szeth Pancakes he/they Posted May 29, 2023 Author Posted May 29, 2023 Allera nodded, pressing some buttons on the panel. “If you get out of the system,” they said to Variance, “do you think it would help with your curse?”
NameIess Posted May 29, 2023 Posted May 29, 2023 (edited) A suspiciously warm ray of light exited the void of space and enters into the spaceship, bouncing between the walls for a fraction of a millisecond before losing interest, shooting back into space and, in a move rather atypical of normal light, turning to aim towards the planet below. A very short time later the light reached the surface of the planet and turned again, ricocheting off the scales of the stardragon there and briefly shining a blindingly bright light in the direction of the excited man speaking to the dragon before coming to a rest in a happy-seeming ray that could almost be mistaken for a normal stream of sunshine, if only the sun in question wasn't completely veiled in dark storm clouds. @The Bookwyrm @xinoehp512 Edited May 30, 2023 by Nameless* Forgot a word
Channelknight Fadran Posted May 29, 2023 Posted May 29, 2023 Quote That was... quite the run-on sentence

There are a few places we can go from there — we can discuss on the way.” They pressed more buttons on the panel. Edited May 30, 2023 by Szeth_Pancakes

Szeth Pancakes he/they Posted May 30, 2023 Author Posted May 30, 2023 The walls of the “hideout” — which still looked like those of a cave — began to whirr softly.
