Jaster jerked back. "What in the- you can TALK?"

"Oh, yes. I can talk. Learning to do so was a little tricky, not having vocal cords and all, but I managed it quite some time ago."

Ayia raised an eyebrow at him. "Is that a normal thing you tend to do?"

"When I wish to." He spun it around in his hand. "I'm just seeing how much is coming back to me, and how fast."

By the way, in terms of pronouns, he/they are both fine.

"Care to explain to us how your magic... works? What it does?"

"I was a human being who gained access to a perception-based form of magic. It is ancient, primarily used for illusions. Uniquely, I gained the ability to manifest things with a much greater impact on reality, like this staff. I'm still not entirely sure how it works or what it is capable of. Anyway, now that I was killed, I am no longer human. I am not entirely sure what I am."

"Interesting. Perception-bending." Ayia nodded appreciatively. "There's probably a lot you can do with that."

"There certainly is." Suddenly, Ayia's vision doubled, then shifted, as though she were severely dizzy.

She blinked a couple times. "Ooo! That's effective!"

"Yes. Normally, that would be the extent of it, but I can also do things like this." Ayia felt a strong shove on her chest, pushing her back.

"In general, it isn't very kind to push on a lady's chest."

"...Ah. I apologize. It was easier, and likely less painful than your head or stomach."

Ayia dismissed his concern with a wave. "I'm teasing. Mostly."

Variance nodded. He rubbed his eyes, hand coming back stained red. "That's quite a lot of blood."

Huh. Allera had never seen anyone without a stone do things like that. They continued tapping on the control panel, even though the ship essentially flew itself.

Variance suddenly began spasming, staff dropping to the ground and scattering into little points of light. He coughed blood, and fell to the ground.

"Oh Gales!" Allera rushed over to them. "Are you...okay?"

The spasming ceased, and Variance laid on the ground for a moment, breathing heavily. "That was... unexpected. Which isn't a good sign."

"I know some people who might be able to help with your curse, if you want."

"I won't ask that of you. Besides, the magic involved in this is very... obscure." Variance lifted himself up, carefully. "If there's more to this than I first realized, I'm worried about what other elements there might be to this curse. I don't know if it's been long enough for that group of mine to dissolve..."

I added a bit.
