There was one guy, just beginning the ascent of the steepest cliffsides to the Caves. A metal elemental; yeah, she'd seen him around here and there. But if he was on his own, why was he talking? And why had she heard more than one voice? He was another trainee, though. From what she could tell there wasn't any point in sabotaging each other, so there probably wasn't anything wrong by making a few extra allies. "Hello!" Kaeni called out. @Frustration @The Bookwyrm @NerdyAarakocra 1 hour ago, Frustration said: "Hello!" a voice called out. Isek flattened himself against the cliff face, carefully looking around until he found the source of the voice, a collection of people bellow him. "Hey, I think we have company, the kind that won't try to kill us." Ast'avi glanced down. She'd made better progress than she'd assumed, though Il'anque was still much farther than her. The elf had climbed beyond the toughest point and fastened a rope for her companions to use. Which was nice. Avi had not been looking forward to trying to climb that roof section basically upside-down. With a few minor earth spells, she'd managed to magnetize her hands to the stones. Wizardry was an incredibly helpful tool, and Avi was grateful for it; but it didn't click with her in the way her Starmagic did. She'd been spending years learning Wizardry, but the powers granted by her divine ancestry gave her far more prowess and skill than lifetimes worth of studying would. But her Starmagic couldn't keep her safe from falling while climbing a vertical cliff face, so she'd take Wizardry at the moment. The source of the voice seemed to be another cadet in a red uniform. She had a bow strapped to her back and fire-red hair. I recognize her...Avi realized. It was Kaeni, a fire elemental, and one of Avi's fellow Acolytes. An ally. Avi temporarily disengaged her cloak's magic, coming back into visibility so that Kaeni could see her. "Greetings," she called. "Do you have anyone else with you?" @NerdyAarakocra Quote Are we part-way up the third layer, or still just at the start?
Channelknight Fadran Posted January 9, 2023 Author Posted January 9, 2023 Quote I figured right at the start. Kaeni started. "Whoa! You can turn invisible?"
NerdyAarakocra They/Them Posted January 9, 2023 Posted January 9, 2023 Il'anque removed the hood of the invisibility cloak. "We fought some Aki'lera on the way up. Their pelts are actually pretty useful, as you can see. Or, rather, not see, because we used them to make some invisibility cloaks."
Channelknight Fadran Posted January 9, 2023 Author Posted January 9, 2023 Kaeni giggled a little. It really did sound like a little girl's. "Can we join you on the way up? Safety in numbers and all."
NerdyAarakocra They/Them Posted January 9, 2023 Posted January 9, 2023 (edited) "Sure! You can use the rope to help you get up." Hopefully this would be a relatively easy climb. Il'anque addressed Avi. "Hey, could you try to find good resting points for us to take brakes? We probably can't climb the third layer all in one go, and you're better at plotting routes than I am." @The Bookwyrm@Channelknight Fadran Edited January 10, 2023 by NerdyAarakocra Adding @s.

Or, well... the lack of it, anyways.

She climbed to Il'anque's rope, then carefully used it to navigate the roof section. She managed to finish the worst part, then passed Il'anque and climbed a little higher until she had a good view of the cliff above her. A vision suddenly struck her; she and some other Acolytes standing on a strangely wide crystal formation jutting from the cliff's face. The vision ended, and Avi glanced up. A fair distance away she saw the corresponding crystal formation, large and domineering compared to the rest of the structures on the cliff. That's...strange, she thought. Her visions had never been that specific or utilitarian outside of combat. "I see a large crystal we can rest on," she called down to Il'anque. "It's just past halfway to the peak from here. If we're lucky, nothing will try to kill us, and this last stretch will end up being the easiest." @NerdyAarakocra @Frustration @Channelknight Fadran @Anyone else in Fadran's party who should come roleplay with us again

Channelknight Fadran Posted January 11, 2023 Author Posted January 11, 2023 “Great!” Almost there. Kaeni began to climb.
NerdyAarakocra They/Them Posted January 11, 2023 Posted January 11, 2023 (edited) Il'anque looked at the crystal formation. It looked like a good resting stop, and would provide a crucial area to rest their weary limbs. Il'anque began to climb. This climb was primarily a slab - a rock face that was steeply inclined. For these routes, it helped to locate small eroded rivulets where meltwater sometimes rushed down. They would provide good traction. However, those slabs tended to have less hand and footholds, so Il'anque would have to rely on smearing, using the friction of her footwear against the rock without an actual hold. This wouldn't work on an overhang, but on a slab it would. At one point, her foot slipped, but she was able to recover. Eventually, she found a crack in the rock face leading upwards, which she used to climb. Eventually, she got to the level of the crystal formation, where she traversed over to it by swinging on a surprisingly good hold nearby. @The Bookwyrm @Frustration Edited January 12, 2023 by NerdyAarakocra

Channelknight Fadran Posted January 12, 2023 Author Posted January 12, 2023 Quote Y'all do realize that this mountain is covered in stone branches, right? A dry spot would be incredibly unlikely. But oh well. I'm not the climber here, after all. We'll go with it. "Umm... no." Kaeni looked down at her hands. The fingers were still trembling slightly from all that energy she'd used up earlier. "Can't you just stick yourself to the wall or something?" Quote Update: Kaeni doesn't know how electric charges work.
NerdyAarakocra They/Them Posted January 12, 2023 Posted January 12, 2023 "I'm afraid that I can't help either. I might be able to grow some vines, but that's about it. There's no soil here to grow a tree, and this is too tall for that trick anyways."

"Tl'ik," she cursed. We do not need another monster right now. An idea struck her. But she hesitated, as it would mean a very obvious use of starmagic. Wizards couldn't make glowing platforms using the elements. They've already seen you use it, a part of her said. If they don't already suspect you're a Warlock Demigod, they'll figure it out soon enough. Avi sighed and channeled the magic in her blood. Starlight solidified into shimmering white platforms, slightly translucent, that formed a stairway up to the crystal platform. She jumped from her position on the rock wall and landed on one of the platforms. She felt the strength draining from her body at an alarming rate. "Get everyone up to the crystal, now!" she yelled. "I don't know how long I can hold this!"
Channelknight Fadran Posted January 13, 2023 Author Posted January 13, 2023 Kaeni didn’t hesitate. She scrambled up, leaning down from the top to help up the others.
NerdyAarakocra They/Them Posted January 13, 2023 Posted January 13, 2023 Il'anque, already on the crystal, threw a rope to help people get up.
