I promise I like a lot of the characters but I always like people that

1) have to learn to lead 

2) make things happen behind the scenes 

so I just feel like these three characters just fit the best

I am really bad at ranking stuff, but Kelsier is my unbeatable number one favorite. Then I'd go with Nale, Vin, Elend, Amaram, Dalinar, Szeth, Pattern, Vivenna, Mraize, Taln and Hrathen in no particular order.

My favorite is Hoid. Second is Pattern. Third is...probably Kelsier.

Other than that, it's a jumbled mess of favorite characters.

I was also surprised that there were no female characters in my top 5. I generally love reading about them and some of them are definitely in my top 10.

I have spoken about it quite a lot, but it's been a while. I have always read him as a deeply religious man who believed his end goal of returning his gods was the morally correct thing to do, but struggled with his conscience after commiting various heinous acts to that end. I find that interpretation of him fascinating, but it more and more seems like Brandon went more with him just being a selfish prick, which is not as interesting or sympathetic in my opinion. And even if he turns out to be 100% percent non-disputably selfish I'd still like him, just because I have spent waaay to much time defending him to not grow attached to him. 

I also just find villains/morally ambigous characters generally interesting.

I agree with that. I was just thinking that you liked Moash as a person. Like how people like Captain America because what he does is cool. I do agree that he is a extremely complex character that is brilliantly created. Taravangian is also one of those kind of villains. Very good insight, I've never thought about Moash in that way before.
