  1. It's too soon to generalize like this. We've only seen Crytics through Shallan and After WoR, I think the whole Crytics/lies connection might be taken the wrong way. What we've seen considered as a lie by a Cryptic is not what most people would define as lying.
  2. Edgedancers' primary attribute is loving, not caring. Also, Truthwatchers are secretive, not creepy. Lirin isn't the type to speak out his plans. The way he stole the spheres and planned to mislead Roshone he was about to give them back fits better with Truthwatchers. Think of how the death of his patients didn't bother him as much as it bothered Kal or Lift. Both of them thought it's up to them to care for the weak - 'I will protect those who can't protect themselves' and 'I will remember those who have been forgotten'. Both Kal and Lift feel over responsible towards people they've barely met. Something Lirin was trying to teach his son not to do. Lirin has always find Hesina's word games and the like annoying, which contradicts with Edgedancers tendency to be articulate and eloquent, but fits with Truthwatchers, who prefer not to speak as much. Lirin is an outsider like Renarin and was ok with it. Lirin is an observing man well aware of others motives, which can be viewed as part of being learned. Lirin also thought of Laral's engagement and suffering as none of his business, whereas Lift felt for an animal that took her awesomeness away. edit: spelling
  3. There are some very good reasons for Adolin to not become KR. Many internal conflicts will come from this - for once in his life he will be the least important person in his family of 3 KR, a king and a former queen. Also, he will struggle to be in a relationship with a woman more powerful and influential than he is, which hasn't happened before mainly because he was on the top of the social chain. While I don't think he'll envy them or form a grudge, it will be more interesting to read how he deals with not being as special as he used to be. I don't think Kaladin will be blamed for Sadeas murder as everyone knew he defeated the assassin, then came back for a pack and spheres to go save the day elsewhere. I doubt any Radiant will be accused of the murder. I don't know if Adolin will confide in anyone. He will suddenly feel kind of intimidated or detached (can't think of a better word, will edit it if I do) from his former closest people. Unexpectedly both Shallan and Renarin have been keeping secrets from him. I think he'll feel incredibly lonely for a while. I put my spheres on telling Kaladin. It's something to move forward their bromance, so the secret of who killed Sadeas will wait until Kal is back. Shallan will likely have tons of trouble with her brothers around. An alcoholic, a pyromaniac... It won't be easy to control them and they will make a mess. Shallan will also struggle from all the attention she'll get as a KR and the Ghostbloods will be her escape. I wonder how she'll explain this to Jasnah... I disagree Mraize thinks of her as a soulcaster, he already denied it and while he could have been lying, the Ghostbloods likely have plenty of soulcasters and only one Lightweaver, so they'll use her other abilities for their goals. But they will need to tempt her with far more then solely her brothers. There's potential for conflicts between Dalinar and Shallan, mainly on her part. Also, I think Kaladin or Renarin, even Jasnah (when she comes back) are better matches for his right hand.
  4. Lirin always told Kaladin he cared too much and he must learn to accept death. Lift, like Kal, has seen much death, but never grew use to it. She felt strong compassion towards a boy she just met and almost died to save him. Lirin doesn't have the same mind set. He is caring, but he also doesn't let death affect him as much as Kal or Lift. He is a learned man, who gives his knowledge and skills to everyone who needs them, which so far fits the Truthwatchers attributes. But if we only get one Radiant per Order, I'm afraid he won't be glowing anytime soon.
  5. I'm with woolhead who pointed out healing is based on the cognitive realm and not time, thus making re-growth unrelated to time. However, growth as a sub-progression surge might be time based. Lift made plats grow, which is arguably based on her desire for them to grow or something else. Even if progression influences time, I don't think that's what happened here. If Renarin had slowed time, it would have seemed to Kaladin that Relis stopped or slowed down or Kal would have at least thought something was off rather than described it as hesitation.
  6. Then it would have been that way for everyone, but only the Shin consider them holy. It's Brandon, there must be more than tectonic plates.
  7. Szeth and the Shin consider stones holy and they have the Honorblades, so there's something about it. Zseth even thinks Urithiru's stones are the only ones it's ok to walk on. I think there will be something similar to Ruin's influence, however I doubt it will be text-changing again. Edit: Could be the opposite in fact. Ruin couldn't influence metal, perhaps Odium can only influence through stone.
  8. Dalinar wouldn't have had time to put on his Plate at the feast his brother died, so his conclusion that he wouldn't have been able to save Gavilar is true. Dalinar would have ended up lashed and killed.
  9. I think it would be odd to have only one Radiant per Order. If certain spren kin want to prevent Desolation by creating KR, wouldn't it make more sense to bond with more people? Ten Radiants and no Heralds looks like a loss considering past Desolations. I know things are happening different now, but the spren didn't expect it since they only spoke to Jasnah of how it has been. It's helpful that Kal will likely have a thousand squires, but wouldn't those spren like Wyndle's kin do better if they create more surgebinders to fight? Sending just one sounds like a waste to me. Either gather enough force to win or don't fight at all.
  10. Well, wouldn't the Stormfather count as one of the ten? He started bonding with Dalinar a while ago, because he had to (the visions). Plus he only forbade Syl, he doesn't control any other Nahel-bonding spren so far. Cryptics, highspren, Wyndle-like-Ring-whatever etc have their own politics and don't answer to the Stormfather. On a side note, where is it said ten spren came to bond with people?
  11. You are right their orders are different, however there is no evidence KR make oaths on both attributes. That's just an assumption that may or may not be correct.
  12. He might not have an ideal for leadership. Creation is Shallan's primary attribute, yet she'll make no oath about it, only truths, which is based on her secondary attribute. Nonetheless, she'll keep creating. The same way Kaladin could keep leading his men without any oaths on the subject.
  13. I swear if this really ends up Kaladin's fourth ideal, I will throw the book out of the window. I'll first wrap it carefully, so it's not harmed in the fall, check to ensure there's nobody on the street below and throw it. Then I'll go down to recover it, but I would've made my point. I get it, Kal will protect basically everyone so long as it's right, enough of that. Seriously. Not to mention this oath doesn't seem like the right thing to do. If someone doesn't want your help/protection/whatever, don't force yourself on them, storm it. I really dislike characters who think they know better what others really need. We've been through the bad consequences of unwanted help in Elantris. However, it might be a lesson Kal need to learn. He's so overprotective when it comes to those he considers his responsibility. Thus I think his future character arc will be in the direction of letting go of some responsibilities, so ideal will be more of a opposite of what you suggest.
  14. The burdens of nine become Elhokar's. Why must he carry the madness of them all? Oh, Almighty, release him.
  15. Shallan knocked a goblet of spheres on the floor when she woke up in her cabin, so it's likely some of them rolled out of the door close enough for Jasnah to inhale. Shallan and Kaladin both healed themselves from their drop in the chasms with some spheres, so Jasnah likely did the same. I think there was WoB her last thought was of escaping, so she might have unconsciously elsecalled herself. Elsecalling is a fast means of travel, probably what the legends of Radiants being able to travel hundreds of miles in a heartbeat originated from. (If you recall Teft telling this to Kal in WoK) He's Vasher. Some ardent are definitely cosmic aware like the one sketching the bridgemen's tattoos that Rock shooed away. He's likely Nazh. Same thing he does everywhere else - destroying evil! Or at least aiming to. Vasher probably lost or gave him away considering how he said he wished he had made the choice that would've let him sleep at night. I really don't know if Hoid is friends with anyone. He claimed to be Dalinar's friend, yet said he would let Roshar burn if it meant he would get whet he wanted. Considering how Heralds primary purpose was to not let Roshar be destroyed, my spheres are on Hoid not being friends with them. They are likely still themselves. I don't think Brandon would have wrote them fleeing away only to have them turned into stormform at the end of WoR. Basically no PoV character died in WoR, so she's likely alive. She's far too interesting, getting her own book and it would be nice to have a Voidbringer PoV (well, she might not be a voidbringer, but you get my point). She was in a form meant to survive a storm and with a Shardplate. Plus she was pushed by Adolin into the chasms, so drawning would have been her main concern rather then being thrown in the air like those enormous rock Kal saw. He doesn't remember writing it, only vague recollections. It could indicate it wasn't him who wrote it or he had help or nothing. There are some speculations if Odium has something to do with it, but nothing certain. The Ghostbloods likely know about the Diagram and only Brandon knows how many even more secret societies. They either hid from Kal/Syl or Elhokar strayed away from the path of becoming a Radiant. There were speculations those were voidspren, but it's an unlikely theory at the moment. Some people think Elhokar saw Cryptics, others lean towards Willshaper's spren, because it would match his personality. If they were Cryptyc, I highly doubt they were there because they wanted to bond with him, probably just spying on the king. Elhokar has shown no creativity so far. Shallan was creative before she became delusional. But they might not have been Cryptics despite the symbol heads. He saw them in mirrors which hasn't happened to Shallan, he spoke of shadows which Jasnah experienced in the prologue, so we'll see.
  16. Isn't 'suckling child' a child that still feeds from his/her mother's breasts? This would rule out both suggestions.
  17. Wouldn't it then have been 'her throat', not 'his' then? I think what you mention happened before 1173 and death rattles are of the future as far as we know. It could have been for Lift, we don't know enough about her past, but she grew up in a tough surrounding and someone was after her because spoilers. What you said is reasonable, however it would change the purpose of the death rattles. Still connected to the Desolation, but not necessarily of the future. Unless there are several pretty clear references to past events, I'll keep thinking of them as future-telling.
  18. Kal is lighteyes now, so he'll have to give lighteyes more credit. He already respects both Dalinar and Shallan, even likes Adolin and Renarin. Perhaps as a Kholin and a Radiant, Jasnah will gain some additional points in advance. He already thought good of her when Shallan told him how she reacted to Shallan stealing her fabrial, so he knows Jasnah isn't an example of what he hates in lighteyes. There are many potential conflicts between Jasnah and Kaladin, which is what would make them such an interesting couple. There are also enough similarities to make them work. I don't see it as more unlikely than Kal/Shallan pairing. Jasnah will appreciate his clever tongue the same way she did with Shallan. He will find out that he and Shallan weren't the only people in the world who has suffered much, so he'll see the beauty in Jasnah as well. Remember that prior WoR Shallan and Kal seemed unlikely to get along and now she's the leading match for him. So, the same thing might happen between Jasnah and Kal. It's more of a fan-shipping rather than theory shipping at this point, but it's not impossible.
  19. I hope there will be another Rysn interlude, I really want to know how her story continues!
  20. I didn't make the connection between observing and being learned. I thought the 'learned' attribute was supposed to represent someone with fast knowledge like Jasnah or Navani, which is the most straight forward way to define the meaning. However, English isn't my native language and connections such as yours and Moogle's sometimes are lost to me. It makes better sense now, though I haven't thought if Renarin as being insightful. What is more, until this theory I thought both attributes should be present, thus my annoyance how exactly is Shallan an example of honsty and my confusing on Renarin, because he has been obedient far more than giving imo. But if the secondary attribute follows after, then it all fits.
  21. I can argue Renarin is brave on many occasions (facing a chasmfiend, asking to be part of Bridge Four, etc) and we don't know why he wants to be a soldier, so don't assume he thinks he's useless otherwise. Thanks, Moogle, this makes a lot of sense. Isn't growth just one aspect of progression, like re-growth is a variation of growth? I wonder if progression could influence tides for example. But I might be misunderstanding the word. I'm certainly curious what Renarin could do with his surges.
  22. According to Lightflame Brandon was drunk on stormlight and gave a 103% accurate list of things that will happen in Stones Unhallowed
  23. This fits well Kaladin/Syl dynamics. She told him she first noticed him when he started protecting the young boys on the battlefield. Lift shows a lot of compassion - breaking in with the others because they might need her help, think of breaking out a boy she barely knew. Shallan drew a lot before her mother died and Dalinar has been pious so far. However, I don't understand why Renarin is a Truthwatcher. He's interested in fabrials and knows a lot about wine according to Adolin, but does it really count as being learned? He shows bravery more often and more noticeably. Why Brandon didn't make him a Dustbringer still baffles me. Renarin has expressed desire to fight and be a warrior many times, which sits better with the Dustbringers. Anyway, have an up-vote!
  24. Nice catch with the anagram! But as was pointed out, Chana is a female. It's possible that either Palona or Sebarial are surgebinders and kept themselves warm via surge. That would explain why Sebarial went to fight with Dalinar and also why he didn't want to throw his men's lives away on the Plains to gain gemhearts, when he could gain wealth in other ways thus following the First Ideal of journey before destination and life before death.
  25. It does, thank you and Swimmingly! Though you contradict each other, because you basically say having 'way' in the sentence makes it more specific, which is opposite of Swimmingly saying the first sentence is more vague. So, I'm actually more confused now...
