Brandon's Next Book
Awesomeness Summoned replied to DragonReborn's topic in General Brandon Discussion
His website shows him as currently writing Legion and is 70% through with the first draft so will likely be released between firefight and Rithmatist #2. Short fiction like Legion usually is considered a side project for him and don't get mentioned when he talks about his next book projects. -

What is wrong with Renarin?(full book)
Awesomeness Summoned replied to Crysanja's topic in Stormlight Archive
Whether or not the honorblades are exclusively of honor or if Cultivation played a part in that system isn't fully known yet. Regardless, the knight's radiant surgebinding is not the same process as the heralds abilities and there is nothing to indicate that the surges come exclusively from Honor's power. In fact, there is ample evidence to indicate that many of the surges come from Cultivation's power rather than Honor's. Progression specifically sounds like it is connected more specifically to Cultivation's intent. Wyndle refers to "mother" in the way Syl refers to the stormfather as "father" which sounds to me like he is connected to a female power, not Honor. The excerpts from the in world Words of Radiance sounds like not all the orders followed ideals that windrunners would consider "honorable". Many of the things Shallan did during the book to achieve her goals were not particularly honorable. But yes, you're right, a little off topic so I'll end it with that. -
The next signing will be in Houston in just three days. I'm just curious if there are any fellow 17s members who plan on attending. This will be my first Brandon signing event and I'd love to be able to meet some fellow sharders in person. I'll be passing out the comment cards for the tour scrapbook. Anyone who wants to help me distribute and collect them would be welcome.

What is Kaladin? (Full spoilers)
Awesomeness Summoned replied to Necromancer's topic in Stormlight Archive
You should probably move this to the words of radiance thread since its huge WoR spoiler. I know you say spoilers in the title but it would be safer in there. Kaladin did have a few advantages of his own. 1. He is a 3rd level radiant while Szeth is getting his abilities from an honorblade. As such, Kaladin gets more efficient use of his stormlight. 2. Having your blade be able to morph from a sword, to a spear, to a shield at a thought is a pretty big advantage. 3. Szeth was a little out of his mind (even more than usual) with his realization that he wasn't really truthless so probably wasn't at his peak performance level. 4. Technically, Kaladin didn't really beat Szeth. He gave up. Really, the only skill advantage Szeth has that mattered in that fight was the flying ability which, once you had a little practice with changing directions, would come down more to reactions and tactical instincts than it would experience. -
the Bondsmiths 3
Awesomeness Summoned replied to Green Hoodie Mistborn's topic in Stormlight Archive
I know the stormfather speaks to Dalinar about not wanting to be killed by a betrayal but it seems strange to me that he could be. He is inherently different than the other spren because, as he also mentions to dalinar, his existence and sense of self partly comes from all the people across the world who still pray to the almighty. Their cognitive belief makes him exist as more than just a force of nature. The other spren don't become sentient until the bond but the stormfather was already sentient before he bonded with Dalinar so breaking it shouldn't kill him in the same way Syl can be killed.- 61 replies

Character Designs -- Stormlight Archive
Awesomeness Summoned replied to shallan88's topic in Creator's Corner
I think people usually draw him that way because of a natural inclination to draw attractive people. There are quite a few instances in WoR where people, Shallan in particular, think Dalinar has an unattractive but intimidating face so I think she got that pretty spot on.- 26 replies

It has been suggested that Jasnah's ability to soulcast at a distance, like when she kills the three robbers, has to do with the combination of transformation and transportation that is unique to her order. People who use soulcasters usually have to touch the thing they are changing. We'll have to wait until Shallan has a bit more experience, though, before we can determine if it's related to transportation or something any radiant soulcaster can do.

What is wrong with Renarin?(full book)
Awesomeness Summoned replied to Crysanja's topic in Stormlight Archive
Yeah, I'm gonna have to go with Aleksiel on this one. You really need to provide a quote when you say something is that cut and dry because I don't remember it being said anywhere in the books that none of the surges allow future sight. The only talk about seeing the future is the dogma of the Voran church which we know is corrupted in this area. -
Seems I'll need to come up with a way at the Houston signing to indicate right side up for the cards. Didn't occur to me that some people might not know the correct orientation for the glyphs.

I'm expecting the second half's focus change being similar to what we see of Dalinar in WoR compared to tWoK. He still plays a prominent role in the story but only had a few direct pov's. In the second half, our beloved characters will still be important to the story but they won't have many dedicated viewpoints

**Spoiler** The Sword towards end of WoR **Spoiler**
Awesomeness Summoned replied to Tybou_14's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Reread the Zahel pov chapter and you might find he has a lot in common with a certain prominent individual from Nalthis who would likely have brought nightblood with him to Roshar. Edit: there has also been quite a bit if discussion of this topic on a few different WoR threads if you search around. -
Welcome to the forum! I'll agree with you that it's one of the freindliest communities I've been a part of. Hope you enjoy your time with us. Have you read much of Brandon's other work or have you mostly just been exposed to the stormlight archives?

Honorblades (WoR Spoilers)
Awesomeness Summoned replied to Chromium Compounder's topic in Cosmere Discussion
The WoR thread is far too active right now for me to have any hope of locating all the relevant threads, but this has been discussed a bit. It's commonly assumed someone switched the blade (Hoid maybe?) at some point. Someone asked Peter, shouldn't the blade Dalinar got from Taln be an honorblade? His response was something like, "you would think wouldn't you"? -

Well, if you copy and paste from an ebook it automatically adds that citation information so he might have just not gone through the extra five seconds to delete the citations -

Taln's Honorblade (full book spoilers)
Awesomeness Summoned replied to Jess's topic in Stormlight Archive
I think you are misunderstanding the definition of monstrosity. It just means the blade is really big, which it is, even more so than regular shardblades. Edit: Welcome to the forum by the way. -
What is wrong with Renarin?(full book)
Awesomeness Summoned replied to Crysanja's topic in Stormlight Archive
The most recent chart with the updated likeliest orders and their surges is HERE Cohesion fits better with shaping people's will and illumination fits better with truths. Plus, most of the bottom half of the chart seems to relate to Cultivation and the top half to Honor. Cultivation is better at seeing the future than Honor -
@Diagram... if you go back and read through the parts where shallan and Adolin are coming up with the idea of using the king's boon to call out Sadeas, Kal thinks several times about how it could be his chance as well (implying calling out Amaram). So he had prepared for the possibility. It wasn't a completely in the moment decision. Some people have mentioned that it seemed like the third ideal was too similar to the second by I disagree. Saying you are going to protect the defenseless and saying you will protect people you hate as long as its the right thing to do is a pretty important distinction. The windrunners are protectors, not judge and jury, so it's important that they explicitly acknowledge everyone is worthy of their protection, not just people they like. While i didn't enjoy watching Kal descend back into full on emo Kal, learning to let go of his vengeance and hate that had been buidling since WoK was important to his character development so it didn't bother me even though it was somewhat similar to his arc in WoK The Kaladin/shallan scenes were some of the best in the book. As good as the verbal sparing was, what I liked most was the musings by Kal about how she can still be happy and enjoy life despite the hardships she endured. He made excuses the whole book about how he had good reasons to be ad dour as he was and Shallan just being herself rips those argument to pieces.

Theory Status Index as of WoR [Spoilers]
Awesomeness Summoned replied to aheerema's topic in Stormlight Archive
Shardblades are Spren. http://www.17thshard.com/forum/topic/5629-crazy-theory-about-spren-and-shardblades/?p=89443 Summary: Bonded Spren can form into shardblades Theory Status: Confirmed -
Judging by the fact that Syl doesn't say anything about disliking plate and surgebinders have been shown to wear plate without any signs of screaming in their head, I don't believe plate is formed from a spren like the blade is. They had pretty advanced fabrials during the KR time so I'd guess that the plate is either a fabrial or, as @krenn suggests, one of the orders that uses the Progession surge is actually able to "grow" shardplate. The description of how the plate repairs itself after being damage leads me to believe the later is likely.

There are multiple instances of kaladin holding his breath for 15-20 minutes at a time or more while holding stormlight. That wouldn't be possible unless stormlight could replace the need for oxygen.

There is also the fact that he outright states he is a truthwatcher at the very end when the new KR declare themselves to each other. -

I agree with Marianmi, it is far more likely that Zaher (Vasher) brought the sword to Roshar and Nalan took it from him at some point. @Pattern:
