  1. I would say the punishment is symbolic. You are made to carry an honorblade, the very thing the heralds should be doing but did not because they are the epitome of truthless. It is the ultimate shame, being compared to the heralds, betrayers of mankind. That sounds like the way Shin would think.
  2. I prefer the prose version to the graphic novel myself. I think it's fun that Brandon is experimenting with new media forms, but I like the depth of character that you get from his prose, even when unpolished.
  3. Do we know where the honor blades were left by the heralds? I was under the impression that they were on a different world, so how did the Shin recover the blades? Are they world-hoppers? Is there a perpendicularity in west that only they have access to? Is it made of stone? =)
  4. But they do go somewhere. They disappear when dismissed.
  5. That is an interesting theory. Thought 1 has been discussed somewhat extensively, but this is the first time I have seen Thought 2. I was under the impression that the measurement freezing was something that affected flame-spren and their usual semi-random size. I hadn't imagined that it would work for spren in general. It's possible that the 'measurement' refers to measuring different things about the spren, such as their psyche. That would probably require the KR bonded to the spren to be the one who 'measured' it. It's a very interesting thought. Your theory doesn't really address the motivation though. Why would the KR want to bind the spren in that form? So they could give up the fight and leave the weapons for other men to take up? And welcome to the forums. I should offer you a cookie before someone else does...
  6. It looks to me like there are two storms colliding since there are two colors - red and blue. Which would explain why she has enough stormlight to make her air stairs. =)
  7. Can shard-blades cut through Prof's shield? Can Prof heal from a shard-wound? These determine everything.
  8. Yeah. He probably wants to get it done so he can write 4 more books before it comes out.
  9. Unless its just a POV from Vasher where he regretfully remembers her being eaten by a fearspren.
  10. Ok. What's a budgie? I always wondered since I read it in HP.
  11. Well that was pretty amazing! My favorite part is where Adolin slices through one leg and the it falls over dead. =)
  12. I don't think shard-stuff cuts just because of what it is made of. You are assuming the fork is sharp enough to pierce skin, which is not the case with forks I use. In the way I think a shard-hammer would use blunt force instead of piercing, I don't think a fork would pierce without excess force in stabbing. Which makes me think that shardblades are sharp down to the nanoscale to make it so easy to pass through stuff.
  13. The way he talks about breeding cremlings for specific body parts makes me believe that he can possess any cremling he desires, although there would be a limit to the number, and possibly distance.
  14. I assumed he was the fourth son which is why he can fight, but an older brother died making him an artisan.
  15. I was also wondering what the reproductive cycle of the parshendi is. However, we should remember that their reproduction is compatible with humans as there are races with mixed human/parshendi blood.
  16. Today I was walking through the office and I saw a co-workers lunch. I thought, "man, I really want some flangria right now." It took me a second to realize that I can't just go and get some.
  17. Agreed. I thought it was a roundabout way to say racism, but as if he's taking the blame himself for being Aimian rather than blaming others for the way they treat him. It's a strange viewpoint morally, but it keeps him optimistic and lighthearted.
  18. No, it wouldn't be from the artifabrian community. One of Navani's engineers brought it up as an interesting new discovery.
  19. Ummm... Sadeas did do unlawful things. For example, he went on plateau runs that he was forbidden to go on by the rotation set up by the high prince of war. I'm really not sure how darkness justifies killing the people he does, but any technicality in the law that allows it to be a punishment for the crime seems to be the way he is going. I'm convinced he could find justification for killing someone based on almost any medium to large infraction of the law.
  20. I've imagined the bond as primarily giving Dalinar surges so he can be one of the KR. Also, it gives him someone to shout at when he needs answers. I love how unwilling he is to help until someone points out that it's his job.
  21. And Adolin jumped off the flat of his blade once.
  22. So I was thinking about carving into rock with a shardblade and how you could make precise cuts. I was thinking of making some sort of circulating saw where the blade is perpendicular to the plane of rotation so you could carve perfect circles. If you mounted the blade on a lathe you could do that pretty well, and that gets over the problem of having multiple parts for your shard-tool. So what other tools can we create which would work better with having a single piece made from a spren? Ooh! We could also get over the problem of multiple parts by having multiple spren collaborate on creating something. Shard-bow + shard-arrow = Awesomeness. But would they collaborate...
  23. Shard plate is really just shale bark cultivated by spren.
  24. I'm going to suggest that Shallan does not control light and sound. I start with that premise just because of how OP it would make her. Rather she controls how things are perceived. This means she can't create a death ray but she can still create illusions. This also plays into her access to the cognitive realm.
