  1. Gavilar the duck... Wow... My whole perception of SA just flipped upside down like a newborn giraffe on a space shuttle. Mind. Blown.
  2. My point is that if you pronounce his name EE-lend then the nickname El doesn't fit. But since El is used so frequently (yes, I'm looking at you Ham) then the pronunciation has to be EL-end. As in El(ephant)-End.
  3. How do you go from EE-lend to the nickname El? Wouldn't the nickname be Eel? For that reason (and to avoid change) I'm going with EL-end as the pronunciation.
  4. Die non-black hair! Die!
  5. They can pass through walls or the door would have kept one particular one enclosed without the need for a silver lining.
  6. I wonder if additional cities could be built in different locations such that they mirror the landscape and thus amplify the Dor. If so, the symbols of writing would all have to be different to be based on the surrounding landscape. If you put someone in the middle, could they use both sets of symbols? Could they be combined (not that this would help in any way).
  7. The question is, what is Brandon's hidden continent?
  8. Honorblades aren't made from spren which is why there isn't really a problem with having multiple honorblades (you don't have to fulfill multiple types of oaths. And the rate of stormlight consumption doesn't increase just by wielding more blades. It's just increased by using two or more types of surgebinding at the same time. Any radiant has the same problem if they use more than one surge simultaneously. Having multiple honorblades just gives you more weapons in your arsenal.
  9. If an order didn't have shard blades they couldn't open the oath gate.
  10. Personally I will shocked if Eshonai is dead. She fell in full shard plate and we've already seen someone dive headfirst into the ground and sustain no injury. With the increased height I wouldn't be surprised if she was injured or disoriented, but dead seems unlikely to me.
  11. Beating an inquisitor's eye-spike in...
  12. Way to resurrect a dead thread. But good point.
  13. Wait. You can't? =) A while back some people figured out how to translate the various scripts we come across. In my opinion their work is nothing less than brilliant.
  14. I don't really see Syl becoming anything for Kaladin except to tease him or aid him in keeping his oaths.
  15. I've always thought it likely that there is a planned end to the oathpact and desolations. That there are conditions, which if fulfilled, will end the suffering of the heralds. In other words, the heralds went into this as a temporary shield for mankind and they are hoping someone will take up the other half of the battle and somehow defeat Odium while the heralds keep him pinned. Suffering for mankind would be an acceptable sacrifice if it wasn't for eternity. Only after repeated cycles where mankind never completed what was required of them did most of the heralds give up. I expect there are holes in that theory, so feel free to pick it apart.
  16. Cett could be fun, but be prepared with a wheelchair.
  17. I'm expecting that when Shallan gets her plate she will taunt Adolin because she can just make her bottom plate disappear. Easier to go #2.
  18. The idea of a central hell doesn't really fit with my understanding of the cosmere. Each separate system seems pretty independent with little interaction between the shards of separate systems (with one notable exception). We haven't seen any god's judging and elevating/damning anyone, and Harmony talks about souls still being around and available for discussion. I think Sol Invictus has a pretty good idea though. Sanderson's afterlife seems more based on natural consequences and the state of being you are in rather than a judgement and assignment.
  19. That would be a bit of a giveaway though. Hoid, usually in black, suddenly in gray... I think it more likely he would have colorful scarves sewn to the inside of his black outfit.
  20. Pewter isn't forging her muscles so her muscle size shouldn't be affected by how she views them cognitively.
  21. Come on Oudeis. Give us a try... I'm really looking forward to the stick figure with lines all over. =)
  22. Ah... I see Oudeis came to the same conclusion as me, albeit with more references and theory. =)
  23. To transcribe gwslow's WoB... "lately I've put the word Catacendre into the Alloy of Law era to mean the end of the ash..."
  24. I got ninja'd by another thread, so I should continue my thoughts over there. However, I believe you are incorrect about the flowing blood unless you assume that Vin's ear is always bleeding when she removes her earring.
