You Know You're a Sanderfan When...
Elbereth replied to Shardbearer's topic in General Brandon Discussion
You know you're a Sanderfan when you start transcribing a signing instead of doing your homework. ...when you think about your Epic weakness, and you decide it would be papercuts (I'm not joking). -
Shadows of Self Tour London Day 1 (17-Oct-15)
Elbereth replied to Havoc's topic in Events and Signings
I guess I'll start transcribing. If anyone wants to help, I won't transcribe past the 1-hour mark until I post again, so if anyone wants to work past that point, feel free. Here's the link to the Google doc! -
Hi! Welcome to the 17th Shard. The more Cosmere-aware fans are often called Sharders. More generally, we are known as Sanderfans. What's the Cosmere, you ask? Many of Brandon Sanderson's books are set in one universe and have magic systems that generally work on the same principles. You can check it out here, but I suggest you read a few more of his books before doing so. Start with Mistborn. I, too, am a Doctor Who fan, and I want to watch Supernatural and Merlin but I haven't had time yet. This Christmas, hopefully. Welcome! I hope you have fun here! EDIT: I just realized that the title of this topic literally says the word Cosmere. You don't need me to blather on about it. Sorry.

Hoid. He'd just pull out Human's spikes before Human knew he was a threat.

I will do that. EDIT: I'll also listen to the Q&A, since nobody else seems to have done so.- 131 replies

Here you go! Has anyone gone through the Q&A yet, for anything vaguely interesting? Argent, was there anything worth looking for in there?- 131 replies

It is in chronological order. I did make a section for stuff that I thought was interesting, but didn't actually tell us any information. I can put that all in one section at the bottom, instead of divided up. That would probably be better. I could also incorporate it into the main part, but I don't think that would be as good.- 131 replies

I am finished with Personalization 2! Sorry it took so long. I kept getting ambushed to do things like eat and watch Doctor Who. I'll be gone all tomorrow, so if someone else wants to listen through the Q&A, that's fine. I don't think there were any questionable bits in the last part, which is nice. Yay! I'm done! It's so nice to accomplish things.- 131 replies

The transcript has about half an hour left on it. I'll finish it within the next hour or two. EDIT: Then I'll go through the Q&A, just in case, but it should be pretty much done at that point.- 131 replies

That sucks. You can ask your local library to get it. Or you could just get the updated version, which also has a better Ars Arcanum. -

The Tenth Anniversary edition contained a little Cosmere-relevant scene at the end. You shouldn't need to buy it, though. It's only a couple of pages. You could read it in the bookstore. -
We have multiple WoBs that pretty much any Investiture intereferes will all other forms of Investiture. Not that your suggestion is impossible. It'd jsut be very difficult. The question is whether that difficulty would also limit the amount of Breath (or whatever) you can put in, or if the already placed Investiture is just an obstacle to get past, and once you have, you can put however much you want in it. I don't know that Breath is spiritual, or that that would make a difference. Do we have WoBs on that?

In the same vein as my last post:

My basic reply: CONFLCT! There needs to be a problem, or preferably several problems on different levels, depending on the length othe the story you want to write. After that, it's just a matter of figuring out what your characters will do to fix these problems and how they will eventually be resolved.

This is the problem with transcripts. Except it's not 1 in 3 people, it's 9 in 10. Hmph. People should learn to be more curious.
-
I have absolutely no experience in editing audio files. However, you could pm it to several people who have already heard the reading (me, Argent, whoever else wants to), and we could just transcribe it, not including the reading.

I think that's what Blaze is saying. Also, I would guess that "full of Investiture" is not the same thing as "charged with Investiture". I don't know the difference, though.

They are at vertical opposites. I would expect them to be at direct, diagonal opposites, like where Lightweavers are to Windrunners.- 131 replies

Atium in the food: There's another reference to a baker powdering cupcakes or something with atium in AoL, I think, though I can't find it right now.About the Remarked Duplicity: That's what I thought it was, too. But then something made me change my mind. Partly, it was because why would that make other kandra timid? (That's the context of the quote). I feel like there was another quote, though, later in the book. The room with two baskets: I got that a little wrong, sorry. When Wax is walking through the Homeland: About Marsh's Immortality: I know that atium compounding is really powerful. My problem is that 1) it's cumulative, and 2) Unlike the Lord Ruler, Marsh only had a very limited amount of atium, which is basically the only atium left in the world until it's rediscovered. Atium burns fast. So Marsh would have to be very, very careful about how he went through his stock, and I'm not sure it could have lasted him this long. Thank you! I didn't mean to put that question in. I should have just looked it up. Thanks! Does anyone have a WoB for this? Very good point. But if 16% of the men in Elend's army Snapped and all of them became Mistings, what happened to the atium-alloy and lerasium-alloy Mistings? Of course, they didn't have chromium or nicrosil Mistings either, and we never learned what percentage of the Snapped became recognizable Mistings. Can he? Then why didn't Ruin just make atium, instead of looking for it? I know that, but what was the catalyst that made him leave?

[Spoilers] Elantris Anniversary Reactions
Elbereth replied to Chaos's topic in Elantris and Emperor's Soul
Brandon mentioned that there was going to be an extra little scene somewhere we wouldn't expect it in his blog. I assumed it would be in the text of the book, so when I finished my reread, I thought, "Was there an extra scene in there? I don't remember one, but I haven't read the book in a while. Maybe I missed it." Then I read the Ars Arcanum and turned the page. -

And given that, I would expect Edgedancers and Windrunners to be directly opposite from each other in the Radiant chart, but they're not.- 131 replies
