  1. I always got the feeling that Rayse was supposed to be there, and that the others gave him Odium on purpose.
  2. Yes, that implies that Odium is lying to himself and everyone else when he claims he is Passion.
  3. This should work. Hit Ctrl-F and search for Azure and/or Zahel, and that should get you to the chapter summary. You can then find that chapter in your book https://coppermind.net/wiki/Oathbringer/Summary https://coppermind.net/wiki/Words_of_Radiance/Summary
  4. https://coppermind.net/wiki/Yolen https://wob.coppermind.net/adv_search/?query=Yolen https://wob.coppermind.net/adv_search/?query=Shattering
  5. Pretty much everything we know up to Oathbringer can be found on the Coppermind, and Arcanum. Have you looked around there? We don't really know much, but there are (were?) excerpts of Dragonsteel on Brandon's website from Dragonsteel and Liar of Partinell that you can read. We won't know much more until Dragonsteel is released.
  6. Yeah I agree with Cal. A Vessel in full control of its Shard can do anything that isn't against the nature of the Shard.
  7. Odium is not Passion, darn it. Fite me.
  8. Right, but around about the same time, he said that the grand cosmere timeline spans about 10,000 years, with SA in the middle of that. And SA is already over 10k years, so clearly, things have changed quite a bit (Shattering to Aharietiam ~6k years, Aharietiam to WoK 4.5k years). With Era 2 during SA, Era 3 maybe 100 years later, how many years would it be to Era 4? I would guess less than another 10k, and probably quite a bit less than the confirmed 4.5k since Aharietiam. In the "Notes" section of the spreadsheet, he explains why he picked that date: And in the WoB that's based on, Brandon emphasizes that Elantris is far earlier. So it's not a horrible guess
  9. The metals are like the Aons. Not invested themselves, but capable, when used the right way by the right type of person, of becoming a gateway through which investiture flows. Stormlight is pretty much the investiture itself, while metals act more like a key to allow investiture to flow. Some WoBs for you.
  10. If I remember correctly, the drawback of savantism for tin is that Spook was practically numb and blind when he wasn't burning it? And pewter seemed like it was addictive, the extra boost of endurance and strength. So with the drawback, it might be that you'd be unusually weak and get tired faster. We haven't really seen enough of savantism's drawbacks to really know how they would interact and whether they would cancel each other out, but I don't think that most of them would. I think most of them would add up to extra misery. Resonances are because of powers interacting. Too many powers and there're too many interactions to form a Resonance, like if you drop two pebbles into a bowl of water, you can see them adding up to higher waves, but if you drop in 5, you're just going to get a jumble. Savantism actually is stretching your spiritweb so far that it warps your physical self. So I'm positive you can be a savant of multiple types of metals (or powers) and have all of the drawbacks thereof. I'll bet TLR was a savant of his atium-youth-metal, though. Yeah the tin drawback is becoming much less sensitive when not burning/flaring.
  11. This is the best WoB about them I think it implies that they are pre-Reod Elantrians.
  12. There are massive cosmere spoilers in this spreadsheet, so if you haven't read most of the cosmere books, beware! But it's a great timeline. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1JJtJhHwpKdow01n2-bsT3scVvqJd6lZh4uvpNwcslv8/edit#gid=0
  13. I was referring to the Vessels, yes.
  14. That'd be pretty hilarious! But no, probably not For one, I think it'd be way too Terry Pratchetty, there'd definitely be some rough feelings about that. For another, there are actual islands that aren't greatshells, like Thaylenah, and Aimia, and and a bunch of smaller ones. And yeah, as you mentioned, ships would have a pretty hard time sailing around if the landmass were always moving. You can also watch how the continent was formed if you google "julia set," as that's what Brandon based the shape of the continent on. It's a fun idea though
  15. I dreamed that I was auditioning for the part of Jasnah in the SA tv show/movie. And it was being directed by Robert Downey Jr. Or maybe he was playing Szeth. Not sure. And the first time, I did the audition as everyone told me to and didn't get it. Then RDJ kicked out the person they chose and they re-did the auditions. And the second time, I did the audition the way I wanted to and I got the part! And then really screwed up on the first day of script-practice and then I woke up.
  16. It's the one that sounds like it's from Sazed It uses his method of speaking and expresses surprise. Also, rather than multiple posting in a row, what you can do is click the Edit button at the bottom of your post and add any additional thoughts that you have.
  17. One of the letters in Oathbringer is from Harmony.
  18. The meta-reason, I suspect, is that many books have dealt with elemental based magic systems and Brandon wants to do something else. Also, he bases a lot of magic on physics and quantum physics, where fire/water/earth/wind don't really matter. That being said, Division is going to be very fiery, since it's the surge of dividing molecular bonds. And whatever Cusicesh is seems pretty tied to water. As are highstorms.

    Realms

Yeah, time in the CR passes mostly the same as in the PR. People seem to have learned how to manipulate it somehow, though. Or are using a lot of cadmium. Because there are people who are using some sort of time-dialation techniques to be able to live "longer". We have no idea how yet. Since spren have substance in the CR, yeah they could probably be hurt and killed there.

    Realms

The realms are really complicated and we don't understand all of them, or even a small part. Everything starts from the Spiritual Realm. Think of it like the sun. It's the source of (most) magic, and where your spiritweb or SDNA is. It's location and time independent, so you can instantly move from any place to any other place, and you can see the future and the past. The next "layer" is the Cognitive Realm, known as Shadesmar colloquially. It's the realm of thought and living ideas, and is shaped by thought. My theory on why the land and sea are inverted is because when people look at things on land, they see all the different objects--rocks and pebbles and tables and boxes and houses and dried leaves, and all the things. So all of them manifest separately in the CR. When people look and think of the ocean or a river, they don't think of individual water molecules. They think, "Water," or "river." So since they think of it as a singular item, it's solid. Shadesmar is flat, and the space between planets isn't thought about, so is compressed. And that lets people walk between planets with relatively little difficulty. Last is the Physical Realm, the realm of every day, see-and-touch objects. Magic, or investiture, originates (mostly) in the Spiritual Realm, is filtered by Cognitive thought, and manifests in the Physical Realm. Does that help?
  21. I think it eventually returns to the Shard as normal, it just takes longer. Like having to filter water through sand and gravel before being able to use it again.
  22. In an extended battle, a top level Awakener, like the god king, would actually probably win against a KR. The KR will eventually run out of stormlight, but the Awakener's Breaths and Awakened objects will keep going indefinitely. So if the Awakener can manage like, Defend Me type Commands, until the KR runs out of stormlight, then attack, he should have a decent chance.
  23. They do seem to tie into their own magic systems, since lerasium and atium can be burned. And the Shardblades are godmetals of Honor and Cultivation. An Allomancer would have to be Connected to the Shard in the right way to be able to burn that metal, though. They wouldn't be able to do it natively. Hoid gave Azure aluminum, because it blocks investiture, so it shielded the room from being sensed by the Fused. Supplemental WoBs
  24. Even if he were an Elantrian, cutting off the head would kill him. And it was during the time when Elantris was still bugged, so he wouldn't have been able to be a functioning Elantrian.
