  1. "Framed for murder! Page 16!" had me rolling around.
  2. She's so supportive.
  3. Mmmmm that would explain a lot. But it also raises even more questions. I mean, I can see being able to tap an unlocked metalmind, but being able to fill it seems wrong for the rules that we know.
  4. Closer. I know you don't need to tap Feruchemical aluminum. But you need to be able to store Identity. From what I've been able to tell, the medallions don't give you the ability to store Identity (or heat or weight or investiture). They give you the ability to tap identity, or heat or weight or investiture. So how do you store Identity in order to be able to create an unlocked metalmind of any sort?
  5. No, I don't think that's what I'm trying to ask, lol. So, you are the only one that can use a metalmind you created, because it's tied to your identity. You can create an unlocked metalmind that anyone with the ability to tap that metalmind can use if you can reduce your identity to 0. Only Feruchemical aluminum ferrings or fFullborns can reduce their identity to 0, by storing their identity in Aluminum. So how does an Feruchemical nicrosil ferring, who can't reduce his identity, create an unlocked metalmind? Even assuming he could tap an unlocked Aluminum metal mind (a la TLR/Sovereign), that would tap the metalmind and increase his Identity, not reduce it.
  6. Mmmmm. Well, the pain was Kelsier's mind thinking he should be in pain, rather than actual harm. So technically, Hoid wasn't hurting Kelsier, Kelsier was hurting Kelsier Hoid is very mysterious, and his motivations are unclear, so he really could be up to anything. I tend to think he's generally trying for something "good" but that might not be actually "good."
  7. I wonder if Raoden is still around. Elantrians are immortal, right? Hmmmmmmm or these could be ones who went into the blue Shardpool above Elantris....... IRE means something in Elantrian, but they don't say what.
  8. From when she wrote Mistresses into her marriage contract, I loved her . I wish I could have seen Wax's face on reading that section.
  9. Uh, I must have not been thinking about what I typed because that is totally not clear lol. How can a non-Feruchemical aluminum ferring of any sort make an unlocked metalmind? They need to be able to store their Identity somewhere, but if they're not Feruchemical aluminum ferrings, how can they do that? A fullborn could make a metal mind that can be tapped, but how would they make a metalmind that can store Identity for someone who isn't an Feruchemical aluminum ferring? Does that make any more sense? I'm having a hard time explaining what I mean on this topic.
  10. I always thought Steris was awesome in her over analyzed, over prepared way. She's a really unique character in Brandon's worlds, and her subtle humor is very appealing.
  11. You mean Feruchemical aluminum/Feruchemical nicrosil? I guess I don't understand how a non-Feruchemical aluminum ferring can store Identity in anything enough to be able to make an unlocked metalmind of their own metal.
  12. Kind of off topic....where is the comprehensive chart mentioned in the title? lol Wouldn't it be neat if it was bits of the original Adonalsium?
  13. Ooooohhh I forgot about the topic ticker. Sorry!
  14. Yeah, Kelsier seems pretty likely. I wonder how Hoid got ahold of one of Kelsier's memories, though. They don't seem to like each other much.
  15. So, I'm confused as to how the medallions work. How can a Nicrosil ferring reduce their Identity enough to make an unlocked Feruchemical nicrosil medallion? And other ferrings reduce their identity enough to add to it? Is it a matter of using Feruchemical aluminum? But then how does an Feruchemical nicrosil ferring use Feruchemical aluminum? Also, how can a non-Feruchemical nicrosil person tap the Feruchemical nicrosil, even if it's unlocked? Don't you still need to be able to tap Nicrosil in order to use it? Unlocked just means that someone else can use a metal mind that you created, it doesn't give you the ability to actually use that metal if it's not in your sDNA, right? Is Nicrosil special in that it allows anyone to use its Investiture?
  16. Mmmmm it would depend on their location. We see the Milky Way as a band because we're pretty far toward the edge of it and looking at it somewhat sideways, so the bulk of it is "above" (Northern Hemisphere) us. Nearer to the center, or above/below the main galactic plane, it wouldn't be quite as thick a band, or could blot out other starts completely, or not even be visible, depending on orientation. This is a nifty tool to show what I'm talking about http://physics.stackexchange.com/questions/48546/how-far-are-constellations-recognizable
  17. If you can find it, tell me so that I can put this to rest
  18. If that's true, then it absolutely could be Taln's Scar, then. At least, as long as Scadrial can view stars along the same plane as Roshar. If it's rotated 90 degrees, then I'm not sure if it would work.
  19. Oh neat! http://physics.stackexchange.com/questions/48546/how-far-are-constellations-recognizable So it depends on how far away the constellation is, and how far apart the planets are.
  20. I don't know about the distances in the Cosmere, but the planets would have to be within a few light years of each other in order to perceive a constellation in any kind of similar manner. I just had this conversation Basically, unless the stars in Taln's Scar are *actually* in physical proximity to one another (not too likely?) they wouldn't look at all the same between the two planets. Here's a good visible example using Orion. From this angle, it forms Orion. But you shift a bit to the side, or around, and it looks nothing like Orion, the stars just make up a random jumble no where near each other. I would love a physical map of the Cosmere..... Of course, they could actually be in close proximity, but I'd think that would mess with their physical properties--most stars that are close together (relatively speaking) end up appearing as a single bright spot to the naked eye.
  21. I was thinking they'd be able to make/let him accomplish things for them in the Cognitive Realm, or, even the Spiritual one. We know Kelsier was pretty active in the CR after he died. And they seem pretty well able to manipulate the Cosmere to do what they want.
  22. So twice in Bands, Wax mentions something called the Red Rip, which is something seen in the sky in the evenings. It's differentiated from the moon, and from "starlight" at least. It could be a constellation, or it could be something related to the Cosmere. My first thought was some sort of rip in space, given its name. A Cosmere Rift?
  23. Ah, found the quote. Good call: So not identical, I suspect something is still going to be lost.
  24. Small possibility that he decided not to use them, because he thought he might need more health soon? Someone should ask Brandon or Peter at a signing.
  25. Well if he says so. It doesn't make sense with density, though
