I almost quit there too, but it most certainly gets better. Some of the stuff later on is just so great. Though I do have a high tolerance for gruesomeness.

Duralumin with different investiture
PorridgeBrick replied to Sirscott13's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I forgot that they take the Dor into themselves, too. They're probably subject to the same deal as surgebinders, then, with power tearing them up from the inside while healing the damage. -
This thread... the puns... the pain... oh god, my eyes, they hurt.

Duralumin with different investiture
PorridgeBrick replied to Sirscott13's topic in Cosmere Discussion
So, on a sadly cookie-less note, I've been thinking of how Selian magic is affected by Duralumin. Would Aons become uber-powerful, due to an increased gateway for the Dor to flow through? Or is that too external to have any effect. And, if it works, then would the material on which the Aon is drawn be affected by the sheer power running through it, like how the mists and stormlight hurt the users, gems shatter, and metals disintegrate? -

Well, I think this thread has been succesfully derailed. -

Then Forge the blade into a cookie, too, and inscribe Aons on it with the formula for creating cookies from air. -
Duralumin with different investiture

And stores a feruchemical attribute in it beforehand? -
There's also spanreeds, which seem rather far from any surges. The Pain Knife, too.

Duralumin with different investiture
PorridgeBrick replied to Sirscott13's topic in Cosmere Discussion
So then you have immense power, with the drawback of crippling pain. Still not very fun, though it could be useful.Ooh, it does?! Probably involving feruchemy or Yolen lightweaving, then, since I doubt anyone but Hoid is in a position to be fighting surgebinders with foreign magic. -
Are we sure the modern ones manipulate surges? After all, the surges come from the nahel spren, right? So if you can trap spren other than nahel spren in fabrials, wouldn't they have different abilities?

Duralumin with different investiture
PorridgeBrick replied to Sirscott13's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Do other magics have power caps like allomancy does? Surgebinding doesn't seem to: you can take in as much stormlight as you want, though too much will probably harm you. Since what duralumin does is open the gate wide and remove any power caps, I think Surgebinders would end up taking enormous amounts of stormlight into themselves, and get torn up just like allomancers taking in the mists. Probably not the best idea. -
Thanks! That would be a great help.

I'm not talking about the emerald with the flamespren.

The cut of the Pain gem looks completely different to me from the one in the knife. No matter what angle it is, I don't see how they could be the same.

Little traitor sounds very much like Syl, but the rest is mysterious. Nalan seems more like he punishes the surgebinder than the spren, but who knows. It could also be Odium, but I don't think a Shard would be particularly worried by a single spren, or at least not enough to take direct action.

She's probably inhaling from separate gemstones somewhere else on her. That stormlight would go into her, then out and into the Soulcaster, making it bright. That way, the stormlight is filtered by the gemstone for the correct Soulcasting essence to be produced. All the body focuses and their orders are on the Coppermind. The Elsecallers are the ones with the Oil Focus, and Edgedancers have their eyes as their Body Focus. And remember that Lift is an exception: metabolizing stormlight is a unique ability of hers granted by the Nightwatcher.

Shallan's Memories are the Illumination surge.
PorridgeBrick replied to Swimmingly's topic in Stormlight Archive
Perhaps you can lightweave anything you have a strong memory or mental image of, and the Memories are a magical tool to produce those strong mental images. That way, she could still lightweave something she has no Memory for if the memory is vivid enough to her. As for how the Memories work: could she be storing the light as it enters her eyes using Lightweaving? Of course, that doesn't explain the seeing Shadesmar bit. I wonder if her connection to Shadesmar via her Transformation Surge allows some of the "light" from Shadesmar to reach her as well. -
Except there isn't anything in the books to say that all Warning Fabrials are heliodors. And since they are in a Double Eye, isn't a better assumption that it's using all the gemstones?
