Long Game 2: The Devil's Den
PorridgeBrick replied to Metacognition's topic in Sanderson Elimination
This. And obviously, if someone claims to be a Seeker and gets you lynched, and we find out you're innocent, then the next day we MUST kill the one who got you lynched. If we don't stick to that, then this whole idea won't work.- 1232 replies

Long Game 2: The Devil's Den
PorridgeBrick replied to Metacognition's topic in Sanderson Elimination
I also vote for no one. Also, about the Mistborn thing. Whoever Seeks Peng tonight, if he does turn out to be the Mistborn, tell no one but Peng who you are. The next night, Seek someone else: if they're a Villager, PM them that you're the Seeker and that Peng is a Mistborn. That person will be the one who tells the thread everything. We cannot afford to have both the Mistborn and the Seeker known, since we may have only one Lurcher, and both are too valuable to lose.- 1232 replies

Long Game 2: The Devil's Den
PorridgeBrick replied to Metacognition's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Smack dab in the center of the room sat Ridge. Eschewing seats and the corners most of his skulking brethren favored, he sat cross-legged on top of the table, absentmindedly sipping at his ale as he listened to his surroundings. He liked being on top of things. The splendor of his appearance required a stage to display it. His fellow tablemates were long used to this, of course, carefully eating around him. He'd been frequenting this inn for as long as he could count- longer actually, he didn't quite get the concept of numbers- as one of the first members of Modeft's crew. When anyone would care to listen, he'd tell them of how he and Modeft had grown up together as kids, with Modeft masterminding heist after heist while Ridge obediently carried them out. The inn was active tonight, more active than it had been for months. Shouts echoed from one corner, voices raised in anger as some petty former lordlings quarreled over their last vestiges of honor. One's voice was high, haughty, despite the slurring of his words, the other strangely.... slippery, he decided, the voice a fish would have if it could speak. Nearby was a strong, clear voice, spoken with the innate arrogance of true nobility, her minder's whining tones close behind. Beside was the poetic but unintelligible slang of the eastern streets. This voice was dangerous, pure steel sheathed in a polite facade. Elsewhere, he heard the frantic scribbling of pen on paper- ah, that crazy Aether and his lists. Ridge wondered what this night held in store. Modeft was a genius, a prince of crime. Any thing could be stolen if he put his mind to it, as he loved to show. To say this heist would be greater than any other, to gather such a large and eccentric crew: this would be special.- 1232 replies

Spiritual Aspects and the Importance of A "Broken Soul"
PorridgeBrick replied to Aonar's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Feruchemy doesn't seem to require much foreign Investiture. As I see it, the only Investiture needed is just a Spiritual "bag" inside the metalmind to hold the stored trait in. While Snapping is likely required like any other magic system, the scale of the Snapping to receive such a small amount of power is just too minimal and common to be noticed.- 20 replies

Spiritual Aspects and the Importance of A "Broken Soul"
PorridgeBrick replied to Aonar's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Don't worry, you're not alone in thinking that way about AonDor. That seems to me to be the most logical possibility for how AonDor works too. What if in Nalthis, you're Snapped from birth? Since you can break off parts of your soul and give them to someone else, that suggests that their soul is already full of cracks/highly malleable. Also, @OP: I don't think Hemalurgy is at all an exception to Snapping. In fact, it should rather be the prime example of how it works. The spike itself is driving a wedge into the Spiritweb and leaving a hole for the foreign Spiritweb fragment to enter. It's manual Snapping, ala the mists and the Shaod if Darnam is correct. And because the foreign Spiritweb fragment isn't enough to fill that hole, possibly from hemalurgic decay, the Spiked becomes more vulnerable to foreign Investiture forcing its way in like Emotional Allomancy.- 20 replies

A sharp, hard object poking into the walls of your stomach, most likely. You're right, though, that there is so much we don't know about how systems interact. I personally am curious about what happens if you burn something that's been Forged, particularly if it wasn't made of metal before the stamp was applied.

Long Game 2: The Devil's Den

I just realized the full potential of the Inquisitor. Even if two roles find each other and establish trust between them, the Inquisitor can convert one later and have the perfect spy. This game will be very crazy.- 1232 replies

I love the Szeth one too. Can that be the new cover? Please, Brandon? *puppyspren eyes* SzethxShallan? That's a new one....But actually, I kinda like it, regardless of how much of a crack ship it is. -
Ooh, awesome! By any chance, would you be able to find out how much damage a full on ballista would do? Obviously, it will crack, but will it crack it completely in one blow? If so, then that is probably the best option against a shard bearer. Move a giant ballista to the high ground right before an ambush of the enemy, and just snipe all the enemy shardbearers. Without time for fortifications, though, a giant hammer will work just fine too.

Long Game 2: The Devil's Den
PorridgeBrick replied to Metacognition's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Wow, loving the roles this time around. Hopefully I'll do better this time. I'm Ridge. I do the climbing in the crew. No matter how tall the wall is, how smooth, how heavily guarded, I can get in and let the rest of the crew in. As a result, even my ... peculiarities are tolerated by the rest. You see, I'm always wearing blindfolds. It's not that I'm blind or anything, I'm just not particularly attatched to seeing. Who needs it, after all? Blind people get by just fine, so why not me? And if the radiance of my eyes was shown to the public, all the women would swoon. Sure, Gamon might think he's hot stuff, but I know for a fact that I, and I alone, am the most fabulous guy in this city. The haters disagree, but they're just jealous. But I'm nice, and I'm very careful to handicap myself. Blindfolds, garishly clashing outfits, and overly baggy pants are the only way I can level the playing field. I don't want to make everyone else feel inadequate, after all. If you couldn't tell from that, for this game I am also taking on the role of the cassanova. But instead of being an actual cassanova, I'll be the complete opposite of an actual cassanova, who only thinks he is one. It should add some interesting tension and rivalries, right?- 1232 replies

I do have to agree with JesseQ. Kaladin is 100% white here, which kinda bothers me now that it's been brought up. Darker skinned characters, particularly protagonists, are so rare in fantasy that it's really a shame he's been white-washed here. Ultimately, it doesn't really make a difference to who he is, but it still would add some diversity to the genre. -

If it is a landing, it's an exceedingly moronic one. Notice how the lines of force all stem from his fist? To do that, he would have had to land almost entirely on his fist. Now, I don't fly very often, but slamming into the ground at several gravities worth of velocity on only your fist seems to me an extremely easy way to break things. Badly. Not only that, but I'm pretty sure he's throwing a bad punch, which can break your hand at normal velocities. His wrist is very strongly flexed outwards, so even a little force would push it beyond its normal range of motion. -

Eh, the artist is very skilled and detailed, but the posing is still rather goofy, if improved. Why are all the corpses in one pile, and why in the world is Szeth standing on them? Is he a cat? Does he have an overwhelming urge to be on top of things? And why is Kaladin looking out at us from the cover and ignoring the very dangerous enemy that is RIGHT THERE on top of the giant hill of dead people? Why is he punching the ground? The ground isn't the enemy, Kal. Maybe you should focus your "Hulk SMASH!" desires on the guy who's trying to kill you? -
That is most definitely not a universal opinion. I myself don't believe in capital punishment. Anyway, Hemalurgy to me can only be justified if it is done in the most clean and painless possible method, and the hemalurgist was already in a position where he would be forced to kill him/her anyway. say you're defending yourself against a Gold compounder: in that case, your only option would be to shoot him in the heart with Pewter and steal his Allomantic gold to stop him from regenerating and killing you. Other than that, though, I personally find the act of making a hemalurgic spike evil, and I'm okay with that. It's just an action, and not all actions need be so morally gray or justifiable.

Except Peter confirmed that Surface Tension is orders 9-10. No ifs about it. Besides, they're talking about soulcasting essences there, not surges: the essence of #5 is wood, plants, etc, and the essence of #10 is flesh, meat.
-
I think the boulder, when it was first soulcasted, was just a boulder-shaped mass of highly compressed smoke, with the same, shape, mass, density, etc. Of course, since smoke isn't naturally that dense, it exploded outwards. I think soulcasting by nature doesn't change the shape, size, or mass of an object, but just its chemical composition. Of course, this would have to work differently when you soulcasting a gas into a solid, rather than the other way around, but most of the time it works that way.

Actually, in real life the geographic and magnetic poles don't have to line up either. Uranus, for example, has a 60 degree difference between its axis of rotation and its... "magnetic axis", for lack of a better term.
