You're new. Well, new-ish anyway; that might not seem like a compliment, but it is. I've been here a while, so sometimes it can be kind of rote; click on, see what's going on(don't do much), turn off. Seeing new faces is kind of encouraging, because it helps reminds me that this community is growing, and that while I may have become familiar with something, it's good to know that there are always people who are just discovering the cosmere and all it's wonders. Also, you are apparently the parent of something that is very necessary, so, keep up the good work.

Having a Bad Day? Stop here for a Good Rant!
Quiver replied to traceria's topic in General Discussion
I dunno how to break it to you Twi, but I remember hearing that Cyborg was in this movie too. I mean, from the stuff I heard, I'm guessing its his "normal" identity, and then he'll by Cyborg-ised in Justice League, but... still. I agree. At most, I wouldn't have minded Wonder Woman making a cameo in the stinger; I've always liked DC's Trinity, so if they absolutely had to have more heroes, I would be fine with her in it. (Besides, we need more super heroines on screen, but thats neither here nor there). I think part of the problem is that the good DC movies- the Superman, the Tim Burton Batman, the Dark Knight Trilogy- have been... not "artsy" movies, but they've all had their own unique identity, look and tone. I love the Marvel films, and there certainly is variations for each film- I love the fact that Captain America is basically just a pulp war movie- but there is also a single guiding "feel" to the movies, in terms of color palette and tone. The good DC movies, on the other hand, have been the ones which take those characters and present their own takes on those characters; it's difficult to see Bale!Batman coexisting with Reeve!Superman, for instance. And that's not a bad thing; I just think that creating a cohesive universe for DC is easier in the comics, where colorists and stuff can blend thigns together better than they can onscreen. I'm really into the current Justice League run, even though it's a team that consists of a space cop, a warrior princess, an alien, and a dude who dresses like a Bat. On the page, that line-up works. On screen, it's a lot harder to pull off... and I don't think Man of Steel gives a good foundation to work off of. -
This thread is the embodiment of the Knight Radient ideals. The destination doesn't matter; all that's important is the often I circuitous Journey to get there.

Eh, might as well post. I'm (technically) Catholic; I was baptised, believe the sacraments, etc. In practice, I've lapsed; a lot. I haven't attended mass in some time, and my faith in the church has been damaged as a result if recent scandals and the fact that I have beliefs (like being supportive of homosexuality) which the church doesn't share. Still... Catholic. Just...don't expect me to be a font of information or anything.

I imagine- to some extent- it's a left over from Tudors. For anyone who isn't aware, the simplified version is: Henry VI broke with the Catholic Church and made the Church of England the offical state religion of England. When he died, he was succeeded by his daughter, Mary who enforced Catholicism as the state religion rather... vigorously. There was a reason she got the title "Blood Mary" after all. Upon her death, she was succeeded by her sister Elizabeth, who overturned Mary's decision, but generally put a blind eye towards Catholics so long as they publicly followed the church of England, and kept their own religious practices private. Furthermore, when Elizabeth reigned, England's main enemy was Spain- which was strongly Catholic. There isn't (at least as much world-shattering) argument between various Christian countries nowadays, but I think that backdrop- occuring at a time when the British Empire was expanding- probably has something to do with why they choose they identify themselves as one denomination or the other. There was a period of history where being with or against the Catholic church (ie: what denomination you were) was kind of a big deal.

I have to second that. Also, by using the umbrella term of "Chrisian", you bring it in line with the other options (you don't have options specifically for Sunni or Shia Muslims, for instance), and you leave it vague enough that, if someone wants to elaborate on their faith in the comment section then they can.

Having a Bad Day? Stop here for a Good Rant!
Quiver replied to traceria's topic in General Discussion
This isn't exactly a rant; more just... me complaining. (And apologising to anyone I've bothered with stuff in the process). I have no idea what's going on but lately... I'unno. I don't like saying I've been manic-depressive, because I'm not, and saying that I am is a huge insult and slap in the face to those who are... but lately I've been having some mood swings. Most of the time I feel fine- the usual energetic, pony-poster you guy's love hate tolerate- but... I'unno. Sometimes, it feels like a switch just flips, and it gets kind of tough to put effort into things, and suddenly I feel a whole lot worse about myself and the way I act; that I bother everyone and get on people's nerves. Which is also why I tend to apologize a lot more, even though that seems like the best way to actively make people be annoyed at me. So... I have no idea where I'm going with this. Out-sourcing it to you guys, I suppose? Anything ya'll would recommend to keep me feeling perky? -
Y'know, it just occurs to me that I haven't actually shared some of my favorite headcanon's here. Which is wierd, since I have a huge ego, so telling you guys what I think about things should have been the first thing I did. Oh well. Here are two head canon's I came up with fairly recently which I'm actually rather proud of, and which are -somewhat- connected, with some (very mild) spoilers from the season five premiere, for anyone who hasn't seen it yet. Shadowbolts Headcanon Night Glider Headcanon

Hmm. My big point at the moment, regarding the Potter name, has already been said... Still, I'll think about this and get back to you. I've always like the idea of music as a kind of magic.

I've heard a few of McGann's audio plays, and all I can say is YES. Eight is amazing, and the only reason why i ever bother to watch that film. I like John Hurt- he's perfectly fine-... but he was also completely unnecessary. McGann would have killed it as the War Doctor; it even could have explained his cotume change, that the green frock coat was how he chose to remember himself because that was the "Good" Eight... and the War Doctor was evil. Plus, imagine all the meta-commentary. "He's the one who broke the promise"- because he's an American Doctor, so he isn't the same as the rest of the (British) show. He destroyed Gallifrey? "Oh look, an American blowing things up again". The Doctors departing on good terms could have been the perfect way to integrate Eight into full canon, and would have been a pretty great gesture to McGann I think; he really deserved more. (And yes, I know Eight has appeared in flashes before... but we don't know exactly what his canon adventures are. I just feel like not using Eight was a misstep, because McGann is amazing)

Sorry, I should have clarified. Part of my head canon is that, because Ponyville isnn't usually a hub of classical music, Octavia had to get a second job reaping souls on the side to pay her bills. It's most certainly not a typo. Nope.

I'd recommend checking out this website. As well as having interesting articles and reviews, they talk about different cultures and mythology sometimes, so maybe something there might give you some ideas? Anyway... an idea I've kind of been toying with for a few days, mostly because I kind of like the visual... I kind of had an idea for a world where... cities and societies are built on top of (or inside) the bones of larger animals. Specifically, the idea i had in mind was that human cities are built on the bones of what we would recognize as the Elder Gods, with each god being large enough to constitute it's own city-states; so there's one society that's built around the remains of Cthullu, one around the fossilised remains of Shub-Niggurath and it's thousand young, and so on. I haven't quite figured out what to do with it, exactly; I might adapt the idea and use it with the Printing Magic system I invented waaaaay back when... but I imagine that building your home on top of an Elder God burial site would not be productive to sane living.

Don't have one, so I'm gonna fall back on Hot's Rods sweet Alt Mode again. "Let's get to work." - Angel ...This needs context though. On it's own, it's just one of those standard, hero-being-stoic. As part of the broader theme of the episode and the series- that one should do good deeds because that's the right thing to do, not because they will be rewarded- that line has stayed with me; particulary since it's delivered as the ending of a show, when the heroes are up against a force which they are, certainly, going to lose fighting against. No more books. If I wanted to, I could download "manuscripts" (not book!) from websites, and I'd still have fanfiction. My "favorite" tends to vary, but it's usually either Cammy, Ken, Guile or Sagat. I was very fond of the Dolls in Alpha, though they were pretty much Cammy clones, so... Eggs. Urgh; I hate the smell of them, the look of them, just... yuck. Yellow. Sometimes blue, and (admittedly), I'm developing a fondness for purple. Fantasy, all the way.

To live in? I like the UK. Not too warm, not too cold. Visually, the tundra and mountains are good. In terms of writing, though, I've always wanted to do a story set in a desert environment. It was actually what my first fantasy idea was, and I think deserts are pretty cool.

I have no idea. Fortunatly Kipper does, so...see below? It would be a strange name. Maybe appropriate- a quiver is what holds an archers arrows after all- but it sounds a little awkward. If Green Arrow has to have a base name, I guess I'd prefer it be something low key or else archery related, but I have no idea what. Never had ramen. Brandon Sanderson. But cosmere aside, I don't seek out nonfiction books often, and when I do its on a specific subjects, so I don't look for authors. Eh, I liked jelly babies, but haven't had them in quite a while.
