  1. Hmm, fair enough. (I picked up my monthly comics earlier this week. One of them was Grayson, which was a deconstruction of Dick's character so...got me curious, since the Batfamily is so shaped by tragedy)
  2. I'm wondering if it qualifies as "broken". A lot if stuff about Bruce emphasises that he is NOT vulnerable, emotionally, intellectually or otherwise...but again, that comes from a very specific set of circumstances. Its just a random thought I had; if the Batman already fills the cracks that spren magic needs to take route in Bruce's soul.
  3. Would Batman be a Knight Radiant? I'm not sure if Bruce's reaction to his parents deaths ("become a Bat and terrify everyone") counts as breaking. Everyone points out how stoic and badass Batman is, so... Would that same stoicism preclude him from bonding a spren?
  4. Fun fact! The adoption of the Gregorian calendar resulted in eleven days being "lost". According to some sources, peasents in England protested against it, demanding their eleven days back.
  5. You young whippersnappers. I remember back when I joined, I was the only one who recommended Warbreaker! In the rain! Uphill, both ways! ...though I do think Mistborn is better to start with. Which is neither here nor there.
  6. Can I say I prefer Korra and pick from there? Seems like I'd have a better chance of learning the advanced bending arts -Lightning, Magma, Metal- from that era.
  7. Sure, Dalinar is talking about reforming the Knight Radiants...but remember what that means in-world. The Radiants were the ones who abandoned and betrayed humanity according to Vorinism. They were fairly heretical. Not to mention the fact that Renarin was seeing the future (another heresy), and is already marked as being 'abnormal' among the Alethi for his blood weakness. Why volunteer the information of his Radiancy, even if he knew what he was? At best, he's a heretic, at worst... Well, he's already considered 'weird and creepy' by Shall an, and a disgrace by other Highprinces. Why would he add 'Knight Radiant' to that list? For which matter, how would he even broach the topic with Dalinar? It was clearly something Renarin was ashamed of- he very likely was terrified what Dalinar might think or react to it.
  8. Sorry! Really rushed right now, which is why this is less thorough than it should be... Public Action Who: Tyren Queade What: Upgrading the Courthouse Where: Luthadel When: Action 3 Why: to gain a bit of respect with the Steel Ministry canton who oversees Laws, and to try and earn a little extra money from it.
  9. I should have been clearer- sorry! What I meant was, I hope that Jasnahs dislike for marriage does stem from a personal choicechoice, or her nature, rather than being a consequence of some traumatic experience. Sorry if I gave the wrong impression! Just meant my post as laying out possible evidence, rather than what I believe...sorry!
  10. Much as I dislike the 'bad experience with men' explanation... it is one that might be backed up by Jasnah's disdain for marriage, both when Gavilar suggested her and Amaram, and her own reaction to Shallan's chances. (I hope it isn't, but...like I said, possible evidence) Still, it seems like she was broken before Gavilar's death, as Maxal says, since she met Ivory in the WoR prologue. As for any other possible solutions... I got nothing I need to do a reread...
  11. Okay, serious topic necroing, I know. But. In my defence, this is a topic which is still fascinating and still very relevant (and possibly could be expanded to "gender and sexuality roles in fiction), and one which I would really like to see people's responses too. ...not to mention the fact that this topic got derailed at the time, and the main voices leading the derailing argument are either inactive or else banned so... Anyone interested in continuing/restarting this topic of thought? What do you think of how gender is presented in fiction? (If mods figure this is too contentious, or that this thread is too old and better off left dead...sorry for my vile necromancy, and please feel free to lock or delete it!
  12. I have to back up Titan on this. Warbreaker is, far and away, my favourite book, and one which is somewhat underappreciated I feel.
  13. Oh, Mononoke! Awesome! (I know, I know, not her name, whatever) Anyhow, welcome! Your the latest in a long line if people to suggest Worm, so I really need to get around to reading that... Anyway, welcome! So...mind if I ask what your favourite cosmere book is?
  14. Because Twilight didn't know in canon. More seriously, in-universe...my explanation is that Celestia still feels guilty and awkward about it- partly because of how intensely she hates Discord, and her guilt over Luna. (Plus, its easier to go with 'fairy tale princess' than 'my immortal sister-turned-demonic-halloween-figure and I'). Probably, but...felt a little guilty about posting them there. Which is irrational, but...yeah.
  15. It might depend on whether Elan still "counts" as a priest/prophet/whatever of Banjo. Didn't he basically hand him over to some other group? ...I need to do a third reread, it seems. Anyone want to make it a forum activity?
  16. Well, I (finally) got up to date in the series again.
  17. Okay. So. Wasn't sure whether to post this/these here or in the Creator's Corner. I decided to put them here since... otherwise I'd feel like I was spamming up that board, and I figured they would be of more interest to people who frequent this topic specifically anyway. (Of course, if'n ya'all think I should move them to the Creative Corner instead, tell me, and I'll do that). So, um... yes. I... uh... I have written some MLP fan fiction for a while. I recently finished the second of these pieces, and I have others that I'm working on. I've also bothered people from this site with them (with regards pre-reading/opinions/etc), so... What the heck, might as well bite the bullet and post them publically, right? So... Symphonies Rock A Vinyl-Octavia comedy Constellations Celestia-focused story featuring Twilight and one of my headcanon's.
  18. Fair point! Arrow and Agents of Shield. For a plot, I'm thinking about Grant Ward arriving in Starling, and Coulson and company getting in touch with "Agent Queen" to track him down.
  19. Anyone got any advice for writing crossover fan fiction? I'm debating whether or not to do a crossover story, and wondering what stuff would be important to bare in mind...
  20. For reading order: I have always, always, always maintained that reading Warbreaker immediatly after the original Mistborn is the best way to do things. Warbreaker - in a lot of ways- echoes and plays with a lot of the themes and tropes of the Mistborn series, so I think reading them close to one another really make's both books look better by comparision. And, of course, since you've just read Warbreaker, moving on to the Stormlight Archive after that makes sense... though I'd put a "buffer" (like Wax and Wayne) between Warbreaker and SA. For spoiler reasons. Basically, what I'm saying is the order I read the books in was the best. Even if it means I still haven't read Elantris...
  21. I don't. Ledger's Joker was incredible, the best thing about the Dark Knight and one of the most terrifying and amazing performances I saw in a film that year. But... no one shold ever try copy-catting that performance again. It was iconic, incredible, terrifying and briliant... but the Joker has had 75 years of History. He's had lot's of different versions, lots of different takes. Drawing from different version's of the character can only be a good thing, because it means there is more variety to it. We've seen the Joker as a prankster, a mob boss, a man who wants to set the world on fire... The idea behind this Joker is, I think, kind of interesting. Batfleck is old (and they are drawing from the DKR lore, which presents Batman as kind of oppressive and almost fascist, if you want to look at it in a certain light); a youthful Joker, reacting against that in the most outlandish way possible is kind of an interesting idea. But -as I've said in other places- the way they are executing it seems more in line with the Jokerz of Batman Beyond, rather than the Joker himself. (It's one of the reasons I hope the theory below is true. It would be an interesting idea. ) By the way: You notice how I cut out the "and retarded" part of your comment? As a bit of advice, I'd recommend not using that word. It really isn't appropriate.
  22. Am I the only one who is still slightly baffled that Twi's parents plan on dropping by, rather than making her make the trip to see them? As always...sympathy. Good luck with job hunting, and even better luck at running into the distance shouting "I'm free, I'm free!"
  23. Can I just back this up? Golems are very cool...but I can't think of many examples of them in books. Discworld, really, is the only one that comes to mind...
