  1. First of all, wow, yeah. Gonna have to echo that "super disgusting and problematic" part of it. Secondly... I have to admit, I'm coming at this with a difference of opinion, but my immediate reaction to the problem and the pitch isn't that this character reminds me of Daredevil. She actually kind of sounds like Black Canary, at least, Black Canary as she was presented in the Arrowverse. To whit: the original Black Canary was introduced by beating up men who were assaulting a woman. The second Black Canary - while not specifically targeting misogynists - was a lawyer by day, vigilante by night. (The comic book Black Canary is different... but she has a whole other kind of prestige and is, in general, just an awesome lady.) So... yeah, I can see someone becoming a superhero to address injustices towards women. (Not to derail the topic, but I actually have a superheroine idea kind of related to something similar, but... other story, other topic.)
  2. Hey, let's be fair here: Scar successfully committed regicide, and ousted the lawful heir from the lands. If his minions weren't so downright lazy and actually killed Simba, he'd have won right there. ... And actually, with the reveals related to the Set in Band of Mourning, "I've got friends on the other side" might be suitable....
  3. So what you're saying is that The Lord Ruler is Scar?
  4. The only other story I think you NEED to read something first is Edgedancer. It takes place at a specific moment of the Stormlight Archive books, and could contain major spoilers. So definitely read Way of Kings and Words of Radiance before that one. (I'd actually go further and suggest reading Warbreaker before you read Way of Kings.. but that's because Warbreaker is best Cosmere) Shadows for Silence and Sixth of the Dusk don't go with any books; they are stand alone stories set on their own worlds.
  5. I'm not exactly the most well-informed of relamantics or WoB's, but my assumption was actually that the shardplate needing gemstones to be regrown and powered is a point in favour of them needing those things. The difference between Shardplate and Shardblade gemstones, so far as I can see, is that the gemstones on Shardblades are entirely decorative. You take out the gemstone, and the sword continues to work just fine. But if you remove the gemstone from the Shardplate, it... doesn't work. (Well, okay, it works when one infuses it with stormlight... but I imagine that means that the gemstones are how the Plate is supposed to work, with stormlight being used by Radiants if they run out of juice. Basically, I read stormlight as the back-up generator for when the electricity (or, rather, gemstone) runs out) But as I say... I'm not well-versed in thi stuff, and I haven't read Roshar in a long while. Maybe I'm forgetting something?
  6. 'kay so. First off: White Sand and Arcanum Unbound all relate to the Cosmere, rather than being parts of Brandon's other works. White Sand is set on Taldain, which hasn't been featured in any of the other novels yet. Actually, White Sand was intended to be a stand alone novel, but when Brandon was asked by Dynamite for any manuscripts they could turn into a graphic novel, he suggested that book. As a result, graphic novel!White Sand is -right now- the official version of that story, though you can receive an early draft of the original White Sand if you email Brandon's team and request it. Arcanum Unbound is a collection of his short stories and essays relating to the Shardworlds, and is a general mix of worlds which we've already seen, and stories which are set on all-new worlds. Each novel is preceeded by an essay from the in-universe author, Khriss, commenting on the world in question. Brandon also gives a foreword for each which, I think, mentions if it's set on a world we have or haven't seen yet. As a caveat: I would recommend reading the Wax/Wayne Mistborn series before starting on the Mistborn stories in the collection. On the same point, you should read the Stormlight Archive before reading Edgedancer.
  7. Am I the only one picturing the Lord Ruler getting a huge solo villain song, but the character being too lethargic to actually be bothered to sing it?
  8. Congratulations! I think this make you to first person to survive hemalurgy! ... Snark aside, I'll add that there are probably a character or two I've missed from the above list. BUT, I think most of those characters end up as antagonists, or dying as a telegraphed arc; I can't really think of anyone else who dies an unexpected, traumatic death. But like I said, I might/probably am forgetting someone.
  9. Anyone seen it yet? (I'm typing this right as the trailers start, so...reaction later )
  10. The impact of death kind of comes from not knowing it's gonna happen. That being said, if you really want to know...
  11. I'm not even sure what an IPS is. But... well, seems to be working now, and my (repeated) scans and stuff haven't turned up anything, so... could it just be a weird technical glitch? Or my computer struggling to load for... whatever reasons?
  12. Dunno if this helps, but there's a story Irish kids hear when we're in school to explain that. See, when Saint Patrick was trying to teach the Irish Christianity, he had to explain the concept of the Trinity to them. And the Trinity was a strange concept; so, what he did was he picked up a shamrock. The Trinity, he explained, was like a shamrock; three distinct parts, separate from one another, but still part of the one thing and the one whole. ... Of course, I'm not a very good Christian, so I'mma gonna kick this out to people who are vastly more well-versed in this topic than I am @TwiLyghtSansSparkles @Erunion Does the shamrock metaphor hold up under scrutiny?
  13. I actually moved this from the Tech Support forum, since... I wasn't sure if it WAS a Shard problem or just me. No one else I asked about it seemed to have had that problem. Er... restarting the browser =/= restarting the computer, right? But, I did actually clear my history, cache etc a few times, restart, re-try... and got the same result. Until, inexplicably, it just started working as normal again. So.. it's working fine NOW, but I admit, I get really worried when tech starts woring and not working inexplicably, so...
  14. I haven't watch AoS since season 2. But I admit to some curiosity. The Inhumans have been pitched as "Game of Thrones in Space," and a television show about political and cultural intrigue in the Marvel Cinematic Universe could be neat.
  15. I don't think this should count, since I misheard the quote. It was sweet as it normally was, but I really like the way I misheard it, so: "We are exactly where who we are supposed to be." Deep, man.
  16. 'kay so, this is weird, and I was wondering if myaybe someone here could provide some insight. So... all day today, I haven't been able to get onto the Shard. More specifically, I haven't been able to access the Shard from my laptop; when I tried it via mobile, it works fine. I just tried my computer again, and... yeah, anytime I type the address in the search back (17thshard.com/forum)... it doesn't work. It loads for maybe a second, then the web page changes to someone saying that they attempted to do a few times, but there is an issue with loading the page. I was able to get signed in on my laptop by going through google and using one of the sub-forums... but anytime I try to go back to the main forum page, I get the same crash and "Nope!" message. Any idea what's causing this? As I say, my mobile device works fine. Furthermore... the Shard was working completely on this laptop for the last few days; so I'm not sure what caused it to have a sudden case of breakage.. For bonus weirdness points: I accidently posted this thread in the Tech Support forum, since... I could only access the site via google searches, and that was the closest to here that I could get. After I posted it... everything seemed to be working fine again? Anyone have any idea what might have caused this? Sorry to bother ya'all! Honestly... I don't GET technology at all, and honestly, whenever stuff inexplicably stops or starts working, I get really worried something major is going on tht I don't know about. So... anyone have any suggestions or insight?
  17. There are two blogs that I really enjoy reading, both of which do analysis of A Song of Ice and Fire. They did a podcast where they talked with each other and their thoughts regarding stuff about the series. I was expecting them to sound "different", of course. What I wasn't expecting was for them to sound like I expected the other person to sound. In other words, Person A? Sounds like how I hear Person B's posts. And Person B has the voice that I read Person A's posts in. This is confusing.
  18. ... with the minor caveat that Taravangian claims that one of the seven was stolen from the Shin recently. Assuming that he wasn't lying to dflect Szeth's frustrations, of course, which is always possible.
  19. Honestly, this just makes me wonder what the in-universe rationale for Adonalsium's name is. Was it a name chosen by itself, or imposed upon it by someone else? Might be RAFO bait though...
  20. I misread a certain topic title as "Musical Adaptation of Way of Kings", so guys. We're doing this. What would the Cosmere books be like as a musical? Anyone got any ideas for songs? Inb4 'Defying Gravity' as Windrunner!Kaladin's big solo number
  21. There's was a love that could never be!
  22. Crack theory: void spren are dark Honor Spren
  23. @Zathoth...just realised I don't talk to you much. Certainly not as much as someone with Death as an avatar deserves. Still, happy birthday!
  24. I only read Darkest Night in trade, but... a lot of BIG stories have taken to showing their twists on the trade covers. For instance... Also... Urgh. Work in the morning.
