@Elenion I suppose it feels like there should be more than one pause, if there are any. At least one more, after Numuhuku. Just my pennies.

Rock as a Bondsmith feels really good. I like this, SERIOUSLY. And, IIRC, Bondsmith and Windrunner share a surge, so developing as a Squire under Kaladin still fits. Rock was also instrumental in Kaladin’s effort to Bond (yep, intentional) with Bridge Four. Based on Dalinar’s Arc, Bondsmith is a facilitating role. They bring integral people together and act as a Hub, forging and maintaining the connections between them. All appearances are that Rock is royalty now. Though, I May have had that suspicion very early in his Arc. Royalty doesn’t typically engage in direct combat roles. The provide guidance and support for the combat roles associated with them. When SHTF, they may take direct action (a’la Rock+Shardbow vs. Amaram) but generally, they do not engage directly.

So how did people figure out that Zahel was Vasher?
IllNsickly replied to Necessary Eagle's topic in Stormlight Archive
I, um... Ahem... Yeah. I was halfway through WoK and found this forum and a link to Warbreaker with discussion about Vasher. I read it sitting on a location one night when I was on Standby for my crane operator. I am also one of the strange people that happily hops straight into a *Spoiler* thread. *shrug* -

Theory about Dustbringer ability to burn things
IllNsickly replied to Numenorean's topic in Stormlight Archive
Well, Oxygen is a catalyst but not flammable. It facilitates the fire, which might work out well for breaking molecular bonds and creating fire from water. That’d be pretty nifty. A Dustbringer being able to manipulate individual atoms as a Resonance. Creating enough friction between atoms to start the chemical reaction. -
Just an aside here, but I remember going to an Opera in Denver, CO. YEARS ago... Absolutely the most beautiful singing i have ever experienced in person. To my untrained ear, every single note perfect. Start to finish, demanded every moment of my attention. Demanding does not necessarily carry negative connotations.

Tien is Dead, definitely Dead Dead. He was, however, very much alive for the early part of Kaladin’s military career. The Pure Voice that Syl heard before she found Kaladin could easily have been Tien’s voice. Considering Kaldin’s recollections and how he viewed and remembers his brother, I think it is very likely that his is the voice that Syl heard before she found Kaladin.

[OB] Things in Oathbringer that are easy to overlook?
IllNsickly replied to Jofwu's topic in Stormlight Archive
“Act with Honour and Honour will aid you” The vision Dalinar has during WoK where he asks if he should trust Sadeas. I know that the vision was acting on a script and that part was non-interactive, HOWEVER. When Dalinar does trust Sadeas and acts with honour, then gets betrayed at the Tower, it is Kaladin’s honour that aids him and by extension Honour via Syl. Mildly prophetic and 100% accurate. I think its pretty nifty. -
[OB] Just finished reading, have small questions
IllNsickly replied to Niteshado's topic in Stormlight Archive
There are lots of WoB’s about how Shallan might be diagnosed. I think ‘Disassociative Identity Disorder’ is the one that sticks out in my memory. Like Toaster said, I dunno much Realmatic Theory. But I assume it is a result of the Oathpact somehow. My interpretation of Odium’s ‘NO, We killed you’... Evi speaks to Dalinar, ‘I forgive you’. Hearing that from her gives him the peace that he was looking for when he went to the Nightwatcher. Really bad for Odium and he knows it. I think Odium was referring to himself and Dalinar burning the Rift and causing Evi’s death. -
@Subvisual Haze I had a genuine LOL. Cheers!! @Calderis as always, said it perfectly. Honourable and Good are not synonymous. WoB says (paraphrased) that the Oaths are Fluid, open to interpretation. Based on Kaladins conversations with Syl, there appears to be a balance between Spren and Radiant. A sort of Checks and Balances. I like this. Especially with Hoid, he is older than EVERYONE, almost. If the Nahael Bond and Oath interpretation is based on perspectives, things is about to get Awesome! Hoids millennias old experience VS the Moral Ambiguity of a Crypic is going to be heavy really soon I think. I have been drinking any my thinker is taking a siesta! I am sure I had more to say, oh well...

Who is your LEAST favorite character in the Cosmere?
IllNsickly replied to Patar's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Spook. Lestibournes... Seriously disliked his character for reasons I can’t really explain. -
[OB] Will Shallan ever find a good (girl) friend?
IllNsickly replied to Dreamstorm's topic in Stormlight Archive
On the topic of Laral... Her limited screen time shows her as a child, skips the intervening time and then shows her as an adult. Sure, Roshone is a hateful cremling and our 3rd person removed perspective strongly dislikes her association with him... However, Duty and Obligation seem to be central to her. Why else would she marry Roshone? Also, it feels awfully like she is In Charge of that situation. She runs that household. Back to the OP. Our experience with Laral (LIMITED) makes it difficult for me to decide how well that relationship would work. I would definitely like to see more screen time from Laral, but I feel like it would work out so well for Shallan at this point. -
I don’t think he was referring to his time in Kholinar specifically. Until very recently, most of Alethkar was reasonably pleasant, even the warcamps were sort of a cultural center. He may very well have enjoyed himself in Kholinar, though. He has very odd perspectives on Life, The Cosmere and Everything. Perhaps the things he did off screen in Kholinar were productive and enjoyable. While Shallan, Kaladin & Co. were there, he did spend quite a lot of time being an entertainer. Never underestimate the effect of small morale boosts.

[OB] Little late but...thoughts, questions and issues
IllNsickly replied to ColonelMatt's topic in Stormlight Archive
I am on a relisten of The whole SA and really only have one issue. Every time I hear the Surges and their respective granted abilities referred to as ‘Powers’ it is jarring and takes me out of the story for a few minutes. It sounds Campy and... I dunno... It just bothers me. I really dislike how jars me out of the story, especially how often it is said. -
Nifty. I like it, so I’m sure someone will come along to refute it.

In the middle of WoR on a reread. I was like... ‘WAIT... What the Storms!?!’

[OB] What parts of Oathbringer touched you?
IllNsickly replied to MonsterMetroid's topic in Stormlight Archive
The edge of page 449, I think it was. Got a bit of a papercut. But, Jasnah/Renarin and Dalinar vs The Thrill were probably the biggest ones. -
In the middle of a SA leg of a Cosmere reread and the scene with Hoid, Shallan, Kaladin and Adolin just struck me. When Our Favorite Worldhopper is challenged about potential romantic interests, he deflects with a comment about the only Potential Match based on age being incompatible. I really want to know what he did to the Holder of Cultivation. I need this to be a Cosmere/SA Novella.

[OB] Does anyone else like Jasnah?
IllNsickly replied to The Night Watcher's topic in Stormlight Archive
Ok, just gonna toss my jots on the pile... Rude Snob = Elitist Jerk. I get where you’re at with this. At the same time, though, I get where She is at with this. Single minded determination in conjunction with a Superior education and Exceptional Intelligence lends itself to that sort of behaviour. I’ve a 16 year old nephew who does this with music. Aspbergers... And I absolutely appreciate this about Jasnah’s personality. In the same vein, Exceptional Intelligence and Interpersonal Skills have been, in my experience, inversely proportionate. Of course Jasnah has terrible people skills. She has devoted her entire life to Scholarship, Books, scrolls, remnants and scraps of knowledge. With the exception of asking Ardents about specific writings or topics, her people skills as an adult have been developed by interaction with Ardents, Porters, and whomever was conveying her from place to place. Ostensibly ~10-15 years. Shallan commented about her ‘Chronic Condition,’ I believe. That of being Right. She has unrealistic expectations of those around her? ABSOLUTELY. Navani was probably the best weathervane she had as a child and we have already heard Navani’ commentary on Child Jasnah. Jasnah is a machine. Work until you have your solution, then attack the next Thing on your mind. She is probably the most consistently intelligent Person on Roshar. By Accepting Shallan as her ward she has allowed herself to begin Humanizing her emotions, even if it is unintentionally. Our Favorite Bridgeman has already proven himself as respectably intelligent. As such, any Interactions they may have in the future will further Jasnah’s Human growth. TL;DR: Please reserve Judgement on Jasnah for another book or two. -
[OB] Taln's brief moment of lucid thought
IllNsickly replied to scottos's topic in Stormlight Archive
I was under the impression that Shallash was the primer for his lucidity? -
I guess I don’t see there being any more Stormlight cost to her increasing her friction as opposed to decreasing it. Cultivation has already shown a longer view of things with Dalinar, so I assume that she knew what she was doing with Lift. I think that the Food to Stormlight conversion won’t be a detriment going forward. Especially considering Lift now has at least 3 separate bases of operation. Plenty of opportunity for food.

@Sazedezas She is always Starvin’. So, there you have it.

Amigo, The Lopen is a bit too much. Anything less in a spren would be unworthy.
