  1. This is when Syl's abusive ex from the Cognitive comes along and smacks Kal up good with his little fairy fists. Meanwhile, Jasnah is pregnant and she's not saying who the father is, and Adolin struggles with his addiction to the Thrill, prompting Renarin and Navani to plan an intervention. Tune in next week for more Stormlight Soap Opera!
  2. Honestly, I love all the snarky character's dialogue. Hoid in all his incarnations, Shallan, Lightsong, Breeze, Wayne. Syl's innocence is hilarious as well. I can't read the "I know what sarcasm is" line without laughing.
  3. A question for Peter: How often do you see us miss something you guys planned to be obvious?
  4. That would be cool. Especially in combination with a Shardblade summoning. Focusing on the heartbeat, starting to glow, gemstones winking out around her...then at the tenth heartbeat a shardblade appears and Shallan goes full badass.
  5. Painspren aren't that difficult to attract - shallan attracts them with angst and tears. Anyway, I think the gems themselves are what attract the spren, rather than needing to bait them some other way, based on the wording of the notebook. There's even a diagram of the proper cut of gem to attract a painspren, though the way it's angled makes it difficult to tell if it's the same one as is in the agoknife.
  6. Then we have Honorblades, Shardblades, and Odium-corrupted Blades?
  7. I'm not sure it would do anything, or it would affect feruchemical tapping, wouldn't it?
  8. Notice, however, that she can Of course, given that there are people who can do Shallan's Memory thing here on earth, it is possible that she just has a photographic memory combined with excellent artistic talent, and uses the blinking as a mnemonic device. And thinks of drawing people as snipping off bits of their souls and collecting them. Do you know how creepy that sounded to me when I heard it?! But I digress.
  9. Why doesn't anyone think that PAINspren are used in fabrials causing PAIN? I mean, I might be drastically misinformed, but that seems a bit of a no-brainer to me.
  10. Poor dinosaur... He wasn't self-concious about his size before this...
  11. Aweful LUCK (spinnerspinnerspinnerspinner)
  12. I think the spren-worship is the only part of Rock that he can't keep an ironic distance from.
  13. They are capitalised She is in an order of Surgebinders who are all about illusion and creating pictures They allow her to see certain spren They disappear when she's done with them/moved them. (Feruchemical copper anyone?) This all screams "magic" at me. I'm thinking "Illumination" is more like "projection of mental images" or even just "manipulation of senses" based on this.
  14. On your first point... Yes. First, read tvtropes page on Knight Templar. Second, consider the arguments made by Marx, Lenin, and Stalin that communism was the best for everybody involved. Even Hitler (yes I know I just lost automatically) used the good of the Aryan race to justify much of what he did.
  15. The greatest advantage of stormwardens (for a king) is probably that nobody likes them much anyways due to their religiously dubious practices. Need a scapegoat? "Look an intellectual practising an art scraping close to being religiously taboo! He's been using the dark arts of Voidbringing to increase the cost of living!"
  16. Dark purple always seemed pretty evil to me.
  17. I wonder if those attributes could be interpreted as the ancient Alethi highprince positions (War, Law, Trade, Information, etc.?)
  18. Reasons: a.) He charges onto the battlefield in WoK against the chasmfiend, strangely confidant. b.) Brandon wrote "Renarin sees a spren no one else sees" or something in Feather's copy of WoK c.) EDIT: Thank you Jason. Also fixed spelling.
  19. Or Shallan. I can see her making some sort of only slightly serious argument that her powers of transformation and creativity fit the Vorin descriptions of the Almighty. Though Syl and Kaladin having a similar conversation based on Syl either misunderstanding or being piercingly accurate about the human definition of a god is possible as well.
  20. Sounds like lightsong in reverse
  21. Plus, check the glyphs for profiles thread for hi-res and arty versions of many of them, done by our own aWESomeness
  22. Tears fall, a broken man, eyes burning cold and white - and cold burnt eyed men -broken, falling, torn.
  23. She did mention that she felt like she could slide all the way to the sea. I'm loving the idea of Lift just skidding frictionless down a highway with a Slicked sled full of dinner rolls being tugged behind her. Every so often, she grabs and messily devours one before chucking the crust at a gaping pedestrian.
