  1. We have Shallan meeting her spren, death threats, Ivory, namedropping Shards and Surges, Kal hitting it of with El over shared paranoia, Dalinar naming and putting into action his reunification plans, while Moash gets a good character milestone under the hood, and the we haven't gotten to the hooks?! Never a dull moment on Roshar, is there?
  2. Pewter compounding. This makes you into the Hulk.
  3. Basically, Mistborn can find anything magical, Feruchemists can do their thing eternally anywhere, and hemalurgy can steal anything anywhere. While other systems are less limited in practical effects, Scadrial's cache of barely explored metamagic is enormous
  4. If a trained Surgebinder who has dedicated decades to research or is simply terrible at fighting is on the battlefield, it's a last resort. Imagine Shallan in the middle of a pitched battle - she just isn't a soldier of any description.
  5. The poor writing seemed deliberate to me - fudging glyphs to give them dual meanings.
  6. Harder than the Elantrianess. A practising Elantrian can whip up an illusion, whereas Forgery always leaves the seal
  7. The other Rosharians have Asian-type eyes and darker skin, I think. Wide eyes, light skin, and Baldness are all child like attributes.
  8. It seems weirdly appropriate to me that honour deals with clearcut, natural forces, while cultivation deals with the tangly business of minds, illusion, healing, soulcasting etc. These all seem less streamlined but more nuanced than Gravity, Pressure, etc.
  9. Even forgery has the raised seals
  10. They cut they Spiritual, apparently. For some reason, the Spiritual aspect of living things can be sliced without affecting the physical directly. Cut the spine, though, and their eyes go *poof*
  11. For flamespren - who are aren't even sentient. It's like assuming a spider monkey works identically to a human.
  12. However, a few pounds of iron would keep you going for a while - Gems lose Stormlight on their own, the Dor exists only on Sel, and Breaths aren't as combat-oriented. A feruchemist would be set for life by definition.
  13. Shallan and her "special" spren, best buddies for life while one of them is frozen in character development?
  14. On a more serious note, why are they called liespren? Are they attracted to great acts of storytelling? The Transformation and Illumination (Illusion) Order of the KR fits this perfectly. Shallan, living a lie, assuming the mantle of a profession devoted to truth, becomes a master of transformation and illusion. Her secrets are powerful because she values them so deeply - and because her illusions are powered by truth via the spren, all her lies have a truth at their core, while all the truths she speaks are devoted to maintaining a lie.
  15. Allomancy is efficient, brutal, and fast. No other magic system yet gives its users the ability to use a bag of coins as an effective shotgun. A good Mistborn could drain Szeth of Stormlight with a constant barrage of coins/nails, forcing him to operate a Reverse Lashing full-time. From the AoL era, you could just toss a stick of dynamite with a metal band on it at him and Push it to reduce the effect of his lashings. If he's wearing metal, a duralumin Push could probably drill a hole in him, at which point he'd be weak and drained of stormlight and you could flare Pewter and go for some dueling cane beatdowns.
  16. The point is not to actually be successful - it's to use the seer himself as a window into the future by observing his movements at 300x mind speed and initiating a reaction. As soon as this registers for him, you watch his reaction and begin the motion to react to it. Your shadows will be less a cloud than a single shadow springing in a different direction every time he tries to react to it. Definetly frustrating. Also, who is Phantom?
  17. (Overostentatious music) Your AGENT has evolved into a ... REGENT! REGENT can learn a new move: ROYAL EDICT! Regent can learn a new move: CROWN BASH!
  18. Atium shadows, remember? I wonder if you could duplicate the effects of Atium through zinc compounding, creating an atium shadow by starting to respond to every movement a Seer begins to make bare milliseconds after they make it?
  19. You need very little metal, however - it's not too difficult to be a tin savant even in a city filled with rampant civil unsettlement. An allomancer with a pound of steel could go for a year, probably. We haven't even gotten started on the metamagical implications of Aluminum, Bronze, Copper, Chromium, Nicrosil, or Lerasium's spiritweb reshuffling, or even Atium's dodging/auto-MacGyvering.
  20. Rhyme Amyd with hammed, then pronounce latn with the tn as a single, exotic syllable?
  21. I think we need to stop making silly analogies and accept that it's magic. It has rules, but they will in some ways resemble the relationships between almost anything. We have established that Investiture acts nominally like fuel, unless it works like a lake, unless it works like an inter dimensional serpent. Perhaps explaining the magic in direct terms compared to each other with specific terminology will work better.
  22. Colours are symbolic motifs - they may be associated to make magic flashy, foreshadow, etc. but I don't think that their colour is a defining characteristic - more like, say, a character who always wears a certain colour. The Joker, for example - he wears purple clothes, but this is just an accent to his character rather than a defining focus of it.
  23. Here's some wild speculation: Wistiow let out an incredibly important death rattle... one to do with inheritance. It either ambiguouly accused someone of stealing something "out of my reach" or something similar, or ambiguously encouraged the same to take up that inheritance. However, it made it clear it wasn't talking about the goblet of spheres, even though Lirin convinced himself of it mostly. But he still felt like he stole them.
  24. In my opinion, it was blue because colour is an attribute things have. The attribute it had was blue. Why? Why not? Symbolically, blue can represent purity, peace, calm, the sky, water, etc.
  25. Note also that the nonsense Quentin said is nonsense in the slang as well.
