  1. Magic makes you drunk.
  2. And, being Vin, she's suspicious as hell about it.
  3. Unless you're Odius, of course. What if the only way to transfer ownership of a Shardblade is to kill someone with it? If anyone remembers Davy Jones' heart from Pirates of the Carribean, something like that, only the other way around. We have WoB that there would be consequences for using one type of shardblade wrong http://www.theoryland.com/intvmain.php?i=977 And if these are the Honorblades, the consequence would be giving up your own Heraldhood, and dying in a manner reminiscent of that dude from Mistborn, you know who I mean.
  4. http://www.theoryland.com/intvmain.php?i=977 We have seen three different types of Shardblades. I know that this has been discussed to death, but I'm going to say some things and you can't stop me! Data: Three types Hypothesis: There are the regular Shardblades like Dalinar's, long and made to kill BIG THINGS; there are the shorter shardblades like Szeths, made to kill human sized things; there are the Honorblades, presumably also made to kill big things. Data: Most shardblades can be used for any purpose with impunity, some cannot. Hypothesis: We have seen Dalinar kill Parshmen by the dozen with his blade, he is able to kill chasmfiends, he is able to kill people, he is able to cut through rock. Szeth is also able to cut rock, he can kill people, and presumably, he can kill Parshmen though it's not confirmed. That leaves the Honorblades: they can kill things, they can stab into the rock - but can they kill people? I presume that they cannot, or that using them in such a way would destroy them. Perhaps they work like Hemalurgic spikes, trapping Odius investiture, or Nightblood, needing Odius investiture to cut.
  5. Here's a thought: What if her father finally snapped and tried to hit her, and she told him what she thought of him - a potent secret, deeply personal. She used the soulcaster to change his torso into blood - or did it herself, to quickly to see Shadesmar, or possibly with her eyes closed or something. She seemed to be repressing the memories, but the blood thing would be a nice parallel.
  6. Brandon has mentioned that when you start playing around with Shardic magic, you often arrive with sentience. The Old Magic appears to be Cultivation doing just that - playing around with Shardic magic and basically doing whatever she storming wants to with it. Perhaps sentient non-human life on Roshar resulted from Cultivations experiments - maybe a horse breeder wished for the supreme horse, and got a little more than he bargained for.
  7. I've always thought that my Mistborn set would make a good anvil if I ever needed to do some blacksmithing. Once the full Stormlight Archive is out, I'll probably build a wheeled bookcase for them that can serve as a battering ram in times of need - as long as the case doesn't break before the door. Elantris alone makes a fine meat tenderizer, but I have TES, I can press sandwiches between them. I even use Legion as a nightstick, though I prefer my Shardhammer with a TWoT set as a head.
  8. I assume that if an Allomantic aluminum savant could cure himself of impurities, so could an Allomantic chromium user, but for others? In which case, highly trained Chrome users could fulfil a medical role - some interaction with Feruchemy might even let them sustain the burst
  9. Consider the hints that gateways into the spiritual realm can be defined in terms of frequency and amplitude from Elantris
  10. You could do ridiculous things to generate energy by pumping matter through a time bubble to a turbine generator inside. You could stand under a waterfall with a huge water volume and flow rate, then funnel it into a time bubble where it would turn a turbine. Assuming the turbine is going to move at the nearly the same speed as the water entering the bubble at it's maximum speed, regardless of volume, then there would be a stream of water with a tenth the volume but the same speed hitting the generator for ten times as long per arbitrary unit of volume. Though the energy imparted would be the same overall, the efficiency would be much higher due to the turbine blades needing to be much shorter.
  11. In that case, wouldn't a spray with low-calibre high fire-speed automatic guns work better? The other option would be to design them with bad aerodynamics that would make them corkscrew in every direction and change speed unpredictably
  12. On the emotional effects, it's possible that the waves simply do not interfere with eachother, and pass on effects in a format that can accumulate easily - or perhaps the waves are just a symptom of strong Investiture, a kind of byproduct of leaks between the Spiritual and Physical realms. In that case, the filters would only confuse Seekers rather than act on the allomancy itself. Also, by the amount of information you can gather from the bronze beats, I think that they're more like a spectrograph, where different forms of information can be inferred from different scales - push or pull, external or internal, flared or not, how much left, etc.
  13. What happens if you store Identity during a gold-burn? I have no idea how Identity works, but if Gold lets you become alternate/past versions of yourself - how you would be if you made different choices - how would filling Identity and tapping it later affect that? Would your personality change to the person you might be as you tapped? Could you draw on knowledge you might have had? Could that even throw off Investitures targeting your Identity? What would happen if your Identity were spiked as you tapped?
  14. Cannot access full site from my Google Nexus 5, cannot open the quick navigation mobile menu
  15. Or lose all hearing in one ear?
  16. Also, zinc, pewter might be OK... But Bendalloy? Cadmium? Chrome? Any amount of that stuff can be harmful if digested.
  17. Nah, he's a Thug that gets sick at the taste of metal. I wonder if an extremely good Seeker could read Innate Investure, or whether someone's a Misting before they ever burn metal?
  18. Every time you think, "Kill it with fire/explosions," remember that those stop being hazekiller rounds and start being hazekiller cannons/BFGs.
  19. Could Feruchemical brass users melt bullets in midair, or tap heat fast enough to freeze them?
  20. New idea: Kill multiple cows with iron to build up a hemalurgic charge, then make bullets with it. Much more difficult to pull and push on it, right?
  21. Of course, this requires that you hit the heart exactly, with no error, which, in the case of any bloodmaker without an obscene amount of stored health, would probably enough to kill them anyway.
  22. So then are there a different system of bindpoints for Cognitive aspects, like emotion? If you were to hold yourself in such a way that your center of mass was not actually part of your body, could you levitate something in that point?
  23. There are only so many ideas, the challenge is to make old ideas interesting. This is entirely off topic, but read Blood, Glass, Apples by Neil Gaiman for one of the best examples of this I have ever seen.
  24. He didn't on Sel, anyway - we really don't know his activities very well. Given that the scene took place in the desolated wasteland of a dead god's last words to the world, a heavy degree of symbolism and metaphor is apparent.
  25. It's a possibility, especially in light of Darkness (ha ha) and his activities. It's also possible that they are corellated, being both caused by a third variable, that the causation runs the other direction, or that they are codependent. We really just don't know enough yet to be sure. Given the number of possible magic systems present in Roshar (Surgebinding, Voidbinding, Artifabriacs, the Old Magic, and all the subsystems within them) we should see some theories as to how they interact after another couple books.
