As, in fact, the old grumpy crippled warlord who's name I cannot remember did. Also, how do we know he didn't ask permission for things that weren't clearly bad/good cases? A simple psychic questionnaire asking "Would you like your genitals back? Yes/No/Other" would do as well. It's also possible that time was an issue - if the Intent of Harmony is equilibrium and action through proxies, then his old personality would only have so long to direct the power before Harmony- not Sazed - is weilding it.
  2. Maybe one that employs the same strategies Wax uses against Miles: It immobilizes by binding the limb. Alternately, it could simply be barbed in such a way that trying to heal it would cause more damage, so a bloodmaker would just leak his health into the wound trying to heal it, or be release poison on impact that would remain embedded in the wound and disable them quickly. Something that would knock them out very strongly and very quickly would stop them from healing, because they would be asleep would work too.
  3. Ways that he could have predicted the shot ahead of time, as far as I can tell: -zinc feruchemy -steel feruchemy, depending on how that works with instinctive actions -tin savant (unlikely) -electrum misting -iron/steel misting, by seeing the gun movement with Ironsight and adjusting accordingly -allomantic brass or zinc, by Pushing or Pulling Wax into shooting at that precise moment -chromium ferring (guessed what Wax would do, and tapped Luck to let him shove Lessie in exactly the right way) -the wakefulness feruchemy, again depending on how that interacts with reaction times -double tin Twinborn, compounding all his senses to an effect similar to a tin savant, but more so -slider -considering that his buisness was killing people in creative ways and hanging them up, something Hemalurgical -he had a pulser associate who put Wax in a time bubble for a moment, allowing Tan to see him moving easily -Allomantic iron, and Pulling the bullet to his center of gravity, where he also dragged Lessie's head -blind insanity/faith with a bit of luck and complete lack of fear -As has already been mentioned in this thread, simply reading Wax and Lessie's signals -a hundred different possibilities ranging from farfetched and magical to simple and mundane
  4. your phrasing implies insignificance. Your words imply significance. Explain yourself.
  5. Except the whole "must pierce in very specific places to do anything" aspect of hemalurgy
  6. Or that, on the brink of death, your Spiritual connection to the physical realm begins to disappear, allowing you to see the Cognitive for a moment.
  7. what about gibletish and gibberish?
  8. Organics are immune. So just shoot him with a turtleshell crossbow bolt, or get a bunch of goons to club him. Maybe Toblakai style.
  9. Gifting + Superhypnosis/migrating your mind into other bodies = many superminions
  10. Perhaps it would actually disrupt any investure you touch/get near, so that the Breaths in a rope would get "shredded", scattered into sprays of prismatic light. Or maybe it would mess with the Commands, so that the Breaths would lose their animation.
  11. Ask if there's one commonly held assumption on the forums that he knows to be wrong, and if any of our theories ever work better than the actual mechanics he has planned
  12. It counts. It was done, so it can be replicated, so it is possible on a large scale as part of a magic system.
  13. We got an answer (kind of) to this question via PrncRny: Brandon said : Everything Wit says is significant. The degree of significance varies, but everything is significant. So yes.
  14. I believe we have WoB that it doesn't, in fact, need to be trauma. Intense joy, anger, etc. Would work as well, but, in humans, terrible pain and regret is much more prevalent than rapturous joy.

  16. See, if you'd said "later tonight", I would have felt justified in staying up til five am to see them. If you'd said "tomorrow morning", I could have gone to sleep sometime reasonable, secure in the knowlege that I would find them the next day. But an "or" situation... I don't know what to do.
  17. Or was it the well, mists, and Lerasium are the body of Preservation, while the Pits, black mists, and Atium are the body of Ruin? Anyway, I just remembered that Atium, unlike the other metals, is not a gate to Preservation's power - it is a direct source of Ruin's power, his power Invested in metal
  18. I agree with a lot of this, except the "by extension, all of shin society" bit. Szeth is incredibly different from the rest of Shin society - there's no knowing where he got his abilities and Blade (a heck of a lot of theorizing though)
  19. Some of us here at 17th shard have oracular dreams of Brandon dispensing holy spoilers upon us. They're generally considered canon unless they directly contradict the books, in which case we release agents internationally to correct all printed copies and a virus to correct the ebooks. If Obama ever starts reading Elantris at a speech, you'll know one of the Keepers of the Code uncommented the infect_whitehouse lines. You don't want to know what we call the bit that inscribes the full text of TES on Antarctica using the world's supply of nuclear bombs.
  20. do remember, TLR was using Preservation's power when he burnt off three quarters of the planet, turned a society into a harshly race-oriented class structure, and enslaved his own people (those he did not turn into mindless, mentally impaired beasts)
  21. His readers and fans, however, should feel guilty when he spends an hour writing for them instead of playing with his kid, so it balances out.
  22. Always consume books three times: Once for the pleasure, once for the plot, characters, details, setting, etc., and once lightly braised and brushed with hot sauce, caramelized onions optional.
  23. ok.
  24. like constantly storing pewter while hitting the gym, so your "normal" state is a musclebound hulk? The problem with that is that it would take exactly as much effort as if you had done it the regular way, possibly more, as you wouldn't be gaining any new strength to lift things with - however, just training yourself to function normally while in a diminished state could mean you could go about your life quite a bit below baseline, and I suppose, in a real pinch, you could let yourself comeback to your original state.
