Long Game 62: Remaster of the House
Araris Valerian replied to Straw's topic in Sanderson Elimination
@_Stick_ I’d be happy to lynch you this cycle . Not sure that it would be very sporting to have a lynch before everyone has had plenty of time to do some scheming though. -
Long Game 62: Remaster of the House
Araris Valerian replied to Straw's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Hadrian paced through his manor house, annoyed at the lack of furnishings compared to Keep Elariel. Unfortunately, while the keep was certainly opulent, recently he'd been feeling rather... exposed around the other Elariel nobles. His own home wouldn't stop a Mistborn attack, but at least anyone trying to kill him would need some effort to finish the job. Until then, he'd see if there were any friends to be made among the other houses. He knew some of the Urbain nobility, and while they tended toward garish clothes and excess of wine, they were also good allies in a pinch. -

Good game everyone! Especially to Aman, who had me fooled right up until he killed me. @Amanuensis, I actually didn't protect you the night I died, but Straw saved your life :/. Something about your tone in our PM set me off, and I thought you might try a WGG on yourself, counting on my protection. I never even considered I was a candidate to receive shards, and thus a target. Thank you Fifth, Devotary, and Snipexe for GMing! Thanks for letting me hold both a painrial and a half-shard simultaneously .- 374 replies

To anyone using an action, I suggest submitting 3 actions if possible, including heiring, so that a Pain Knife has a lower chance to succeed.- 374 replies

I'm not so sure about this. If something like that happens, it will only delay his lynch by a cycle, and we have enough players left for that to not be an issue.- 374 replies

Okay, so if Aman is elim, then the elims have an Artifabrian (not necessarily Aman himself), since I got an item that I requested. That would mean that the elims aren’t using their Artifabrian for Grandbows or half-shards (which would seem more useful given the village shardbearer running around). While Aman is certainly a fan of ploys, those tend to involve very convincing explanations /roleclaims rather than what he would be doing in this case. On the other hand, given his reasons for being suspicious of HH, it seems perfectly reasonable that village!Aman would take advantage of my willingness to vote HH to try and lynch one of his prime suspects. I’ve honestly got a rather village read on Elbereth as well from our PM, but it seems like if this is a V/V duel, then Elbereth should be the one to die. Edit: I’d like to note that I only have 2 PMs right now, one with Aman and one with Elbereth.- 374 replies

I suspect people that aren't getting involved in discussion. The lack of activity around last cycle's lynch, and the V/V lynch D1 makes me think the elims are just chilling.- 374 replies

Wow, things are quiet here. I suppose it is a Sunday morning, but I would have expected at least one post in 15 hours. Anyways, I'm going to vote on Drake. It seems like our lynches aren't doing a good job of targeting elims, due to the lack of significant end of cycle participation and vote manipulation. That makes me more concerned about people who aren't placing votes. I'd say Drake, STINK, and Rath are probably my top suspects right now. As I'm writing this, a wild STINK appears!- 374 replies

@Amanuensis, okay, I'll go for HH. Maybe someone with a Shardblade can take out Xino so we don't have to lynch him. Of players that have been mentioned, my lynch priority (in decreasing order) is probably HH, Xino, Sart, Striker, Straw.- 374 replies

As far as I can tell, the vote is tied between Striker and Sart. I don't have any particular suspicion against either of them, but I agree more with the sentiments against Sart.- 374 replies

I'm of the feeling that voting based on a guess is good if there there aren't already well-defined lynch options (or if you can express why the current lynch options are bad). I mean, the lynch options have to come from somewhere. Also, I stand corrected about Elandera's Knife. Although there would be no way for the elims to know that Elandera had only one item, it would certainly give at least a chance of giving them the Knife.- 374 replies

In response to Sart, I think rather little suspicion tends to fall on players as a result of a D1 village lynch. I mean, it happens practically every game. Thus, I doubt the night kill was intended to divert discussion in that manner. A role kill makes more sense, although I will say that with the Heir mechanic, the Pain Knife will still be in circulation, so the elims either had different motivation or didn’t think about heiring. Somebody was rude and roleblocked me last night. I’m not sure if that is useful information, but I’m just throwing it out there. I’m going to vote on Hemalurgic Headshot. HH falls into the category mentioned by Aman, and the vote last cycle seems to me to be an attempt to look village without actually helping. I find that more suspicious than what Sart has done Sart, which is to come up with a convoluted theory that we disagree with. It would be nice to hear from @xinoehp512, @STINK, and @Straw as well.- 374 replies

It's a 1/27 chance, which is why I said it was suspicious. Although it seems rather convoluted to make up some numbers to justify a vote nobody cares about.- 374 replies

I find this rather suspicious actually. Not the random voting, but the fact that your 3 "random" numbers are each conveniently divisible by 3 and thus average to an integer. Also, I believe this system would be more heavily weighted towards players in the center of the list.- 374 replies

Long Game 61: A Radiant Light

Could you clarify this? I would think a slip up like this would be less likely if Venture was partnered with one of these players. I also agree with Fura about Venture being suspect. I'm just not sure if this is Venture doing things I personally disagree with, versus Venture doing elimy things. I think this is dangerous, and ties in with what I said above about you. There is a difference between sub-optimal play and suspicious play. For example, I think that basing votes on sound analysis when possible is more optimal than placing a gut vote. That doesn't mean that we should necessarily suspect the player who places a gut vote. Now I think as a community we should try to encourage optimal play (which is rather subjective, I know), without basing our in-game decisions on whether or not another person is playing according to personal definitions of optimal. Certainly a villager who is able to successfully hunt out other elims will be able to give credibility to their own village alignment. But a villager who is just sort of floundering isn't guaranteed to be an elim. I've stated before, and in this thread, why I think a Stab Vote is, if not optimal, at least more helpful than a poke vote. Nobody has presented me with an argument to the contrary to convince me (and such an argument might belong in the Game Meta thread), so I'll continue. What is optimal also changes between rulesets, and I think the fact that a single vote creates credible lynch pressure this game makes a Stab Vote a more useful tool than it would be otherwise.- 374 replies

Technically, since there is a 0 vote minimum for a lynch, my vote changed the lynch from randomly killing one of anybody to specifically killing Elandera. El’s vote didn’t actually change anything. Also, as mentioned above, my vote wasn’t a poke vote.- 374 replies

@Coda I think the general idea behind a poke vote is to generate discussion. In particular, if enough random votes land on an elim, then it forces them to respond. Also, “random” votes by elims are almost certainly not going to put other elims in danger of death, which gives further potential for analysis. Also, I would like to clarify that my vote was a Stab Vote, rather than a poke vote. Traditionally poke votes are removed after the mentioned player appears and makes a post. A Stab Vote doesn’t move until a better lynch option becomes available. In other words, given the total lack of information so far, I’d be fine lynching Elandera because she is just as likely as anyone else to be an elim.- 374 replies
