Well, she resurrects, so unless her weakness is in there, we can probably just say she resurrects somewhere else. Then if Silver ever wants to come back, Converter can as well, but she's out of the way in the event Silver doesn't want to return. I'm good with either option, so he's free to choose.

Rainmaker frowned as Gelliton worked. Certainly the epic could work faster than the snails pace she was currently moving at! After what seemed like an eternity, the epic stepped away from the prison, and recreated a foam chair to sit in. "There. I doubt even she can set fire to this prison now." The Epic's tone and obvious attitude made Rainmaker want to wipe her off the face of the earth like the insignificant speck she was. Instead of flying off the handle, she resisted. Attitude or not, Gelliton was a useful servant, as she had just shown, a unique tool that should not be wasted. "And the airflow in and out of the prison? Will she be able to breathe now?" All reports from the guards said the epic was still alive in there. Rainmaker hoped that sealing the prison with Gelliton's substance might be enough to finish her off.

Well, we already have an epic named Hypno, so you might want to choose a new name. His powers are a little hard to understand the way they are laid out currently. Something that might help is to separate out and describe his powers one by one, instead of just having a paragraph that describes some of the things he can do. Check out some of the epic profiles in the Epics of Oregon thread for reference. Right now I'm seeing: Sleep/Wakefulness manipulation - the ability to induce sleep or hyper awareness. Seems to work at will, or automatically within a range of 2 meters. Danger Sense Healing Rest - Instant sleep with ability to regenerate while sleeping. Dream Manipulation? - This is where things start getting nebulous. You might want to spell out the mechanics of this power a little more, and explain its limits. Not sure if this is one power, or several powers working in combination. This is also where he starts to sound a little OP (which isn't necessarily a problem), but adding some limits would make things more interesting in my opinion. Also not clear how controlling dreams = mind control, or why his sleep walkers are stronger than normal people. In general, I think he sounds like a cool character, though it's hard to tell when all he has at the moment is a power set.

Taylor stretched, manually relaxing all of her muscles, causing the tension brought about by her nightmares to vanish instantly. After checking the newcomers housing for any sign of Brandon, Taylor had quickly decided to such accommodations were hardly adequate for a super star like herself. Instead, she had wandered the streets until she found a nicer neighborhood, and the house in which she now resided. The owner of the house, and the comfier than average bed Taylor was sleeping in, was lying dead in the bathtub in the master bathroom. Hopefully today, Taylor would be able to find a proper way to dispose of her. Serves her right. After a thorough search of the premises and a lengthy interrogation of her victim, Taylor had discovered that the woman did not own a single one of her albums. What was the point of life if one could not listen to "All to Well" on a rainy afternoon or "Shake it Off" on a sunny day? "Open up!" Taylor altered her cute ears, enhancing their ability to pick up sound. The pounding on her front door, which was likely what had woken her up, continued, and a stern male voice repeated his request for her to open the door. Sighing, Taylor walked to the door, shifting her appearance to match that of the homeowner she had killed. After a moment of thought, she added some dampness to her brown hair, and a towel to cover her skin. "Sorry for the wait, officer," hearing the woman's pitiful voice in her own throat reminded Taylor of all the senseless pleading the night before. Thank goodness that was over with. "I was in the shower, and didn't hear you at first. Is there anything I can help you with?" A second officer stepped in to take charge. "Please step outside ma'am. We have orders to search the premises." Taylor's eyes widened with shock, which she hoped would be appropriate under the circumstances. She had been careful last night, closing all the windows, and gagging the woman until she promised not to scream. Could The Dalles Guard be on to her all ready? "Outside, but I'm not dressed..." The second officer, who was obviously in charge, scowled. No doubt the pair had some sort of deadline to stick to. Her eyes flicked back and forth between her male partner and Taylor's barely clothed body a few times before coming to a decision. "Fine then, I'll come up to the bedroom with you, but you are not to leave my sight, understand? Oliver here can search the main floor." Taylor nodded blankly, doing her best impression of shock while she planned her next move. The male officer, Oliver, split off and began searching through the kitchen cupboards, while Taylor led the female officer upstairs to her new bedroom. "Now be quick about it," the officer said. She was clearly annoyed, perhaps because she saw this search as pointless? Yes, the boredom in her voice and the way she phrased her words seemed to indicate this was not her first search of the day. Perhaps this was some other matter, completely unrelated to Taylor. "Sweats and a t-shirt will do." Taylor watched as the officer's eyes slid to the master bathroom. "I'll check in there quick while you change, but I'll be leaving the door open, so don't leave the room or try to move anything. The better you cooperate, the sooner this will all be over." Taylor nodded sullenly, turning to the dresser as the officer headed to the bathroom. Her enhanced ears could hear the sound of the other officer still searching the main floor. It sounded like he was in the living room now, which meant that Taylor didn't have much time. As the officer's hand turned the knob of the bathroom door, Taylor shifted, growing eyes in the back of her head, and two tentacles out of her back. One tentacle snaked towards the bedroom door, closing it gently so as not to make the sound, while the other buried a barbed end in the female officer's throat. Taylor shifted her appearance again, mimicking the female officer exactly, uniform and all. The officer's eyes widened as blood poured out of her, staining the formerly pristine carpet. Her hand, already growing weak, reached for her gun, but Taylor moved faster. She heard the satisfying snap of the officer's wrist as she brought her heel down hard. "None of that," she said, adopted the officer's own gruff no-nonsense tone. "A shame we didn't get to know each other better." A new barbed tentacle sprouted out of Taylor's chest, lashing out to stab the woman in the eye, putting her out of her misery. Taylor set about frisking the body, ignoring the blood staining her fake clothing, which she could always shift to make clean again. After appropriating the woman's identification, wallet, and weapons, Taylor took a deep breath and headed down stairs. Oliver met her at the bottom. "I finished the main floor," he said. "No sign of anything. You ready to scare another lonely widow? Or is their more to do upstairs." Taylor shook her head. "Nah, she's clean. I left her to finish up in the bathroom. And listen, the next time the door is answered by a woman in a towel, try not to look so pervy. The last thing we need is to have to wait for every woman on the block to pick out the perfect outfit."

And the posts I owe are finally up. I think I'd like to get Legacy and Peregrine into the action in Corvallis soon. Perhaps they could meet up with Mestiv's character at the border? Also, let me know if there are any further concerns about their powers. If not, I'll post a final version, including weaknesses, and get started on their intro posts .

The Princess sighed despondently upon discovering that the epic Kenshin apparently had no place for her to nap. She was about to turn and go, hopefully to find a more agreeable home owner, when her host mentioned refreshments. "Oh, some refreshments would be positively lovely!" The Princess felt her expression brighten as her smile returned. If Kenshin's treats were good enough, perhaps she could even forgive her for not offering up her bed. Taking Kenshin's offer as an invitation to enter farther into the home, The Princess swept passed the other epic, taking in her surroundings. The floor where she stepped began to gleam as if freshly polished. "I adore your decore," The Princess said, aiming to be polite as she tapped a pair of ornamental weapons mounted on the wall. At her touch, the sturdy leather grips became more ornate, with intricate embroidery. The blades themselves remained unchanged, though they did begin to sparkle slightly. "And as for tea, I don't suppose you have any Pumpkin Spice Loose Leaf? It's my favourite!" As she sang the last sentence, her two birds flitted into the kitchen, no doubt to study their new host's tea collection. Thunder rumbled in the distance for what seemed like the hundredth time that day. Who did this insignificant cretin of an epic think he was, to challenge her this way, in the seat of her power? Rainmaker resolved to ensure whoever was causing her so much trouble would meet a particularly unpleasant end. "Have the ashes secured yourself. I want no scrap of him left behind." Rainmaker had unconsciously floated backwards a ways as Buttercup related what had happened. "When you are certain they are secure, I want you working to track whoever this is down. Don't bother me with any reports until you have some real results." Not waiting for a reply, Rainmaker took off into the sky, hoping that Buttercup would get to work and do her job. Her mobile buzzed on the flight back into the city. Groaning inwardly, Rainmaker stopped in midair to check her messages. The most recent one was from Hypno, while there were a couple older ones that she had missed from the guards at the energy epic's prison. Stay safe for now, and enjoy your new pets. I'll be in touch with my orders. Though she was upset with Hypno for failing to bring Insight to heel, his command had seemed to effect the elusive epic. If she could find a way to draw Insight into the open again, Hypno would be her best chance of capturing him and locating Euphoria. Insight likely knew that as well as she did, which meant Hypno could be his next target. Scrolling through her messages, Rainmaker sent off a short text to Buttercup, instructing her to station some of her best epics at Hypno's house, to ensure he was properly protected. Then, she moved on to the messages she had missed, only then remembering she had arranged to have the energy epic's prison properly insulated that day. Setting course for the Sports Field, Rainmaker sped through the sky, eager to get this one last duty over with so she could get on with enjoying her afternoon. She arrived a few minutes later, finding the epic Gelliton sitting in a chair fashioned out of one of the strange substances she could create at will. "Let's get this over with quickly, shall we?" Rainmaker waived a hand, cancelling the winds directly in front of Gelliton. "That should do it. Proceed straight forwards, and be cautious. We still don't know the extent of this one's powers." Rainmaker had hoped to have recieved a report from the guards by now that the epic was dead of hypothermia, but apparently her powers were strong enough to resist the constant cold. Let's see if she can stave off suffocation. "Well, get on it. I haven't got all day."

I'll try to get to it, and a Rainmaker post sometime this weekend. After over a month of good semester, I hit a wall this week, and had some motivation problems. Apologies for the wait. I'd ship Murderlington/Epic!Relina. I was hoping to be caught up to you after my next Rainmaker post, or at least close enough that you could go ahead. Stay tuned, and sorry for the wait!

On the point about Night's Sorrow, I don't think we need to worry much about the potential canonicity of this RP until we have more information. Oregon's destruction is still a decent ways a way, and Brandon's comment about Night Sorrow's involvement was pretty vague. I'd say, let's just continue on as we have been, and then make a decision about Night's Sorrow once we know even a little bit about her and what happens. The chances of us getting through more than a single day (or MAYBE two) before Calamity comes out are pretty slim anyways.

I think Night Sorrow was already the character I am most excited about learning more about, so I hope Calamity can give us some answers. On the subject of Legacy, I was thinking more about her weakness, which will be location based, and about her using it, or her fear of it, to shock her back into reality, and remind herself of who she is. Anyways, since we determined an epic intentionally exposing themselves to their own weakness was a little drastic, I was wondering about having her carry an item with her that reminds her of her weakness. Basically she'd carry an object on her, and then when she starts forgetting who she is, she can look at it, and the reminder of her weakness helps to remind her of her fear, and remembering what she is afraid of helps her to remember her own identity. Thoughts?

I think this just means that Brandon needs to do another 17th Shard Q&A so we can upvote him like crazy again .

Thanks! Hopefully this time the "next semester" thing will be true. I'll be involved in a clinical study program, with only one class a week, and the rest of my time spent working, so the reading and assignment requirements should be less onerous, and allow for more writing time (hopefully).

When talking about leadership, the other thing you have to remember about Rainmaker is how much she delegates responsibility. Unlike Steelheart, who seemed to like managing everything himself, Rainmaker likes to enjoy the benefits of power without most of the responsibilities. Much of the decisions you've seen her make in the RP thus far are decisions that would have normally been made by Euphoria, with some consultation with Rainmaker. So, losing Euphoria was more than just a loss of her power, it is also creating chaos because the normal administration structure of Corvallis was disrupted. Basically, Rainmaker would be as good a ruler as the direct underlings she has. Her powers are useful for maintaining control of a city and fighting off or getting rid of rogue epics, and when she makes decisions she's fairly cautious and conservative. She doesn't generally murder without at least some provocation (key word: generally), and provides people with the services and resources they need. So, with good fellow rulers subordinate to her who she can delegate responsibility to, Rainmaker would make a decent large scale ruler, regardless of whether or not she has a mind control epic. With bad subordinates, she probably wouldn't do a very good job, since she doesn't really like doing things herself.

This is one is probably more of a suggestion than a true correction, but on page 284, ch 17, of the hardcover, Marasi refers to MeLaan, saying: [emphasis mine]. At this point in the story, after Marasi has interacted one on one with MeLaan a number of times, referring to her this way seems impersonal, and felt off to me as a reader. I get that this may have been a decision made for some variety, but thought it was also possible this could have been left over from an older draft where Marasi does not know MeLaan as well at this point in the story.

I'm ENTP... which might mean I'm the only full E in the group? I guess I'll blame my innate need for frequent social interaction and external approval for not posting as much, haha. Where are you guys getting the list of fictional characters who match your type from? *Shuffles off to check Wikipedia. EDIT: Apparently I share a type with Obama, Mao Tse-Tung, and Neil Patrick Harris. No list of fictional characters though.

Just to check in, and let you all know I haven't completely fallen of the wagon, I'm still chipping away at Chapter One of "Preparing the Emperor's Tea". The end of summer and the current semester hit me harder than expected, so my pace has slowed significantly. As things stand, I'm still hoping to get a chapter or two up before Christmas, but no promises. My load should be lighter next semester, so I hope to post more regularly next semester. Anyways, best of luck to everyone with their work, and thanks for being patient with my lack of consistency.

That's exactly what I meant. She'd just have less required of her, and could likely do whatever she needs to do faster, in relative comfort. This isn't canon, but now I'm picturing Cornucopia being carried on a litter by vanillas, picking up stuff to plant with one of those grabber things that people who have difficult bending over use, and then dropping it into holes that other vanillas have dug and will cover up. Even better, to work in the vine whip idea, she uses beansprouts (long, flexible, fast growing), which she carries with her in her litter, to both pick up and plant objects, while also using them to whip her vanillas if the get complacent. EDIT: Also, in case anyone was wondering, I'm feeling mostly okay this morning. Hopefully I don't crash!

Keep in mind, she would also have help from field workers to do a lot of the grunt labour. She would just need to do whatever she needs to do to activate her powers, so she could move more quickly than she could if she was doing everything herself. Aaand, I'm up late because I forgot that tea had caffeine and drank four cups after nine o clock. Wish me luck getting to sleep!

We do have some semi-human (emphasis on semi) politicians. They just haven't been elected in a while. I'll keep you posted though about the upcoming federal election on the 19th, since things could get better after that. We definitely have the cold weather down though! The diary idea has merit, I'll keep workshopping it.

I was thinking that Legacy's weakness would be location based, since I don't have an epic with that sort of weakness yet, so Peregrine could potentially dump her there and avoid reprisal until she's come to her senses. However, I'm also open to scrapping the idea. I just thought it would be an interesting way to self regulate. If her powers make her too unstable without this control, I might just lessen the intensity of her inherited memories and attributes, and make it easier for her to maintain control, aside from right after resurrection, and after intense use of a certain skill, attribute, or memory.

The current Canadian Government is basically promising to enact blatant anti-Islamic policies if re-elected, and their polling numbers have been steadily improving, so Canadians aren't much better . Here's hoping we get a change in power after the election in two weeks!

Thanks for the feedback! I wasn't sure what all the mental effects of intentionally triggering one's weakness would be. What if using her weakness was reserved for times when she completely loses her sense of self and forgets who she is, in order to shock her back to reality and to herself? Perhaps she shared her weakness with Peregrine so that he would use it in extreme circumstances. The use of the weakness would dampen her powers and bring her back to herself, as well as causing her to panic (which would also remind her of who she is), and then once the weakness was removed, she could proceed in better control of herself? Let me know what you think. Also, I found this video helpful in understanding the refugee crisis, as someone who gets most of their news from social media. It does a good job of breaking things down and explaining the context in a way that is easy to understand. Apparently the EU, Australia, the US and Canada could all be doing a better job.
