Two things to consider with this plan of action (aside from what has already been said), is that (A) the restraints are made of tungsten, which has a melting point approx 2000 degrees © higher than the melting point of steel, and ( the air temperature in there has got to be close to -40 C (Sorry I'm using Celsius, you can blame it on the fact that I'm Canadian). Converter would already be battling hypothermia, taking in heat just to keep herself warm (she could find heat, of course, since Rainmaker can't lower temperatures to absolute 0, there just wouldn't be much of it). If Converter can find away to escape, I'm fine with it, as long as we are working with an accurate set of facts. I just looked back, and noticed that I didn't actually specify what metal the restraints were made of (or at least I couldn't find a mention if there was one), but in my head the chains were tungsten.

Skinsaver tried his best to slow his breathing as his private car sped through the streets back to the clinic. Even after all the time he had spent working for her, sometimes Rainmaker's complete and utter disregard for others still caught him off guard. How DARE she threaten me. Skinsaver heard his breath come out in a hiss, and resumed his exercises in an attempt regain the calm composure expected of a physician. It was not that he did not deserve to be lived-after all, Rainmaker had the audacity not only to force him into a position he had no talent or desire for, but also to make him drive across the city to deliver a message that could have been sent by text, and to threaten him with that damned letter just because she could. To be fair, Skinsaver had to admit that he likely would have resisted more, or ignored the request had Rainmaker not forced him to come in person. Even still, surely even the Queen of Corvallis could see the unfairness of tearing him away from his patients for the purpose of informing him that he would have less time to spend with them. I saved her from her prison. I made her what she is. How dare she do this to me! If I come home like this I'll agitate the patients. Skinsaver reached for his tablet, and began scrolling through his patient files, finding calm in his meticulous notations on the condition of each of his charges. In minutes he felt his breathing return to normal as he returned to his routine. Any sense of normalcy was shattered by the sound of music in the distance. What in Calamity? Skinsaver felt the blood drain from his already pale face as he realized who must be blocking his path. Where did she find a sparking tuba and someone to play it? "I'm sorry Sir, the road is blocked by some sort of parade. We might need to wait a while." "Back up and go around. I can't deal with that nonsense today of all days." "But sir, there are cars behind us..." Traffic wasn't the same as it had been before Calamity, but Rainmaker's reign and Cornucopia's unique abilities had provided the city with enough luxuries to make Corvallis seem like a real city again. Skinsaver slammed down on the button that lowered his window and looked out. Seeing only a few other vehicles, he turned back to his driver. "Ram them, push them out of the way, drive on the sidewalk, I don't care! Just get me away from that racket!" Princess Genevieve Ornatia Oprah Delicious giggled with glee as her fledgling marching band played an instrumental verse. She rode gracefully down the street on a gorgeous white horse. Sebastien kept pace with her on a similar steed, holding her umbrella aloft to keep the rain off. The Princess wasn't sure where the horses had come from, but she had wasted no time beautifying them as soon as they approached in response to her song. The instrumental verse began to wind down, and the Princess cleared her throat, preparing to rejoin the song. "So we clean, clean, clean the streets, and we mop up all the grime. Many hands can make a lot of work, take not a lot of time. Sooo, bend your backs and work your tools, We'll make this city shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiine....." The Princess cut off suddenly as her small parade came to a halt. Her workers in front of her began to whisper among themselves, pointing at the mess that was blocking their path. A different crew, likely under Queen Buttercup's command, was already gathering the bodies into piles. Many of them had awful wounds, and some of them barely even seemed human even more. Normally, a gruesome sight like this would be of no consequence, but without Euphoria's power, seeing the dead had a profound effect on the cleaning crew. "All right now everyone, there's no need to look so glum! If we all work together, we can clean this mess up in no time. Now, listen up." The Princess snapped her fingers, giving Sebastien a silent signal to dismount and offer her a hand down. Once she was safely back within the shade of her umbrella, she made her way to the front of the crowd to survey the scene more closely. Even Buttercup's workers had paused for the moment, waiting to see what their Princess would do. Despite the rain, the bodies likely already had an unpleasant smell to them. As the Princess approached, she could see the workers relax slightly as her aura of beautification replaced the foul smell with the scent of honey and roses. One by one, the Princess touched a delicate finger to each of the piles. With each touch, the heaps of bodies shifted and transformed. Wounds knit back together, blood stains vanished, and clothing knit itself into an approximation of each person's best funeral attire. "All right then, I've done my part, now it's your turn!" At her side, Sebastien brought out a pitch pipe, helping the background singers to find their note so they could oooh and aaah in tune with her lead vocals. The crowd of people and animals around her seemed to hold their breath as one, waiting for the soothing effects of their princess's song. "Wheeeeeen the world gives you troubles, You can't just stop and cry. You can help to make things better, All you need to do is try! So now, dig you diggers dig, That park nearby will do. You need to dig a grave that's big enough for fifty-two! And then all the rest can come, there are bodies here to haul. We can make this street all right again if you just give your all! "Hit it boys." Behind her, the band whirred into motion. As they entered, the tempo of the song increased, shifting into a more upbeat melody. A pack of rodents and dogs split off from the main group heading to the park. Birds began to flit from pile to pile, searching the ground and pockets for valuables. "Who puts the 'fun' funera-al?" "You, Prin-cess!" "The speech is done, and I'd recommend delivering it soon so the field workers will hear it before reaching the fields. I've already notified Broadcast to prepare the station for a radio announcement." Rainmaker reached across the desk and began thumbing through the speech Buttercup had written for her. Putting Skinsaver in his place had restored some of the confidence she had lost fighting foes she could not pin down. "Excellent. You've outdone yourself, Blossom. Now let's get this over with so we can figure out who our enemies really are and destroy them." A gesture was all it took to send a servant scurrying over to the window. "We can discuss the details on the way, and rendevouz with Buttercup when we are done."

Hey all, I'm back! Sorry for being a day (or two) late. Some campers stayed over night Sunday because they had busses leaving early the next morning, and I had to stay on site to supervise. I didn't leave camp till noon yesterday, and after that I really didn't feel like doing much. That said, the camp I spent my summer planning is officially done ! Now I just need to compile data from evaluations and write a final report before school starts in two weeks . Anyways, I searched the last 30 pages that I missed over the last week in Question 14 for my username, and the two main things I found people wanting from me was a Rainmaker post and comment on Echo. I'll do the Echo critique now, and try to get the post up today or tomorrow (followed by my Taylor and Brandon posts with back flashes). Re: ECHO: On the whole, I like Echo's powerset, and feel like (he? she? I can't remember and don't want to rewade through all the pages of Question 14 to find out) would be a good fit in Corvallis. I am a little worried though about having two epics in the same city with such a similar weakness. Any chance you have a back-up? Once that's ironed out I'm happy to let Echo join Corvallis . Anyways, now to conquer the RP threads. My apologies if I bounce off them without getting around to RPing. I've still been burning out pretty easily since camp ended. EDIT: Blaze, do we actually want to show the speech in RP, or should we just skip over it? Let me know what you think. Also, let me know if you want to write it, or if I should. I forget what we decided (sorry its been so long).
-
After further consideration, I don't think I'll have time to post before I'm off the camp. I'll still try to, but if I don't get one in, feel free to move on to the new day in the Dalles, and I'll just establish what happened before after the fact.

I'll leave the Glamour dialogue vague maybe? Just to cut down on the amount of time spent planning. Where should I settle Taylor for the night? Or rather, where would Glamour suggest she stay? Thoughts on Brandon's arrest? I can write that too, if I know what to do.

What Taylor needs: a place to stay. She'd also like to learn more about the city, and potentially meet up with Glamour the next day to copy down his map. If Glamour agrees, perhaps we could start the next day with a kind of "Glamour giving T-Swift a tour" type thing. Or, if we want to split them up that could work too. So yeah, if Glamour just tells Taylor a place she can stay for the night, that will wrap up that plot line. As for Brandon, I'm not sure. The fainting thing would be an easy way out, but it isn't feeling super in character. I mean, Brandon's a total coward, but he's also been through a lot of stuff, and isn't particularly squeamish. Maybe the Dalles Guard could happen upon them? I'm assuming Antonio or Prankster would just flee, since he seems to avoid authority figures, and Brandon could be arrested again. I could establish the details of the arrest in flashback.

You forgot Taylor and Brandon! I'd love suggestions for things for them to do tomorrow. Yeah, I'd like to get the wrapped up too, so I'm open suggestions. Prankster also just approached Brandon. I'm not sure how I want to handle getting that wrapped up in time for the new day to start (since the interaction just began). Fatebreaker, do you have any suggestions? Everyone else feel free to pipe in! I'll be away running my camp from Tomorrow until Sunday, so if we could either wrap things up today, or hold off until next week in the Dalles, that would be great (sorry to hold you guys up)!

*Taylor Swift sees this and decides to morph into dog version of self. I left it intentionally vague for now. I'll likely establish this in my next post (when I get around to rewriting my Skinsaver and Princess GOOD posts). Side note: Fun friendship name: GOODtimes . Or shinyGOODtimes. This sounds good to me! Taylor Swift might be able to do this for a couple of seconds, if the pinecone was similar to her in size... Anyways, the Camp I've been planning all summer is this week, so don't expect to see me around that much. After that though, my work schedule goes back to being far more manageable, so I should be able to crank out more posts then. Two plot points I'd like to discuss/get opinions on: 1. Princess GOOD - I'm tempted to have her flee Corvallis when things start going south. I know you haven't seen much of her yet, but I'd be interested to hear if you had suggestions for where she should go. Just keep this in mind as I begin to post more with her. My next post with her will be coming across the bodies that Kenshin got rid of, and cleaning them. If I can replicate the original, it should be really fun . 2. Taylor Swift - Since she's a shapeshifter, I would love to do an infiltration/impersonation plot line. Any Dalles suggestions of who she could impersonate? Now that she's met Glamour, she'll be able to impersonate him at least, and could use this to get access to others. I'm curious how long she can resist before revealing herself as Taylor Swift, since she loves being known. PS: I just went to the Taylor Swift concert last week, and it was AMAZING. So much fun! Also, welcome back Winter, and welcome here Quiver! Glad to see that you are getting in to RPing! EDIT: Also, Red is the creepiest!

A friend of mine who I recently got to read Mistborn reccomended Weeks to me, so I've added him to my list (Below When Marnie was There, Unbearable Lightness, and The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay. I tried to find a good book to start on though and was disappointed to see he only has a trilogy and a series out. Content doesn't really concern me as long as it is used to explore characters (which is why I love the Song of Ice and Fire Books, but have some issues with the nudity and violence in the Game of Thrones show). Was the Night Angel trilogy easy to get in to? I've gotten a little sick of the typical bad-chull loner male protagonists, and what I've read about Night Angel makes me worry the books might fall into that category.

Who is your LEAST favorite character in the Cosmere?
Comatose replied to Patar's topic in Cosmere Discussion
For my least favourite viewpoint characters, I'd have to say: 1) Kaladin, and 2) Vivenna. Vivenna I tolerate more because she was supposed to be unlikable (especially compared to Siri who I adore). I'm not sure what it is about Kaladin. Part of it is that a detect a similar amount of self-righteousness in him as in Vivenna, but it seems like the book intends for Kaladin to be in the right. I liked him a little more on my second read through, and in WoR when he was no longer the focus, but mostly he just does nothing for me, and I like all of the other characters in SA (especially Adolin, Shallan, and Jasnah) way more. I'll also admit that part of what I didn't like was Kaladin's plot line, since I found the narrative of the depressed slave rising up and becoming a leader in the face of adversity to be a tad over done, but I have to say I didn't like the character much either, and I will be sooo disappointed if he and Shallan end up together . Oooo, and Wax and Marasi! Can't say I really enjoyed either of them, so I'm excited that it looks like Steris (who I love) will play a larger role in future books. As for Wax and Marasi, I was mainly just bored with both of them. They didn't surprise me. I have to say, it feels kind of wierd to talk like this about books I absolutely adore, so I will add the caveat that these are my least favourite characters, and aside from Kaladin I do enjoy aspects of all of them, and understand how they might be favourites for other people. -
Aaand, I just lost a Skinsaver and most of a Princess GOOD post. I'll see about putting a new one together tomorrow, but now I really ned to get to work!

Okay, I'm agreeing with most of what's being said here, but I'll throw in my input. 1) Corvallis News - I'm thinking a combination of radio broadcast, posters, and mobile bulletins (think mass texts) with important announcements. This would all be under Blossom's purview. 2) Schools and Children - For the most part, Rainmaker keeps families together as a default, though she will split them up without much provocation (So and So needs 4 servants, and you have a family of 5? Too bad!). Children mostly run errands and do children-work, while also shadowing their parents/supervising adults so that they can take over their positions when they are old enough. There is no school system in place for Vanilla children. If anything, what Corvallis does is closer to some sort of medieval model, where kids are doomed to simply learn the 'trade' of their parents, and then practice it. The one exception is the fields - children generally have city work, and are not tasked to work in the fields until they reach their late teens. After all, Rainmaker can't risk all those precious luxury items in the hands of clumsy four-year olds. I think that answers that. 3) Housing - Vanillas would share, but for now I'm putting my foot down and saying that epics only get one house each. You will notice that Rainmaker has two, but she's an exception. Rainmaker has big plans for the city, so she'd want to leave houses vacant and ready to be taken by new epics. She also wouldn't want to waste vanillas cleaning empty houses (unless it is one of her own). Limiting Epics to one house is also a demonstration of her control over the population. The empty houses can be used for all kinds of things, including rental spaces for who knows what, practice arena's for Buttercup's troops to train in, or as indoor housing for Cornucopia's plants. Some of them would also likely contain safe houses or hidden supplies for the Queens to use in emergencies. I think that addresses everything. Let me know if anything was missed!

Generation 3, Turn 1 Mikhail Elariel OOC: For clarity, I realize that this generation is set 100 years after Generation 2. The fact that this Mikhail Elariel is also married to a Bakuda Farrsolin and has a brother in the ministry is another one of those "staggering coincidences" Wyrm spoke of in the game rules . Public Action: Not totally happy with this RP, but it'll have to do. Let's just say I'm rusty after a full generation of missing out. That said, I'm getting into Mikhail's character, so hopefully that mean's we'll see more from him. EDIT: I also had a question about wealth. Does the amount of wealth produced by our properties also go up with building costs because of inflation, or does it remain the same?

I have some plans for the future, yes. We've talked about Converter potentially holing up in the power plant with her allies once she escapes, and about Insight potentially being the one to free her. Silver, let me know when you feel ready to join back in, and when you want Converter to be rescued. As for where we are going in the long run, like I said I have plans. Ultimately we will be heading towards the complete destruction of Corvallis, but there will be some twists along the way. For now, Rainmaker is going to continue to try to control the city, and I'm assuming her enemies (including Iconoclast, Converter, Phoenix, Gunsmoke, and Insight) are going to continue working against her. Insight has further plans for Corvallis, Euphoria is basically just trying to survive, Skinsaver is doing the doctor thing while balancing his new position, and Princess GOOD is... well she's just being Princess GOOD I guess. I won't speak for the other characters, but people all seem to have their own plots and directions in mind. 18th Shard, do you feel like there is some sort of lack of direction or something, or did you have other concerns? Hey Silver! Welcome back! Don't worry, you didn't miss too much. Since you had an extended absence, we decided it would be best to proceed with the plan to trap Converter so that we could move the plot forward, and then let her be released when you got back. Basically, Rainmaker and a team of epics managed to chain her heat resistant restraints, box her in with metal sheets (which she is unable to reach because of her chains), and then Rainmaker covered the whole thing with a bunch of ice, melted a small hole to observe Converter through, and then put winds pushing outwards all around to keep people away. Luckily, Insight can walk through all of those things, so freeing Converter won't be too difficult to him. That wrapped up the Converter bit. The rest of the night followed Rainmaker as she investigated Euphoria's disappearance with Hypno and Buttercup's help, and then I shared more of Euphoria's flashbacks. Day 2 so far has introduced most of the characters we haven't gotten to so far, and Iconoclast has renewed his attacks. You should also check out the Oregon Map in the Easter Eggs section. It's super cool. So, I've decided to prioritize writing and reading posts over keeping up with these threads (I do try to skim though). Please forgive me if I miss things, and feel free to PM me or repeat questions if I miss them.

Rainmaker floated into her office through a window that had been redesigned specifically for the purpose. A servant pulled it closed behind her and moved to pour some tea. Rainmaker had spent the night at her central Corvallis residence, worried that her sleep might be disturbed by yet another epic attack. Thankfully, her rest had been undisturbed. Her servants had even seen fit to let her sleep in, a gesture she grudgingly appreciated, even if it meant she was one of the last to hear about the attacks. "Tell Buttercup I'll expect a report from her once the situation is in hand, and that she is to do whatever it takes to locate whoever is turning our servants into monsters." Rainmaker shivered, thinking of the feral humans from the night before. She and Buttercup had managed to kill them easy enough, but they couldn't be everywhere. The humans needed extra supervision as is without Euphoria's power to keep them in check, and Rainmaker's forces were already stretched thin. "And tell Jumpdrive to keep an eye on things." Jumpdrive was likely already doing just that, but it paid to remind people who was in charge sometimes. Speak of the Devil. Rainmaker noticed a text on her mobile from Jumpdrive, containing pictures of Insight, and some notes on similar powersets. That one certainly knows how to make himself useful. None of the information got her any closer to finding and destroying their elusive foe, but Jumpdrive certainly knew how to ensure everyone knew he was on the job. "Now," Rainmaker sat down had her ornate desk and began flipping through some papers. Normally she left the administration of the city to others, but with Euphoria gone and the city in crisis, she had been forced to take a more active hand in things. "Is Skinsaver here yet?" The attendant nodded. "He's been waiting a half hour, majesty." Rainmaker nodded thoughtfully, forcing herself to overlook the likely unintentional insinuation that she had arrived late. "Send him in at once." She continued to peruse the various papers on her desk until Skinsaver shuffled into the room a moment later. As always, he wore scrubs and a lab coat, proclaiming his post to all who could see him. "You requested my presence, Majesty?" Rainmaker could tell from his tone that the fool was annoyed at being called away from his work. Thankfully, Skinsaver understood who had the power in their relationship, and knew better than to test things. "Yes. I trust the patients from last night are recovering?" Skinsaver seemed to relax slightly, happy to discuss his work. "The vital ones are, mighty one. The others... Well, the others will prove very useful to me in the future, I think." Rainmaker smiled. "Excellent, I'm glad to hear of your success." Skinsaver hesitated, seeming uncertain of whether he should stay or go. Rainmaker could practically hear the thoughts running through his head. Is that all? Why call me in if a simple text would suffice? Does she think I have endless amounts of time to be running around? "Ah yes," Rainmaker continued after letting Skinsaver stew for a bit. "There was one other thing." Skinsaver stiffened, no doubt sensing her trap. "I'd like you take over some of Euphoria's duties, until we can return her safely." To his credit, Skinsaver kept his composure, though years of working with him had taught Rainmaker to see the stress beneath the surface. "With all due respect, mother of storms, I think that would be a colossal mistake, and a misuse of my talents." "With all due respect, of course." Rainmaker smiled, forcing Skinsaver to meet her gaze. "With all due respect, Doctor, I'm not giving you a choice. I have a city to save. I don't have time to be answering texts and coordinating personnel every moment of every day. Euphoria's underlings can shoulder most of work, but I still need someone I trust to oversee things. You can operate out of your little clinic if you must, but in between patients you will be helping me to stop this city from falling into chaos. Do I make myself clear?" Some of the other queens, especially Blossom, might feel insulted that Rainmaker had passed them over in favour of Skinsaver, but she needed someone she could push aside when Euphoria returned, and Skinsaver fit the bill perfectly. Skinsaver, his cold eyes filled with rage, seemed like he was preparing to say something he might regret. "Oh, and one more thing," Rainmaker took out a sealed envelope with Skinsaver's name on it out of her desk drawer. "This arrived in the mail for you today. Would you like to open it?" Skinsaver's eyes widened slightly at the sight of the letter. Shaking his head, he bowed respectfully and then started to leave the room. "I'll just keep it for you then. Thank-you so much for your cooperation, Skinsaver dear. I don't know what I would do without you."

Hey all! Just thought I'd let everyone know I'm still alive, but will be swamped with work for the next couple of weeks. I'll hopefully be able to get caught up on some of the submissions, and be able to submit my next chapter sometime in mid August. Sorry for not being super active!

So, I have no time to wade through the tread, and just googled my username to find things directed at me. If you asked a question but didn't put my name in the post, let me know. First of all, sorry for being so MIA guys! It's only two weeks away from the time when the camp I'm coordinating starts, so I've been doing lots of last minute jobs. I have a Rainmaker / Skinsaver post planned, and will try to get it up ASAP. I would love to add to this! Can I have editing privileges? I'll PM you my google account. That would be fine with me! I haven't checked on the Dalles since making that post, so maybe you've already gone ahead, which is fine Anyways, what did I miss? I'll try to check in a little more regularly, but I won't be up to full speed again until August 20th. Thanks for bearing with me!

Brandon slipped quietly out of the clinic. Reader had been too busy taunting Arsenal to object when the guard he had instructed to keep watch on Brandon had left on Arsenal's orders. In all the coming and going, Brandon had managed to slip off into the bathroom until Arsenal was gone. Now to find a place to sleep. The night air was already growing cold, causing Brandon to pull his sweater closer around him. The truth was he was still terrified, even if he had managed to escape apprehension by the Dalles guards. He might not be captured, or be running the risk of Reader finding out too much about Taylor, but he was alone in a strange town with no allies and no place to rest his head for the night. Perhaps a hotel? They might still have hotels right? Travel in and out of the Dalles might be strictly controlled, but that didn't mean that it didn't exist, did it? Surely he must be able to find at least one inn or motel in the city. The question was how would he manage to pay for a room when he didn't know what people in the Dalles used for currency. He still had a wad of American money hidden away on his person, but it was worthless most places now. Aside form what he had in his bag, everything else had been left in the jeep. Focus Brandon, you can do this. A night on the streets couldn't be too bad, could it? A town as strictly controlled as Dalles couldn't have much of a crime rate. Maybe he could even find a kind stranger who was willing to help him! Trying to stop shivering (he didn't know if it was due to the cold or terror), Brandon ambled off into the night, hoping despite himself to catch a glimpse of Taylor somewhere.

Hello all, Sorry I'm not keeping up with the Question thread lately. Work is crazy right now. I'll be in Edmonton for the next few days (Wednesday - Sunday), and I'm going to be pretty busy with work, so I likely won't get much time for casual internet usage. Hopefully I can get a post up next week. See you Monday (hopefully)!

Since I missed my chance to multi-quote, I'll just do things the old fashioned way: On the topic of a cake and confetti epic desperate to please everyone and being fake-cheerful to avoid triggering their weakness: So you're talking secretly Evil Pinkie Pie? Or just regular Pinkie Pie, since we really have no way of knowing whether or not she is secretly evil. EDIT: Though, arguably, if Pinkie Pie were secretly evil, it seems like she would be unable to use her Element of Harmony, so maybe that is evidence enough. I'll admit to not having the best understanding of Equestria cosmology (not sure if anyone is), so feel free to correct me. On the topic of Matthew's weakness: It would be interesting if self-hatred or loathing could trigger his weakness (like Steelheart's). Edge's point about the weakness kicking in whenever he attacks someone is a difficult to get around. I think either you have to incorporate the "knowing him" requirement into the weakness itself, to avoid a two part weakness, OR you could say that the "Personal Hatred" weakness requires people to know who is attacking them. If he targets people form out of sight in secret, then they have no way of knowing who is attacking them, and are unable to hate him specifically. I kind of like the second option, since it puts restrictions on how he uses his powers. Despite being insanely powerful, he is forced to avoid open challenges and shows of power, and must instead attack from the shadows, and avoid letting anyone know his powers because it might lead them to discover he is behind the attacks.
