  1. I wasn't suggesting that he made it free because it was required. But since Warbreaker is tied to SA more than any other book and everyone says to read Warbreaker, having free access to Warbreaker would lessen any potential irritation from casual readers. Otherwise people would be complaining how they felt pressured to buy an entire book that had little to do with SA but at the same time, they would feel that they wouldn't fully enjoy SA if they didn't buy and read it. In addition, by having free access to Warbreaker, you maximize the number of people who would recognize Vasher and Nightblood in SA. They do a bit of googling/talk to friends and discover the Cosmere. I have actually seen this happen frequently on reddit.
  2. I wouldn't be surprised if the inclusion of Nightblood and Vasher in SA is one of the reasons why Brandon Sanderson made Warbreaker available for free on his website.
  3. I just want to say that I totally called it!!! Well some of it, at least. No preemptive slaughtering yet. Sorry, I know this doesn't contribute to the discussion at all but I'm so excited that a theory of mine was actually right!
  4. That actually is not Wax's "resonance" ability. That is just a function of the laws of physics. Force = Mass x Acceleration. Let's say that Wax pushed himself into the air with a Force of 1000 units. Let's say that his mass is 100kg, which would mean that he is accelerating at 10 meters per second squared. If Wax only pushes once and stops, then the force of the total equation is 1000 units, that is constant. Then Wax starts storing "weight" into his metal mind reducing his mass to 10kg. Since the force is constant, the acceleration would have to change to compensate and maintain a force of 1000 units, thus increasing his speed to 100 meters per second squared. So why did Kriss ask this question? It is because Scadrials are still a bit ignorant. They think they are storing weight into the metalmind, when in reality they are storing mass. Remember that weight is based on gravity, so while your mass would remain the same on earth or mars, your weight would be different. So Kriss was trying to figure out if Wax was changing his mass or the influence of gravity on his body. Since he accelerates, the reader and Kriss now have confirmation that F-iron stores mass and not gravity. Sadly I don't think we know what Wax's special ability is yet.
  5. No war is won with just warriors. Spren primarily pick their Radiants based their personality not their physical ability. Doesn't matter if you are the best fighter in the world but can't progress to the second oaths. Renarin probably has a form of epilepsy, although that might be cured now thanks to stormlight. And if you haven't picked it up, he also has Autism Spectrum Disorder, which might be linked to his epilepsy but it's hard to say one way or another.
  6. From the back of the book of Oathbringer: It sounds like in Oathbringer, people will start the preemptive slaughtering of parshmen. Kaladin will probably be in a position where he could stop it but would feel conflicted on doing what is right vs what is best for humanity. The "to the horror of their millennia-long enslavement by humans" also implies that the awakened parshmen may not fully be under the control of Odium yet. They still might have some independence left, which would further complicate the matter.
  7. I initially thought it was a spren or nightblood but I think a radio makes more sense. K&N could be interested in Scadrial's version of a radio or they could have just heard rumors of "magical talking metal objects" from people (remember that the vast majority of people don't know what a radio is) and thought it might be a spren.
  8. I think these are some of the hints of what Kelsier could have been up to during the W&W books: In Alloy of Law: So like Wax, Kelsier might be hunting down people or trying to bring down a bad organization. Another hint is Shadows of Self: This seems like Kelsier has not been in touch with Sazed recently. This might imply that Kelsier is no longer on Scadrial or had a falling out with Harmony. However, I really doubt that Kelsier turned to the "dark side" as the quote above shows that Marsh is supportive of Kelsier and considering that Marsh is always the first person to criticize Kelsier, that says a lot. Allomancer Jak and the Pits of Eltania spoilers:
  9. You might find this interesting:
  10. I agree with Mestiv. Szeth was winning to tied with Kaladin which is pretty impressive considering that Kaladin uses far less stormlight and has a weapon that can change shape in a blink of an eye. Both are a huge advantage in a fight, especially the later. Kaladin can also summon his blade instantly while Szeth can not (or rather he doesn't realize that he could).
  11. "Stretch forth thy hand!"
  12. I wonder if aluminum could prevent outside sources from controlling spiked individuals. Presumably, a Koloss/Kandra wearing an aluminum lined hat would be immune to being controlled via zinc/brass.
  13. Are the "plants and animals" in the Cognitive Realm here spren? Just basing this on the WoB that confirmed that there are spren on the CR on Scadrial. Maybe I'm blind, but I couldn't find any threads talking about these plants and animals.
  14. Ahhh, okay that makes a lot more sense now. Thanks!
  15. I'm not fully up to date with knowledge/theories on this forum but I thought that the metals on Scadrial are just normal metals. I mean yes, they were both created from scratch by Preservation and Ruin but I didn't they had any special properties that stone or dirt on Scadrial doesn't also have. If that is not the case, would this mean that Allomancers/Feruchemists/Hemalurgists could only use metals from Scadrial and any metals from other planets would be inert?
  16. Mistborn Era 1 Spoilers: That might be one reason. http://faq.brandonsanderson.com/node/253 And ironically, I wouldn't be surprised if some people gave the exact opposite answer to why they didn't like the books.
  17. I would find it hard to believe if Hoid was more invested than the mists. Although as a counterpoint to myself, the key word here is "try", we don't know if Nightblood is actually able to.
  18. If there is a realmatic explanation for why Nightblood is heavier than it should be, then I highly expect the principles behind it to be similar to why roshar shardblades are lighter than expected. They are both Shardblades afterall.
  19. Lerasium/Lerasium........am I allowed to do that?
  20. Kelsier and Shai! Two thieves, experts at manipulating people around them, and a mutual hatred for Hoid? What could be better than that? Think about it, it could be the start of a Cosmere wide thieving crew while hunting Hoid on the side. Plus feruchemical Identity and Soul Forging would make a very interesting combination.
  21. How does time work in the Cognitive realm? Does it match the rate of time in the physical world? Space is different in the Cognitive realm based on where you are, so does the same thing apply with time? Something something about the space-time continuum. If there are certain parts of the Cognitive realm (say Sliverlight) where time flows slower faster than normal that would fit Brandon's qoute of "Demoux uses the same method as most of the Seventeenth Shard. That method slows aging by a lot, but doesn't stop it completely.". Secret History spoilers:
  22. Not that I am aware of. I want to say that I read somewhere that Brandon or Peter would try to to contact CD Projekt RED and see if they were interested. They were the ones who made the Witcher video game series so they have the precedent of working on novels to books. Fantastic company as well. But honestly, I think it is a long shot, so don't get your hopes up.
  23. I don't think so. I think it is more likely that Zahel became an Ardent after he lost Nightblood. Remember, becoming an Ardent means you have to give up all physical possessions. Even if he somehow got past that, too many people would be curious about his strange blade considering he is training people who are interested in warfare and combat and would have a keen eye for strange weapons.
  24. Why are we looking for erratic or insane individuals? From my understanding hemalurgy doesn't cause you to become crazy. But Ruin can influence mentally unstable people to spike themselves like Gemmel or Zane but that is a pre-existing condition. Or if you are sane and get spiked, then Ruin can make you hear and see things making you think that you are crazy when you are not. Without Ruin, the number of erratic individuals who are spiked should drop significantly. Can every Shard even influence spiked individuals? Preservation didn't seem able to. (Edit: post below shows that Preservation can) And with the Shards that do have that ability, I doubt that they are as proficient as Ruin/Harmony. With no primary Shard on Sel, you don't even have to worry about outside influence. As for Nalthis, why would Endowment be trying to influence Tonk Fah when it seems that she was actively working against his and Denath's plans (by returning Lightsong and Blushweaver). On Roshar, Odium would be a good possibility for influencing spiked individuals but then wouldn't Cultivation be able to counter it? Edit: Actually just ignore this post. I completely forgot about Paalm.......
