Cosmere Battle Royale; AKA Who Would Win
Scriptorian replied to Gamma Fiend's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Chalklings are limited to flat surfaces. Szeth could just half-lash himself up and float over to Nalizar before burning his eyes out. -
Cosmere Battle Royale; AKA Who Would Win
Scriptorian replied to Gamma Fiend's topic in Cosmere Discussion
The really interesting thing about that scenario is that Nightbloods hypothetically wouldn't be able to make Szeth kill himself, since he's forbidden suicide by the same oaths that make him kill other people. -

Cosmere Battle Royale; AKA Who Would Win
Scriptorian replied to Gamma Fiend's topic in Cosmere Discussion
My setup does require that Marasi is close enough to counter Wayne's bubble, but that Szeth is at the border of both bubbles. The idea is that Szeth could take both Raoden and Wayne in normal time if he surprises them, but it would require pretty good timing. Marasi would still be slowed relative to everyone else, so if Raoden can blast her before Szeth can strike, then he and Wayne are back in fast-time and that leaves Szeth fighting an Elantiran drawing at 20x faster than normal. -
Crazy Parshendi and ChasmFiend Theory
Scriptorian replied to Scriptorian's topic in Stormlight Archive
As a silly side note, when I first read WoK and I saw all of Jasnah's notes on Voidbringers, I had come to the conclusion that chasmfiends were voidbringers and that all of the chulls were going to pupate into chasmfiends and eat everyone. Then I read her conclusion about the parshendi/parshmen, and i thought Oh, that works too.- 8 replies

I was reading the glyphs page on the coppermind when I came across what I'm pretty sure is a mistake. I believe whoever wrote this is referring to the fact that Vorin law mandates that slaves be paid for their labor (Albeit at half normal wages). Vorinism doesn't have an actually "ban" on slavery, so far as I know, slave conditions are just slightly better in Vorin lands. (If Vorinism didn't permit slaves, then how could Kaladin have been sold to the bridge crews in the first place?) I don't have a coppermind account (yet), and I'm not sure what I'd fix this with anyway, so does someone want to cater to my hyperactive sense of semantics and make a correction?

Crazy Parshendi and ChasmFiend Theory
Scriptorian replied to Scriptorian's topic in Stormlight Archive
Yeah, I wasn't particularly optimistic about this. Although, I do wonder if there might be some other connection between the Parshendi forms and Chasmfiends pupating... Why hasn't Words of Radiance come out yet?- 8 replies

But, there is no more Lord Santa, so how could there be Christmas?

Oops, so it seems some one had thought of it before. I'm still proud of myself for coming up with it...Hormones does makes a lot more sense than just "determination".

Perhaps, his original name was Seren, than I realized there was a river named the Seran (which the Conventical is named after), and I changed his name to match, so there's probably an in-world reason.

As I said in my post "Storm's Shadow", I have issues with fleshing out worlds before writting, so I decided to start stealing Sanderson's worlds. This is a quick scene I wrote from a story idea I got set on Scadrial during the Final Empire. And yes, I have a reason why he can be an Electrum Misting in the Final Empire, but its a secret ! (It has to do with a secret team of Ministry assassins trained to fight Mistborn/Inquisitors by using forbidden metals. The Lord Ruler organized them as a contingency against the Inquisitors in case Ruin ever seized control of them. I think this makes perfect sense, since the Lord Ruler himself didn't need the lynchpin spike, he could just blow them to bits with a steel Push. It then follows that he taught the secret to some of his followers. These followers eventually turned into his elite hit-men instead, since the Inquisitors never actually tried to betray him) Thoughts and reviews welcome! In particular, I'd like to know peoples' take on the combat applications of Electrum.

As a writer, I suffer from chronic worldbuilding, that is, I can't write until I have the world perfect in my mind. So, in order to practice writting, I decided to steal Sanderson's worlds. This is just the beginning to a story idea I have concerning a low-ranked lighteyes who, in his words, is terrible at being a lighteyes. Thoughts and reviews are welcome!

Everyone who reads this seems to find it immensely enjoyable for some reason. "'There goes the kingdom on the back of a horse.'" Another line from a more recent project, "Flame burned within him, like a searing coal inside his rib-cage. He kept it burning low, he couldn't risk attracting attention. Not yet." Any thoughts or critiques would be stupendous!

I came up with this theory after my third read of The Way of Kings and it's a little weird, but I decided to post it in case I turned out to be right. (If someone else has already thought of this, feel free to slap me) Essentially, my theory is that Parshendi turn into Chasmfiends. Originally (before the Parshendi Interlude reading) I imagined the Parshendi pupating in to baby chasmfiends, but I think the it works even better now that we know something about their forms. My reasoning is kind of flimsy, mostly just some random connections. First, Parshendi and Chasmfiend blood smells the same (moldy), second we know that at least one form involves the Parshendi become more crustacean, and third, chasmfiends in their cocoons are waiting for a highstorm, supposedly, and we know that Parshendi change forms during highstorms. These connections could simply mean that they both have similar means of changing shape, but not that they're necessarily different forms of the same creature. Or this could just be the product of bad theory crafting. Any thoughts?

Cosmere Battle Royale; AKA Who Would Win
Scriptorian replied to Gamma Fiend's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Szeth and Marasi. She puts up a bubble to counteract Wayne's, with Szeth sneaking up behind to beat Wayne and Raoden silly as soon as they're back in real time. And I'm pretty sure gold can't heal a shardblade wound, especially if its in the face or something. Of course, this team would be pretty useless against other match-ups (Marsai is only there to counter Wayne). I have a weird match-up. Lord Ruler and Nightblood. TLR just chucks Nightblood at the other team, if they're "evil" , he Riots their desire to kill each other. If not, he Riots their feelings of nausea from being near Nightblood. I find this really amusing for some reason... Although, TLR ruler isn't exactly pure, so...what would happen if you sheath-stabbed TLR? Would he be able to heal? *shrugs* -
Cosmere Battle Royale; AKA Who Would Win
Scriptorian replied to Gamma Fiend's topic in Cosmere Discussion
True, I'd forgotten about that (though we don't explicitly know that you can do that with reverse lashings). That would drain stormlight proportionately faster, however. Another problem though, is that if you're pulling on coins with a lot of force when they're already moving really fast, your shield won't last very long... Edit: I was just thinking that a Full Lashing probably can be stacked, otherwise it would be pretty bad at redirecting arrows. -
Cosmere Battle Royale; AKA Who Would Win
Scriptorian replied to Gamma Fiend's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Lord Ruler vs God King easily goes to Rashek. Unlimited healing, speed, strength, mental speed, etc plus super-Allomancy puts Awakened tapestries to shame I'm afraid. Susebron simply couldn't react fast enough if TLR decided to end him. Hmm...then TLR could spike him and steal all of those lovely Breaths... Kelseir vs Kaladin, eh, in a straight Investiture-less fight I'd give it to Kaladin, but as soon as you give metals to Kelseir, Kaladin would be dead meat, I'm afraid. I'd put stormlight and pewter about equal (though stormlight glows, so its cooler), but I don't think a Full Lashing would work well against steel-pushed coins. A lashing can only accelerate something as fast as normal gravity (as I understand it), whereas a pushed object has the full weight a human applied to a much less massive object. Also, Kal's spear is most likely metal-tipped. And Kel can burn atium. You'd have to put them in a metal-less environment, give Kaladin an aluminum spear, and ban atium for the former Bridgman to win. Just thought of another match-up: Wax vs Dalinar. Although, Wax is probably a good enough shot to just put a bullet through the shardplates eye-slit, so maybe start them off close together. -

Well, this answers one of your questions (sort of). This is from the tor Wok reread comments. I don't know if it has been posted anywhere else yet. http://www.tor.com/blogs/2013/08/the-way-of-kings-reread-epigraphs-to-part-two Interesting thought on Hoid's storytelling. I think its more likely that his (probable) use of Lightweaving gives it a connection to Rosharin magic, but maybe you're on to something. Edit: Just realized your weren't actually asking who received the letter...Oops.
-
I bet Hoid spooked Vin because, as a Sliver, Vin has some connection to the power of creation, and could thus sense something off about Hoid. Note that others characters have noticed odd vibes from our favorite worldhopper as well. Vin is probably the only one paranoid enough to act on her instincts.
