Long Game 1: In the Wake of the Koloss
Gamma Fiend replied to Metacognition's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Dangit. I didn't expect the possibility of not being believed. damnation you game of lies and subterfuge! Us honest gamblers don't get believed. Ever. I should have asked Edgar to seek me tonight to verify what I am. But I guess we just have to wait and see how it goes. My vote for Edgar still stands. As my logic says above, Edgar only gave us already commonly known info. Even if Beetle was a spiked, he took a guess on calling me a regular villager. But since I'm saying he's right (you'll have to believe me. And I know any defense I make on my behalf of avoiding suspicions will just in turn make me more suspicious), there is some small sliver of credibility. I am willing to put myself on the line. If Beetle dies and is a spiked, I will go to the block (even though I'm innocent). We'll just call it a Gamble. edit: fixed edgars name so its not red. my vote for him is still in my prior post.- 462 replies

Long Game 1: In the Wake of the Koloss
Gamma Fiend replied to Metacognition's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Hm. This is a real pickle. I for one am glad I have avoided any suspicions so far. I will bite the bullet coin and declare I am a Regular Villager. And as far as suspicions go. Either Edgar or Beetle have to be a spiked. I just don't believe we would get two seekers. that would be awesome, but unlikely. and if one of them are seekers, then they should have some clues for us. Maybe they've had bad luck with seeking and haven't found any spiked yet, but then they at least know who isn't spiked. So we know both of them have been voting for non-spiked people. My guess would be to look there for clues. But we really have to make a good choice. One of our alleged seekers has to go. New theory when looking back... I may believe Beetle is good. He did call me out on being regular village. Any information Edgar gave us was already known. Beetle gave us information that wasn't know that played out to be true, verifying his seeker abilities in my mind. Gambles walked into the bar, turning everybody's heads. He wasn't stumbling, he didn't have a drink in his hand, he was clean shaven and one look at his eyes and one could see full clarity in them. "Yes," he said, addressing everybody in the bar at once, "I'm not drunk for once. This is more important than booze and gambling. I have good word from multiple dice games and with the recent turn of news, I think EDGAR is a spiked traitor!- 462 replies

Only in a Brandon Sanderson forum can a complete discussion and breakdown of WW1 not be a thread derailment.

I just think it's a little tough to say, "well this character should have done this instead at this time", or anything of like as a reader. we have that advantage of having that top-down view of everything and obviously realize there is a larger picture going on. But all of these characters have been making logical, consistent decisions. It's not even like it was just the elite group of parshendi rulers making a decision for their whole race, from the Eshonai readings and everything else, all indications point towards the Parshendi pushing for war at all costs. It seems to me at least that all of them are pushing to stop the Alethi from doing whatever they think it is the Altheti are going to do no matter what. I'm not going to say who may be right or wrong. Because really, we only know so little still at this point. Yes, Alethkar is a competition and war driven culture. I obviously disagree with a lot of their structures. But in world reality, with the present characters and conditions, the Alethi response to the assassination of the king has been nothing more than appropriate.

This was very good. I'm not going to go into grammar or style, cause I don't really focus on that stuff as much (I know, bad habit for an aspiring writer) but I liked it, so that's all I care about. is a nice subtle introduction into the whole ideas of Printing. I liked the narrative, too. Umm can't think of anything else, but keep it up. Good work.

I like. very solid start. I can see how you can get that Elantris-esque vibe from it, but I can see enough differences. Like Edgedancer said, everything is on good order and is a very nice setup.

Long Game 1: In the Wake of the Koloss
Gamma Fiend replied to Metacognition's topic in Sanderson Elimination
O.o I would like to formally request that if the Mistborn is not spiked, could he please use Tin the next cycle? hopefully he's been busy seeking out people? Also, as to who 'pushed' and who 'pulled', they were aiming at the same person. It could very well be that the Lurcher was targeting themselves, just in case, and random luck had it the coinshot targeted them. Or maybe the lurcher kind of guessed who the coinshot target was. A few people voiced their opinions before night actions were put in, a few leaning towards Edgar. Maybe the coinshot wanted to take care of business right away? And similarly the lurcher targeted Edgar thinking he might be a target? Now that I type this out, does seem a little unlikely. I would assume the Spiked are targeting random people, so no clues or pattern there. Edit: @Kurk, ah, ok my bad. Hopefully we get tin soon. >.< *Insert Gambles, speaking in his gruff, slurred drunken speech, "Well, so wants to start betting on what the Mistborn gets next?"- 462 replies

Woah. tons of new stuff to take in. The spren lecture was pretty awesome. very informative. And while it's cool Shallan is starting to take 'lessons' from Jasnah on attitude, I really hope she doesn't just try to become her clone. I like Shallan for her quirky rashness, not her poised control. And as much as apparently a lot of people on here are wishing for, I really hope half of Shallan's story arc doesn't get bogged down in some convoluted love triangle. Guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens when she goes and finally meets Adolin... And as far as not executing the Parshendi who admitted to making the plans to murder the King... of course they're going to be hanged! You do not just let murderers go and just be like, "Hey man, we're really upset. But since you're not answering any of our questions right now, we're going to let you go. We'll send envoys later and we'll really hope you want to talk then" Despite the fact the fleeing Parshendi wiped out 100 men and their horses who tried to pursue them. And yes, we saw on screen the three of them admit of Jasnah in private what they did. What makes you think that there was not even an 'offscreen' confession. Like, when everybody else gets there, they're still standing there and Jasnah says what they told her, it's as easy as somebody saying, "Is this true?" and they just nod and say yeah. Their guilt was very apparent, they stayed behind as a distraction because they knew what would happen. The Parshendi started this war, and there is no avoiding that. Any culture, besides perhaps the Shin, would respond in the very same fashion as the Alethi. I don't care who you are, if you kill a King at an alleged peace treaty and gladly claim responsibility, you're having the full power of the machines of war come after you.

Long Game 1: In the Wake of the Koloss
Gamma Fiend replied to Metacognition's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Gambles solemnly finished his bottle of whisky outside in the square where the towns people killed Grayv last night. What a mess, he thought. We're doing the enemies work for them. And we're no closer to getting out of this than before. Although it wasn't a total loss for him. Gambles was a known better, and it's not his fault people were willing to wager on things, no matter how morbid. Fact was, he didn't believe Grayv was guilty and had bet on his innocence. He's not to blame for profiting of other's misfortune. "I say we give Edgar a chance to speak for himself before we cast any more votes" He said, to a general agreement of everybody around. Public opinion was swaying towards Edgar as the next suspect, but like he said, Gambles didn't want to send another innocent man to the chopping block before he had a chance to defend himself. Although that blacksmith is pretty darned strong, Gambles mused, maybe a little too strong. I wonder how much pewter he has at his forge...- 462 replies

Why didn't he try and tell us he was a smoker? O.o Guess we might have not believed him. But still. very disappointing. I can't think of any clues on who to suspect yet. We have 36 hours to figure something solid out. anyone got any ideas? edited to fix color to OOC.- 462 replies

Long Game 1: In the Wake of the Koloss
Gamma Fiend replied to Metacognition's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Gambles was still a little drunk from last night, and the screams starting first thing in the morning did not help his pounding head. So it's already begun. He had a few hunches from last night as to who may be responsible, people really liked to talk when the dice were rolling and the drink was flowing. Although he had heard a few too many nasty rumors last night. I don't trust that Mat fellow, he was a little bit too suspicious. Just sitting there flourishing, drawing attention to himself and fear-mongering. Wanderers are never to be trusted. So that is a vote for Mat the Wanderer from me. I don't really suspect him more than anyone else, but who would it be besides the sneaky wanderer? XD- 462 replies

Long Game 1: In the Wake of the Koloss
Gamma Fiend replied to Metacognition's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Gambles had sat by himself most of the night, sipping his beer quietly. He, like most other people he observed, were subtlety trying to listen in on everyone elses conversations. Which tended to cause long spans of awkward silence fairly often. Koloss? Sabotage and betrayals? By the Lord Ruler, what is going on here? Gambles still wasn't entirely sure what to make of the whole situation. And there sure were a lot more unfamiliar faces around here. He had earlier lined his cheer up to keep an eye on the story-teller from earlier. He still didn't entirely trust him, there was something off about his story. Gambles shifted and reached into his coat pocket and grabbed out his two most precious items - his pair of dice and his coin purse. He grabbed a large handful and stood up, "Well if it seems that we're going to be destroyed from outside or within, I say we at least go down having fun!" He yelled, grabbing everyone's attention, "Next round's on me!" He was greeted by a hurrah of cheers and he set his dice down on the table. "Now let's play some dice!" You see, it's simple logic, Gambles thought, taking a few practice rolls, when people gamble they like the talk. And the drunker they are, the more they say. Gambles didn't know what was going on here, but he was going to find out the best way he knew how. And maybe fatten his purse in the process.- 462 replies

What about Has that idea been discredited at all yet?
-
Exactly. Just keep building away and fleshing things out. There's so much that can be initially over-looked but once you keep going for a while and go back you'll see new angles and things you could improve on. This Printing system has a lot of potential and the world it's set it can be a really unique place. And there's so many possibilities to explore that "morally grey" area, and just the psychology of people overall, with all the fear and mistrust, or at least wariness with physical contact of each other and things. Those will be very interesting facets of society to explore.
-
you mean... like.... non-fiction...? *GASP!* But... that's blasphemy!!! (seriously sounds like a cool book. I love particle physics and stuff like that)
-
lol the 17th Shard is loving this idea, it seems. I hope we can see some in-world writing soon, that'd be really cool, methinks.
-
Also, something as simple as currency. What would that look like? With coins or bills being handled and passed off by thousands/millions of people daily, there could be tons of imprinting possible. So you could also find something cool to work around that. And don't worry, not thinking of things like all of these crazy implications isn't necessarily 'bad' worldbuilding, it's just a process you gotta do. As you explore more possibilities and think out things more, you'll see tons of new potential and cool, nifty things that can be done. Oooh, crazy thought. I hope it doesn't sound like we're hi-jacking your ideas or telling you what you should do, but I just had a cool idea. There's ton of potential for 'Cult of Personality' stuff, strong influential religious or political figures. But what if there's also an inverse side? A faction that could be growing stronger... people who are wary or scared of Chiromancy, there could be some sort of sect or cult that go to extremes like burning leaders or followers fingertips, or their Prints, off, to avoid the whole possibilities of 'personality' type manipulation. Religious tension is always a fun thing to read/write about.
-
Pretty interesting idea, I like it. There's a lot of potential in the magic system. The thing with the Spirals in nature and druid type stuff... maybe use something with the 'Golden Spiral' or Fibonacci's Sequence... tapping into Nature's natural tendency to follow those patterns, those 'barbaric' people are actually able to use that 'secret code of nature' with spirals and tap into and manipulate Nature, allowing for crazier powers. Also, the Imprinting of personalities and stuff... I think this would have great implications for Science/technology and knowledge in general. Some mathematical or scientific genius, their stuff can be passed on and their research would continue. Heck, it could even be an honor to sacrifice yourself to become that Wise persons new 'vessel' for their personality, so to speak. So their could be some specific areas of advanced knowledge, influencing how the world will evolve. Keep with this, it could turn out really cool.

In the spirit of Christmas, A Survivorist hymn
Gamma Fiend replied to FeatherWriter's topic in Mistborn
FeatherWriter might be the holder of the Shard of Modesty.... but seriously, good song. Kudos to writer and singer and whoever had a hand in it. (Were the violins/background music you too?) And congrats on the retweets, on any and all occasions. Edit: lol thanks I should read more carefully XD -
yeah I would imagine a majority of time he would have just spend storing feruchemical charges, compounding, etc. And then what Darnam said, he did keep himself a little busy planning to thwart Ruin... althought I personally believe that was closer to the earlier parts of his rule. I think by Vin's time he was just some detatched, bored old man. Keeping around and reading Alendi's journal, I think that shows that he may actually sympathize with or relate to Alendi in some way. Becoming something bigger than yourself for the perceived greater good. Hell, he probably just sat around all day watching gold shadows missing his terrisman, herding days.
