Just picked up Wise Man's Fear. I'll post back when finished. Gotta say Name of the Wind was absolutely fantastic, so I'm really excited to read this.

SAO was awesome and I absolutely loved it... for the first half season. It was such a great premise! there was SO much potential for the RPG world, and leveling up, and beating the floors and getting to the end. In my opinion, they should have stuck with that. NOT Now that my SAO rant is out of the way... I also loved reading the Fullmetal Alchemist manga. I've never watched a ton of anime recently, but I've been reading (some) manga. FMA was one, and I loved the magic system and the world. The build-up was epic... and the ending was a bit let down. (like most animes) I've given up on reading Naruto and Bleach... just going on WAY too long with stupid, filler stories. The one Manga (or manwha) I've REALLY been digging has been Tower of God. It's korean, and a little weird. But all the major plot advancements revolve around very rule-oriented games, and using clever and ingenious ways to get around them. That's why I like it so much, because there's some form of intelligence and depth in the writing. The characters aren't too bad, either. Admittedly, the first half was A LOT better than this second arc has been so far, but I'm still excited to see what happens.

Just finished it up, been waiting to post in this thread while reading the books. Gotta say, I love Locke and Jean's characters, they are one of the best duos around. I do think this third one was not as exciting or hooking as the first two, though. Like mentioned above, the election rigging didn't seem as epic or crazy of a scheme. and

Oh I agree. Night Angel trilogy was definitely a lot more fun. The main characters were just a lot more hilarious and entertaining to read. And I really love those dark, gritty, type settings, with main characters doing all the sneaking, false-facing, tricks, poisons, alchemy, all that good stuff. That's why I'm enjoying the Gentlemen Bastard series so much at the moment. Lightbringer = better written and a lot more complex, consistent world. But watching Durzo Blint just be a boss at everything was awesome. And Dorian: Dem feels.

Finished this a week or so ago. Was very thoroughly impressed, especially considering it as a debut novel. I really can't wait to see how the world develops. I really dig the magic systems, especially the animosity between them, Old vs. new, always a fun struggle to watch. Pole was obviously the best character, really hope we get POVs of her in the next books. Olem was the next best side kick, and the Cook was hilarious. Although I hope we see some nifty knacks in Crimson Campaign also. I feel there's a lot of potential for cool stuff there. I was also lucky to be a Beta reader for his novella he's been working on, Forsworn, I guess he's done a couple so far. This one is back story on Tamas' wife, Erika. Was pretty cool to be a beta reader, never done that before. Good writing all around though, and can't wait to go see him when he comes to my hometown in the spring for 'the Crimson Campaign'.

SHIP CAPTAIN! (That wasn't me. Was just funny at first then horribly annoying by the end)
-
oh my god. The Dragon Ship Captain guy! He would not give it up, lol. And apparently Hoid hangs out with Gandalf and Dr Who. Was a very fun watch, very informational and insightful into his writing style.

I don't imagine anybody ever likes facing the Dustbringers Team.

It does say 'hundred and hundreds' which I take to mean probably close to a thousand, if not more. These lamps are supposed to consist of the whole royal treasury. The lighting is just dim in contrast to general illumination, i.e., overhead chandeliers and whatnot. I'm positive if all the spheres were in one giant pile, I'm sure it'd be bright as heck, but spread out throughout tons of lamps, it creates a somewhat dim glow overall.

Long Game 1: In the Wake of the Koloss
Gamma Fiend replied to Metacognition's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Still saying we could use a 'snapped' villager misting right about now... Heh. But seriously. I have been worrying more and more about the possibility of no betrayal. It does seem likely, but we need to start second guessing ourselves. I still have to throw my full trust into who Beetle and who he all all seeked and cleared. Even if Beetle has been leading the best deception of all time (and I mean committing to it enough to call out and have one of his own killed - still a remote possibility) I have no choice but to continue on this course. I've placed the last of my chips on this bet, so to speak. I highly doubt Beetle will survive the night. But maybe vote for Mat tonight? (and then if there's a third spiked, which I'm sure there is (probably just a regular one) it's got to be Darnam.- 462 replies

Long Game 1: In the Wake of the Koloss
Gamma Fiend replied to Metacognition's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Ok, here's who's all alive still. Me Beetle Clancy Maill Mat Darnam Wilson And Darnam has been AFK from this game for too long. If he's not in it anymore... we're basically screwed. (Unless he's been a spiked hiding in the background, using his storm-off as cover to just listen and wait) ((Remote, slim chance.)) What's more is that there is also a small possibility that we weren't betrayed, and that the Spiked just hit Kurk by chance, he was one of the more vocal, stronger villagers and still a threat. But as I said, I think we were infiltrated in the 'Circle' and that was used to draw the Coinshot out into the open. And with the Mistborn being spiked, there's not even a guarantee we can kill him even if he vote for them somehow. (Iron or Pewter) We still have plenty of hours. I'm not sure where the vote lies at this point, I know it's heavy in Maill's favor. But we need to think carefully before we proceed. Let's use our time and really, really, figure this out. (My vote is still for Maill at this point... but we need to be certain to go forward with this)- 462 replies

Long Game 1: In the Wake of the Koloss
Gamma Fiend replied to Metacognition's topic in Sanderson Elimination
I agree it would be best to wait to see the results of who Beetle seeks... but will he survive the night to tell? The fact Beetle hasn't been killed yet is mind boggling to me, actually. I'm pretty sure they were waiting for the 'grand betrayal' though first probably, and now that they took out their biggest fear - our coinshot - Beetle is next in line, now that his trust is no longer of use to them. So Mat and Maill. I want to vote for the one in the group we're all pretty sure of, but I understand the suspicions of Mat and if everybody wants to kill him and start voting for him instead, I'll follow along. We, the Villagers, need to be unanimous in our votes to ensure the Spiked get killed. We can't have any split decisions or close-calls. We can not allow the Spiked to kill even one more of us. Edit: And when this is all done, that would be pretty cool to turn it into a short story or something fan-fiction. I think that would be cool if some (or most) of us wrote complete narrative short stories and shared them from our character's point of views. We already each have a lot of good groundwork here in the thread.- 462 replies

Long Game 1: In the Wake of the Koloss
Gamma Fiend replied to Metacognition's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Beetle is right. I was brought into the circle of trusted and then Kukri joined us. We talked everything out, Beetle told us he seeked Aether and he came up smoked. Kukri revealed he was the coinshot and we made plans to have Kukri take him out. We got one of them, but at the cost of our best weapon. Your sacrifice will not be in vain, Kukri! I agree it had to have been Maill who sold us out. And then my next best bet would be Mat. Edit: Yes, it does seem like we did get screwed. But we did gain valuable information from those PMs. Kukri revealed himself knowing the full risk, and honestly it was a good risk. Because of his and Beetle's collaboration he was able to successfully target and take out a spiked. (also, Maill was already in the initial 'circle of trust' and there when I joined in) So Maill, you must come make your defense. Wilson seems to be already deeply trusted by Beetle, and he made the strongest arguments against Aether that made Beetle decide to seek him. Mat wasn't part of the group either.- 462 replies

Alright, well if Clancy's clean, then I was suspecting Mat as well. I have been suspicious of that 'voting pact' that Aether entered into, but if Clancy's clean, I don't suspect Darnam anymore at this point, either. (Please come back to us Darnam, we need your help!- 462 replies

Long Game 1: In the Wake of the Koloss
Gamma Fiend replied to Metacognition's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Gambles stood at the foot of two fresh graves, solemnly looking down at two more lost comrades. "But we've finally got one." He said, tipping his bottle and letting some spill to the ground. An offering. He up-ended the bottle and let all of it spill out, every single drop. This was the last bottle he had found in Dyring's old cellar, the place was tapped out clean. No more booze. No more wild gambles. Enough people had already died, and it was time to take the fight back to the enemies. Gambles crushed the empty bottle under his heel and turned around, briskly striding away from the graves. The light of a nearby bonfire - a roaring tempest to dispose of the spiked remains - lit up Gambles eyes and they shone with a fierce, burning determination. No more dead innocents. He silently vowed. Figured we've reached a good time for character development. But honestly have no idea who to suspect next. But hey, at least we finally got one! Fantastic write-up of course, Meta. (But what's it take to give some regulars a hand and make one of us 'randomly' snap?) Edit - Very happy I successfully called Aether out. (Take that, Spiked!) This is out best clue to work with. It is time to SCOUR this thread, and see who Aether has been subtly protecting and steering the votes and suspicion away from. I think Clancy is our best lead so far. But I'll still wait to cast my vote, for now.- 462 replies

That's what this village has needed the whole time... A healthy, calming dose of WoR previews. Now we're not as concerned with killing each other, just too busy reading and doing happy 'speculation dances' Edit: I think this is something everyone, spiked or not, can agree on. Happy readings!- 462 replies

Does this mean Kaladin will grow a tail?
-
Just had a thought.... what would it be like to be a non-17thShardian (dunno what else to call us) to be reading these chapters? there's like... a crap ton of name drops and just Cosmere theories galore in here. There's just a lot of stuff going on that I don't think I'd have nearly as good a grasp on if I didn't browse and participate on these forums.

I think they're referring to the whole 'quantum spren' bit, the act of observing and recording a spren in a certain state will make it stay that way. So I think a lot of people here are worried that since Shallan drew (or captured) her Spren in it's juvenile/limited state, it will stay that way. Or at least have to grow from there. Which this theory definitely has more merit although we still don't know why it started appearing in this simple state instead of the full formed Cryptics from before.

Long Game 1: In the Wake of the Koloss
Gamma Fiend replied to Metacognition's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Gambles was slumped over on the table in the deserted tavern, he had snuck back in here to raid the alcohol while it still lasted. He had made it as far as the nearest table carrying his load before he decided to have a seat and start drinking. He passed out shortly afterward. A wind rushed through the windows and the breeze stirred the still air in the room, picking up dust and swirling them around. "Wha-?!" Gambles nearly shouted, sitting up abruptly, the groggy tone of his voice clearly indicating he had just woken up. He paused and shivered. He could swear he heard voices in the wind, and he was positive it wasn't his mind playing tricks on him. He had felt the tickle of breath from somebody speaking in his ear, the curses and whispers of the dead. "...we will watchhh...." Gambles tried to shake it off and tell himself it was just the result of a booze-addled, fear-fueled dream. It was only a dream because the real nightmare was outside, hiding in the mists. He shook his head again and blindly fished for the nearest bottle in the dark. Nursing his trepidation with alcohol - the solution to everything - Gambles just sipped quietly and waited for the hellish night to end.- 462 replies

Also, anybody notice Elokhar's surprise or lack of information regarding Kaladin? He didn't know Dalinar had a new bodyguard retinue and he didn't know about Kaladin being a dark-eyed captain. How the hell is the King so unattached with the news and current events of his camp? I understand he's kind of an imbecile at times, and has to "overlook" the 10 war camps, but don't you think he should pay more attention to his Uncle and his actions, especially considering how much Dalinar is taking over? Like, it seemed he was genuinely mystified by Kaladin being there and the circumstances leading up to it. How can you not even hear rumors of your Highprince of War buying out and using former bridge-crews as new soldiers and guards, or hear about the newly appointed Captain? Elokhar really needs to get his crap together. Edit: I think somebody said the first 10 chapters were released for WoK beforehand over time. So the first 5 chapters a few months ahead of time doesn't seem like too much in comparison. Yeah, most publishers and stuff don't seem to release as much beforehand... but that's what makes Tor and Brandon Sanderson so gosh-darn awesome, amirite?
