"Must not have been your favorite vintage," Gamon said, sliding into the seat next to Eddy. He gave up trying to remember all the new faces around here, too many unfortunate souls with even worse genes, so instead decided to single out the person nearest to him. Much to his dismay it had been the rambling drunk of the group, Eddy. Who, after finishing off a bottle in no time at all, promptly -- and without warning or provocation -- just tossed the empty bottle against the wall, shattering it with a loud crash. If anybody took any notice, there was no obvious signs and everybody just continued talking and milling about. "How about a nice cup of brandy?" Gamon asked, perking up Eddy's attention at the word, 'brandy', and holding out a cup for him. Ah, alcohol, he mused, the grand unifier. "What do you think of this whole mess? Do you think we can still pull this off? Heck, most of us still don't even know each other, for Lord Ruler's sake!"

Ah, yes. The former spiked from the previous game They did indeed prove themselves to be tricky last game. So now we need to ask: How cruel would Meta be to make one of them Spiked this time through again? (Unless it's all randomly rolled, of course) Obviously they will all be immediately suspected. But maybe that'd be too obvious? So we don't target them. But that's what they wanted us to think the entire time! See? We could run in circles of logic around it, never getting a guaranteed answer And oh, snap! We got our first full-fledged accusation! that didn't take long.

Alright, looks like "no kill" is a valid option. I'll go with that for now. (Although, I personally think they should only count as 'abstained' votes. I am new to all of this (only second game ever) but it seemed to me the point of Mafia was killing people and facing the consequences of our actions. We have to kill to move forward in the game. But I will gladly accept the current rulings, as that gives the Regulars a slight advantage, I think.) Edit: Thanks, Meta, for the clarifications! At least we're getting around to asking for rule clarifications before three days in to the massacre this time! I'll still have my vote as abstained for now, though. There's still plenty of time to figure out who to kill.

Basically. Although I wouldn't pay too much attention to the existing roleplaying from the other thread yet, as that was all character building and we didn't even have roles yet. So nothing indicative of who to suspect yet. Now there are to ways we can proceed: vote somebody and take a random kill. This is obviously not a good chance at all, a 1 in 29 shot in the dark, if you will Now my last character, Gambles, would probably take those chances, but the only thing Gamon relies on are his good looks, not luck. Or we can wait. Give everybody a chance to talk and rationalize, get a basis of our characters roleplaying with our roles. See what people are saying or what they're trying to do. I think it would definitely be in our best interest to not vote right now, as that was a mistake made in the last game and we killed off some really strong villagers really early on, and I know most of us don't want to mess that up again. BUT we do have 48 hours (unless most people again decide 36 is better, but with about twice as many players, that shouldn't be a problem) edit: I think it's only a majority is needed, even if it's only one vote. And @Kurk, I think its either 'no vote' or 'vote for x' I think there in lies the danger in absolutely nobody voting, allowing it to be easily rigged in the Inquisitor's favor. That's why we must decide, one way or another, and face the consequences of our actions.

Gamon stood in the small crowd that had gathered outside where Modeft's body had been found earlier. That didn't take long, he mused bitterly. And to think, they were all just in there drinking wildly last night, he had even considered dancing with some of the ladies present. They weren't as good looking as him, but they would do in the meantime. Maybe he should have hired a few bodyguards to protect him? Gamon repressed a shiver, trying not to look at the hideous corpse. At least these thieves and criminals had enough decency to cut the body down. Gamon once again reached into his pocket, fingering the folded-up note he put in there earlier. He had awoken to find this slid underneath his door sometime throughout the night. When first reading, he didn't believe it and rushed over to get clarification from Modeft about the instructions. Apparently, almost everybody else did, too. Either way, there was no backing out now. They were in too deep, and there was an Inquisitor hiding amongst them. There was only one way to go forward: to do the jobs Modeft had assigned them and to keep going about it, all while trying to find the real enemy.

I think Meta said last night that he'll allow sign-ups for another 24 hours. We're a couple hours away from then and have a solid 30 people, so far I believe. Probably just have to wait for Meta to get back online and have a little bit of time to get all the roles assigned and the write-up started. I imagine this will be a mini-headache to sort through already. Good thing Aether is helping out with his lists. That'll probably take a little bit of time to get organized and written up. I think we should, for the sake of Meta's sanity, probably ease up on all the RP posts for just the moment, until the game gets officially started. This is all good fun and I can't wait til it gets going full swing, but I think 8 pages of character narratives is a good enough foundation for right now. Let's just all sit here calmly and sip our alcohol quietly like good little thieving crews. Edit: I hope nobody took my suggestion as rude or 'wannabe mod-ish', looking back over my text I see there could be that sort of vibe in there. It was just a suggestion out of consideration for Meta, mostly. I just can't believe we're already at 8 pages, and the game and arguments haven't even started!

Gamon was quietly wondering just what type of job, exactly, required all 30 or so of these useless, ugly brutes? He was starting to grow impatient. The gall of this so-called crew leader! Gamon had never respected people who didn't look as good as him -- i.e., anybody else who had ever lived -- and he was starting to worry about the size of the crew and operation. There was no way something of this size could avoid the notice of the Inquisitors, those hideous, unsightly fiends. Just what is Modeft getting at, here? He wondered, as he finished up his drink and idly sat twiddling his thumbs. Gamon wasn't usually an impatient man, it was just being forced to endure the company of mediocrity for so long really was a test of endurance. Maybe he could go to the dice table in the nearby corner and have some fun for a little bit? He almost ordered another drink and was about to stand and go to the table when he seemed to hear a voice whisper in his ear. "No gambles!" He swung his head around, bewildered, and there was nobody even nearby him. Just what in the name of Ruin was that?

Yeah, this Modeft might be in over his head with a crew this size. I am so excited for this game to get started! I keep waiting/hoping for the PM at the top of the page to tell me my role and let me know the game is officially on! Gamon sat alone at a table, positioned strategically in the common room so everybody walking in could get a clear glance at him. Sure are a lot of new faces around here. Gamon thought, only slightly worried. He had been through the same thing before, the apprehension and wariness of new people in thieving crews, it was always a risky thing. You couldn't exactly trust somebody you haven't personally run multiple scams with. Not that Gamon was worried or anything. He was still, by far, the best looking thief in the crew. And really, what was more important than that?

Cool! I believe we'll be able to create a lot of cool roles and game variants. The only idea I've had for Stormlight Elimination would be (based of of very limited information): I'll put up spoiler tags just in case for now, I guess.
-
I, too, have thought about using Feruchemical elements in future game rules. Should we start another thread to discuss possible future game variants? Just for the sake of preventing this thread from getting long and more cluttered up than need be?

Upvote just for the Princess Bride reference! Probably one of my all time favorite movies. Because although everybody knows the classic blunder "never start a land war in Asia" but not many people are aware that you shouldn't go in against a Sicilian when death is on the line! AH HA HA! AH HAHA MWA HAHA! -ugh

Thinking about possible other game variants, one for Stormlight Elimination could be we're Spren trying to find the Odium (corrupter spren) among us? Of course would probably work better once WoR comes out, but that'd be a pretty fun round. Who says we always need to be humans?

lol this is awesome, glad this is taking off so much. I just remember having so much fun in the first game (even if I made very horrible decisions that led us regulars to our ultimate downfall), I'm glad there will be a lot more of this going on. And yeah, that first game did become a behemoth near the end, I mean, we're already at page 3 with just sign-ups and role choices and rule clarifications. and I have a feeling this game will be a lot more active, with so many more players, and will last a very long time (hopefully). So with that, let me give a little bit more backstory of Gamon, before roles are assigned and any of this becomes prone to suspicion I grew up a Skaa plantation laborer, working in the fields under the lash of the whip. That is, until the Nobleman's wife took a fancy to my looks, and she started having me work up a sweat with her instead, if ya catch my drift. Of course the husband eventually found out. Was none too pleased, him. Good thing I had my whole extended plantation family having my back, and good thing Luthadel just so happened to be under rebellion, so the nobleman didn't exactly have backup reinforcements. We drove the nobleman and his family -- his lustful wife included -- off the plantation and claimed the land as our own. But let's just say I had a taste of finer living during my courting of the noble mistress, and plain skaa living just didn't suit me much anymore. I left out of there shortly after and headed to the nearest city, Urteau. Once there I quickly realized my blatant good looks weren't a common thing. Back at the plantation I figured I was just an anomaly there, and was cut of slightly better cloth, but in the city found out I was extraordinarily good looking. I thought my former owner just happened to be unlucky with his looks and therefore was cast out to the countryside, but I soon found out that there were even uglier people in the city! Fortunately for me, my astonishing good looks drew the eye of women everywhere. Unfortunately for me, my astonishing good looks drew the eye of women everywhere. I got into a few sticky situations and drew the ire of many well known and respected business men, thus ensuring me unable to find any sort of legitimate job anywhere in Urteau. Luckily for me that's when I met Modeft, and his minor thieving crew. We started busting out jobs all across the city, growing in reputation and size. Before long, we were pulling off big heists, always eluding capture and ensnaring the attention of the city. This was when Modeft came to us and proposed the heist of a lifetime, one of those offers you just couldn't refuse. If we can pull this off, we may become legends like the Survivor himself... although I've seen drawings of him, and I don't see what's so impressive. I am much better looking than him, after all.

While that would be fun, similar to the brief 'haunting' we had from one of the dead players whispering about our imminent demise, I think that might end up becoming a distraction or messing with the game in some ways. It's just sometimes some people who are already dead can have some new information they didn't get a chance to tell the group before they died (a seeker dying before be can reveal somebodies role) so that could really change the course of the game. I do think Meta had some 'heaven' or afterlife .doc set up where dead people were able to chat with each other and talk about the ongoing game, though.

I think Meta will probably have whoever gets converted will get a PM saying so, and then I assume get an invite to whatever private messaging or Google .doc chat thing the Inquisitor has going. This whole 'hemalurgy' mechanism will be very nifty and will sow a lot of chaos among us. I can't wait!

Oh dear, it seems most of the previous spiked are in. They'll have to dodge some immediate suspicion, haha. (some grudges die hard ) But I think it will be nice to have Aether's power of lists fully on our side. (assuming him and I are regulars/good guys) This will be really cool though, with the Inquisitor turning people. This game will get crazy indeed.

I'll go ahead and introduce myself. They call me Gamon. I'm told the name means 'one who enjoys playing games'. But the games I play are with ladies hearts. As a regular old, cassanova, my good looks are always make me the center of attention of all ladies, much to the chagrin of my male peers. I can't help it, it's just how I am. Edit: Adding in snapping is awesome, great new twist!

YESSSSSSSSSS!!!! I've been hoping this would come back. I honestly think now that it has been introduced to the forum, and we've already has a game as a good example of how it works, everything should got a lot more smoothly from here on out. I am going to go sign up for the next game right now. Edit: Also this is awesome, cause now since it's 'unbanned' I'll feel more comfortable finishing up the Short Story I've been writing based off the first game, using just the characters and in-game discussion as material, and the events and outcome, of course. It's been shaping up pretty good, I'll try and post it up in the Fanfiction section of the forum when I get more done/clean it up a little bit.

The first book, in comparison to the rest of the series, is the strongest and the weakest. Strongest because it works as a standalone, in some ways, and because it was still at that time a very small story that had tons of potential to become something huge and epic. Which it did. But in retrospect, after book two the story could have taken so many different turns. I can see it being weak, because of the world we begin to explore in later books is so much larger, and after a while begins to seem disconnected from the first book. Mind you, King did go back and revise the first book and re-published it with very minor changes and trying to get the tone more set for the future books, and just go more in line with the ending. It's just that I am almost 99% positive King had no idea where the series was going to go in book one, save for maybe the ending and vague themes and events he wanted to touch. And then after it started to come out, it definitely becomes a lot more overwhelming and truly epic in scale. If I recall correctly, The Gunslinger was originally published in parts or chapter by chapter in whatever Fantasy/SF magazine King was submitting to back in the 70's. The story is still one of his first ideas/novels he worked on starting at age 19. Just for me, regardless of how people feel the series ended, or how it started to change at the end (Wolves of the Calla and onward), I will definitely admit it changes direction from where it seemed to be going, but just look at Stephen King's life to see why. This series literally became part of him, I really think. Here was a series, his magnum opus, that he had been working on his entire life, and then he almost dies. (When he was hit by the van and seriously injured in 1999), and he realized he didn't want to die, especially before he finished writing the Dark Tower. And then earlier in his life before then, with drug and addiction problems, you can definitely see how those factored in effected him and the series in some way. It's just like Wheel of Time, even if you don't like it, you can't help but acknowledge and respect such literary achievement. Edit: Is your avatar the boss from IT Crowd, by the way?

Mentor, huh? XD I don't know if there are any definite dates but he did say he will be back after his book comes out in spring, and the release is early May right now, so I hope he comes back to Mentor! Lemme know if you go to the Barnes and Nobles if he comes, that'd be cool to meet up with a Sharder in real life.

Well first off I'll have to give my acknowledgements to Stephen King and most of his books. His novels were what got me into reading full time. Starting the Dark Tower series in 9th grade was probably one of the best decisions I've ever made. Still to this day those 7 books are among my favorites, and will always have a place in my favorite series, ever. Favorite non-Dark Tower book by Stephen King is Long Walk, one of the novels he wrote under hid pseudonym, Richard Bachman. Wheel of Time - The Dragon Reborn, Lord of Chaos, or A Memory of Light, those were my three favorite from that series. In A Song of Ice and Fire- the first and third books so far are my favorites, A Game of Thrones and Storm of Swords. Storm of Swords just has so many awesome character arcs finish up and turning points, it ends so strongly and most of the current problems are resolved and moving into another phase. For non-fantasy books, I have to say Catch 22 is probably the funniest and most clever darn thing I've ever read. It's a real mind-bender. But just so hilarious and entertaining to read. I've always recommended all of my friends to read this book. I just think it's a book that no matter who you are you'll enjoy it. And of course add Way of Kings and the Mistborn series on my list of favorites. Gotta add those in for sure.

Very valid point. But the first couple of episodes were about nothing but the survivey-MMORPG vibe. Was very misleading considering they dropped that whole bit fairly quick.
