Heh. Yeah. If anybody actually does read through all (or even most) of that Spiked Doc, you deserve an upvote or two. Some parts are pretty hilarious, though. (Like when they all got to watch me fail miserably at typing drunk a few nights...) Good game everybody, though. Wes definitely did a fantastic job with his Coinshot ability and almost had the Spiked on the ropes. It was a shame that the Spiked did basically only win because of in-actives, though. I do hope that's not deterrent for future games of this size and scope or anything. Because there was definitely a large lull by the end of the game (even in both Docs). But I'm excited for this next game though.

Long Game 3: Blackwater Village
Gamma Fiend replied to Peng the Just's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Gamut had to wipe a tear from his eye... That Meta fella' was downright hilarious. He had Gamut laughing so hard, it was already worth all the effort of having him dragged outside in his small clothes. Pity he didn't say anything else much helpful. It could also be some sort of gambit, Gamut warned himself. And he should know. He had pulled off more than a few sly gambits in his days, and was rather good at him. Or so he thought -- and the fact he was still alive after pulling them all those years should be evidence enough. Is anybody going to clean this bloody body up? Or are we to just leave it here for everyone to look at until the Mists claim it? Gamut figured there wasn't much else to be done in the mean time, and decided to head back to the tavern and divulge himself. Lurcher's Inn had some of the best Nelson's Folly in town. He barged in through the door and yelled out for the bartender, "A draught of your strongest Clap of Thunder, if it pleases ye." He tossed a few coins over at Bartson who deftly caught them. "And keep 'em coming."- 739 replies

Long Game 3: Blackwater Village
Gamma Fiend replied to Peng the Just's topic in Sanderson Elimination
The screams had stopped as suddenly as they had started. And Blackwater Village was left with a corpse. Gamut made his way to the front of the gathering crowd, trepidation creeping up him like a cold shiver. Before he saw the body he already knew who it was. Blimey. He warn't us this 'ould happen. Gamut thought solemnly. Knowing something might happen and seeing the aftermath were two different things, though. "Avast, and listen up, maties!" Gamut shouted out. "I want ye to fetch me Selvar and Raubber. The towns' Doctor and Undertaker." He thought for a moment and then added, "And grab Meta, too! Let's see if he's half good a detective as he claims." Everybody just stood around and stared dumbly for a moment. Gamut could tell they would be reluctant to follow his orders. He clapped his hands. "Smartly, now! Cyrus here was a good man, and he don't deserve to be left out like no Bilge Rat to be gawked at." Gamut knew people wouldn't take kindly to him taking charge like this. But somebody had to do it. And he had appointed himself as Provost. Maintaining order and keeping everybody moving without any formal authority was one of Gamut's favorite skills. It was when he felt truly alive. I will find the mutineers that did this. I will fit them for their chains and hold no quarter. They will pay for this. Gamut silently vowed this to himself as people finally responded to his commands and went to fetch help.- 739 replies

Long Game 3: Blackwater Village
Gamma Fiend replied to Peng the Just's topic in Sanderson Elimination
"Say," Gamut suddenly says, speaking up out of nowhere. "I dunno about ye lads, but these last few spans I've been seeing crazy things out of the corner of me eye! I swear to ye I'm not yankin' any chains!" He raises his voice and begins to wave his arms about, drawing everybody's attention -- and thus convincing him he is actually insane. "I make an Oath on the Survivor's Ghost I've been seeing ghostly, shimmering sentences scrawled into the walls or floating in mid-air. I can never make heads or tails of what they say, I've just been catching brief glimpses as I'm turning my head or roundin' a corner." Gamut began to pace, in a full rant now. "I'm not sure what to make of these odd occurrences. But I have a feeling it's important. I may be gone and busy for a few days, studying some research material I have coming in me mail. But I want ye laddies to know I'll still be around. But I may only pop in here for Town Meetings and a drink or two at Lurcher's Inn." He looks around the room and meets everyones' eyes. "Just thought I'd give ye a fair warning." OOC: So basically my way of saying in RP that I'll only be stopping in here at the Elimination section. I am definitely avoiding the rest of the forum until I finish WoR. (and yeah, yeah. Doesn't really sound super-piratey. But cut me some slack!)- 739 replies

Long Game 3: Blackwater Village
Gamma Fiend replied to Peng the Just's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Gamut was sitting idly by and passing time at a table by himself tossing a pair of dice. He hadn't gambled in a while, but winning money off of suckers was yet another skill he possessed. He cast the dice three times in a row, only slightly pausing to look at what he threw before scooping them up and tossing them again. To most people this happened so fast they only really saw a blur. "Three pairs of ones," said a voice nearby. It sounded muffled and slightly mechanical, which could only mean it was Lents, the Town Tinker wearing that crazy mask again. "I say we lynch him!" Cried Joe who was hovering nearby, pointing at Lents. "His face really creeps me out!" "Aye, three Tineyes. A win or a lose, depending on what you're playing." Gamut says quietly. Keeping your voice above a whisper and making it travel so everyone around you listens raptly was just another of Gamut's various set of skills. "I don't think we should be giving out Black Spots just yet," he says, addressing Joe. "The Tinker Man gives me the jeebies too, but I don't think we should start making anyone dance the hempen jig until Captain Cyrus tells us what's going on here." "And speaking of which," Gamut adds in, jabbing a finger at Mabi. "Ye lass don't know what kind of carousers there be 'round here. I recommend staying over at Lurcher's Inn before ye Crack Jenny's Tea Cup." "And stop editing me list!" He shouts at everyone after another pause. Among all of his wide range of skills, complaining was one of the things he was best at.- 739 replies

All is quiet in the night and the Mists begin to twist and churn out of control. The mists begin to bunch together and grow in shape and size, turning into a dense silhouette of a person. "Join me brother..." a haunting voice cries out, "there is still much work to do..."

Long Game 3: Blackwater Village
Gamma Fiend replied to Peng the Just's topic in Sanderson Elimination
A jaunty, strummed tune begins to accompany Wark's voice, and Gamut adds in a deep baritone hum, turning the out of key, warbled song into something not so unpleasant. The instrument Gamut was playing was a small traveler's lute, produced out of his cloak with nothing but a flourish. He winked at the crowd again and reminded them that making bawdy music was just one of his many skills, then he went right back into the music. It was better to keep them busy with merriment and distraction, lest they talk too openly and divulge important information. You never know who was listening.- 739 replies

Long Game 3: Blackwater Village
Gamma Fiend replied to Peng the Just's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Everybody seemed to be gathered for the Town Meeting, so Gamut went ahead and made himself useful. Now that he wasn't as drunk, he could put his various skills to use, instead of just trying to talk like a pirate. It just so happened that one of his best skills happened to be List MakingTM. After strolling around the town all day and listening to everybody's conversations as they all filed over to where Cyrus asked them to meet, he had compiled a quick list of everybody and their claimed professions. List of Villagers: Gamut - Ex-pirate. Jack-of-all-trades Clan - Grumpy old farmer Joe - Town Metallurgist Maw - Middle-aged farmer Meta - Wannabe Detective Bartson - Tavern owner Alon - Traveling Tradesman Wark - Scarred *Hopeless Drunk Selvar - Town *THE Doctor Asp - Town Peddler Lents - Town Tinker Dane - Fake Noble Raubber - Town Undertaker Erendi - Liar with a mysterious past Xaneth - Shady Wanderer *Professional Spy Mac - Town Giant Dyrii - Master Thatcher Arst - Town Warrior Forage - Master Merchant (maybe Worldhopper) Vizinni - A Foreign Lord Mabi - Town Seamstress Chidden - Young Hero "So here's all the hands I've tallied so far. Now if I missed any of ye, my 'pologies. Just lemme know and I'll fix that right up." He flashed everybody a grin as he nailed the list up and gave them a brief bow, with a fancy flourish of his ragtag cloak. "And just ye laddies remember. This only be one of me many skills."- 739 replies

Long Game 3: Blackwater Village
Gamma Fiend replied to Peng the Just's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Gamut didn't quite know what to make of all the chaos going on around him. Just a few days ago, the town had seemed so peaceful and quiet. And now everyone was running around, making wild, outrageous claims and were rabble-rowsing back and forth. It was anarchy. And Gamut loved anarchy. "'Ay, maties. I dunno about ye, but I savvy Cyrus as our coxswain, and when he calls us all to a meeting and starts flying around like a Mistborn, we should all heed his words." Maybe it was because Gamut was heavy in the spirits, but his old dialect and mannerisms had started to come back out. And Cyrus spoke with such authority, it was certain who was the Captain of this here town, so Gamut promptly fell in line. And besides, maybe Cyrus would be impressed with Gamut and name him provost. Somebody needed to be in charge of discipline around here. It couldn't always be left to Cyrus to prevent petty theft.- 739 replies

Which Shardworld would you most like to live on?
Gamma Fiend replied to TheShogun's topic in General Brandon Discussion
I'd say Roshar. Not surprising it isn't a popular choice. Nalthis wouldn't be too bad, seeing as how you could just eventually buy your power and way to the top. But Roshar is the only world so far that your actions actually determine your powers. In Elantris world, you just randomly get hit by the Shaod. In Scadrial, it's your blood lines. Even on Nalthis, people have to buy, sell, trade, and/or con their way into more powers. On Roshar, it's what you do that determines what you get. You can forge your own path. It's just the world of Roshar seems way more vast and adventurous. why wouldn't I want to ride out a highstorm whilst cowering in a small hole I had to dig to avoid the weather? That's living, baby! And I'm a dark-eyed? There's no way I'd be hanging around Alethkar, so that's not a worry for me. -
A Greater Evil arrives... but where from?
Gamma Fiend replied to Benjibooboo's topic in Stormlight Archive
Trollocs? Oh, wait. Wrong series. Um, yeah I'm thinking we'll start seeing actual 'voidbringer' type creatures, real monsters in the literal sense, or some of those good ol' Thunderclasts. But everybody is going to have to get along first (Szeth, Dalinar, Mr. T, Kaladin, Jasnah, etc) which will probably take a little while to happen, (if at all). -
I do believe one time I did see a WoB where for some of Lightsong's dialogues and witty remarks, it took him a couple hours sometimes just to come up with the 'perfect response'. So I think that helps your argument a little bit. If it took Sanderson that long to come up with witty responses, then it definitely isn't a natural, quick quip that clever people are most known for, and that's the characteristic he is trying to show us for Lightsong/Shallan type characters.

"Sorry, Roban," Gamon whispered. He didn't want to do it. He didn't want to be responsible for another innocent life. But he had to. It was getting too close to the wire, the stakes were too high. But with the vote stuck at it's current 3-way-split, the Spiked could control the vote too easily. So something had to be done. So Gamon cast his vote and went to go search for a bottle of alcohol. If he was going to be wrong again.... well let's just say he wasn't going to face that decision sober.

The mists were gone, burned away in the daylight by the blazing red sun. But there was still a heaviness that lay thick on the air. Deep in the Harrow's, there was a veil of silence hanging over the thieving crews' dens. All of their planning and plotting was brought to a halt. All friendly conversation and idle chit-chat had crawled to a stop. Suspicion and paranoia was thick in the air, flowing off of everybody in waves. The darting eyes, clenched fists, and hostile postures when they all were near eachother was starting to wear the former Modeft's crew down. Even his cursed poison, his 'perfect idea' to keep the crew in line, was at the back of everybody's minds. There were some crew members who hadn't even been seen since this whole ordeal had began, and Gamon had no idea if they were even still kicking, or not. He may not have known about anybody else, but as for himself, he planned to keep living. And that meant going back to Dyring's Inn for the antidote. The place was now mostly abandoned and in a state of disarray, spots on the ground where blood has seeped into the wooden flooring and stained it a dark red. Flipped over or broken, disheveled furniture, upended and tossed around in the many arguments and fights that had taken place. The messages that had been scrawled on the walls the last few nights, no longer being obsessively washed off every night, were just slightly starting to fade. Gamon finished his drink in silence, remembering the names of all those who had fallen. He didn't want their sacrifices to be in vain. But who are the traitors?! He furiously asked himself. Every suspicion he has had so far had been dead wrong. And at the cost of innocent lives. He had been used to being the Cassanova of the crew. The center of attention. The subject of admiration and jealousy in equal regards. But now he realized how foolish he used to be. Never before had his word held so much weight. Not once in his life were his opinions and object of attention scrutinized so badly. Never ever had he been so scared and in such a grave circumstance. Not yet, he thought. I can't accuse anybody falsely, again. I need more time. I need to be sure! Edit: Fantastic job on the translation, Aonar. Very nicely done. Many kudos. And kudos to you again, Sir Hero. Your Tineye messages were greatly appreciated this game.

Long Game 3: Blackwater Village
Gamma Fiend replied to Peng the Just's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Meet Gamut, his name means the complete range or scope of something, and the name couldn't be more perfect. Gamut has spent his whole life running all sorts of odd jobs. His set of skills is quite impressive, and is very knowledgeable on a lot of subjects. He likes to tell people the more exciting times of his life was when he was part of a crew that hijacked and robbed the various merchant ships that used to travel the various canals of the Final Empire. After losing a few too many friends he settled down and retired to a backwoods village in the far reaches of the Eastern Dominance, Blackwater Village. He had spent the last few years believing he was safe, and his old enemies were left way behind. But after the course of recent events in the village, he wasn't so sure anymore. Edit: As other people have said, if space becomes an issue for the game size, feel free to cut me to make room. I've already got one (almost two) games under my belt. Definitely let some other people in on the action first. Edit: TL;DR - I am an ex-pirate named Gamut who has a very wide range of skills.- 739 replies

I am changing my vote. I am pretty sure we're still just getting played by the Spiked. I remember when we started going after the inactive players is when that whole Cessie/Snapped gambit popped up. I'm voting for Mat, now.

Might as well throw my vote in for Aspren at this point too. Seems pretty one-sided. Does anybody have any argument in his defense as to why we shouldn't do this? Edit: Changed vote from Aspren. Look below for details.

Chromium Twinborn Master the art of the Drunken Monkey Kung-Fu, and make the luckiest strikes against an opponent in hand-to-hand combat, rendering their Allomancy/Feruchemy useless. Compounding Luck will create some interesting situations in your favor. You might even be able to beat Matrim Cauthon in a game of dice.

I just read and finished the books, so I haven't really had to wait much yet, so I can't weigh in on anything regarding that. But one thing I wanna say about Kvothe, yeah he fits the typical "Alpha Male/White Knight" with a severe flaw when handling females, it's a little bit of a well-known archetype, but what Rothfuss does differently, I think, is make us sympathize for Kvothe in a different way. His story has done nothing but show us how human he actually is. He may do/experience extraordinary things, but he still feels really strong, normal emotions that any of us can empathize with. And that is done through the artistry of his writing, no doubt.

Responding to Clancy's PM inviting me to this: Oooh. Interesting opportunity. I would like to express interest and willingness to play, but I will add I have practically no experience with text, or dice, or table top based RPGs. I tried DnD once with a few friends who were relatively inexperienced and it was a complete and total failure. (never got past character creation). If this is a nice introductory level game, I would love to play and try my hand at RP based games. But if there is a decent curve for players in the game, or if it's probably better for anybody who has actual experience with the game, I'd probably have to pass. I want to (eventually) buy the table top MAG and have fun with that, but right now I don't know exactly what it all entails so I'm not sure how well I could play, at the moment.
