  1. Steven Erikson: Every character given a name would have at least one point of view section, in which he/she would go on for five pages questioning the purpose of his/her existence. Also, the Heralds would have been gone for 300,000 years instead of 4,500. And almost everyone who dies would come back, except for the ones you want to return. How true.
  2. (Emphasis mine.) I don't think that group of three works; understanding is that Honorblades are totally different from Shard/sprenbaldes. Didn't the book say that the sprenblades modeled themselves after the Honorblades? Plus the fact that we know the Heralds summoned their Honorblades. I feel like they wouldn't use them like that if they alive like living sprenblades. I could he wrong, though. I haven't exactly researched how the Blades worked in the Prelude to the series and in Dalinar's visions. (Blades are not my specialty...)
  3. And once again they have gone totally nuts today. Edit: And now they're addressing their posts directly to the 17th Shard!
  4. I don't know if the number actually changed; often the page count given prerelease is simply not accurate. For example, Words of Radiance was listed as 600 pages for quite a while, but the final book was 1088. But until now I don't think we had any reason to believe the previous given count for Firefight was inaccurate other than how much shorter that would make it than Steelheart. YA series tend to have a pretty consistent page count throughout, but it would not have been impossible for Firefight to be that short. Regardless, I am glad it is not. Of course, it may be the same length as Steelheart and have some extra content at the end, but no matter what I am happy now. As small as 432 is for a Cosmere novel, I certainly don't mind it for one of Brandon's YA books.
  5. I buy ebooks if the book is expensive or relatively short and not an author I really like.
  6. So Pat did the Ice Bucket Challence. And, of course, he rocked it with a Rothfussian twist.
  7. So the Werthead made a report on the WoT-centric panel he moderated at WorldCon. I am not officially really excited for the Wheel of Time Companion book. 350,000 words!?!?!?!?!?!? Heck yes! (Don't read the report if you haven't finished the series.)
  8. Pretty much every non-American paperback edition of TWoK is split into at least two volumes; some translations are even more.
  9. You know, BK, you are like a Malazan evangelist or something.
  10. Well, luckily, the official page count has gone up. Till now, Amazon listed 304 pages or something like that, and I was worried; now it says 432, about which I am very happy.
  11. 141 days, to be exact (including today, as it is morning still for me). And I am EST, which I believe is the official release time for Kindles, etc. Though I could be wrong.
  12. Although, if you consider Egwene, Nynaeve, and Elayne main characters as well (which I do), there is one more book missing a main character.
  13. Marsh is the mysterious figure known as Ironeyes. Spoilers for the end of the book (tagged because I'm not sure TousenShadowForged has finished yet):
  14. Don't remind me how long the wait is!
  15. Plus it has one of the best titles in the series. And it made somewhat sense to the story, unlike a lot of the later titles.
  16. When you fail to see how that is at all unusual.

  18. Honestly, how long before Team Sanderson gives in and just gives it to us?
  19. The Way of Kings is very much a set-up book, which is what you'd expect from the first book in a planned ten-volume serial epic fantasy story. I definitely find that it picks up in the second half, which I would assume corresponds to your part 2. Trust me, if you bear with it, you are in for a treat towards the end. Shallan's story doesn't really "pick up", per se, but it stops about 2/3 through and picks up with a few fascinating chapters at the very end. Both Kaladin's and Dalinar's stories get more engaging in the second half, and the book builds up to the requisite Sanderson Avalanche.
