Theory: Dalinar & Nightblood (spoilers)
GreyPilgrim replied to TheBrian's topic in Stormlight Archive
Well, Dalinar definitely doesn't want a regular Shardblade; as strong as he is, the screaming would be too much for even him, I'm betting. And honestly, the Stormfather is too much of a jerk for him to be awesome enough to become a Sword of Doom. Not gonna happen. If would be cool, though. I agree with EMTrevor that Nightblood would he fine for Dalinar. I think the real issue with Shardblades is the screaming, and though Nightblood is definitely more like an Honorblade, not being made of a dead spren and having an Intent. I have a mini theory about that, that Honorblades have their own Intents. -
He also appears in The Well of Ascension, as the leader of the Terrismen Elend and Spook meet. This quote pretty much kills any doubt that they are different Hoids: So yeah, while there could conceivably be multiple Hoids running around, I really don't think that is the case.

In all honesty, much as it is cool for us to get little stories like Bast's and The Slow Regard of Silent Things, I wish Patrick would just focus on Doors of Stone. At this rate, it is going to be longer between the release of NotW and WMF before DoS comes out! And DoS is supposed to be significantly shorter than WMF. He doesn't need all these distractions, no matter how good they are. That said, I will gladly fork over the 12 bucks for the Kindle version of Rogues. And however much it is for TSRoST.

Zahel/Vasher and nightblood
GreyPilgrim replied to Sylphrena-Stormborn's topic in Stormlight Archive
Well, we have no idea what will occur in Nightblood. It is conceivable that she could Return or otherwise achieve immortality/prolonged life in it. Though I would personally be kind of annoyed/disappointed if such were to occur. -
Going off of Hoid's appearance gives us nothing, as he can Lightweave a different appearance if he so chooses. I see no reason to believe informant Hoid is not the Hoid we regularly see. Going to meet and talk to a person as imports t as Kelsier is exactly something Hoid would do, and the slight personality differences exhibited when we see him in TFE could easily he because he is playing a different role than he often does, as he is usually a storyteller or joker of some sort.

Long Game 6: Daes Dae'Mar, The Great Game
GreyPilgrim replied to Gamma Fiend's topic in Sanderson Elimination
I agree with the need for a coordinated effort. What to people think about discussion the Dragon's Fang publically so that the Vanilla players make somewhat of a more calculated group decision as opposed to a personal belief. I worry however that discussing it publically would be an easy way for the Darkfriends to try to get an extra vote against a Villager. Thoughts?- 503 replies

Long Game 6: Daes Dae'Mar, The Great Game
GreyPilgrim replied to Gamma Fiend's topic in Sanderson Elimination
It was always pleasantly surprising to wake up in one's own bed. Much better than an alley or a ditch. Grimlar even remembered all of the details of the previous night! He must be improving. Perhaps today would be the day he went without drink. The inn wouldn't be open, anyways. Perfect. Poor Gade, though. And, of course, another murder had been attempted. Yet somehow Waes had survived. Grimlar wasn't really surprised someone had gone for the cobbler, who had drawn a lot of attention to himself during the night. The speculation flew, nearly everyone providing his or her opinion on how Waes had survived. But only one thing was sure: No matter how good his shoes were, Waes would not be surviving another attack. The stress of the whole situation was nearly unbearable. All this, and they hadn't even seen a Trolloc yet. Grimlar felt the need for something to help him get through this. Right on time, he saw the inn reopened by Khamsi, the gleewoman. Douza: I'm a little thrown off by the way you threw your vote in randomly like that. Unless I am.missing the connection and just being dense, your vote does not seem to follow very logically from what you said in the rest of the paragraph. And what type of "balance" are you looking for? Your lack of explanation specifically for the vote is a bit strange. However, I am going to vote for Jim Bob Dirt. My reason: Primarily, his inactivity. He has only made two posts related to this game in any way, and both were pre-game. However, he has been somewhat active on the site. Others have provided the same reasoning against Lam. I am less trustworthy of Jim because of his patterns of activity in past games. Usually he is not the most active player, but he averages at least a post per cycle, and usually a couple. I find his being so inactive this game without any explanation very suspicious. If the Forsaken is inactive, I believe him a better bet. Still Douza: I disagree about DF Dreamwalkers. First of all, having PMs is useful to Team Evil. It is a great way for them to try to gain extra trust from Villagers. Even though PMs allow the Villagers to conspire without the DFs knowing, they are still useful to them. Plus, use of a lot of PMs can be seen as suspicious. If a Villager does so, it can draw suspicion on them, helping the DFs. Also, a DF Dreamwalker allows them to throw off what the other says and undermine one of the Villagers' avenues of information. Leas Fel: I must disagree with your rationale on distribution of DFs. Just because there is an additional faction doesn't mean that there should be fewer DFs. The game is not built around how many enemies the Villagers should have. Everyone is working against two other groups, at least if Fain does actually use his role. The Villagers have two enemies who are also working against one another. The game is actually too much in the Villagers' favor if there are only 3-4 DFs. There may be 4, but I doubt it. I hold to my reasoning in my previous post in this thread.- 503 replies

Wow. I had forgotten I even made this thread. I think this might be one of the longest times between posting and reply ever. WoT definitely has some great opening and closing lines. I overall liked the books in the series that ended in a sort of narration about the effects of the climax of the novel. That occurs in books 2, 6, 7, 8, and 9 IIRC.

Long Game 6: Daes Dae'Mar, The Great Game
GreyPilgrim replied to Gamma Fiend's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Ok. So, possibilities on Waes: 1. He is Aiel-blooded. 2. The/a Wisdom/s anticipated a potential Night Kill so saved him. 3. The/a Channeler/s used Air to so the same. (Appears not to have happened as it would have been revealed.) 4. He is a Channeler and used Earth on himself. In order for there to have been a Wounded Gazelle gambit, there would have to be any of those three roles among the DFs, Waes possibly being Aiel-blooded. I am assuming there are five DFs, including the Forsaken, based on the 1/5 precedent of past games. I also assume that there is at least one Vanilla DF, statistically speaking, and the Forsaken has no role. I agree that one of the Dreamwalkers is a DF as well. That leaves us two more with Roles, if of course Waes has no role. I am disinclined to believe there is a Channeler among the evil, as having the extra Night Kill ability, even if it is only once a game, seems gratuitous, and it is a hard role to identify. This could still be the case, however. I am more inclined to believe either Waes is Aiel or there is a Wisdom. I would say that overall it is fairly unlikely that the DFs would try something so risky, as it narrows their abilities significantly. So I'm nixing the Gazelle. Overall, I find it unlikely anyone saved Waes. Plus, the OP of the game says Air would have been revealed in the write-up. So that's actually not even a possibility, I now realize, unless I misread the post and it will only be revealed that someone was saved by Air, not that it was used. But I don't think that is what was meant. Clarification would be nice. So my money goes on Waes's being either Aiel-blooded or saving himself.- 503 replies

Excellent write up, Gamma! Very interesting. Unfortunately, in trying to up vote it, I accidentally down voted it. I guess that's what I get for trying to up vote on mobile. I'm sure the down vote will be corrected many times over, but sorry anyways.- 503 replies

Long Game 6: Daes Dae'Mar, The Great Game
GreyPilgrim replied to Gamma Fiend's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Grimlar was wrenched back into consciousness by the shrill cry of a raven. Looking around, he found himself in an alley. He had little recollection of anything after going into the inn. He must have gotten drunk pretty quickly. Well, at least he hadn't pissed himself this time. No vomit, even! An improvement! When he exited the alley, he made his way over to one of the other villagers. He was informed of the lynching. "What?" he exclaimed. How did things go this far so quickly? He was even more stunned to find that he had been called out for lynching himself, and by the new Town Mayor! Light, it had not been a good day. Quickly he sought an audience with the new mayor. He had things to discuss. As he made his way over, he heard that raven calling down again. A servant of the Dark One? Whether it was or not, Grimlar knew the Lord of Evil's eyes were upon Drell's Crossing. Creator help us. Well, I see I missed quite a bit. I too thought the day didn't end till several hours from now. Oops. Unfortunately, you can no longer see, but I was off the site for about 18 hours total before coming back on, and by then this thread had been posted. That should explain any contradictions anyone may find, since I advocated lynching on Day 1. I would have been making my vote right now, had I not been mistaken. To respond foremost to the arguments made against me by Witless, I shall copy. I beg to differ. The lynch does give us a great deal of information. Now that we know Gade was a Villager, we can begin to try to make connections based on what people said about him and how they responded to what he said. The information does indeed come from the discussion itself, but we can gain much more meaning out of it after a lynching. It is unfortunate to lose a valuable player so soon, but at the very least nothing potentially goes to the enemies from the death of a Villager. Though I doubt Gamma will choose to confirm this, I received my role at 7:04 MDT, eight minutes after I made that post about lynching Day 1. Therefore, that post was as innocent as can be. Of course, you can choose to doubt that, but the timing makes sense to me based on when you got your role and when Gamma said he was finished distributing them. I decided to change my strategy for this game to a more offensive role. I have been very conservative in the past with lynching, at least after lynching somewhat at random in Game 4 (and eventually being lynched because of that). Game 5 I tried to step it back a bit, but I don't think that worked well either. So I will in this game try to find a balance, voting as much as I can as reasonably as I can. Yes, it is difficult to vote reasonably on Day 1, but I feel I had and have a good reason to go for it. Again, the only reason I didn't vote is that I was mistaken about the time I had to do so. Interesting strategy, Waes. May I ask, how can you say that a few players will pretty quickly be able to identify if you have been corrupted? The only role that can find out alignment is Viewer, and I would be surprised if there were more than two or three of those. Therefore, in order for a few to identify your Corruption, all Viewers would have to View you on Night 2, which I can't foresee happening, unless of course they all do so after your post. Which I also doubt.- 503 replies

Long Game 6: Daes Dae'Mar, The Great Game
GreyPilgrim replied to Gamma Fiend's topic in Sanderson Elimination
I'm going to have to agree with Awesomeness here on lynching today. In these games, information is everything. The most conclusive information gained is through lynchings. Much of the information possibly gained is useless if no one is lynched. in addition, in this game, we have 25 players. The usual percentage of Eliminators is 20%, plus we have Padan Fain. Ergo, the chance of someone you vote for being an enemy is 1 in 4. That is actually a pretty good chance. Also, assuming Fain is active and Corrupts one player every night, the chances of getting an enemy increase significantly with every day. Yes, it sucks for the person lynched on the first day. But it is necessary. If you want to win, we need to lynch.- 503 replies

Long Game 6: Daes Dae'Mar, The Great Game
GreyPilgrim replied to Gamma Fiend's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Well, that hadn't gone well. Both Grimlar's day and his attempts to abstain from the lure of alcohol had both begun inauspiciously when he had awoken in the forests on the outskirts of Drell's Crossing, clothes soaked in his own piss and dripping with vomit. The stench seared his nostrils, and as he tried to pry himself from the ground, he merely slipped on the piss-mud that had been his mattress for the night. Well, every day was a new day, he guessed. Arriving back in town had merely worsened today's prospects, however. Finding pieces of the mayor scattered all throughout the town was never a good thing, Grimlar reckoned. Talk Darkfriends and murderers was no better. And, was people would, discussion of a new mayor had already commenced! On the heels of a murder, for Creator's sake. Light, but could people have any patience? How could anyone be trusted at this time? Well, at least no one was looking at him oddly today. A quick dip in the river had cast most of the puke and piss smells from his clothes, and who cared for a drunk when there was blood and guts to be cleaned? Clean as he had made himself in the Erinin, however, Grimlar couldn't shake the feeling of dirt on his body. There was a stench to the air in Drell's Crossing, blood on everyone's hands as far as all were concerned. Grimlar decided to sit and watch the proceedings for now. Light, but a drink would be mice right now. And Gade's inn was right there... Maybe abstinence could wait a day longer. Wow, amazing write up, Gamma! I have always loved your RPs, so I am excited to see more write ups like this! Keep it coming! Quick question: If a Darkfriend is Corrupted by Fain and then killed, will he/she be revealed as both in the write up?- 503 replies

Viola, and the bass guitar. -
Wow. I thought from the title of the thread that this would be kind of silly. I mean, "The Knights Absorbent"? Really? Then I opened it and began reading. Well, I thought, this is starting out like most of Tempus's theories do. A centered title, sections. Cool. I read on, thinking, As usual with Tempus, this displays impeccable logic. Cool. An insightful take on some aspect of Brandon's work. Awesome. Diagrams. Epic. I wonder where this is going? Then I got to the phrase "cardboard tube sword". Excuse me? thought I. Then I read on. And cracked up.

If no one minds, I would prefer the write-up wait till some time tomorrow, since I will not be able to get on to really do anything till late in the day tomorrow and don't want to have a lot of catching up to do. But if everyone else wants to start ASAP, then by all means.- 503 replies
