Ok, while reading Wit's story the explanation he gives on where he heard the story caught my attention. Coincidence? The description of the Innkeeper sounds like Kote (Kvothe) from Rothfuss's Name of the wind
-
Now that you mention it, yes this too is part of the dump in new people, the effect I think of the year in-between except for The Stump, we do not get to see these people pop up as a name here or there, with introductions to them, so the Adolin learning about them felt more forced.

I think T-odium may have out-witted Wit with the memory erase, as T-Odium is more subtle and sneaky than R-Odium, but I am not so sure that Wit was totally "unsuccessful" in what he was doing. So were the memories stored in the breath real? or something Hoid wanted him to think were real?
-
It was a great way to show it, but I wonder too if it's all that we see. I think Hoid was outplayed and did not plan on the differences of vessels, so lost memory of the encounter to protect T-Vessel, but Hoid is tricky and it does seem like a rash and sloppy move by him. The bit with the coins and slight of hand, and talk of stories though gives me a hint that he may have after all hidden miss-information for Odium to find.

I agree with this and Venli was the goal, I think it is more that it would not work if the shard vessel had not changed, as Rayse/Odium would have wiped out Venli, Leshwi ... in that case Urithiu would have been a safer place for all of them. I will see how I feel after a re-read, I just have some feelings of things feeling off, this is actually the first time with not only any SA but any of Sanderson's works (other than graphic novels which I do not like) where I put the book down, and also do not have the same "How will I wait 3 years to find out!" panic. I really lost some interest in the series as a whole with this book.

This was my general feeling also, while much of the plot was good, some chapters or scenes were fantastic. The additional Cosmere info dumps were cool to find out, but the fact that so many of them were obvious dumps and the plots and stories felt more like Cosmere set ups than SA. I think it harmed the book more than added mystery to it. Raboniel was great, Leshwi was ok but this should have been Venli's growth, though she had some it was still flat, The fact that I could be engaged and care about a new character like Raboniel much more than Venli the flashback character we have had for multiple books just makes it more apparent. Navani's radiant journey was really well done, and though we have only seen bits of her earlier struggles it all fit, the outcome was kind of expected but the path was a great twist. Raboniel was a perfect counter to both shared grief, connection of mothers and intellectual respect. I was rooting for Dabbid or Rlain to bond the sibling too. I also can not believe I never made the connection to Ur. and the Ziggurat of Ur It's a twist, and I guess it does make the "big bad evil" more of a threat, but not sure how I feel about Taravangian ascending, I have always been ambivalent about him as a character. I guess I will need to go re-read his POV's and chapters he is in, as I found myself not caring and skimming them in the books. -- Again this and the Hoid epilogue feel more like unneeded Cosmere set up. Overall liked the Kal story arc, having depression/anxiety in my family and something I have struggled with at times, though not on a daily basis, this felt like finally real progress and growth for him, loved the level up sequence Felt that the Shallon and Adolin/Maya arc though it felt pushed at times(like too much was edited) was still a good side arc. I missed Rock, Lopen and some of the other side humor like from Lift. While I really liked the Lift - Chicken scenes, again I wanted more of the characters I am invested in and less of the new, the fact that we get no scenes of Lift imprisoned and her interactions with Mraize was disappointing. I really liked the Rlain story arc, his scenes with Venli were great. Wishing more of the listeners, former Parshmen had also stayed in Urithiu, Raboniel dying and all but Rlain leaving just feels off. I get that Brandon is trying not to have the books get bloated with too many characters, plots and scope creep, but in trying not to do that we get lame reasons or random head off somewhere for a while excuses. This is as annoying as authors who put in a romance, or random character just to move a plot point that then disappears, while I know with Sanderson they will probably pop back up later or in some book (or other series) it did not work as well in this book.

Is it just me or other than his lying, does patterns dialogue sound "off" or different?

Who will be the main interlude viewpoint?

eh, Taravangian makes sense, but I had hoped it would be someone else, his POV's have never held much interest for me. -
Yep, we have the Ch. 36 WoK epigraph mentioning the Dawnshard known to bind all creatures voidish or mortal. Unite, Bind, Connect it's a word like that. I agree Dalinar must be tied into a Dawnshard in some way, but not actually one in the straightforward sense. Much like he is kind of Honor enough to briefly form the perpendicularity, but he isn't actually a Shard vessel fulltime. We know that Honor mentions that the Dawnshards would help but that they were "lost". I am thinking less that Honor did not know where they may be, but that they were lost to the inhabitants. So from what we assume or know the dawnshards - "commands" can be taken up by a person, or in an object? I think then that the "unite" dawnshard pertaining to Dalinar there are a few possibilities. First that the sword Oathbringer holds the Dawnshard for Unite. Second and I think more possible is that Honor before he died gave the command, Dawnshard to the Stormfather. We know from the Stormfather that he was changed to something that was more than just a storm, The visions to Unite he was commanded to give. Or maybe, the Storm has always been the Dawnshard, he must continue, there is something of a command in how he explains his existence and inability to not "stop" the storms, that his very existence connects the nations to stormlight.

I noticed this. It is very odd, something is up. masked? Swallowed a gem? Odium working through him?

Lift does not always follow what others tell her, and shows up where not expected, if she want to go I think she will.

I agree much could have been, defenses also could have been changed by the Radiant's, and also we know the Sibling had been withdrawing and much of the unfinished or closed up rooms may have been from that time too.

I took Zahel's comment to mean that Roshar is old, older than the shattering, and his world, but not older than where the fossil came from, though it might be old enough for fossils. Natural forming gemstones would require geological activity not just time, there are mountains and craters but they were formed by "gods" or battles and surges, so unless there was intent to create gemstones in the rock there may not be any. Same with fossils they would be under layers of crem, and would need to be in areas that have not been soulcast / transformed by intent.

I am REALLY REALLY hopping that they sunk it at a particular place as a security measure as opposed to just dumping it like idiots. Dawnshard Speculation
-
Not inexperienced either. I think that it can be either. My baby is 25 and still often in dreams I see myself as pregnant!
-
Not until it happens, and then yes, and for the years you are having children, sometimes not being pregnant, (or nursing) feels odd.
-
No, in many ways they have achieved the highest level, they are sustained, fed by their "god" and they have the ultimate power. What they have given up is bodily pleasures, and "earthly" or in this case Rosharan cares, if you look at many of the worlds religions this is the highest level of godly devotion.
-
I think this is sound, from what little we know, the timeline for the Sibling appears more like what we know of Syl, when Kaladin was struggling and near to breaking oaths she was withdrawing, and after her first bond broke she Slept. If Meleshi was contemplating things that would break his oath, and or moving in a direction in conflict, the Sibling would be withdrawing, and when Meleshi "died" or broke his bond the sibling went to "sleep".

The issue is they are not really sacrificing, the body they take over is sacrificed.
