  1. Despite really enjoying strategy games like EU I actually don't play that many of them, might have something to do with how much time I have available idk. I tend to gravitate towards arpgs. But I'll share what I know that might interest you Legend of Grimrock might be worth a shot. It is an enjoyable old-school style dungeon-crawling rpg. It isn't actually turnbased but is quite enjoyable. Dragon Age Oigins. If you haven't played this I recommend giving it a try. The story and characters are good and the combat is quite tactical. The combat is in real-time but you can pause to give instructions at any time, and on the harder difficulties you really need to, turning it into a quasi-tbs at times. In terms of games that are more strategy focused than rpg focused I would recommend: -Hero's of might and magic (the third is the best IMO), enjoyable fantasy strategy game with strategic and tactical gameplay and some rpg elements. -Sword of the stars is a good 4x game, or you could go to masters of orion or one of the many other older ones =) -Master of magic or Warlock Master of the arcane are both good fantasy strategy games Disgea & Fire Emblem. I haven't personally played much of either as I lack an appropriate device for doing so . However, the little I have was enjoyable and I do know a bit about them from friends. trpgs in a somewhat similar vein to FFT. (Shadowrun looks good but I am yet to play it so can't give a definitive recommendation on it.) In terms of more actiony stuff if you have any interest in arpg's I would recommend the witcher series and the mass effect trilogy as exemplary arpg's. I'll also throw out the names of a couple of board games: -Agricola -Thunderstone -Dominion -Ticket to ride -Star Fleet Battles Hopefully there is something in all that that you haven't played which strikes your interest.
  2. Kurkistan (heh heh, grabbed the easy one, gl to whoever is next )
  3. [start a thread, get first reply over a month later, ok ] I have enemy within as well. I like it as a whole, I found the first couple of exalt missions somewhat challenging, the first one with exalt elites was also interesting but apart from that they were rather easy. Personally I only push for the meld when it is reasonably safe to do so, my soldiers are far more important too me I tend to use 1 mec and genemod everyone else as I get the meld to do so. I find it useful to have one mec upfront to soak up damage, given that a properly upgraded mec can have 27 health 0_o and situational damage reduction. I found that Enemy Within makes the early game harder, but does nothing to stop the problem of a ridiculously easy mid-late game, might possibly have made it worse. (This is on Classic incidentally). Are you in the 17th shard steam group?
  4. Ok, late to the party but present. Happy belated Birthday Peter =)
  5. One of my favourite that hasn't been specifically mentioned so far: "The purpose of a story-teller is not to tell you how to think, but to give you questions to think upon. Too often, we forget that." [Hoid, the Way of Kings]
  6. Most important thing first. I would figure out how to let other people tap my metalminds, compound huge amounts of bronze (wakefulness) and give it to my family members who have chronic fatigue syndrome. Following that I guess I'd do the basic stuff: conquer my fear of heights, figure out all the ins and outs of allomancy/feruchemy, visit brandon and you know, be generally awesome
  7. Seriously? That's what you pick out? It's like none of you even noticed invisible kid....oh, right...nevermind. More on topic, I don't really remember how much it surprised me honestly, a friend had talked to me about it a couple of years before but I barely remembered that. I guess I didn't see it coming but wasn't surprised by it if that makes sense.
  8. @Kurkistan Thankyou. You have no idea how long that has been bothering me, it never seemed to quite make sense.
  9. IGNORE THIS POST The only thing accurate in it is the quote. Just for your information, we can be fairly certain that it was 3 hours once every 3 days at that time. It likely would have been much less frequent earlier in his rule. The Final Empire early chapter 14 And when Vin breaks into the room she finds him there, storing atium.
  10. Thankyou for recording/transcribing that =) A force determining how Adonalsium shattered is the biggest by far from this lot, I mean, 0_o. Not hugely *surprising* as such (I could see it being either way), but very interesting to know.
  11. I think you could use the colour from the hair without worries. However you would still need a reasonable amount of breaths. The specific number would depend on how good a command you came up with. Not really relevant but I think a command like "hold things" would actually be cheaper in terms of breath in this situation, "choke" is a little more abstract.
  12. A couple of fun examples from my roleplaying groups. -A mistborn while infiltrating a manor, knowing that there were guards coming, pushed a pot off a bench in a kitchen elsewhere in the manor, making quite a bit of noise and luring away the guards. -Keeper bomb. They were attacking a barge convoy and they decided to have the mistborn pick up the keeper, steeljump over a barge and drop him. The keeper then tapped large quantities of weight. It was very effective and rather entertaining.
  13. I would hazard a guess that there is some difference in how easy they are to control based on the type of spikes. I think that iron spikes (steal human strength) that Koloss have are potentially worse than a lot of others given the relative ease with which koloss are controlled.
  14. True, that is a possibility. I don't think it is the case, but it is possible. A note though, it would be fairly strange if Demoux turned out to be a mistborn at that point when he experienced the exact same degree of mist-sickness as all his men, who were all seers. Here's the duralumin/atium quote for you.
  15. Point taken. I'll agree that Regrowth classifies as healing magic and could probably heal a shardblade wound.
  16. Ok, so I was reading your post right to start with, I just thought I wasn't. As Kurkistan just pointed out preventing seekers from seeking inside a coppercloud is definitely the default situation. It is perhaps possible that a very experienced smoker could find a way to exclude a seeker from being smoked though I don't personally think this is the case.
  17. I'm not sure. Maybe I'm just being thick. So you are saying that preventing anyone within the cloud from seeking would be a possible technique but very difficult, just like blocking emotional allomancy for everyone in the cloud is?
  18. Not quite sure what you are trying to say here. The wording suggests that you are saying that blocking seekers with a coppercloud is difficult. Which doesn't make any sense, so clearly I am misunderstanding what you are trying to say Inquisitors would work, but, there is no way they would be used. There were around 20 inquisitors in the final empire with around half in Luthadel at any time, that isn't nearly enough to fill all the soothing stations. Especially as the inquisitors need a lot of rest, you would need 3 inquisitors to one soothing station to have one there seeking constantly and beyond that thare simply far too valuable to be wasted on duty at soothing stations. Aside from that, there was a lot of tension between the obligators and the inquisitors, unless ordered to by the lord Ruler (who didn't care about day to day management) they would not be helping out with the obligator run soothing stations. One other note, Marsh did duty at a soothing station at least once before he became an inquisitor, so they plainly use normal seekers. He also would no doubt have mentioned if they used inquisitors.
  19. They're on to us! Quick! Begin the takeover! Seriously though, welcome to the forums VanquisherR
  20. Welcome to the forums Araris! Look forward to hearing your theories
  21. The soothing station thing has been bugging me for a long time now. Until we get confirmation otherwise I'm going to keep guessing that the seeker only seeks on and off, ducking out of the coppercloud. Alternatively, a better idea would be if they stayed just outside the coppercloud normally and only ducked in if they sensed another seeker (or just stopped burning). Think about it this way: A skaa seeker who detects another seeker is not going to investigate it, they are most likely going to panic and leave the area as soon as possible which would aid with the soothing stations not getting detected. However in the long run you would still think they would eventually be detected. Another important note though. I highly doubt that the seeking stations have been around anywhere even beginning to approach 1000 years. Firstly from a genetics point of view, it wouldn't be until at least a couple of centuries into the final empire that allomancy had spread from the original allomancers enough for something like this to even begin to be viable. This is largely irrelevant though as I strongly suspect that the soothing stations have existed at most around 200 years. In the final empire one of the books Elend has mentions that the plantation system had only been around for 200 years at the time of its writing, which would be under 100 years, likely 50 or less. Anyway, there is also mention at some point that the lord Ruler found the system troubling because of the freedom it gave the nobility and that he had also drastically increased obligator enforcement at the time to cater this. I think that before this point the ministry would not have had the resources/allomancers to run the soothing stations. So that puts a time limit of around 200 years as a maximum for how long the soothing stations had been around, it is entirely possible that they had been around for much less. This makes the soothing stations being undiscovered more plausible, though still potentially a bit of a stretch, depending on the actual time, if the seeker was outside the cloud.
  22. Good luck
  23. Well mine was nearly half an hour. I do find it entertaining that I ninja'd you on quoting you
  24. Interesting, it sounds theoretically possible, though i agree that a shardblade would be rather unwieldy. Just a note: Feruchemical gold can heal shardblade injuries. Basic stormlight healing like Kal has cannot and I think regrowth probably can't, not certain about regrowth though. http://theoryland.com/intvmain.php?i=979#166
