What is inside Shallan's father's safe
Duskshard replied to Kaladin Kal's topic in Stormlight Archive
Maybe a set of shardplate that glowed like that of the KR. Maybe she saw someone (her father?) dressed in it killing those people in the other room, and after he took it of and stored it away in his lockbox. That could also tie in with the shardbearer that Kaladin killed who's plate glowed like that of the KR being Shallans brother. -
Judging by the quote from Shallan below, I would say that spheres (at least some denomination of sphere) last a good bit more that 4 days. To get a rough idea of how long her spheres held the stormlight we need to get a rough idea of how often highstorms occur. Do we have an answer for that? I don't believe that they've experienced 2 highstorms in only 4 days, that just doesn't seem likely to me.

If choosing just between Kal and Szeth, I'll like to see it from Kal's POV. I also think this is more likely because the confrontation is more likely to happen in the main part of the book rather than the interludes, which is where I think we'll read Szeth's POV chapter(s) So how I'd like it to go is Kal fights Szeth from his POV in the last chapter of one of the parts of the book. Then it goes the interludes where we see Szeth looking back on the confrontation from his POV.

Notes from my reread of Shallans chapter. Shallan blames herself. (for her mothers death/murder? for all the deaths?) Her father wipes blood from her cheek. (She was close enough to at least one of the bloody bodies to get blood on her face) She's frozen in shock at whatevers just happened He say "pretend it never happened" "I'll protect you" (Implying that she's done something wrong and needs her fathers protection? Would her father be so understanding if she'd just murdered his wife, Shallans mother?) She considers herself a monster, one who killed, murdered. Implying what she did wasn't in self defence?, or in defence of her mother? Maybe that's just a child's innocent view of what she has done, that killing anyone for any reason would make her a monster? Could there have been 3 dead bodies? The first body Shallan describes to herself as a woman in white. who had a little blood on her, but not no blood. (the way she describes her seems detached, like she doesn't know her) The second the man, the one who most of the blood came from. (Also detached, someone else unknown to her?) Then she refers to the Mother laying facedown (A more personal connection to the body on the ground, possibly not the same one as the woman in white?) Horrible eyes. Burn out eyes? Killed by shardblade? Possibly 2 killed by conventional means, 1 killed by shardblade? The strong box She sees whatever's in there as a monster as well. Maybe the weapon she used to kill/murder? A shardblade? if so why would it be glowing? Why wouldn't it of disappeared? Honorblade maybe? Could whatever's in there have any connection to the lullaby her father sang? “Now go to sleep in chasms deep, with darkness all around you… Though rock and dread may be your bed, so sleep my baby dear. Now comes the storm, but you’ll be warm, the wind will rock your basket… The crystals fine will glow sublime, so sleep my baby dear. And with a song, it won’t be long, you’ll sleep my baby dear.” End notes: -No weapons or anything are indicated that could of caused such bloodshed. -How long had passed between the start of the scene and the killings taking place? -Was her father a witness to what happened? Did he arrive after it have happened? So many questions from such a short chapter.

He's not Szeth, he's described as a 6' tall hulk of a man. Szeth is described as being small, so I'm sure the new kid isn't him. That's not to say that Szeth couldn't of smuggled himself on board and hid himself with the cargo. Personally I don't think he's on the ship, I don't think he would of liked his chances of discovery with Jasnah on board. --- What I want to happen now is for an announcement to be made that as a surprise, the release date has been moved up to tomorrow and anyone that has pre-ordered a copy has already had theirs dispatched. That's realistic right? Ah, one can dream.

Honorblades give people the power to surgebind.
Duskshard replied to Scrutiny's topic in Stormlight Archive
Maybe Darkness and the nervous guy were the previous holders of his oathstone and they gave him to the Listeners for the purpose of killing the King. Maybe that was what was being referred to here.- 43 replies

Who will be Kaladin's surgebinding practice partner?
Duskshard replied to Chlehrma's topic in Stormlight Archive
Kaladin and bridge four are outside their barracks just sitting down to enjoy a meal that Rock has cooked for them while discussing who would be the best sparring partner for Kal. All of a sudden an awesome young girl comes sliding awesomely fast into their midst and schools Kaladin with her awesomeness before sliding back out into the night with Kaladin's stolen dinner. The whole of bridge four have their mouths hanging open in shock at the awesome display of awesomeness they've just witnessed, and realise that they've just found Kal his sparring partner. -
This is what I initially thought, but now I'm thinking that it's just too obvious. Although that could just be a double bluff. EDIT: The more I think about this I don't think that Shen is going to be a spy. Just like the Parshendi escaped the humans and learned new form I think that Shen is going to learn a new form. I'm liking him for Honorform.

Ok, I'm still trying to absorb everything. Shallan chapter was Soooooo teasingly short, I wanted more. - Did Shallan kill her mother? If so what was she doing with a shardblade at that age? - If she killed the man then maybe he was the carrier of the blade? If so then where was it? Did her father claim it? I loved reading more of Kaladin, he's my favorite character in the series, well except for maybe Lift. - This chapter answered one of the questions that I was asking myself this morning (well a similar one) I was thinking that if Kal was fighting Szeth and szeth tried to bind him to something with a full lashing would Kal be ably to absorb that stormlight? Now that we've learned that he can reabsorb stormlight that he's invested into objects I'm inclined to believe that he could absorb stormlight that others have invested in objects. At least until given reason to think otherwise. - I think that Kal going to start distrusting Dalinar more than he does after seeing him so buddy buddy with Amaram. I know others will of already know about Eshonai's interlude but this was my first time reading it and It's given me a new perspective on the Parshendi. - They're not bent on trying to destroy the humans, they're just trying to survive. - I bet whatever Gavilar was going to do that would bring back their gods involved that stone that he gave to Szeth - In 62 days enough of them could learn stormform to call forth a highstorm on the Alethi, maybe the everstorm? Loved Adolin's duel (savage beating) I just wanted to keep reading. I need to go reread it.

Well I know one thing for sure, as soon as those chapters go live I'm dropping whatever I'm doing at the time no matter what it it... Oh wait, isn't predicting the future of Odium. EDIT: I need to control myself, I've clicked that link about 20 times already hoping that this time it going to be there.

You guys are right, I guess I got overly excited. After I posted I continued to reread chapter 9 of WoR and it was the amethyst broom that was giving the water that colour, and tipped Kal of that there was something in there.
-
So reading the pre-released chapters of WoR has wetted my appetite, so I just started to reread TWoK and on page 1 something jumps out at me. Kalak is walking through the battlefield observing all the destruction and the bodies of the dead. Now the red blood is obviously human, it's been a while since I read the book but I'm pretty sure the Orange blood is Parshendi. So what/who dose the Violet blood belong to? In chapter 9 of WoR (Walking the grave) Kaladin takes his newly formed squad down into the chasms to train them. He leaves the group and goes of on his own, eventually ending up kneeling beside a pool of violet water. Could this pool of violet water really be a pool of somethings blood? Are Kaladin and the bridgemen in imminent danger? Is Kaladin about to get a chance to use and possibly discover more of his windrunner abilities, inspiring the new recruits awe in their new found leader?

Here's a WoR Mini Review From a Beta Reader
Duskshard replied to Shardbearer's topic in Stormlight Archive
Well dang, as if it wasn't bad enough waiting for the WoR release already. The second I saw this thread I knew it would only make it worse, so of course I do the only "rational" thing I could do, I read it. Now it's 10 times worse (sigh) no one to blame but myself. I really hope that "NO, I WILL NOT ACCEPT THIS" comment doesn't refer to Jasnah dieing as some have speculated, I really like her character and want to see her developed more. 38 days to go. -
Will Dalinar learn how Kaladin became a slave, in WOR?
Duskshard replied to eveorjoy's topic in Stormlight Archive
What I think will happen (roughly). Dalinar will find out about the history between Kaladin and Amaram and will empathize with Kaladin because of the similarities between what was done to him by Amaram and Dalinar by Sadeas I think Dalinar will persuade Kaladin not to take vengeance on him because he need Amaram's help to unite the Highprinces, just as Dalinar can't afford to be seeking vengeance on Sadeas at the present. Amaram will eventually betray Dalinar (possibly nearly costing him his life) and Kal will kill him for it. (Justice at last) -
I think they'll fight, Szeth will finally meet his match, but kaladin won't kill him. I think he'll be held prisoner instead, away from any stormlight with his hands and arms bound so that he can't summon and wield his blade. That's the only way I can see it going. I don't see Kaladin or Szeth being killed in this book, but I also don't see Szeth being dissuaded from trying to kill Dalinar.

What are you most excited about to see in Words of Radiance
Duskshard replied to Andy50's topic in Stormlight Archive
In no particular order. 1. Finding out more of Shallan's past, how her father died, how she got a Shardblade. 2. The Ghostbloods, who they are, what are there goals and what their connection is to Shallan's family. 3. Kaladin's meeting a subsequent interactions with Amaram, the truth coming to light about where he got his shard plate/blade 4. Shallan meeting Amaram, to see if she recognises the plate that he wears. 5. Jasnah meeting Kaladin, learning that he's another potential KR and seeing how that relationship develops. 6. Kaladin learning his abilities, and hopefully discovering what his second surge ability will be. 7. The evolution of Kaladin's relationship with Dalinar, and the rest of Bridge 4 evolution from bridge slaves to the personal bodyguards to the Kholins and the royal family, and the rest of the bridge crews become a fighting force to be reckoned with. 8. Generally learning more about the other surges and other spren. 9. The Kaladin vs Szeth confrontation. 10. More about Odium and the voidbringers. 11. I want to see more about Taln and what role he'll play now that he's back in the land of the living. 12. To see Dalinar bringing the other highprinces to heel. 13. Kaladin learning the 3 ideal, and Shallan and Jasnah possibly learning the ideals for their orders. 14. More Syl in general, the meeting of Syl and pattern. 15. The next month to pass really really fast. -
