Theory : Santhid is Voidbinding Focus Animal
The Rooster replied to The Rooster's topic in Stormlight Archive
I'm just glad people are talking about this. I thought it was destined for the hell where unreplied Forum topics go. As far as it representing stone it does have an above water carapace (tho almost every animal on Roshar has a carapace, so stone could be quite an ambiguous description). Does anyone have any ideas of what animals the other could represent? Axehound? Larkin ? Chasmfiend? Edit: Aether I don't think that the symbols representing animals is my unique discovery. I mentioned above that others had figured this out. I just named the theory "Voidbinding Focus Animal" because the Santhid drawing is exclusive to the Steelhunt. After WoR comes out I'll probably update the name to include "Santhid".- 16 replies

These are awesome! Plus George Takei!

I got a very Cloud Atlas feel from this story. It reminds me heavily of the last segment of the book that takes place in post apocalyptic Hawaii. Even the death vision remind of the influence of "Ol' Georgie".

Happy Ookla the mokovial! With more 2013 in it!

This is the weirdest thing, I noticed it today and had to search for this post. Happy BD PA! -
WOR finished (OFFICIALLY) - Launch date confirmed

It's up to 70% complete ya'll! -
It's weird that despite the fact that this will be a Shallan centric book he has never read anything other than the one flashback chapter. I'd be happy for a chapter with Shallan and Jasnah sitting on a boat talking philosophy (actually I'd be ecstatic for it)! I'm starving for more content, even after the Steelhunt. I wish there was a way to just turn Stormlight off in my brain for the next 3 months (hey less than 3.5 months till release)! Thinking about it is really driving me nuts.

Parshendi, the return of KR, and humans on Roshar
The Rooster replied to FirstSelector's topic in Stormlight Archive
Good little theory and I'll +1 anyone who mentions my Rosharian Anthropology post. I'm now thinking more that the Parshemen and Parshendi are of Cultivation, but besides that I like what you're throwing down. I don't think the KR are necessarily a bad thing, but I think the timeline of events you proport is just about what I think happened in the deep past. Maybe Odium wants them back because you can't have a desolation without Honor's champions present, so they must return in some form so that it seems like the sides are balanced and the pact is being honored. That would explain Darkness wants to stop anyone from binding.- 22 replies

Seriously, you could read one chapter ever day or every other day and still get caught up for the release of WoR.

Where is the Hell described in the prologue?
The Rooster replied to Swimmingly's topic in Cosmere Discussion
The torture they endure as described by Kalak in the Prelude has always reminded me of Hellraiser. Maybe they go to the realm of the Cenobites? -
I do expect there to eventually be side-effects probably coupled with his rehabilitation after the end of Book 1. However, I think you are all getting the correct and intended reaction to his obvious addiction. Taniel knows he's using too much and in the wrong way, those around him discourage it, but he's so damnation good he can't afford to stop. During the climax of the book when he performs an amazing feat he mentions that he's right on the edge of Powder-Blindness. I think we're meant to feel disturbed by how deluded he is in his addiction. The fact that he's snorting it is meant to evoke cocaine abuse. I think for the first book it was fine to take him to the edge without bogging down the character with the inevitable side effects.

The Rooster replied to Natans's topic in Stormlight Archive
I haven't really been active here as a big Cosmere release has come out. Will the WoR sub-forum continue? Do people post partial spoiler groups? Luckily the Stormlight Archive books are divided by parts so those will be obvious points of dissection. -

Not very Veristitalian at all.

Put the hardcover under your pillow at night.

I don't think anyone really thinks Kaladin is going to get allomantic powers. I love his symbol tho... That's the T-shirt I want most from Brandon's store.

In further books it will be important to see how many others start attracting Honorspren and how quickly those spren come to self realization. If the process seems to be speeding up compared to Syl's journey there may be a distinction between the path even Honorspren take to Nahel bonds. Maybe Syl was special because she crossed over while others were just hanging latent in the Physical Realm or vice-versa.

Where did you get your hardcover Meg, if you don't mind my asking? I bet that mine was a 1st Edition due to getting it from Amazon. They must buy mass quantities of copies direct from the publisher right from the get-go to keep their price points low. I would have thought for their business model they would commit to large quantities in forecasting while ordering physical copies in smaller number as actual sales come in. That's how you make your number look good to shareholders. They must a different business model. If anyone else has a hardcover bought recently, where did you get it and what Edition/Printing do you have. I don't know why but this is fascinating me.

Go to the Copyright page. If it's a First Edition it will say "First Edition" then there will be a series of numbers like this. 0 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1 This number sequence for most publishers in the US represents the printings. The last number on the right represents which printing it is. What I have listed above would be a first printing. 0 9 8 7 6 5 This would be a 5th printing.

I know that we are all (obviously) obsessed with The Way of Kings and are crazy looking forward to WoR, but does anyone know how well the book actually did. It's stated on Wikipedia that it debuted #7 on the NYT Best Seller List which to me sounds like a success. I'm asking because I finally bought a Hardcover off of Amazon last month (after already having purchased a paperback to lend out to friends, a nook version and an audiobook off of Audible) and was shocked to see that I received a First Edition, First Printing! Did they just make a butt-load of books, has the book underperformed, did I luck out, or is there a totally rational explanation involving digital sales (with tons of good 1.99 pricing), a quick paperback publication and this being a first edition in a long series. Has anyone else bought a mint condition First Edition WoK recently?

I was pretty eager to no longer be a "Trainee". It took a long time but once that happened I cooled off and have been slowly but surely accruing what I like to call "Leisure Points" those are rep points that you're not fishing for but sure as heck don't hurt.

I read it a few months ago, really loved it. I found it very engaging and it was the kind of novel that drags me along as opposed to me having to put effort into keep going. I was also pleasantly surprised that the Author is from Cleveland, where I live! He's doing a signing at a local Barnes and Noble on this Friday, Nov 22nd and I think I'm going to stop by and buy a copy to support him (since I bought it originally from Audible which I know is tantamount to ripping the author off). I think it's the highest quality of new author I've read all year.
