  1. I hadn't seen the original before going to this one (still haven't!), but we were invited by some family. I didn't really have any expectations--if anything, they were negative. Then the amazing score started playing, and it just? kept? being good?? It's an insanely well-crafted movie, to every detail. I was on the edge of my seat without even realizing it. Now my mother, who loathes the first one and had even lower expectations than I, wants to go see it again in IMAX.
  2. I hope so too! I expect it might turn out similarly to how I feel about the Killers--overall not for me, but with an album or two that I really enjoy. (I've put on Black Holes and Revelations to start and remembered that yes, I do like this album at least!)
  3. I do like Starlight! Maybe I'll finally take the plunge and check the rest of their stuff out.
  4. I've been meaning to reread that one! I love her stuff, but I remember I didn't like it when I first read it (young me didn't appreciate character arcs back then). It wasn't bad, I just wasn't quite satisfied, and I'd like to give it another shot.
  5. Don'tcha just love it when you discover a folder of cruft in your music app to the tune of, oh, around 200GB?

  6. One of the best choirs on Earth, and that organ. Ohhhoho that organ.

Mack Wilberg tends to do "slow burn" arrangements, which I love. They start out whisper-quiet, then by the end the building's coming down.

oh I know, they are amazing, I love their music.

  7. Happened across an old favorite talk of mine by Elder Holland: "Lord, I Believe", from 2013 (just when I was starting to pay attention to Conference). This has been one of my favorites since he gave it, and every once in a while I'll read, listen to, or watch it again. It tends to show back up when I need it the most, and tonight is no exception.
  8. If you've read Mistborn, you should recognize the name. If you've read the annotations, you'd also know that Slowswift is a cameo of none other than one John Ronald Reuel Tolkien--perhaps a touch arrogant on my part, but it sounded cool and I liked the contradictory nature of it.
  9. So it turns out that the reason I've been feeling like absolute crem after work for the past year and a half is because of a storming allergy pill.

Just, you know, one of the things I need to function like a normal human being.

I don't know how to feel about this.

I feel fine, that's what's so strange. But thanks, I hope I stay that way too!

  10. I will never not shill for Collective Soul, but I've been really digging the Killers lately (specifically the album Imploding the Mirage). Kygo, if you want some top-tier electronic. On the other hand, the Lower Lights has you covered for some absolutely fantastic gospel folk. If you don't care what language it's in, then RADWIMPS.
  11. The only radio I ever really listen to is the local classical station. If that's your jam, then classical89.org has you covered!
  12. Well, I actually bought (preordered) it a while back, but the final volume of We Never Learn arrived yesterday! And the best bit is the whole thing fits on one shelf! Took a quick read through the ending again and got a proper dose of feels. I love this series.
  13. That devotional tonight was lovely! Anyone else tune in?
  14. OH FRICK I FORGOT

So, uh, yeah, apparently it's already been nine years. (And fifteen days!) Thanks for keeping me around!

Can time just stop moving please I don't like it

  15. ETA: You're welcome!
  16. To get an accurate read of my mental state at work today, consider that I listened to this album on repeat, completely by accident. I put on the first song, let it play, and just...didn't stop. For four hours.

      TwiLyghtSansSparkles

Well, that's considerably lighter fare than the album I've had on repeat for the past six months.

Well, hey, if you ever need to chat music recommendations to take your mind off existential dread, you know where to find me!

  17. It's entirely possible. I don't know what it is, but most ham I come across just has this...aura around it. Maybe I'd like the home-cooked stuff all right, but the sheer amount of stomach-turning, mass-produced crap there is has kinda put me off the whole concept.
  18. I don't like ham. Bacon, yes. Pulled pork sandwiches, yes. Ham? 19. XD Honestly, the whole pineapple-bashing thing is just a meme to me at this point. I've tried it before and it isn't half bad! No, the real problem with pineapple pizzas is the ham. Ham can go rust in a bucket. ...yeah, okay, that looks nasty.
  20. ...I can't lie, I'd actually be totally down to try that. Same with the banana one Sweden apparently has.
  21. Tidy and informative, ending with a bang. Less one point for being perhaps a little too tidy. 9/10.
  22. Steamed buns: pastries, or little clouds of happiness?

  23. Whatever's wrong with my brain, it's the kind of thing that makes me tab-switch like they're hot coals: I've got two blog posts pulled up that I genuinely want to read, but every time I click the tab, I get two words in before my brain is like "No focus. Want serotonin."

Brain, I'm trying to give you serotonin, if you'd just sit still for five freaking minutes.

  24. Dragon! The red background makes it pop, but there's not enough contrast with the dragon itself. 9/10
