  1. I have a crack theory that the perpendicularity on Dhatri moved to Lumar. Very little actual substance, but there is a WoB that Xisis arriving had something to do with the departure of the Iriali. There's another thread somewhere wondering why and how the Iriali left all at once. The perpendicularity on Dhatri was probably formed from Aether investiture -- we don't have proof, but we know Khriss theorized that Shardless perps are possible, and Aethers have a ton of (purportedly) Shardless investiture, so it stands to reason. What if enough Aetheric investiture fled from Dhatri due to the Dark Aethers to make the perpendicularity move to the next largest bastion of Aethers, Lumar? While we don't know if the Iriali's arrival would coincide with the arrival of the perp, we can assume that an overnight disappearance would necessitate a perpendicularity. Also, Xisis could be studying Aethers on Lumar and ALSO secretly controlling a perp that has access to raw Aether -- and the arrival of a dragon who wants to control the only method of mass exodus might compel the Iriali to depart from Lumar.
  2. I might be crazy, but is it possible that Vathi's Aviar (the one she didn't give to Dusk, the one which I believe wasn't in the original Sixth of the Dusk) gives allomantic Tin? At one point Vathi pulls away from Dusk and Dusk thinks "Damn, I must have been talking too loudly." Allomantic Tin would also explain how a non-trapper could survive even briefly on Patji, and how she could hear that one stream which Dusk said was way to far away to be heard. And she noticed his traps, which Tin would help with. Idk why Dusk wouldn't have commented on her Aviar bond, though.
  3. I seem to remember Sigzil saying "we walked away from our oaths," even though him breaking his oaths was an isolated incident
  4. This has been asked on the 27th Shard a couple times with no answers, as there are no WoBs yet. It's either mistaking Dalinar for Adonalsium, Cultivation being in on killing Tanavast (seems very unlikely now), or Rayse taking credit for Tanavast's death but referring to himself and the Shard as different people.
  5. I have a feeling Whimsy will be antagonistic. A major theme of the series is how power shouldn't be concentrated in one fallible/Intent-driven person, so having a god who is incapable of consistency sounds like a horror show
  6. Unfortunately, the Stormfather himself tells Dalinar that he spoke to Gavilar in WaT. I was on the Storm faker side for a long time, but it has been disproven
  7. I think that -- like the Blackthorn spren -- it's Brandon having his cake and eating it too. The readers WANT to see a fifth ideal Radiant, and it's the fifth book. Someone has leveled up every book. It's clearly time. But Brandon wants to save the true reveal for later on down the line. So he writes that 2-3 Radiants hit the 5th Ideal (imo Shallan hit the 5th, we just couldn't tell in the spiritual realm) but they all do so under circumstances where the changes are invisible until the book ends. Readers get the satisfaction of seeing characters complete their journeys but the real secrets get saved for 10 years later.
  8. So, we know a number of Shard colors at this point. Blue-white for Honor, gold for Odium, green for Cultivation, black and white for Ruin and Preservation respectively, CYM for Virtuosity, etc. What do you think some colors for the remaining shards could be? Endowment: rainbow, for Breath? Otherwise blue-green Autonomy: not gold and red -- red means corrupted, which means it's not part of Autonomy's natural Investiture. Autonomy feels yellow or brown to me Reason: gray or silver Mercy: pink. If not, something very pale/pastel, like lavender Invention: gray, but like blued steel, or else somehow colorless Valor: orange, since it can't be red, or a metallic variation like bronze Whimsy: shouldn't have a set color, but I feel like it will anyway. Rainbow but only jewel tones, or flickering between RGB I think that dead Shards won't get colors, but if they did... Dominion: purple. Color of royalty, and red is already taken. Or else navy Devotion: THIS would be the pink shard Ambition: feels extremely gold to me, but that's done. I really can't pin this one down -- maybe whichever one Autonomy doesn't get
  9. That feels like more of a parent-child relationship. The Sibling says they came from Stone as "part of its legacy," but Stone still exists. I definitely think that Cultivation coopted some of Night's essence, hence the Old Magic, but not that she fully replaced her.
  10. I've been meaning to make a post with my own chart and internal/external as well as pushing/pulling, but I'll drop my thoughts here. See, the Dawn shards are Commands AND Adonalsium'd method of creation. Ado Commander things to Exist, and to Change. Therefore we can assume that all four Dawnshards are fundamental actions that all things in the universe must do. This rules out Create and Destroy as possible Dawnshards. Not everything needs to create -- and also the four Dawnshards together are the act of creation -- and not everything needs to destroy in order to qualify as "existing." So we need to look at what every single thing in the universe does (and for me, it helped to try to break down the Shards themselves into four quadrants, but I won't get into that here). What does everything in the Cosmere do, that not everything in the real world does? They EXPERIENCE themselves -- or FEEL, if that's the word you prefer. All objects have a sense of self, from a stick to a lick of flame. They enjoy being what they are, and if they ever stop enjoying it they utilize another command and change into something else. Soul casting and forgery take advantage of this unique difference between our world and the Cosmere. BIND is a good final Dawnshard, but I think it's a little different than that. One significant aspect of the Cosmere is its set of stringent rules that everything follows -- all things are organized and regulated according to the laws of investiture. Therefore I hold that the last Dawnshard is ORDER: the ability of all creation to create order within themselves and to order themselves according to the world around them. The most notable example of this is how all investiture post-Shattering was assigned to a newborn Shard. Thus far, all magic systems can be plotted out into careful charts, whether they are complex like the Metallic Arts or simple like the Old Magic. The Cosmere is built upon magic as science, and science is just ordered information and explanation. (I think that the WoB which states that one Dawnshard is different from the rest refers to Experience, and it's difference is that it is unique to the cosmere)
  11. My hope is that Radiants can use Warlight but not heal with it. Would make much more dynamic fights if they and their enemies weren't just hitting each other until one side ran out of fuel for both healing and Surges.
  12. Yep, that's definitely Kor the dragon.
  13. There are three big spren that existed on Roshar before Honor and Cultivation showed up, created by Adonalsium: Wind, Night, and Stone. Stone talks to Venli, Wind talks to Kaladin. The Night left. Knights of Wind and Truth is written by Szeth's wife, who is part of Jasnah's "order." This order could be Elsecallers or Veritstitalians, who are the truth seekers and scholars Jasnah communicated with in previous books. The Knight of Wind was Kaladin, and the Knight of Truth was Szeth. There isn't an order called the knights of Wind and Truth. 3. I think the "core" was just the majority of Honor's power, since some of it was out being spren. If Tanavast was referring to the core, it was likely the Intent and power of Honor. 4. Ideally this will force the shards to not be passive. If they're passive, they'll get picked off one by one.
  14. I assumed that Rysn would leave the planet. Otherwise, Odium is eventually going to notice the magical superweapon that exists on his planet, and then poor Ryan is done for.
  15. I agree that the lions have no shot -- they can't even smother the Heralds, since infinite Stormlight means they don't need to breathe. A more interesting question would be whether the Heralds can kill 1B lions within the duration of a highstorm.
  16. He's still got infinite Towerlight! So he's pretty much set for the near future. Retribution is unlikely to give him Warlight, so he's reliant on theft or anonymity if he ever tries to leave the tower. Lift CAN feed him lifelight by infusing spheres with it, but it seems a bit impractical. Also, he just needs to eat one breath a week. Given that he has so many, he'd likely be fine for several years at least even if the Tower failed.
  17. I don't have much to add, but I think you're right. Enlightened ashspren might look like glowing cracks, or they might upraise the surface they travel on like Cryptics, rather than cracking them. Peakspren also might look like human-shaped mounds of dust rather than anything solid.
  18. Glad someone is putting into words how I've been feeling. Characters in previous books act with agency throughout the entirety of the novel, exploring and changing the world around them and interacting with other characters. The Spiritual Realm shenanigans reduced Dalinar and Navani (and once the Ghostbloods vanished, Shallan) to vehicles of world building with no agency. They observe what they're supposed to observe and comment on it and their own personal trauma, but that's the only thing they do for like 7 days. Renarin and Rlain are better because we know less about them and at least their relationship together is developing. I'm especially frustrated because Shallan is my favorite and this is the second book where her entire plotline resolves into basically nothing. RoW promises more to come with the Ghostblood war, but then the Ghostbloods fail to interact with Shallan in a meaningful way from days 3-10. This is also a symptom of how splitting up harmed character interactions this book. The SR characters aside from the romance boys had 0 interesting interactions with each other, with Navani being particularly painful. Sigzil's story was pure combat with no character development save day 10 (this is a recurring theme). Venli's side explores the listener-Fused relationship nicely, but they also hardly interact with the war until the 9th/10th day. Adolin and Kaladin's stories do better because they have more characters that we know or, in Adolin's case, they work very hard to build a cast we care about.
  19. My concern is that without Navani fabrials might not progress much further, they'll just spread out into the niches they already have. We do have Rushu making discoveries but we've always seen that Navani needs to keep her on track Edit: forgot that Vasher is there. Since he seems to finally be taking an active role in things by training Lift, he might be able to be convinced to share his knowledge on fabrials.
  20. Honestly, why is Stormlight better than Dor anyway? Dor is already super widespread on a different world, and they must have supply lines of it because they used a lot during mistborn. Sure it might be dangerous to harvest, but that's speculative bc we've never seen it on screen
  21. It seems to be either Reason or Valor, but probably Reason. Both were hidden from Odium initially. But Harmony was able to speak to Valor, and suggests that Hoid try to do so again. Additionally, Valor's disappearance seems somehow more complete than Reason's or more specialized toward Odium, since Taravangian was never able to locate her. Since Harmony (and maybe Hoid) are unable to find Reason, it stands to reason (ha) that it is the survival shard.
  22. Well, its not specified whether the order referenced is Elsecallers or Veritstitalian. Also, radiants can most easily practice their powers at the Tower due to light
  23. I feel like these are two separate complaints. Queer characters don't have to do anything special to justify existing. If you're searching for a character whose story actually delves into being queer and the difference in treatment regarding that, Renarin and Rlain are there. Of course, if you have problems with those particular portrayals you're welcome to share them, and you're likely to make good points.
  24. Hmm. No one has made this connection before, and I really like it. That said, didn't Night leave well after Honor and Cultivation showed up, while the 4th moon crashed before they were there? It's still possible that Night discovered whatever pool is there and then decided to shroud it ...
  25. Brandon once said that Hoid seeks to "return that which once was." It's possible he wants to fully resurrect some random love interest or Jerick or the king or w/e, but I'd put money on him wanting to resurrect Adonalsium.
