  1. True, and please correct me if I am wrong, but wasn't Shallan's mother working with the Skybreakers, and her father was the one working with the Ghostbloods?
  2. I don't think I've seen anyone mention it yet - and I have no evidence to support this - what if Charanarach (AKA Shallan's Mother) is in the ghostbloods meeting and this is how Shallan finds out?
  3. Ah, that makes more sense. I think Shardplate makes this confusing - yes, it is made from lesser spren, however, there's 10 different types of lesser spren that does one single thing - I don't think we have a reason yet to suspect that each order's plates are different from eachother. So - we do see the spren manifesting as something, but can they manifest as fabrials? For shardplate, is it actually your bonded spren that is making the lesser spren form a plate? Is it a nahel bond thing?
  4. I agree with Elder, but this bleeds into real-life ethics of animal husbandry and what animals can and can't experience, etc. Spren are manifestations of concepts, so I won't stake my claim in anything here so, @alder24, agree to disagree? I'm sure by the end of the book we'll learn more to have a proper discussion (hopefully avoiding real-life dubious topics on animals)
  5. I disagree, how is it slavery if the flamespren are doing it willingly? They're not sapient in the same way a radiant spren is, they seem to be more like an animal. Calling them as intelligent as a dog might even be a stretch. Besides that, it might not be possible to manifest a lesser spren as a fabrial - it was implied that the spren that are manifesting are radiant spren
  6. Great read! My only (minor) thought is that instead of bind, perhaps the dawnshard is Connect? This seems more in line with the general nomenclature you'll find everywhere.
  7. I have been hoping that they get some unexpected chance to take back Alethkar, Jah Keved, etc. The current state of the world is pretty heavily favored towards odium, so it makes me wonder if the back half will be about reclaiming Roshar for everyone and not just humans or singers. Also, does anyone know the relative population count of singers vs humans? 'hundreds of thousands' has been reported for the number of singers, is this true? And would the humans be in the hundreds of millions like medieval Eurasia?
  8. Brandon has suggested reading The Sunlit Man before Wind and Truth. Otherwise, the other things you haven't read are all still good. I don't see Tress and Yumi being relevant, it is unlikely but possible for Emperor's Soul to be relevant, and White Sand has already had a minor 'cameo' from part of its magic system.
  9. Continuing from @Unhurried - I feel that introducing Hoid's Dawnshard would be a little awkward narratively, when we had a whole novella setting up this other one (which has had no payoff yet). I do firmly believe that the Change Dawnshard will be brought up here. There's also no telling that Hoid's Dawnshard is even on Roshar right now. However, to play devil's advocate, we do know that Zellion gets the dawnshard from Hoid eventually, so unless Zellion leaves Roshar to get it, Hoid would've had to bring it in system. Either way, I do hope a dawnshard is used at some point. I had thought that the Change shard could be used to either unite the splinters of honor, or to change the intent of Odium/
  10. That would create a sort of ironic way to resolve the issue; sure, you can't punch your neighbor Joe, but you can burn down his house. Children can still starve, they just won't fight for food. This wouldn't fix any of the institutional things that Odium was talking about, but I don't think that Odium is fit to fix those, anyways. Either way, wouldn't Change be more useful to someone seeking to conquer?
  11. Maybe these 'give it to me' words are to take up the shard, not to become a radiant/herald?
  12. Old one: (taken from Lightspine's post) Updated artwork: Here is a zoom in of the differences of the spren specifically: Of note: the "these two seem familiar" text is gone, and there's a new face of a pug-like spren. Should this be made its own thread? This is an intriguing discovery.
  13. I think it's definitely possible that a shard could do this. However, I think this much direct action could leave Odium vulnerable. Sazed didn't have any other shards to worry about at this moment (I think), and considering that Taravangian got his lecture from Cultivation after becoming a shard, I think this much direct action is unlikely.
  14. Wow, amazing idea confused! Although, this does make me worry if Syl will die as part of this
  15. The Bone Phone (as contrasted with the Sel Phone, Seons) is called a Tamu Kek. They are originally from Yolen, as seen in dragonsteel prime. I think this is their first cannon appearance in a cosmere book, but I'm not sure.
  16. Good point, I have been wondering what capacity Rysn will have in this book. I don't know if her agreement at the end of Dawnshard pervents Rysn from using it, but considerin the command, it would absolutley be a great tool. I don't think we're going to see much of it though.
  17. It's possible that the ones going to the shattered plains are to join Venli, as the scouts didn't seem to be attacked or anything. But, they do have a thunder clast.
  18. Don't we see Hoid pouring metal into his drink in the Shallan flashback? Why can it not just be metal that he already had consumed?
  19. I expect that most if not all of the days will be separated by interludes. I was suprised to see that it's just day two, and not two & three or something. I suspect we'll be getting even more than 12 interludes.
  20. Overall, your post is very well read and eloquently stated. Good job. However, I haven't heard of Adamant. What is it?
  21. Virtuosity is known to have self-splintered, maybe they split themselves into smaller shards of different intents?
  22. If almost all of the oathgate spren got corrupted (without anyone noticing???) I wonder what this spells for Urithiru and the contest. Worrying.
  23. Mechanically? I have no clue. Thematically? It does make sense, especially with TOdium, he seems to be more crafty and such.
  24. Wow, what a fantastic idea! However, I have a few critiques. When was there time for her to be corrupted? I don't remember exactly the timeline of RoW, but isn't this a day after the trial? It would've had to happen fast, assuming the other spren would notice. Syl was also present on this scene and commented on the spren. Don't the spren notice when one is corrupted? Or was that just Ivory and Jasnah who noticed? I suppose it did take a while for them to know, but wasn't that because there were no other mistspren as a reference? However, if it's possible that the other spren simply wouldn't know, then this is a very fascinating theory!
  25. I think you have it backwards. The Magnified Ones, that use the surge of Progression (regrowth) simply change their own bodies, while the Fannahn-in, who use transformation, are capable of changing things outside of them, and even one case of unmaking outside Sja-anat with Raboniel. I am not sure how this would affect the nightwatcher's placement, but considering that Yelig-Nar made Amaram have massive crystal growths makes me think that it is similar to regrowth and how the magnified ones use it, while Sja-Anat is the surge of transformation for this chart, moreso than Yelig-Nar. Considering that Dalinar uses tension to stick things back together, perhaps this is better for someone like the Nightwatcher with their pacts and boons? However, considering the amorphous nature of The Old Magic™, the Nightwatcher might be best served left out of this chart. Adhesion is used by bondsmiths to create connections - perhaps this would align more with BAM?
