Hmmm
Still going to read Speaker next, I think.
Hmmm
I just found a giant dead spider under my dresser. Nasty.
Hmmm
@J. Magi I do see where you're coming from, and I do agree to an extent that the characters didn't seem very human at times, but I also think that this was a very unique book with a very unique set of circumstances in which the
semi-psychotic adultspeople in control didn't allow the characters to openly feel human around each other, which was a big part of the plot. The whole time they're making him into a commander, isolating him and trying to make him less dependent on other people for support, and so I think it makes that it would be difficult to sympathize with any of the characters because they were forced to become so emotionless and distant from each other. I think it also makes sense that, from any given character's perspective, the stress and pressure that they each (especially Ender) go through makes it possible for the reader to understand why the character acts and think the way they do, which in turn makes it easier to empathize with that character.Y'know?
SpoilerYou guys I love debating with other people this is so fun

@The Bookwyrm here I was worried that I was being to argumentative . . . you weren't at all!! I totally respect your opinion as well.
@Through The Living Glass I see your point, however I'd argue that the book doesn't do enough to actually say that. No one really calls out the actions of the adults as wrong, and they certainly don't get punished for their literal crimes. That's frustrating--when an author doesn't call out immoral actions it can feel like their condoning them, even if they don't mean to. The inhumanness of the characters is practically glorified. Your supposed to be glad, that Ender has been twisted into what he is. At least that's how I read it.
SpoilerI also like debating lol ! !
@Edema Rue yess that's so true! I always try to remind myself that I book I don't like brings joy to someone else.
