Thanks! I do indeed have another job lined up, as well as other major blessings in my life that will allow me to be a lot more flexible with my schedule. I'm so excited to finally have a life again!

Any other chronicly ill Sanderson fans?
KChan replied to TheChronicFeruchemist's topic in General Discussion
I wouldn't call it a chronic illness - especially compared to what other people have to go through - but I do have a mild case of Neurocardiogenic Syncope, meaning that I can suddenly and unpredictably feel very dizzy and have to sit or lie down. Generally though, as long as I avoid exerting myself to a crazy extent or spending too much time in extreme heat (a feat in and of itself in Florida), I'm usually fine. I don't think it's really fair to compare what I have to a serious chronic illnesses, though. -
I would like to announce that I've returned from the soul-sucking abyss of working in food service! Hooray!

As you guys might have seen in the news topic, I've kicked off an art search for the Coppermind, so we can better illustrate the worlds and inhabitants of Brandon's work. One of my favorite parts of wiki-walking has always been admiring the pictures I found, and it's something I've sorely missed when it comes to the Coppermind. Rather than pulling random images off Google and Deviantart, though, I decided to invite our brilliant fanartists out there to contribute directly, choosing the works they contribute and how they're credited. I want to make sure we have a place to discuss the search in case people have questions or anything they'd like to add, but since a news post isn't the best place to do that, here we are. Don't forget to spread the word - if you happen to know any awesome fanartists, let them know that we need their help! The more people participate, the better the end result will be. Thanks, guys!

Thanks for your help, Joe! Since the issue has been resolved, I'm going to go ahead and unpin this topic. If it comes up again, of course, feel free to re-sticky it.

Calling All Artists! The Coppermind Wants YOU!
KChan replied to KChan's topic in 17th Shard Discussion
Reminder: This is not the place to request artwork for yourself. The Creator's Corner is filled with many talented people; if you have any art requests, you can post them there. Please remember that hijacking threads is inappropriate, and while there is a place for all types of fun content in our community, it isn't in someone else's thread. That said, I'll be locking this topic. You can visit the discussion thread in the Coppermind forum for any questions, comments, etc about the art search. Thanks! -
Dear Brandon Sanderson Fan Artists, The Coppermind needs your help! As you may know already, we are always striving to improve the quality and quantity of the content on our very own wiki, The Coppermind. However, we're still sorely lacking a crucial element: artwork. In a fandom that doesn't have the luxury of things like screen captures or scanned pages from a comic book or strategy guide, we have to rely on other means to visually illustrate the people, places, and things that make Brandon's worlds come to life. And that's where you guys come in! I am looking for art. Lots of it. It can be of anything we have a wiki article for - character pages obviously have an especially huge need, but anything that can be illustrated is fair game. If you're not sure, browse our articles until you're inspired! When deciding on what to submit, please keep in mind the following guidelines: Anything you submit must be your own work. Anyone can pull images off Deviantart; this art search is to encourage our amazing fan artists out there to contribute directly. You're amazing, and we want you to have a hand in making our fandom - and our wiki - even better! You may submit works that you've already done, or create new pieces. It's your choice. The Coppermind, like 17th Shard as a whole, is a family-friendly site. This means that no artwork featuring mature content will be accepted. There's a place for that type of art too, just not on a wiki. Artwork can be in color, black and white, monochrome, anything - but please make sure it's a finished piece that you actually put effort into. Refined sketches are okay if that's the aesthetic you were intending, but please remember: anything you submit needs to illustrate something, or someone, in Brandon's works. If we can't tell what it is, it's not ready to be featured on the wiki. Feel free to submit it later, once it's finished. We're not going anywhere. To submit your artwork, go to the Coppermind's file submission page to upload your submission. Make sure to include a small description of the work and credit to yourself in the Summary field. Artists who include their 17th Shard Username will receive a special forum award for submitting! IMPORTANT: Once you've submitted your artwork, navigate to its page and click the "edit" tab at the top, and then paste [[Category:Art Search Submissions]] at the bottom of the text entry field. This will add your image to the art search category, and will allow us to more easily see your submission. We might not see your art if you don't do this, so please don't forget! If you have any questions, just shoot me a line and I'll be happy to answer. Happy arting!

Greetings from the Tumblr Cosmere Fandom!
KChan replied to FeatherWriter's topic in General Brandon Discussion
I have volunteered to head it up, yes, but we haven't decided who else will be actively working on it. It's one of the things we need to talk about in the meeting before we start actually using the blog. And thanks, but I'm not sure you want to be a victim. It's not fun being stabbed through the heart, after all. Instead, why don't you help think of a title? -
Let's not forget that not everyone likes to stare at a screen all day. Even with e-ink technology, which claims to be just like paper, my eyes can still tell the difference, and they feel strained a lot sooner than with good old-fashioned ink on paper. Those backlit models like Nook Color and Kindle Fire? Forget it. It's the same reason I can't read on the computer for very long without getting a headache. Some people can handle it just fine, but others, not so much.
-
Do you remember where that was mentioned in the book? I totally forgot about that! I suppose it would make sense, though: it seems pretty apparent the Knights Radiant were a position of honorable service, of putting others before yourself. To powerhungry Alethi Lighteyes, that would definitely make it look like they were, well, servants. Then when the Shards were corrupted and the soldiers picked them up to use for themselves, suddenly being a Shardbearer or even just a Lighteyes became what gave you power and influence.

It's sort of like being half-immortal. You're virtually impossible to kill, but you'll die of old age eventually. Double atium works the other way: you can live (virtually) forever, but without double gold, you can still be killed by things like guns, knives, pneumonia, etc. The reason for the Lord Ruler's godlike immortality was that, of course, he had both.

Didn't it start in the chatroom? That's where most of the debate that I saw happened, anyways. Also, we have a thread now. Enjoy!

Greetings, fellow Dragonwasps! Since our legion is growing by the day, I figured we needed a place on the forums to call our own. For the uninitiated, what are the Dragonwasps, you ask? Well, it started as a chatroom debate, and somehow went viral and turned into the best and most elite Legion you've ever seen. So who are the Dragonwasps, you ask? Why, anyone you see with the banner in their signature, of course! Maybe I'll post a roster here soon, along with other key information. Or, you know, just post it here. In the meantime, Dragonwasps Unite!

I would have to choose being a Mistborn. It's my favorite so far of Brandon's magic systems, after all. Though that $10 Billion also sounds good...
-
I've definitely been thinking similar things to you about the Shardblades. There's obviously something that's not right with them, which is made perfectly obvious by things like Syl's reaction to them, the fact that they lost their inner light in Dalinar's vision, and even Kaladin's reaction to the Blade in his flashback sequence. The Shardblades have been corrupted somehow - quite possibly, as you say, due to Odium's influence - and now our heroes are left to pick up the pieces. (Or was that pick up the Shards? ) This was a very good post, Abba, especially for your first contribution! Also, welcome! Good to have you here.

Mistborn isn't "The Cosmere Epic" either, but we couldn't have the story we do if it weren't for Ruin, Preservation, and their conflict, which is undeniably Cosmere. Knowing the bigger picture just gives us a clearer perspective on what's going on here, and will likely lead to us coming to the correct conclusions before people who don't know these things. It's not vital to enjoyment of the books, but if you like theorizing, it definitely helps to have more of the pieces.

I pronounce it the way you do, as does Brandon, I believe. The second pronunciation would be spelled "Strafe" or maybe even "Straif."

Well, I mentioned this in the Lame Superpowers thread, but I have the ability to rip towel racks right out of walls without even touching them - or if I am touching them, it's only barely. Seriously. It's happened more times than I can count.

Holy crap. That is.... a lot of books. XD I'm currently trying to get through The Eye of the World so I can participate more in the Great Reread, but it's hard to find time to read these days. :/

Me too! Now we just need to decide the best way of going about that. XD So far, from this thread, our ideas are: Mirroring/blogging frontpage posts Reblogging cool content other people post And of course, responding to asks/posts/etc. Any other ideas? Maybe a 30-day Sanderfan challenge? Challenges like that seem to be popular on social media, and it'd give people something to respond to. Maybe we can even give forum awards to members who participate (and tell us who they are on tumblr, of course). -
It's not the cookies you have to watch out for; it's the onion salt. If Chaos offers you onion salt, it's all over.

Once you do that, just paste this into your signature: It'll only show up if your thesis has been accepted and published in a peer-reviewed journal of Realmatic Theory, though. Just make a thread for it. And that, my friend, is the challenge. Easy there, dude. We're just having a bunch of silly fun. Also, if you're that eager to get to a signing, just save up for one of the releases, since we know when they are well in advance and all. S'what a good portion of the admins, myself included, have done. Also, see above for help with your original question.

I really miss this place. Kuri, at some point will you please start throwing things at me until I post again? I have to run or I'd do it right now. Just crumple up the scratch paper on my desk or something and use that. To everyone else, I sincerely apologize for my lack of content. I'm trying to get back into things, I promise! EDIT: Also, Reader, don't worry. Kuri will respond when he can. The GM doesn't know every possible response instantly off the top of their head; I'm sure he just doesn't want to give you subpar content. Sometimes people have to stop and think about what they're going to write next.

Technically, the Bible teaches that we are all sinners, and that it is the grace of a kind and loving God that saves us. It teaches that that sin is the reason we need Him, and it also teaches that this is one of the many reasons we're not to judge other people. We've all made mistakes; we've all made wrong choices at some point in our lives, and we will again. We're humans, that's what we do. But just because one person's sin is different than mine doesn't give me any right to judge or look down on them in any way. I'm far from perfect, so who am I to judge someone else? That said, I know you were talking about the LDS church specifically, but there are Christians out there who believe there is nothing wrong with being gay (or bi, or transgendered, etc); I happen to be one of them. It all depends on how you interpret scripture, and what your own conscience tells you. We all interpret these things very differently; that's why we have different worldviews in the first place. No matter what each individual believes, though, the most important thing to remember - in my own opinion - is what Jesus Christ himself said: "Love your neighbor as yourself." (Mark 12:31) Not just our straight neighbors, not just our Christian neighbors, not just the people we like. Everyone. In the end, I think that's really all that matters.

Yeah, it's sort of a thing on Roshar. And since the debate was never settled..... dragonwasp signature. Because.
