Maybe I misunderstand entropy but can't entropy decrease without a violation if energy is added to the system (thus increasing the entropy of another system) I think that is what is happening when color is drained to perform an awakening.

Theory: Hemalurgy can transfer any Investiture
discipleofhoid replied to discipleofhoid's topic in Cosmere Discussion
1. The only metals that might be able to steal Investiture or attributes from other planets would be the ones we haven't seen yet. I would probably say only lerasium or atium and their alloys - These metals don't exist on other planets so no accidental discovery. The human attribute stealing ones are actually stealing the parts of preservation in people on Scandrial so they would not work either. 2. Also what are the odds of a piece of metal killing 1 person and then stabbing another in the exact spot needed to transfer attributes by accident? Location does matter for hemalurgy. -
m*d/t does not take into account the directional nature of momentum. Velocity is a vector unit of distance/time. That means it includes the direction. The difference is important. The momentum of the object is changed at the time bubble boundary in at least 2 ways - The objects direction of travel changes and there appears to be a change in the speed(d/t) portion as well. You are right about sensing the warps however they would have one advantage in developments in this field over us - namely a know method of compressing and expanding time. Knowing where to look for the warps and having a known field to examine would make space-time warps alot easier to research. Edit to add new info: So basically the energy from the momentum changes of objects leaving time bubbles can be harnessed for FTL - lets find out how.

Theory Statement: Well Founded: Breath is the spiritual connection of a person to Endowment. In 17th Shard terms it is the investiture on Nalthis. While it is slightly echoed on the Physical Realm it is primarily of the Spiritual Realm. More questionable: Breath is a part of the persons SpiritWeb that is configured to be removable and transferable. This would mean that Awakening is a partner to hemalurgy. Where hemalurgy deals with removing parts of the SpiritWeb by force. Awakening is the voluntery endowment of someone or something else with a part of your SpiritWeb. Where the interactions of the metallic arts are hard coded into the SpiritWeb the interactions of Awakening are soft coded at the time of the transfer with the Command. Reasoning behind theory: Basic Assumptions: At the 11/10/11 signing in response to the question Can someone gain magics of another world Brandon said: As we can see from the heightenings when a person gains more breath they gain access to powers that they could not use with less breath. Existing powers also become easier to use. Known cases of increased power coming through a greater connection to a Shard. Scadrial - Lerasium creates mistborn by forming a spiritual connection to preservation Looking at these pieces of information we can see that more breath acts as one would expect a greater connection to the shard to act. The fact that anyone can gain breaths also implies that the shardic connection is part of the breath. If it wasn't you would have to be from Nalthis to gain breath. The more questionable parts of the theory are an attempt to fit what we have learned about investiture from the Ars Arcanum with the way breath acts. Let me know what you guys think about this theory.

As for the relative speed: As for the bubble in a bubble Brandon answered that at the release signing - They stack. Edit to add thought: The auto-mobile was first mass produced in 1902. Albert Einstein's theory of special relativity came in 1905. It is fully possible they would have noticed it. I think we are missing something here. Back at the beginning of this discussion Peter said I think this is important for two reasons. 1. I have learned to never ignore something Peter says - even if it is misdirection it can be informative. 2. There is a rather large issue with conservation of momentum with the speed bubbles. Momentum is defined by p=m*v where p is momentum, m is mass, and v is velocity. In classic physics and in special relativity is is always conserved. This means that barring outside forces an objects momentum will not change. So when an object passes through the time barrier some outside force is acting on it to change its momentum. But how can that be used for FTL?

Ok so the numbers are base 16 but they are written the way the Japanese write their numbers. That is 0-16 have their own representation. 17-31 are written as 16-1,16-2,16-3 ... 16-15. 32 would be written as 2-16. 33 as 2-16-1. This pattern would continue till 255 which would be 15-16-15. 256 would have its own symbol. 257 would be written 256-1, 273 would be 256-16-1. And the pattern continues. This is a slightly better tutorial on that number scheme http://www.learnjapanesefree.com/japanese-numbers.html

But did the well exist before Preservation betrayed Ruin? There was time between when Adonalsium shattered and when Preservation betrayed Ruin.

Theory: Honor's Shard Shattered Like Adonalsium
discipleofhoid replied to FeatherWriter's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Brandon did say that the Seons did not exist before odium visited - That seem pretty good confirmation to me. -
This doesn't answer the why 2 question but does show that the blessings always require pairs. It is just before chapter 40 in HoA
-
If this is true why are the Koloss less sentient then the Kandra? They have 4 spikes vs the Kandra's 2.
-
Then why the pairing for the koloss?

Another thing to keep in mind is that the native language thing is an in-world statement. I might have missed it but I can't find anywhere Brandon mentions it outside of the books. So it is entirely possible that they just have not tried it on someone who is fully bilingual. This is probably a Cognitive-Physical interaction that is required for the Command to work. The tones have to match the mental command type thing. As was mentioned before a person who is fully bilingual thinks in the second language as well as speaks it. For example I lived in Chile for 2 years and rarely if ever spoke English while there. When I returned to the States I had a 1-2 week period where I was thinking in Spanish and translating to English to speak. I would say that during that time I would have had to awaken in Spanish not English. The concentration required to speak in English was almost as bad as when trying to speak in Spanish while I was learning it.
-
You could be right about that - However, if these are hemalurgic spikes my guess would be that Harmony is powering them directly. That might reduce the twisting.

From the Annotations for HoA

I have a different theory here. I believe that due to the nature of Endowment, the breath is the entire access to the magic system. I think giving away breath is just a voluntary hemalurgy. If this is the case anyone could receive and then give up breath. There is more detail on my reasoning on this over in the Theory: Hemalurgy can transfer any Investiture thread.

Favorite Quotes in AoL *(Will Probably Contain Spoilers)*
discipleofhoid replied to PeterAhlstrom's topic in Mistborn
“He’s fine,” Wayne said, holding the door open for them. “I got quite near my entire rusted back blown off earlier, if you’ll kindly recall, and I didn’t hear nearly an ounce of the sympathy you’re showin’ him.” “That’s different,” Marasi said, walking past him. “What? Why? ’Cuz I can heal?” “No,” she said, “because—even after knowing you only a short time—I’m fairly certain that on one level or another, you deserve to get blown up every now and again.” “Oi,” Wayne said. “That’s harsh.” “But untrue?” Waxillium said, pulling on his coat. It was looking quite ragged. “Didn’t say that now, did I,” Wayne said, and sneezed. “Keep moving, slowboy. Rusts! A man gets shot, and he thinks he can take all afternoon. Let’s move!” I would use this part for the book signing "because—even after knowing you only a short time—I’m fairly certain that on one level or another, you deserve to get blown up every now and again.” -
Clues, Questions, and Answers from 11-08-11
discipleofhoid replied to KChan's topic in Events and Signings
At the signing I asked Brandon to personalize the book with a suggestion for a unique or rare effect that could be achieved with a metal. He signed He then laughed and said "That won't make any sense for 10 books" -
I don't know how feasible this would be for this site but Jim Butchers fansite has a store section with his books and other items the he likes. It is just an Amazon/Barnes and Noble referral link. They aren't really selling the items but they get the referral profits from Amazon when people use the links to buy. Here is what their's looks like: http://www.jim-butcher.com/store(External Link) For this site you could add links to all of Brandon's works plus the list of books that he has recommended. It seems that that is a question asked at just about every signing. I don't think it would generate enough income to maintain the site but with the other ideas it could help. You might just put a donate button up too. (Is there one of those? If so I have missed it.)

Thoughts on Compounding metals (Alloy of Law spoilers)
discipleofhoid replied to None70's topic in Mistborn
Keep in mind how compounding works. First you store the attribute in your metalmind. We will use age as an example. So you store 1 year of age. Then you burn the metalmind. This releases the attribute 10 fold. In the age example this would give you 10 years of age. You then store that in a metalmind. You now have 10 years of age in a metalmind. If you were then to burn that metalmind you would have 100 years of age. After the first storage you never need to get older to store the attribute. So I don't think reserves were a real problem. However the Lord Ruler was trying to hide as much atium as possible so he would probably try to use as little as possible. So the being older as a conservation method might be true. -
The in book quote is only referring to people not objects. It is quite clear in the books that objects can pass through the time bubble. And the hint in my book from Brandon says something not someone. So the real question here is can people pass through the edge of a time bubble.
-
Not sure if this is a typo or if it is an example of limited in-world knowledge. Italics are added to emphasize the problem. First in Chapter 2: Then in Chapter 9: If Peter could clarify this that would be great - It could be fairly important to theories.

At the signing I asked Brandon to personalize the book with a suggestion for a unique or rare effect that could be achieved with a metal. He signed He then laughed and said "That won't make any sense for 10 books" This leads me to believe that this might be related to the FTL travel.
