  1. So I logged in to see more of the Alloy of Law preview and it allowed me to see the entire essay on the Three Metallic arts. I found this quote to be particularly interesting. Since Alloy of Law is not out yet I have put it as a spoiler
  2. So I was looking at getting this on inter-library loan and ran into this entry on goodreads: http://www.goodreads.com/work/editions/6141716 It says that Dragonsteel was republished as a mass market paperback this year? I am 98% certain this is wrong as Brandon would have said something about it. Anybody know why this is on Goodreads or if there are any plans to mass publish dragonsteel as it stands?(obviously there are plans to rewrite it and publish the whole series late.r)
  3. Is there a quote saying that Preservation is unable to read minds? I can find the things for Ruin but I am not finding anything saying Preservation cannot.
  4. So somehow I missed the other thread where you were discussing which orders soulcasting belonged to. Having read that your stance makes alot more sense. You could be right - it just depends on the accuracy of the chart at the back of Way of Kings - I suspect that Book 2 will clarify alot of this.
  5. Interested? Definitively!
  6. My only problem with that is that from my understanding of the way the orders work that order would not have had what in WoK times is considered soulcasting - I suppose it is possible that through the clouds of time the names got mixed up but it is a little more of a stretch for me then the "oh look we can do what the soulcasters order used to be able to do with this fabrial, we should call the people who use these soulcasters."
  7. I removed the Surgebinding label. It was a relic from when we weren't sure if Soulcasting was one of the surges or a separate magic. For now I am leaving Soulcasters as a possibility. It just sounds to much like the other order names for me to accept that as a coincidence. Keep in mind that when Jasnah refers to soulcaster abilities she is talking about the current group of people known as Soulcasters. That does not preclude that name having been stolen from a Radiant order. In fact this quote suggests that: Also if the order Jasnah belonged to was called Soulcasters it might explain her initial confusion at Shalan having different abilities. Shalan would be part of an order that was not called soulcasters but that had the ability to do what through time has come to be called soulcasting. I am not set on this concept but as it is a possible explanation, barring evidence to the contrary I will leave soulcasters as a possible Radiant Order for now. Everything in ?'s is highly speculative anyways.
  8. I think there is an additional key to the focus of a power. Looking at the other systems every focus can be used to control the amount/strength of the power they access. Consider these examples: On Sel it is an Aon that focuses or makes the Elantrian's power stronger. On Scandrial a person can focus or flare their power by burning more metal. On Nalthis a better command can focus the power of the breath more efficiently or for greater effect.(1 breath lifeless versus the other method where they were more expensive.) To me is seems that the focus is the item that acts as the lens(also called a focus sometimes) for the power. Considering this what on Roshar focuses the power(or in other words makes it stronger)? The only thing I can think of that meets this qualification are the Ideals on which the Oaths of the Knights Radiant are based. This also matches with the quote that someone included above about it being what you have done that effects what power you get. This also explains Shallan's powers since the two Ideals associated with Shalash are Creative and Honest - Shallan is Creative and her spren needed truth to move her to shadesmar. More evidence that the Ideals are the focus of the power. Going through the points in previous posts to see how this matches: A focus is actively used in the magic system - The ideals must constantly be embodied in a person for them to access the power. A focus is omnipresent in the magic system. - See above - basically you must be that ideal to access its power. A focus for a magic system has variations within it. - There are 20 ideals 2 for each power- by embodying the 2 ideals you gain access to that power. A focus variation is exclusive in its use in the magic system.- The realmatic effects of each power are different - Note: For this one to apply the orders would share 2 Ideals in addition to sharing a power. I have not seen anything suggesting this wouldn't be the case. A focus variant for a magic system is specific -This condition is met. By being protecting and leading you will always gain windrunner powers. By being Creative and honest you will have soulcasting powers Etc. Well there is my two cents. Let me know what you think of this idea.
  9. I have been thinking the same thing as I have been looking through the last few interviews. I have updated the document to only list the atomic forces as remote possibilities(note the ? marks). I think the electromagnetic power fits well with Jasnah's lightning bolt though so I am leaving it as more solid for now.
  10. When this link got pulled up into the main listing it was copied as http://www.brandonsa...er/LiarPt12.doc instead of http://www.brandonsanderson.com/drafts/warbreaker/LiarPt12.doc - and yes i know they appear the same but the one links to the file and the other is a 404 error. It is because the forum auto-shortens long urls in posts.
  11. Sure, It is below. I just press Ctrl-F and then search for the term I want to find in the Brandonothology. There is so much there it can be impossible to look through by hand. I am not sure how much of these force will acctualy be in the series since it appears that the transformation magic got lumped in with surge binding, instead of being separate the way this quote suggests. But as we do have this quote I included them for now.
  12. In the prologue Kalak says "The enemy will not remain bound by this." Honor also suggests finding a champion to Dalanir saying that the enemy is bound by certain rules. It might be possible that this is what had been done in the past. A pact with champions for each side that bound Odium and prevented him from attacking Honor. Honor being, well, honorable could not imagine Odium breaking that pact while even one Herald remained bound. Odium of course would attack as soon as he was not constrained from doing so, but in this situation I could see Honor not expecting it.
  13. So here is my composition of the current information that we have on the knights radiant. Several things on this chart are commonly espoused theories. My guesses have ?'s on both ends. Let me know if you have seen anything cannon that directly contradicts anything on this chart. You can let me know if you think I am an idiot for other reasons to, but I probably wont change the chart for that. I have pulled the information here from several weeks of reading on the forums, in the Brandonothology and looking in the book. I will post the sources for most of the info once I hunt them back down. Updated Doc Edit-- So I was rereading this and realized it might sound a bit confrontational. That was not my intent - if you have any objections to things I have placed on the chart please post them so they can be discussed.
  14. From the brandonthology: Emphasis added.I would say this sounds like surgebinding and soulcasting are two distinct magic systems. It also kind of defines surgebinding - The binding or manipulation of fundamental forces( called surges in world). Of course right after saying that I found this: So now I am not sure.
  15. I was reading on one of the other forums and some one mentioned that Brandon had signed a book with the spoiler "Where's Jezrien" So I went looking. I found the following passage
