  1. Although at the same time the religion on nalthis and one in mistborn share a similar name and meta-cosmere are related. In cosmere afaik they aren't but this could be something similar. And with the sevententh shard planet hopping who knows how many religions get transplanted in one form or another?
  2. Reading the Epilogue of the original trilogy I would assume that not everyone agreed that it was harmony that saved them.
  3. I would bet the boon was something more like take away my pain at losing my wife. And the curse was losing all memory.
  4. It can be read either way - either that the words of founding reference chromium and nicrosil which haven't been discovered and they have 16 metals known ( the other 14 and the lost metals atium and maltium) or as we have 16 metals why do we have references to these lost metals? It has only been 300 years since the metals were "lost" so between that and no direct reference to the metals outside of the ars arcanum I would go with they haven't been discovered. The largest evidence for this in my opinion is when they are trying to figure out how the vanishers get in and out so quickly no one suggests a nicroburst with a bendalloy misting.
  5. Most network systems have a delay(latency) of at least 50 ms already. In comparison to that speed of electricity in a copper cable = 200,000,000 meters/ second Assume a maximum area the size of a large room 35 m (ballroom in Buckingham palace) Compression ratio of 4 hrs to a 5 min conversation(this maybe unreasonably large) Note: I am going for 4 hrs outside the bubble to 5 min inside - The other way would be impossible 4 hrs = 4*60 min = 240min time ratio is 240min/5min = 1/42 time to cross normal = 35m/200000000m/s = 1.75 * 10^-7 s time to cross in bubble = (35m/(200000000m/s))*42= 7.35 × 10^-6 s difference in time to endpoint = 7.17500 × 10^-6 So that is 7 microseconds in comparison to the 50 or more millisecond delay on most network systems. So would this be detectable on modern systems - yes with the right equipment. Would it be noticed? Not unless you were looking for it and could filter out most other forms of interference. Most networks wouldn't even notice it in all of the larger background noise values. Also due to the way signal travels in a wire(propagation not one particle actually traveling all the way through.) I am not sure if the refraction would even effect it that much. Also note that light is not refracted as much as larger objects. So it would be reasonable to assume a low refraction value for electrons.
  6. Far from being a stretch what would limit an allomancers speed? Air resistance and gravity vs the total amount of force that they can put out in a steel push. Considering they can flatten buildings with a flared steel push that is an incredible amount of force. I don't see how going over the 90 MPH that is the top speed ever claimed by a steam engine would be a problem.
  7. Those snapped by the mists did not have to have noble ancestors. Alendi was a seeker. That was before anyone had eaten larasium. Allomancy was just so buried in some people that nothing short of the mists could bring it out.
  8. The only one I can find that matches at all is Demoux. Thinker: Demoux Any of the returned could be of course but no description that I can find matches.
  9. For the most part seems good to me. The one thing I would object to is no one knowing what Vorinism was like before the Sunmaker. I think there was a small group that kept that knowledge alive. The group that Teft's family was a part of. I base that statement on the this quote:
  10. Yup! Because this is battery-powered, multiple gems are slightly more of a challenge, because it has to be a working circuit (and I think the gems have to be connected in parallel if I want to keep the battery small, but correct me if I'm wrong on that) but I have some designs sketched out. I still need to order some white LEDs -- the gems are colored, but right now the only LEDs I have are green. Yes they would have to be in parallel for more then 3 gems. LED's in series divide the total voltage of the battery across each led (So 9v battery / 3 LED = 3 V) LED's in parallel would divide the total current across the total LED's. I don't know of any high voltage small batteries. That said you should be able to get small button batteries that would fit under each gem and power each gem separately. With a transistor in each circuit you could use a main battery for on off switching with the separate batteries actually powering each LED. Seems like an interesting problem. /*goes to desk to tinker with circuits*/
  11. a. Not that I have seen and a quick search for spiritual didn't bring anything up. b. I think that the connections between a magic user and the shard that powers them has been described as spiritual in nature. Yep here we go: It has also been theorized that the connection between a Spren and surgebinder is spiritual Off the top of my head those are the only ones I can think of.
  12. Yes I did post that quote - Ok I see your interpretation, I was reading it as already saying what you posted. That basically the two subpowers made what each order could do unique. You didn't assume that from the reading I did. Thus why I was confused. I assume this is the line we are talking about:
  13. Do you have a quote for the something special to themselves? I hadn't ever heard that. (Of course that probably means that it is common knowledge and now I look like a neanderthal.)
  14. You do have a point with the coordination thing. At this point though there are 3 options either the tech has not been developed, it was just not mentioned in the book, or Brandon made a mistake. The last one is known to be impossible so we are left with the other two. While not having developed the telegraph at this level of technology seems unlikely to me. However in the conditions above(Edit: 2 post of mine ago) I could see it happening. I don't know that I think that situation is likely, but I do think it is plausible. Edit: Just for clarity - what I am suggesting is that someone developed lights 50 year earlier, possible given my example above. Then the telegraph took a few years longer to develop then it did in our world. That would create a world with electric lights and no wide-scale telegraph. The other points were reasons why the development of the telegraph might have been 5-10 years slower. Not why it would have never been developed.
  15. You have a valid point if one assumes that everyone in the group was privy to that knowledge. It could be though that the 17th shard started the groups as a kind of prep school and that they did not inform the members of this until they were ready to graduate to full membership status in the 17th shard. Also remember that all ferechemists that were alive at the time of the Lord Rulers Ascension became mistwraiths. Only the 1st gen kandra would have had any of the knowledge of the worldbringers. Even they might not of - We don't know if they could still use their metalminds after becoming kandra. I doubt they could. The Keepers were formed in the following generations and were based on the stories and legends of the worldbringers - not as a continuation of them. So the keepers might not have had any connection to the 17th shard even if the worldbringers did.
  16. Here is a clarification of the KR orders and how powers relate to them. From a 17th shard interview with Brandon - in the brandonothology. So each order has two powers and there are 10 powers total. Each order shares one power with the order to the one side of it and its other power with the order on the other side of it. So I would agree with you that the thing that are not just plain side effects of stormlight would be two order only things.
  17. In one of the interludes Szeth lashed an item to the sky/some other planet. Do this to yourself instead and you have flight.
  18. True - The big question here is how fast can an allomancer control his flight - if it is less then 1 day to take a message anywhere they might not have had the push to develop faster communications. Distance looks about 200 miles from Elendel to anywhere in the basin and 400 from the southern most city to the northernmost. Assuming flying for 8 hours a day that would be 50 miles an hour. Easily within controllable flight speeds If you equipped the allomancer with a windshield of some kind to stop bugs that he might hit in flight I would guess that even the 200 miles an hour to have a message to any other city from Elendel in 1 hour would not be unreasonable. Given that I could see the telegraph not being developed due to lack of economic value.
  19. A couple of reasons why they may not have developed telegraphy: First, The pepole in the city don't seem to care about the roughs that much. This is from the insane miles so it might be suspect but: If communication with the roughs is not that big of a deal in this time period then without a large drive to be able to communicate - and the government grants that go with that drive- other things may have been researched instead. An interesting thing to note is this ocurrance in our history: If instead he had continued with the lightbulb how much quicker would we have had electric lighting in the houses of the rich. Also I don't read the electrical system in alloy of law being a standard electric distribution system. I read it instead as being a direct path DC system. Also Scandrial would have had a much larger emphasis on discovering two metals - keep in mind they know there are 16 metals but have not found chromium or nicrosil yet. This emphasis on finding new metals would could lead to better alloys for lightbulbs sooner then we discovered them. Basically there are too many variables in their society from ours to say that they would develop technologies in the same order as we would. Another thing to note is that US technologies have been influenced alot by what is useful in war. Scandrial would not have that. Edit:Grammar
  20. This would also fit well with the fact that it is you actions that control how magic in roshar works. The spiritual connection to Odium forms through the shardblades easily because they are being used to kill or destroy. Shardplate on the other hand forms no such spiritual connection because it is only being used to defend ones self which is not inherently of Odium or of Honor. This would also explain why the Shardplate glows sometimes - when it is being used in an Honorable way the connection to honor would begin to form.
  21. To me the thing that suggests they are different is the quote this thread started with: This is a ancient poem so chances of the poem getting it wrong are smaller. To me it is difficult imagining a sword binding any creature. This implies to me that the Dawnshard(s) is something distinct from the Honorblades. The other point is that in the prologue the Swords are not called Dawnshards or shards by the heralds. Instead they are called Blades - note the capital letter. If the proper name for the swords is Honorblade that makes sense. If the proper name is Dawnshard then the capital on Blade does not make sense. The only way I could see the Honorblades being Dawnshards is if there are multiple types of Dawnshards and the Honorblades are just one of those types.
  22. Things have changed since this quote. In this quote Brandon spoke of soulcasting and surgebinding as two different magic systems. Soulcasting is now a subset of surgebinding (the transformation surge). That said if one of the surges is transformation I see no reason one of the fundamental forces of their planet couldn't be healing or something like it.
  23. I suspect that originally the shard-plate was not powered by gems in the same way it is now. There are several differences between shard-plate as use by the radiants and as it is used in Dalinar's times.
  24. Wow I thought I was the only one who did that. That said 4 of the 10 pages in the last two hours isn't bad. At this rate(an if I can stay off the fourms) I will have it done by 2:30.
  25. He is busy right now would a disciple of his do?
