  1. Not years, really. Spook manages it in just a single year. And you wouldn't need that much Investiture, otherwise, you're actually becoming a Savant. Stamping yourself into becoming a Savant would just create a fake, overlay soul on top of the original. You might need more Investiture than what the Stamp itself can provide, but that would be to build the expanded soul, and leagues away from the actual amount of Investiture needed to actually become a Savant, as you're suggesting. Why do you think you'd need the actual amount of Investiture needed to become a Savant? You're not pouring all of that into your actual soul so it starts stretching and becoming Savantlike, you're just building a fake one on top that's just stretched from the get-go. Beyond the Investiture needed for actually constructing the soul, it doesn't require much more.
  2. The WoB said that the object's identity is what makes the line point at the center, as the object is often thought of as a single entity rather than it's components put together, and that a seasoned Coinshot or Lurcher could overrule that. The bit about the hand at the end is about (SA) As for Marsh crushing the gun, shouldn't he be able to crush it with the regular 'Pull the far end, Push the close end' from his chest? As long as the points he's Pulling to/Pushing from overlap, the gun should get crushed, regardless of where he's manipulating it from.
  3. I don't think it's quite that binary. Yes, living beings' CAs show up as Silhouettes of light/Flames, but there is some variation and room for diversity. For example, in Secret History, Kelsier holds the soul of a deep sea creature (probably a whale, described as"Some kind of deep-sea creature, like a fish, only as large as a building") in his hand, even though he mentions its as big as a building. Humans show up as human sized, so the only reason I can imagine such a big creature wouldn't show up as its own size is because its CA is diminutive, reflecting its metal capacity.
  4. You're misunderstanding that WoB. The Lurcher can change what part of the object they can pull on, not what part of their body the object is attracted to. We see Wax do this with Steelpushing all the time, where he pushes only on a specific part of, say, a bullet (like when he was fighting Forch). If it was possible though, being a Lurcher would become infinitely more useful. You could control what direction things went a lot more than just having them get yanked towards your chest.
  5. I'm so happy someone asked about Feruchemancy, It always bugged me but I didn't want to nitpick. I was considering asking it on this thread, actually, before k saw the second post, so that was a pleasant surprise. As for the best Feruchemical Metal, I'd say the best for me is probably Zinc, Pewter or Steel. I don't get sick or injured enough for Gold to be immediately useful to me, and the rest are pretty situational. Brass is one of my favourites though. Mental speed, bulk, heat and speed are the ones I could use most effectively
  6. Darn it, I keep forgetting :') Ah, that makes sense. We know that Humans at least can use spikes to gain powers without becoming a Construct, but those are powers and not attributes, so I suppose that does come into play. I think a very knowledgeable Hemalurgist could get around it though, with the right combination of Intent, Spiked Attribute and Spike Placement. Good catch, forgot about that. That's H-Copper out the window then. But other spikes? Hemalurgic Control is more about holes in the Spirit than the Cognitive Aspect, weirdly, so I think you could still control them with a different Spike. And needing more than one spike is debatable, given that they're not THAT intelligent and not particularly Invested, but I had imagined using more than 1 spike when I came up with the idea anyway.
  7. Angry because I typed up answers to so many different threads but then lost it all to a misclick. Anyway, what I said here was that it would make sense for the CA to develop with age to reflect the increasing cognitive abilities and mental capacity of a child or animal. Never considered that, so new headcanon unlocked. It's not implausible, given that horses are indeed very smart and TLR was an Original Mistborn as well as a Brass/Zinc Savant. Side tangent: What if you used H-Copper on a horse (preferably from another horse so you don't make a Hemalurgic Construct) to both increase its cognizance (thereby making it more susceptible to EA) and also making it susceptible to Hemalurgic Control? Then you could puppeteer the horses, burning metals or not. A Soother/Rioter Hemalurgist should forget stealing powers and instead focus on making an army of animals that they can control without lifting a finger and which can spy for them.
  8. I think it is Harmonium for the All-Metalmind given the Primer Cubes, but that's a head canon more than anything. Trellium definitely stores an attribute in Feruchemy, we just don't know what. What if its pain? Not the sense of pain (though you could still do that with F-Tin), but actual pain itself? So that when you tap it, you just feel pain?
  9. Even though we have near-conformation that it's Tin, how wicked would it b3 if it was Bavadinium instead?
  10. Mammal level sentience should be enough to implant at least vague impressions, and being fully susceptible probably falls to the sapience of an adolescent. There's not much to go off of in this case, so we really have to make do with 'probable' upper and lower bounds Edit: How sapient do you think the Ryshadium are, compared to humans? How effective would EA be on them?
  11. I think the difference lies in the Cognitive Aspect of the target. The WoB above says that it works by lapping at the edges of your Cogitive Aspect, so the target has to be cognizant enough to have a Cognitive Aspect substantial enough to be affected by the Allomancy. Think of it this way. Let's say that the more sapient you are, the more you get the inherent ability to understand sign language. If you're not sapient, you can't understand any of it. If you're only a little sapient (which is what most mammals and big animals probably fall), you might be able to get vague impressions from it. If you're partly sapient or still developing sapience, like a child, you can understand anywhere between some of what's trying to be communicated up to the majority of it. And once you're fully sapient, you can understand it fully, including all of its intricacies. In the same way, the more sapient you are, the greater your Cognitive Aspect will be, and the more you'll be affected by Allomancy.
  12. It could be either way. We have a series of WoB's that can apply to either one or two separate Shards, and Virtuosity can be one of, both, or neither. We know this: A Shard wants to hide and survive A Shard has an Intent similar to Wisdom The Survival Shard's Intent is only tangentially relevant to it's want to hide The Survival Shard has not settled on a planet The Wisdom Shard has realized that survival might not be the most important (Emphasis on has realized) The Survival Shard is specifically described as smart twice: "the Shard that wants to hide, let's just say, they are quite intelligent in their decision to not get caught" and "Mostly it just knows what's going on and is smart enough to get out of there" We also know that Virtuosity never settled on a planet, and never stayed in one place for long. I think it's relatively easy to conclude that the Wisdom and Survival Shards are one and the same. It could be that they aren't, but it's more likely that they are, given the wording of the statements. No, she didn't. WoB says she never stuck to one place. The planets in Nightmare Painter are probably places where she stopped for a while, or just had enough ambient Investiture to allow for Spren-like beings to form. Brandon stressed that 'Wisdom' realized that surviving was no longer a priority, so it did want to hide and survive, even if it wasn't the 'Survival' Shard You're confusing desire with Intent. The Shard is prioritizing hiding because it figured that something bad will happen if it doesn't (probably Odium). It doesn't mean that the Shard wants to do nothing else, just that it's putting everything else on hold because it fears for its life. If, after being on the run for millennia, it decides that it'd rather just risk it, it doesn't seem so outrageous to me. As for suicide offscreen, we're not arguing Virtuosity is both the Survival and Wisdom Shard, just the S and W are the same Shard. Even if Virtuosity is the Shard, it doesn't mean we won't ever see their story at all. In fact, There's a WoB that We'll see Virtuosity's story in a later book. If I knew a serial killer was hunting my kind, I'd give up everything else to hide too. Doesnt mean I wont change my mind after doing nothing but running and hiding for thousands of years. There's nothing keeping them from simply being the same Shard at different points in time. So long as it's not the Intent, and we know it isn't, a Shard's goals can change. Does this mean Virtuosity is the Wisdom/Survival Shard? Not by far, even though there are some connections. It doesn't even definitively prove that the Wisdom and Survival Shards are the same. But its far from impossible, likely even.
  13. For the sheer fun factor, Whimsy. If I'm trying to be an actually good God though, I'd pick Invention. If Hybrid Shards are allowed, then Ruin and Cultivation to make something like Evolution
  14. All Shards can (to some extent) see the future, although Ruin is notoriously bad at it. Any Shard can instantaneously move around on the world they're Invested in, and he isn't more powerful than other Shards, Preservation was just weaker. Most Shards would be on the same power level as Ruin. I think when choosing between the Shards, they generally have the same powers (mostly), so the main thing you should consider is Intent, since that'll be what determines what you can and can't do, regardless of your powers. Also, he doesn't steal anything from Preservation.
  15. After thinking about it, I have come up with some, just for you. Connections are extremely powerful. Stormlight's Connection to Rohar single-handedly keeps it from being moved off-world in any way shape or form, So, a Fifth Ideal Soulbinder can, once and only once, inflict the Curse of Binding (not the Minecraft one) on someone, wherein a Permanent Connection is delivered upon someone, forever trapping them at a single location. They can still move around, sure, but they can't move more than about a hundred feet in any direction from the point to which they are bound. Similarly, I have now made it so that once a Soulbinder swears the Fifth Ideal, they must choose a location to keep under their watch, and from that day onward they are bound to that location and cannot leave. In the past, this meant that important cities or kingdoms had a Soulbinder or two permanently in residence, but since the 5th Ideal was rarely achieved (or most just chose not to), there weren't too many Soulbound Soulbinders. This whole system with the curse and the Ideal echoes how Shards can't travel after they Invest themselves in a world, and how Honor Trapped Odium on Braize. You can also (this requires Intent and a TON of Stormlight (doing this would likely collapse an entire Perpendicularity on its own)) Connect not to a person's body, but to their Spiritweb, which you can then tear out of their body, instantly killing them the way Shardblades do (Turning the entire body grey and making the eyes burn). How is this useful, you may ask, when you can just use a Shardblade and achieve the same effect much easier? Well, The Connection is still there, and tied to the other end is the Cognitive Shadow of the person you just killed, in the physical realm. The Shadow will be like a Lightweaving, incorporeal and dissolving into Stormlight when touched. The Shadow can then be pulled around by the Soulbinder, put into a body (Like how the Fused shove a Singer's Soul out of their body and then take control of the body), or otherwise just allowed to exist in the Physical Realm. The CS may also be put into an object, whereupon they'll act like a Breath being used to Awaken an object. Moving onto Perpendicularities, a Soulbinder could Connect to something in the Cognitive Realm by using a Perpendicularity as a gateway, then pull the thing out and into the PR. This could apply to the Cognitive Aspects of objects (The Beads in Shadesmar), which could be pulled out. Imagine having a marble that you can turn into a raging fire that won't burn you, or carrying a wall in your pocket, or any number of ludicrous items otherwise too unwieldy to use on the go. You could also Connect to a Spren through a Perpendicularity, then pull them out into the Physical Realm, bringing their entire being out into the Physical Realm. This wouldn't work like what Ishar is doing, because you're not creating a body for the Spren, just pulling them through as they are. Through this, you could bring a Spren into the Physical Realm without needing them to bond with a Radiant or becoming a Sharblade. If you have any more ideas for this Radiant, I'm happy to hear them!
  16. I did mention it's harder to Bind a person, due to the whole Investiture resists Investiture thing, so it holds true for all Invested beings and objects. It becomes way easier near a Perpendicularity, like Soulcasting. If you can get the Connection to stick to a person or Spren, it would essentially work the same way, letting you fling them around as you wish, maybe Connecting them to the ground or other structure to trap them there. You could trap someone to the ground, then Connect two large things on either side of them and make them smash together as a particularly violent way of killing someone. You could Connect an object to them, then have it get pulled at them, almost like Lashing something at them, only the thing would fly directly at them no matter where they moved. You could Connect them to yourself and have them pulled back to you, or launch yourself at them. They can't touch the Connections, so you could leave yourselves Connected the entire fight and continually keep them off balance. You could bind one part of them to another and have them be torn apart. All sorts of combat applications are possible, but it's very overpowered, so I'd imagine it's extremely hard to Connect a living being like a human, and even more so for a Spren, and the whole thing costs ten times as much Stormlight. You could Connect and trap the manifestation of a Spren in the Physical Realm though, and if you could force the Radiant they're bonded to far enough, the Spren would eventually lose sapience, and the bond would (if temporarily) dissolve. As for Perpendicularities, beyond making Binding easier, I doubt it would have much of an effect on the powers, or that they could create or sustain a Perpendicularity, since I wanted them to be distinct from Bondsmiths (notice how they can't manipulate Spiritual Connections, which is what makes Bondsmiths so powerful). Its an important line to draw, since this order is already so powerful and Savant-like that Perpendicularity Creation would be too much. There have to be some hard limits, after all. I found it a bit annoying as well, but where Oaths are concerned, given their nature as unchanging and unbreakable, this is about as well as I could differentiate them. The second is about accepting the importance of Oaths amd starting on the Soulbinder path, the third is about learning to adhere to your oaths no matter what, not even if puts you at a disadvantaged position, not even if means you get killed. The fourth I actually quite like, because it intentionally breaks the "I accept (such and such) exceptions to my ideal" pattern, but It just goes to show just how important Oaths are to this order. It makes sense that they would never accept any form of broken or bent oath, because their entire order revolves around Honor. The fifth is about truly understanding and embracing the nature of Oaths, so much so that (since you are now practically one with an Oathspren) it is now your duty to enforce Oaths indiscriminately. I would definitely love some feedback and/or alternative ideas though.
  17. Pretty much XD Likely, but Brandon specifically calls out Cultivation, so Honor is probably involved in the way you said, just in a much smaller degree.
  18. Knight Radiant Order: Soulbinder Surges: Adhesion + Adhesion Truespren: Oathspren Platespren: Bindspren Surge combo: A Soulbinder can manipulate Spiritual Connections in a Physical way. They can make Connections manifest physically, becoming visible as a white thread/rope, but are only tangible to them. They can create Connections between themselves and objects, and between two or more objects, and can then manipulate them physically. For example, a Soulbinder could summon a Connection between them and something far away, then grab that Connection and yank on it to pull the object closer. Conversely, they could grab the Connection, Command it, and have the object be shoved away. Through practice and Intent, a Soulbinder can eventually forgo the need to physically manipulate the Connection and can simply Command it mentally. They can also create Connections between two objects, then make them either get pulled towards each other or pushed away. This works a little like having Awakened ropes that grow from you to objects or from one object to another, and then move however the Soulbinder wishes, becoming longer/shorter only when commanded to. Creating a Connection requires Stormlight, but maintaining them does not. A Soulbinder can reabsorb the Connection to get roughly half of the expended Stormlight back. A 5th Ideal Souldbinder can summon hundreds of Connections as a time (so long as they have enough Stormlight) and are given enough of a mental boost from their passive abilities that they can distinctly Command each one separately, like A-Atium. They can also form Connections between themselves and walls, ceilings or other structures, then swing from them, lengthening or shortening the Connection as required. Conversely, they could also form a Connection between themselves and the ground, then make the Connection rigid and use them as stilts. If they have a lot of Stormlight, they could simply make rigid Connections to the ground, make them longer to shoot themselves into the sky at an angle, then create and dismiss more to essentially travel like a Coinshot. It is hard for a Soulbinder to Bind any living being other than themself, though this becomes easier in places where the realms are closer. A Soulbinder cannot break a formal oath without immediately Dead-eyeing their Spren, as they are subject to Honor's truest surge twice. They cannot manipulate Connections Spritually like a bondsmith can, but if they use their powers in conjuction with a Bondsmith, they could create a permanent physical Connection. Resonance: They have no official Resonance since they have the same Surge, however they do have some side effects. A Soulbinder can use Stormlight like a liquid and throw it. Wherever the splashes land, it immediately forms Connections with the closest couple of objects/people immediately becoming Connected to the ground and stuck there. However, these Connections cannot be commanded by the Soulbinder, and the Connections run out after a small length of time. Ideal Theme: making oaths and adhering to them. First Ideal: LBD/SBW/JBD Second Ideal: I will hold the oathbound accountable to their promises Third Ideal: I will remain faithful to my oaths, even if they shall kill me Fourth Ideal: I refuse to accept the breaking of oaths, no matter what. Fifth Ideal: I will be the vow that binds the splintering world
  19. I noticed that you didn't respond, definitely missed your contributions You're like the easiest source of WoBs on here, so it's good to have your opinion on theories. Interesting point. If Sazed is acting as a barrier between the two powers, then the whole Harmony Discord thing would only apply to a Hybrid Shard that keeps the Shards within them separate, and not all Hybrid Shards. So the smothering of Ruin is really what's driving him towards Discord. If Discord is just Harmony but with a strong leaning to Preservation, that really could be better for the Scadrians. Again, solid point. I think the truth might be somewhere in between our two ideas. Sazed is a bad Shardholder, and is keeping the two powers apart. Hybrid Shards, when keeping their component Shards separate, are forced into the Harmony-Discord/Balance-Imbalance situation. I think that's more that Spren were still made of the original Intentless, Unpolarised Investiture, their nature as nature and forces personified just makes them closer to Adonalsium's aspect of Cultivation, which is why when Adonalsium is Shattered and all Investiture is polarised, they end up becoming polarised to Cultivation's Intent. Honor's Investiture in Spren ends up being something of a coincidence in this case, unless Honor's presence naturally flushed out other Investitures and replaced them with his own over time. Honestly, now that you explain it this way, you've convinced me. It makes sense, and it's internally sound. The Harmony-Discord thing is probably due to a Hybrid Shard keeping the Shards within them separate. It could still happen to other Hybrid Shards, but only if they do what Sazed did and prevent them from combining.
  20. True, but is being Harmony all that good? Harmony finds it very hard to act, because his Intent is about equilibrium, so anything going against that equilibrium goes against his Intent. At this point, Discord may actually be better than Harmony. There was a whole other thread discussing this very idea, given that one if the Terri's prophecies Alendi quotes in his logbook is "His name shall be Discord, but they shall love him for it". So for the Scadrians (and maybe exclusively for the Scadrians, given some of the things we see in Sixth of The Dusk and SP4), Discord may be a good thing
  21. Quick question. Spren are Investiture, which repels other Investure. Is Soothing/Rioting a Spren possible??
  22. My point exactly. It's very unlikely that Sazed has a hand in the Intent of his Shard eventually ending up as Harmony (As in the Intent itself, not the word he decided best described that Intent, since he had to have been the one who chose that for obvious reasons), meaning something else had to have determined that, and since Harmony is a very weird end product from Not Changing and Destruction, there must be some other factor that determined the Intent. Reasonable, but we have to get sources from somewhere. I think the driving factor for this theory stems from the fact that Harmony's Intent can change. No other Shard can do this, and not for a lack of trying. Just the fact that Harmony's Intent changes depending on the balance between Preservation and Ruin shows that both still exist somewhat separately within him, and if the Intent is separate, the Investiture that's polarised to that Intent (the Intent wouldn't be there otherwise, the Investiture is the subject of the Intent) must then also remain separate to some degree. Harmonium proves this, given that it separates into pure Ruin and pure Preservation (Atium and Lerasium). So, if the Intents are still separate, and the Investiture is still separate (despite being lumped in under one Shard), what, then, is the basis for the Intent of Harmony? Seems to me that it's the balance between the two, and if this is true for Harmony, it should be true for the rest of the Shards, hence my theory.
  23. I love the way this thread is becoming a SA version of the Twinborn thread, very fun!
  24. Idea for Sunbreaker Resonance: Highly Destructive Lasers??
  25. I got that, I just meant that Pewter Savantism side effects can't be too strong, at least not strong enough to completely counteract the Tin numbness, since that would make them act like Tin Mistings whenever they're not Burning Pewter (although in hindsight that's irrelevant since they would already have to be burning Tin to get the Tineye-like effects, but that would mean they would have the Tin Savant levels of senses already, making the Pewter side effects redundant) Well, we only ever see Tarson in situations where he would, as a thief and bandit, be Burning Pewter already, so it's not too much of a stretch to assume he's always at least lightly Burning Pewter when we see him. How much would being Koloss-Blooded have an effect on his Savantism?
