I've had two separate ideas about this spren, although I'm not sure if they're any good. One is that it's just an oceanspren, and it's so large because Roshar just has one ocean, so there only needs to be one oceanspren. The other idea I had is that it might have once been the spren of a Herald. We don't know if they had any spren, but if this one could be bound it sure would have a lot of power. Maybe it's a Dawnsinger? They're also supposed to be spren.

Well from what I understand, it's very far in the future. From what I've read, he's going to be trying to release two Stormlight books every three years. Between these he'll be writing Alloy sequels, an Elantris sequal, as well as an annotated version of the origional book, somewhere around 2015. When he completes the first five Stormlight books, he will be diving into the second Mistborn Trilogy. I don't think he has any idea when Nightblood is coming out. It's probably a fairly involved process, because he says he'll write Nightblood in the same way he wrote Warbreaker, with heavy fan feedback. It'll probably take time to sort through all the opinions.

I would like to announce that I just spent 5 minutes trying to figure out why all my recent posts said that they were from yesterday. Turns out it's past midnight. Just more evidence that I desperately need sleep.

It has been confirmed: And for anyone who's worried that this guy may be saying Shardholder and meaning Shardbearer he definitely means someone who holds a Shard. If you click on the link he refers to Sazed as a Shardholder, and Brandon explains why he doesn't like the term. So, I for one am glad Hoid isn't a Shard. It's nice to have the little guy kicking butt.

I loved it as well. I think it's probably the best book to movie adaptation I've seen, at least in terms of sticking to the plot. That probably has something to do with the fact that Suzanne Collins is a producer. I agree that I was hoping for the fire to be a bit more dramatic, in the book they had headdresses and their whole bodies were covered in flames, and they were said to look otherworldly. It seemed to me you probably could have put them out with a bucket of water. Other then that I had very few complaints. I liked how the commentary from Caesar the audience understand what Katniss was thinking, like about the mines. I also liked seeing Haymitch try to sell people on Katniss. I wish that District 11 had sent her the bread, but there was no set-up in the training facility, so it would have had less impact. Now I see that some idiot is going off his rocker on Twitter because Cinna and Rue were black. I can't even believe it. If the person read the book, people from District 11 were described as darker skinned and Cinna's ethnicity was never mentioned. And even if it had been, I loved how those characters turned out, they looked better onscreen then they ever had in my head.

I don't think he mentions it in the annotations either, at least nowhere I can find it. Raoden thinks about the Aon Rii and wonders what the dots are for, but that's all I've ever heard mentioned. Here's the quote: Personally, I don't believe the dots mark Gold mines. I think if any Aon did, it would probably be Aon Deo, meaning gold or metal. It could be something else having to do with wealth or affluence though. Maybe the location of gem deposits? It would have to be something subtle, for Raoden to not notice a connection between the locations.

Well, just because it's in-world doesn't mean we can totally discount it. The people are bound to get stuff right sometimes. I think that Vasher's categories have a sort of innate symmetry in them, so I don't particularly like adding a fifth. After all, it doesn't really fit with the others. it's impossible to Awaken something already alive, so there can't be an opposite to this one. The others just seem to fit together in my opinion. I could be wrong though. I don't think Endowment would be an Awakener any more than any other Shard is. They all have the ability to make humans, and since Breath is part of the spiritual aspect of these people, they're not really all that different from any other people in the cosmere, other then the fact that they can choose to give a part of their spiritual aspect away.

Maybe it just meant that occasionally Allomancy genes would mutate with Feruchemy genes in such a way that only Ferrings could be produced, but other times, said mutations wouldn't occur, so a full Mistborn Feruchemist would be produced? It could also be that if you're a misting, you don't have enough Preservation in you to be a full Feruchemist, so if you have the Feruchemical sDNA you must be a Ferring. If that's the case, since there were no Mistborn there could be no full Feruchemist Mistborns. We've never had any indication on what mixture of Ruin to Preservation creates a Feruchemist. But Harmony didn't mess with Feruchemy. The Terris population was always very closely related, so Feruchemical genes were usually pretty concentrated within them, either you had it all or nothing. However, two complete die-offs of every living Feruchemist (Rashek's Ascension and the Battle of Tathingdwen) followed by three hundred years of Terris people beggining to mix with the other populations has now caused it to be more likely that you'll end up a Ferring then a full Feruchemist. To the best of my knowledge Harmony wasn't involved at all in that process. Unless you have seen a quote that proves otherwise?
-
Hmm, did you get the impression from the term the Lord Mistborn? He certainly was one of the last, but we don't know who all of the Originators so there could be others. I don't believe Harmony removed the possibility of becoming a Mistborn, the Allomancy has become diluted in the centuries, so there are no mistborn, but many more, less powerful mistings. The same goes for Feruchemists and Ferrings. Here are some relevant quotes: Has anyone ever seen that last quote before? I've never heard that Allomancy genes messed with Feruchemy, but it's from a verbatim interview so there could have been a mistake.

From what Chaos says, I think a chatroom sounds great! The chatbox at the bottom would still be there, correct? Because I love that thing. I think you're right about the cosmere Q&A's though. I'm sure on the days when Brandon mentions we're having a contest there are literally dozens of people who still have no idea all his works are related. It would be nice to have a place where they can all just ask whatever they want, and we can bring them up to speed relatively quickly.
-
Oh jeez... So Scadrial's year length got shorter for 1026 years or so, and then went back. Hopefully Brandon's got this all worked out somewhere.
-
Choosing what event to make year zero is a tough one. I think that Oathpact would be tough to use for year 0, since we only know when it happened relative to Way of Kings. A truly comprehensive timeline will be tough to make, since the Shardworlds' years probably aren't all perfectly equivalent. I'm pretty sure TWoK and Warbreaker both have years around the same length as our own. I think that eventually, years down the line when we have a better idea of when everything is in relation to each other, either the Shattering or the Creation of of the cosmere would be good year zeros. I think Creation would probably be better, so we don't have to divide time periods into BS (Before Shattering) and AS (After Shattering).

But there couldn't have been any Original Elantrians, if there was no Shaod to create them. Regardless of how much Devotion they have in them, they aren't Elantrians, and thus couldn't draw Aons. Unless you believe they all had so much Devotion that anyone could draw Aons? Anyway it's my belief that Odium killed all the Elantrians and possibly Dakhor Monks when he Splintered Aona and Skai. He probably brought some Voidbringers with him, and killed every last one. Too bad AonDor is so slow.
-
Thanks Zas! THat first one was what I was looking for. I knew there was a reference to Elantrians building Elantris somewhere. Oh, by the way, I love those descriptions on the Aonic jewelry as well. I wish all of the Aons had one. So there is a definitely a contradiction here. The Shaod cannot be an affect of Elantris, because the city couldn't have been built in the shape of an Aon until the Shaod made an Elantrian. I wonder what's wrong.

The Parshmen are Shardblades and Plates
Windrunner replied to anthonydraco's topic in Stormlight Archive
I'm fairly certain that is just a poetic way of explaining that Surgebinders vanished for a while. If you think about it, there's penty of magic on Roshar. Off the top of my head there's spren, fabrials, Shardplate,Shardblades, Kaladin the Windrunner, and Jasnah and Shallan who are in other Orders that haven't been explicitly confirmed yet. Brandon has said he purposely wrote TWoK to have the magic in the background a little bit, and not a huge plot focus. In response to your theory, I personally doubt it, no offense to you. There were many Voidbringers in the Desolations. You use the Prelude for evidence, but not everyone is using Plate and Blade. Shouldn't there be an abundant supply? My belief has always been that a Radiant's Plate and Blade were personal to them, and manifested when they were completely indoctrinated into their Order after speaking the 5 Oaths. However, you are completely entitle to your own opinion, and it's nice to get a different perspective on where Plate and Blade come from. -
I think I'm going to go back to Aona built it for them. I cannot find that quote anywhere about her helping them build it, so unless someone else has, I don't believe it exists. My mind is clearly going...

Personally, I don't believe it likely. We have no knowledge of how the Shattering occurred, aside from Hoid was there. Who knows if he had the opportunity to take power from any of the Shards let alone all 16. They might have gone straight to their original holders. I also don't believe it is possible to create Splinters unless you have a Shard and either Splinter another or yourself. Also Hoid isn't really challenging Odium to a one-on-one fight here. Hoid even mentions hiding from someone (possible Odium). He's more openly present in the Stormlight Archive, but I believe he's still pulling the strings behind the scenes as well.

That is a good point about the atium. Maybe they could steal all the powers of a mistborn at once? Marsh couldn't have had it done to him because they would have needed a skaa mistborn, which would have been extremely rare. If that doesn't work, I wonder what powers TLR received with his atium spikes?
-
The problem with being a Sliver is that we don't actually know what it does to you. The definition is a person who has held a large portion of a Shard's raw power. Brandon says this leaves some sort of remnant behind, with unknown affects. Mistborn WoA spoilers (I know you haven't read it yet, so it's your choice) If you didn't want to read it, let it suffice that being a Sliver hasn't appeared to increase anyone's power that we've directly seen. I can't speak for the Lord Ruler though.
-
There are a couple explanations for that. One is that the Lord Ruler decided that he wanted to eat two or more beads of lerasium. I am leaning away from this, because Sazed says that he shared a strength level with the Original Allomancers. Another is that he is using a mysterious form of compounding, that Brandon has mentioned, that allows the user to get more of an Allomantic effect. He could be using that and increasing the power of his crazy Soothing and Steelpushing abilities, I think pushing on spikes inside someone's body counts as a pretty "spectacular affect". He would be stronger then Elend because Elend has no Feruchemy and so he cannot replicate this. He could also have used Hemalurgy to make himself stronger. I wonder if an atium spike can store more then one ability at a time? If so he could have killed man with the atium spikes that make his bracers.
-
Yes the Lord Ruler had the same Allomantic strength as the other nine Allomancers, but was definitely more powerful overall. As usual, Sazed puts it the best. I'm now firmly in the camp that the Lord Ruler burned lerasium to become an Mistborn, not because of any affect the Well had on him. I don't think he is counted as one of the "Nine Original Allomancers" because the doctrine that presumably references these Allomancers, is the Lord Ruler's own, so since his narrative is that he is god, then he wouldn't want to attribute a more mundane power to himself and count himself among the Allomancers. He was more then that. Thank you Bunyod!

Ah I hope you'll love it, my favorite part was how it was actually starting where most fantasy books quit, after the "Dark Lord" is defeated. I was going to answer your questions but I think Chaos beat me to the punch.

So, explain it to me like I've never used a computer before. How would this differ from the chatbox at the bottom of the forums? You could access it without going to the site? Would this chatroom require itss users to download anything? What are the benefits to having a chatroom?
-
I think also Brandon mentions that Inquisitors, who are less strong at Feruchemy because of Hemalurgic Decay, have a harder time storing up attributes. It seems they can't go as far as a regular Feruchemist can without dying.

[totally off topic] This is the second time you've made me cry Joe, first explaining to me that I'll be in my mid-forties before Brandon's books are finished, and now the senseless slaughter of the most awesome word I've ever come up with? It was way better then leratium! (Lerasium Atium alloy) Brandon will be receiving a very strongly written letter explaining why Dula should be changed to Duladelish in the annotated version of Elantris. Anyone want to sign a petition? [/totally off topic]
