  1. Yeah, so nick.com tricked me into thinking the new episode was out. I didn't understand why it kept ending after a minute and a half. Turns out it was just a clip So now I'm watching every Avatar ever on Netflix.
  2. So I came across this fascinating piece of information in the interview database: So there's something we should be able to figure out here. Why are these races the way they are? Here's a list of the various traits as far as I can remember. Alethi-black hair that breeds true in patches Iriali-golden (not blonde) hair that breeds true in patches Thaylen-long eyebrows Aimian-divided into two categories. Siah Aimians can change their appearance and functionality of organs as well as cast a shadow toward the light. Dysian Aiman have unknown abilities, possibly reassembling themselves if they are cut apart. Selay-blue veins clearly visible under skin Natanese-blue skin white wool-like hair Herdazi-crystalline slate colored fingernails Makabaki-tall dark hair smooth accent Shin-short of stature, large childlike eyes (I'm unsure if this counts as unusual or not) Let me know if I'm forgetting something. I do have one crack theory, but I'm not sure if its worth anything. I believe that possibly each one of these odd traits have been caused by Cultivation's magic. The people have been cultivated in some way each gaining a power according to race. I don't know how or why, possibly to help them survive on Roshar better. This would work out well because it would give Cultivation's magic ten subsets which fits with the 30 magic systems that Brandon has mentioned. I also think that the Shin have discovered their racial magic. The farmers have access to it and that is why they are so holy. This is possibly because they Cultivate plants, but I don't believe you'd necessarily have to be a farmer to access Cultivation's magic. That would be way to limited. So what does everyone think? What are these traits for, how do they hint at Roshar's past? Does anyone have any better ideas? I'm not super convinced in my Cultivation theory.
  3. Thanks for clearing this up Peter. An now I have my answer for whether or not Cosmere is capitalized!
  4. Hmm, looking at this quote in a different light it appears to me that what it is saying is that directly fueling someone, choosing a champion, like Vin did to Elend expends more power. I still maintain though that the when regular Allomancy is going on, power is coming from Preservation, from his body. Why would Preservation worry about expending energy poorly if he has this massive well of power at his disposal? It makes more sense to me that he has a finite amount of power, and directly using it to power a magic system, especially one that's not his own, is an inefficient use of it. The evidence you have that Splintered Shards can't have magic systems doesn't really make sense to me. Devotion and Dominion are both Splintered, so there should be no magic on Sel according to what you're saying, which is clearly not the case. I am I missing something? I've posted my thoughts on the Dor in the Emperor's Soul topic, but suffice it to say that I think both Shards power all magics to differing degrees. Since they both fuel all the magics and are working in concert, they would appear as one source, but actually be two. It's the best explanation I have so far. Anyway the Power of Creation being separate leaves us with as many, if not more questions. Why wouldn't more Shards form from leftover power? Where did it come from? Why doesn't it just power all the systems? How come Shards aren't infinitely powerful if the all have access to this higher power? The Principle of Intent tends to make more logical sense to me but you are welcome to disagree.
  5. I was trying to get at a way to access all their metalminds of a Feruchemist instead of just the one you could access if you stole one Feruchemical power. Sorry if I didn't make that clear.
  6. I personally believe that you could use the same identity trick that is used to steal from a Feruchemists metalminds to withdraw Breaths invested in an object. If your identity level is low enough, it's possible that the metalmind won't realize that you aren't it's creator and the same could work for recalling Breath. If you were going to use Hemalurgy to trick metalminds and Awakened objects, I bet that it would be some kind of Human attribute, one that moves a large portion of the spiritual identity from the victim to the receiver. Maybe Human Identity could be an unknown spike power?
  7. The end-sheets are representations of in-world stained glass windows. Not the most accurate source of information, but I tend to believe that Shadesmar, as the Cognitive Realm which I believe is influenced by the other two Realms, is a reflection of the Physical World. I don't think the Cognitive aspects being in the form of beads has anything to do with the currency of Roshar though. There are flames there two, which have been proposed to be human cognitive aspects.
  8. What you're staring at here is at the heart of a disagreement between Chaos and Zas. They both interpret said, "Powers of Creation," quote in different ways and have formulated theories based on their own interpretation. Zas's theory is the Power of Creation, and he views this quote in much the same way as you. He believes, as I understand it, that the Shards are nothing more then gateways to a larger power, the Power of Creation, that is infinite, and possibly left over from the Shattering. Zas says that all the Shards can draw on the power there, but can only use so much as time. He's also divided the magics up into Shard Powered, Human Powered, and the Power of Creation. He also believes that the Dor is the same as the Power of Creation. Chaos looks at it differently in the Principle of Intent. He believes (as do I) that the the Power of Creation is the Shards, and so what Brandon meant when he referenced to Vin tapping into the the Power of Creation was that she was using Preservation's power. He believes that there is no infinite well of power and the Shards are as high as you get. When Chaos interprets the quote about hesitancy, he believes that that means Shards going against their intent will expend more power that will return to the them more slowly. I'll link to them too, but you should know that they both want to update what it says in there theories when they have time, so what they said then may not currently reflect what they say now. Here is The Principle of Intent by Chaos and the Power of Creation by Zas. Also, apologies to Zas and Chaos if you feel I've misrepresented what you've said in an attempt to summarize it. I have no idea about Shards powering one another. My gut says no, but I have no evidence to back that up so I could be crazy.
  9. Wow, I think I remember that. It is interesting. Especially considering that if the Seventeenth Shard wanted to get an up close view of Kaladin and Surgebinding there would be no better place then as a bridgeman. I wonder if any Seventeenth Shard members saw Szeths attack on the king. If the Ars Arcanum is written by them (unknown) then it would help them to see what Surgebinding does and have the information present there. But some information could have also come from historical sources. If the men interrogating Elhokar weren't Gallodon & co. then I bet they could be other Worldhoppers.
  10. See, I'd agree except for the fact that regular Breaths have the same affects (minuse healing and perfect appearance) that the Divine Breaths have. Once you reach the Fifth Hightening you have all the same powers as a Returned. The color, sound, agelessness and perfect healing are all the same. Just as Honor's Stormlight returns to the Shard itself, so will Breath to Endowment once its holder dies or if the item it is invested in is totally destroyed. I really doubt that most every person ever has given away their Breath so the power issue won't be a problem. The fact is, we know that every persona has spiritual energy inside of them, that energy has always seemed to arise from the Shard of the planet. (or if the Shard didn't create the people then their presence gradually changes them, as evidenced the Aonic mutation that allows them to be taken by the Shaod.) So if the people of Nalthis are passing, Endowing, spiritual energy around then it makes sense to me that its of Endowment. The power that fuels Allomancy comes from Preservation, Hemalurgy from Ruin, and Surgebinding from Honor. It doesn't make sense to me that the power to fuel Awakening wouldn't be of Endowment. You are, of course, entitled to your own opinion though.
  11. That's awesome, I thought I'd heard this somewhere, but wasn't sure. It's nice to have confirmation. It'll be neat to read these books again a couple years down the road and see all the worldhoppers we missed, even if they are as unobtrusive as Hoid in WoA. I wonder which, (unpublished) book that the third member of Gallodon's party is from.
  12. Well, Brandon says this in the Mistborn Adventure Game as well.
  13. I'm afraid I have to disagree with you on this. There are numerous mentions of Shallan in relation to ten heartbeats. She even thinks about ten heartbeats when she needs a weapon. Ten heartbeats is the length of time it takes to summon a Shardblade. I also don't think it's as simple as finding a buyer. Shardblades are extremely valuable and there would likely be an inquiry into how such a lowly family ended up with a Shardblade, something Shallan doesn't want, lest she be executed for murdering her father. Also it's extremely possible that what the Ghostbloods are actually looking for is the Shardblade, rather then the Soulcaster. So they could be in serious danger if they tried to sell it
  14. I really think Dragonsteel is part of the cosmere. Someone brought this up a while ago, and I stand by what I said there. Hoid is from there, and presumably saw Andonalsium Shatter there, all of which is extremely cosmere relevent. I won't say impossible, but I find it highy unlikely that this is a different universe.
  15. Not necessarily. Neither atium nor malatium are powered by Preservation. So it's not inconceivable that instead of drawing on Preservation's power when burning this invested metal you would draw on Endowment's. Well, in my opinion at least, even the smaller Breaths are still powered by Endowment. The Breaths seem to be a part of the person's spiritual aspect, and Endowment is the Shard on Nalthis, so the power that drives them presumably belongs to Endowment. So if even smaller Breaths are part of Endowment, then making more of them would increase Endowments power and be impossible. Another alternate idea is that, since some Breaths are stronger then others, you could possibly draw more power from Endowment to make the Breaths in the metal stronger. Whether or not these stronger Breaths would transfer to you when the metal is gone.
  16. I'm not sure if he and Vin had any scenes together after this point but he did lead the koloss through the Homeland to the Trustwarren and discovered that the Trust was empty of atium. So he presumably survived the Ascension and was changed into a true-breeding koloss by Sazed. I hope that helps.
  17. I'm not the wiki admin, so Joe probably knows better then I. However I would have to guess that it's not quite out of the stub woods yet. If it had a section on Human's role in MB3 then I'd say it was completely done, and didn't need any more information and should no longer be classified as a stub. If it's something that had next to no information anywhere and was impossible to expand that would be one thing. I'm not exactly in the know on wiki policy though, so I'm sure Joe or Chaos has a better idea of what's up. Edit: I just gave it a quick cleanup for you, but nice work. I fixed the nobility link and used a template on the reference as well as added it to the Mistborn category.
  18. I tend to believe that a Shard has a max possible power level, so I don't see it creating new Breaths or Splinters to boost a Shard's power. Could it just possibly give an Allomancer alternate powers like god-metal alloys do? Since the real power comes from the Shard that created the metal (atium or lerasium), it's not really all that much different. Instead of a metal the Breath would just add spiritual power and would perhaps be expended as a fuel instead of Preservation. Who knows what kind of effect Endowment's intent could have on the metals' powers
  19. I think that they could probably create any metal that is a pure element, and possibly alloys with more advanced Soulcasting. If you remember Jasnah tells Shallan that it's easier to Soulcast all 8 types of blood then it is to create water. So I imagine that they could probably fabricate just about any metal that they needed, barring atium and lerasium of course.
  20. Oh okay then, I just misunderstood. I definitely agree that a Shard can change their magic system. Yeah Devotion and Dominion were definitely working together at one point, in my opinion. I do think that a rift appeared between them, possibly through Odium's interference. I really think the path of Shu-Keseg splitting from unity to Devotion or Dominion really parallels the path of the Shards.
  21. In my opinion I don't think that those examples really show a Shard creating a magic system. This is my personal belief right now. We know that one Shard has to have more influence in a person's spiritual aspect in order for them to become sentient. So presumably at one point Devotion and Dominion worked together, as evidenced by Shu-Keseg's principle of unity. (not definitive proof for sure but better then nothing.) They couldn't both power all the people equally or they wouldn't be able to think. So they compromised, trying different blends of Devotion and Dominion at different points, making them appear different as well. These would have formed the original ethnicities of Sel. I think it explains fairly well why the Fjordish and Jindo people cannot become Elantrians, they have too little Devotion to use AonDor. (I have decided that AonDor must be powered by both Shards, but mainly Devotion). My personal belief on why the Dor is one power, rather then two, is because as complements, (my theory, not canon) the powers would belong together, so they would eventually tend to end up in the same place, although they would not become one. The power would just appear to be one, because all magics on Sel would draw on both. Does that make sense?
  22. In the RPG it says that every Dominance had a regional ruler. So my question is: Does the Central Dominance have such a regional Ruler, or is that one of the Lord Ruler's responsibilities? If it is not the Lord Ruler, who was it during the time of the Mistborn: The Final Empire?
  23. The Expanse of the Densities is another world we have seen, so it could be Sel, Nalthis or Scadrial. I tend to see Shadesmar the same way the people viewed the old world. Completely flat and stretching on to every place that contains Cognitive aspects. So you could just walk off the edge of the Roshar map and you'd find yourself in another world. The thing I've noticed (which I posted in another topic) is that there are 3 nexuses, and three Shards have been on Roshar. Vin actually refers to her hub as a nexus when she's holding Preservation. I'm not exactly sure what that implies though, because nexuses can move. Also there are three Seas, which could correspond to the Shardpools.
  24. Well for one person it may not be so trivial. But for the whole Cosmere? One Allomancer isn't going to change anything that important. It would be useful sure, but universe altering, I don't really think so. We're not sure what it does for Feruchemy yet, but even if we did, it can only help one Feruchemist, and can only contain so much of a charge. It also might not be the only bead left. Peter said that there's at least one more, which means a couple others could be floating around. The biggest thing I can see it doing is breeding more Allomancers on another world in the cosmere. But even then it wouldn't be super effective. It would take nine times as long for it to make as many Allomancers as in the Final Empire, and they would presumably be nine times less powerful. I just don't see it as that significant in the grand scheme of things, but I understand where you're coming from.
  25. Thanks so much! This is extremely neat.
