  1. Yeah, Joe's the Wiki man! He made my Hemalurgy table look way nicer then from the code I copied off of Wikipedia. It'd be nice for characters to have images. I saw the Kaladin concept art too, which would be a great image for him to have for his wiki. Should we use fan art at all? They do it in the WoT wiki. We'd need author permission and some sort of approval mechanism, so people can't upload just anything. It might be more trouble then it's worth...
  2. Yeah, I'd agree there's probably not an actual real world element, but it's been cool to see some of the ideas. I've got very basic chemistry knowledge so this is all pretty interesting me. Well I'd imagine that atium is super-concentrated Ruin power. It's so concentrated that it actually has a physical presence. But then again, we don't really know much about how and why aspects of the Shards manifest in the physical realm. What mechanism determines these things?
  3. I know who I think should get the first one. Eristhe for Herald of the Night.
  4. We might have to wait until Joe gets on to figure this out. Chaos has a book he's busy working on, so I don't think we'll be seeing too much of him this weekend.
  5. Hmm, it kind of worked. It added a column to the right though, where it's labeled image, which is kind of obvious. Any other ideas?
  6. I found some pretty sweet Szeth concept art by Inkthinker today. I wanted to add it to his page. However, when I went to add it to the page it and the character info box were interfering with eachother. They wen't right next to each other and took up way too much space. So I tried to add the image to the character info box so they would be the same thing. But then it wouldn't even show up. I checked the formatting for the TWoK cover which is inside a similar info box and it appeared I did everything right. So did I mess up, or is this not possible right now?
  7. Here you go: And this is a good one too. I hope this helps.
  8. Now that Denth is dead, Jewels is taking Arsteel to Yesteel, hoping that Yesteel, a master Lifeless creator. She hopes that Yesteel can return sentience to him. Although he has a little bit on his own, thanks to the Breaths Vasher gave him before he killed him. I'd like to see Yesteel create an artificial Returned though. It would be awesome, if perhaps impossible.
  9. We know that more then one magic system has been created by Devotion and Dominion. This Forgery brings the count up to 4. AonDor, ChayShan, Dakhor, and Forgery.
  10. Yeah, they told me Shivertongue was making me waffles. I should have realized a dungeon wouldn't have any electricity for the waffle iron. The voices are so hard to resist though Twice? You might want to throw in a third spike to act as linchpin, I think too many more and I'll start to fall apart. Also thank you Voidus and Alliare!
  11. Does anyone else think that being an atium Ferring (if they're real) wouldn't be all that bad? If you discovered your powers while young you could start storing and reach your physical prime quickly. That way you could be older quickly but also be storing youth for later when you are actually old. I also know there are plenty of times when I'm not doing strenuous activities that I wouldn't mind being old during. Getting to be younger when your really old would be cool too. Not my favorite power, but not so bad either.
  12. I would like to announce that I successfully added a new image to the Coppermind, without having any knowledge of how to do so. Once I figured out how to upload it, and that it needed to be a thumbnail, thinks went remarkably smoother. Credit for the drawing goes to Inkthinker. If anyone wants to see the Inquisitor page in all its glory, it's right here. On Chaos's request, more images are to follow. Also I am now a Shard! I never though I'd get this far. Thanks everyone! Also I am Windrunner 18 in chat. Believe no impostors... Lies! !7 is the true one!
  13. Is Cosmere capitalized or not? It isn't in The Way of Kings but it is in Alloy of Law. I always thought it was lowercase like universe is, but Cosmere looks cooler in my opinion.
  14. Hey, anytime you have any cosmere questions let me, or probably anyone else, know. We'll be happy to help out. The cosmere 101 questions topic or the chatroom are useful for that. If you feel embarrassed about asking something you feel everyone else already understands you can always PM me. I remember feeling dumb when I first got here because I thought I was the only one who didn't know where Hoid had appeared in WoA. Things like Realmatics can be murky from the outside looking in, keep in mind that we don't really know what we're talking about either. We're shooting in the dark a lot of times. Also thanks for espousing my Endowment theory!
  15. I just thought of what I want to see in Nightblood today. I want to know what happens to Llarimar. Lightsong is dead, what will he do now? I have on idea, that I think is a pretty good one. If you remember the end of Warbreaker, with Treledees's death, Susebron has a vacant high priest position. Llarimar has no god. It's too perfect for it to not work out. I think he'll become Susebron's high priest. Siri thought he was nice, and it'd be cool to see someone a little nicer then Treledees serving the God King. My only regret is that the book won't be centered around Siri, so we won't see much of him. We may never know why Lightsong could juggle fruit...
  16. I'd love to help out! What does a new member need to know in order to really fit in with this community? Well the biggest thing to know is that you shouldn't be intimidated by some of our posts. When people who aren't familiar with the Cosmere come here, it can be overwhelming to look at all the underlying mythology we talk about. I can see how it can appear to be too in-depth for them to be a part of but it isn't. Anyone here would be more then willing to answer any Cosmere questions a new member has, even if they feel like all their questions are stupid, or too unimportant for us to bother answering. That's what we're here for. What is a common mistake that new group members often make? Let's see, one mistake newer members sometimes make is taking criticism of their theories too harshly. Sometimes I think new members sometimes feel like we are are attacking them, rather then trying to give a theory a thorough critique. This doesn't happen very often, but I feel bad when it does. We really don't mean anything personal when we pick apart ideas, we genuinely love having new posters and new ideas brought forth. Has the community helped you through a tough or emotional time? Yes this community has helped me through a troubled time. I recently moved from my home for nearly as long as I can remember to somewhere else completely across the country. I missed my old friends and spent a pretty lonely summer here. This forum was and still is an escape from bad days for me. Is there a specific event/post/moment where you felt like you had transitioned from noob to accepted member? (hopefully spikes weren’t involved…) Not really, I've always felt accepted here. My first upvote was a pretty great moment though. It really made me think that people thought I had some decent ideas, and I became more confident in posting, knowing that at least someone agreed with what I had to say. On April 1st we had a pretty awesome chat battle in the cbox on the bottom of the forums. It really made me realize how happy and comfortable I'd become here with these excellent people. But overall, I never really felt like a noob or anything. It felt like I was part of the group from day one. Tell me about your favorite meme or inside joke from the 17th Shard. (For instance… what’s with the waffles?) Shivertongue will have to answer the waffles question, I'm still not sure how it came about. My new personal favorite inside joke is one that just developed the other day in the chatroom, so I'm hoping it'll stick around. It involves a spoiler revealed near the end of TWoK, so I'll hide it just in case. Is there anything you think I should know about this great community that I haven’t asked about? Just know we're as much about having fun as we are about theorizing. This is a place where you can make good friends that'll be nearby wherever you go. Also, even if you aren't a hardcore fan of Brandon's works, there's plenty of room for all. There are several non-cosmere RPG's going on all the time, as well as the Reading Excuses Writing group, for anyone who wants to get and give feedback on various stories they're writing. I think that's about it. I hope this helps!
  17. The updates are the worst. They make the computer work sooooo slow. Also opening the store is a pain. I actually prefer buying songs on my dad's iPad because it works so much faster, and can sync quickly. If all you'd do is check to see if the podcast is up, just let me know and I can check for you, so you don't have to re-install. Bit if it's any more technically complicated then that, I may not be much help. I'm only a high schooler after all Nope you can chalk this up to ignorance on my part. I'm going to blame my parents on this one, they told me that you had to do it the long way.
  18. Thanks for making it happen! I'm glad to be a part of the team.

  19. Whispers echo in the wind of the long-past Hierocracy. Some say it lives on and will one day return to power to rule Roshar and the General Theories thread with an iron fist. The prophecy is nigh for the Ardentia has risen again. In all seriousness, there are no words to describe how happy I am. A little over a year ago, I found this site and discovered the wonder of the Cosmere. I lurked this forum for months until I decided to sign up, wondering if I'd ever even get an upvote, let alone become a moderator. So I really just want to thank all of you, all those people who answered my dumb questions, said hi in my intro topic, everyone who's debated with me, and helped critique my theories, as well as those who are just so hilarious that I crack up every time I read their posts. You all make this site the very best it can be. This is the greatest community I've ever had the pleasure to be a part of and I'm happy to say that I've made some fantastic friends here, who will be only a mouse click away no matter where I go. I look forward to continuing to be a part of this community with all of you, waiting to see what next grand reveal Brandon has in store for us and theorizing all the way. Thank you all so very much.
  20. I guess the woman could be the Nightwatcher. The problem is, it's referred to as both genders at different points in the book so no one knows if it even is male of female. I'm sticking to the idea that it is all that's left of the Third Roshar Shard who left for the Silence Divine planet. If Odium hasn't arrived yet, our count of 3 is still accurate.
  21. I'm sure that the moons have some effect on weather, possibly even accounting for Roshar's variable seasons. I wonder if it's possible that the moons could have a great enough gravitational pull that they move Roshar's axis around, alternately tipping it closer and further away from the star at seemingly random intervals. I imagine the math required to do calculations to discover that sort of correlation would be beyond what the people of Roshar currently have. Brandon's typically pretty good at looking into the science of it all, especially noticeable in the HoA epigraphs. I still don't see how the highstorms could be regular hurricanes that were just overpowered. It doesn't even make sense if you picture the stormwall as the edge of a massive hurricane. If it is really so large that the edge of the spiral appears almost flat, then the wind coming off it wouldn't be blowing directly at you, but perpendicular to you because it would be rotating. If that description didn't make any sense I can draw it in paint to illustrate my point. Storms on terrestrial planets just don't move in straight lines like that.
  22. I would like to announce that I once again have XBox Live access! How I missed getting slaughtered on Anchor 9.
  23. Windrunner

    Herald of the Night

This simply fantastic! One of the best pieces of fan-art that I've ever seen. And coupled with one of my favorite Mistborn passages! I wish there was a way I could upvote you for an image.
  24. I don't believe that to be the case. The way I understand the cognitive realm to be is that it is an in-between place created by an overlap the spiritual and the physical realms. So both these have an equal affect on the cognitive aspect of an item. So if something got an infusion of spiritual energy, that would increase the cognitive aspect of the item as well, although to a lesser degree. There would also be an affect on the physical aspect of the object, to even a lesser degree then it affected the cognitive aspect. That's how I explain why Awakened items seem to have some limited thought process, and it is possible with enough spiritual energy to create something fully self aware, like Nightblood. He got a huge amount of spiritual energy, which made him able to think, and also had a small affect on his physical aspect in the form of deepening colors. So since we can clearly see the spiritual realm affecting the physical one, it follows that it can happen in reverse as well. When a piece of wood burns, it is being broken down into different parts. I believe the cognitive and spiritual aspects of the wood would also fracture, and be divided between the new products. To me this makes more sense then the old wood cognitive aspect sticking around without a physical aspect, and then some cognitive aspects suddenly popping into existence for the gases and ash that would be the product of wood burning. Now off on a random tangent, this is also why I think Syl needed to bond with Kaladin to be able to think. She was composed of just spiritual energy before, and only vaguely shadowed in the physical realm. She didn't have enough physical presence to match the spiritual power she contained so only a very limited cognitive aspect formed, that same drive for honor that attracted her to Kaladin. Now that the Nahel bond has formed, he is standing in for her physical aspect, allowing her to become sentient. Her connection to Honor allows Kaladin to Surgebind using Honor's power. Sorry that this bit is so off topic, it just came to me now that Kaladin might actually be acting as Syl's physical aspect. I'm going to maintain that emotions aren't a separate cognitive aspect but part of your own. They can't just appear out of nowhere, they would need spiritual energy if they were going to do that. The only potential source of that energy would mean be the spiritual aspect of that person, and if they take the energy from there, it would be simply gone from that human's spiritual aspect. We know that increased spiritual aspects allow people to think, so that would mean that the more emotions you feel, the less sentient you become which definitely doesn't appear to be the case. I suppose you could invent a third category for when something non-human invokes a Shard's power in some way.
  25. I'm afraid I'm not quite following you. In my opinion, there is no way that highstorms are a natural event that the Shards are altering. Massive world-wide hurricanes don't form ever, let alone at least once a week. I don't know why they have to use a regular weather phenomena when Preservation didn't to make the mists. This is like no storm ever. Sure there have been hurricanes that strong, but never so common. Or in such an unusual shape, a wall across the land instead, of the rotating hurricanes we see. If highstorms conformed to regular weather patterns I'd be willing to admit that there's a possibility that they were partially natural. But they don't conform, they never even switch directions. It's so certain they don't say east and west on Roshar, but stormward and leeward. You are, of course, entitled to your own opinion, but I can't see a storm being natural at all when it has nothing in common with any storm ever except for containing wind, rain, and clouds.
