  1. I'll take that bet. Also that's super poetic, I like it. Especially the unopened book one.
  2. I don't know that it is Surgebindings alone that are the powers of creation, but rather investiture in general is known as the powers of creation.
  3. I don't think you can unconsciously use a word that's an anagram. I don't even know how that would work. But anyway, if the things that Hoid said seemed to pertain to Shardblades in any way shape or form, I'd be less skeptical. If it had been a made-up word, implying that it was actually a scrambled word, I'd be less skeptical. If figgldygrak was also an anagram for anything, I'd be less skeptical. But none of those things are true. It doesn't even make any sense in-world. Hoid would have said the equivalent Alethi word for balderdash to Dalinar, which wouldn't be an anagram for anything. Perhaps it's an easter egg, I'll concede that. But I doubt it has any real meaning to the plot in any way shape or form.
  4. In my opinion, not in the slightest. Beyond the y sound and the double g's there's not a lot of similarities. As I mentioned elsewhere, I think even the Balderdash --> Shardblade thing is mere coincidence.
  5. I'm actually hoping Adolin won't get any powers. Looking at it from a certain perspective, it could be a great character conflict. He's the greatest duelist in all the warcamps from what we understand, master of the Plate and Blade. But now, one of his cousins is a Radiant and the other is showing signs that he's on his way. If what we've theorized is correct, Adolin's father is on his way to becoming a Bondsmith, and Renarin may also be on his way to Radianthood if the spren he sees is a type of bonding spren. That's basically all of his immediate family aside from Navani. Assuming all of this comes out at some point or another, how will Adolin deal with this all of this? From one of the most powerful to unimportant, overlooked. I'd love to see that conflict.
  6. There's not a Surge to fish for, or at least not a name. Brandon's called it Pressure multiple times. He's probably looking more to see if the author of the Ars Arcanum is correct in his deduction that Pressure makes use of atmospheric pressure.
  7. The back of TWoK.
  8. The problem there is that we don't know the answer to a lot of those A couple of answers for you: Unknown, a lot of people, myself included, believe it to be the combination of Devotion and Dominion's power. Not confirmed, but there's a great theory out there that it picks people who are particularly devoted to something. Raoden to his people, Karata to her daughter, Galladon to his farm, Taan to his sculpture, Saolin to Eondel's legion, and so on... I kind of doubt it, but we don't know for sure. He'd have to be a lot closer to MaiPon to make it work. It's commonly believed to be Devotion's Shardpool, and Brandon has not contradicted this when asked questions about it. The failure of the Shaod post-Reod messes with them through their spiritual connection the person they serve. They contain Splinters in the form of the Aons at their core. It seems likely that the Seons are Splinters of Devotion, while their counterparts, the skaze, are Splinters of Dominion. None, so far as we know. Spiritual pressure caused by the unbound power of Devotion and Dominion. Unkown, Hoid wanted it for something though.
  9. I think that may have been the original plan, dyring. Brandon's Elantris glossary on his site says just what you've described.
  10. The Parshendi weren't always penned in. Just because she can't explore now, doesn't mean she never did or that she doesn't want to still.
  11. Yep. It says so in the Words of Radiance description.
  12. I'm not so sure about this one, actually. I think that there are implications otherwise. I think that this implies that people from Nalthis can get Breath, but that doesn't mean they can do anything with it without some Hemalurgy.
  13. Personally, I just think that that's a coincidence.
  14. Yep, Brandon's asked we don't make any forums for unpublished works. Thanks for your understanding.
  15. I'll throw it into Site Issues just so it's in the right spot, lock it, and add a spoiler warning.
  16. I've already gotten a reactions topic going there, so I'm not sure what benefit having another similar superfluous topic there would bring. It might just be better to lock the topic as a resolved issue. Everyone who posted a reaction here is more than welcome to repost over there.
  17. I personally kind of doubt that there would be a Shard on such an unimportant planet. Right now, I'm hopeful that it may have something to do with the opposing force to Adonalsium. Unlikely, but it would be cool. Until we know precisely what the Evil did, it's hard to judge what sort of power level it's on. Surely if it wanted to destroy mankind, a Shard would have no trouble following them across a continent. Well, Blood and Fire are both Soulcasting essences. But it's still kind of odd. Why is it not blood that draws them, but the act of drawing blood? Why is it safe to carry fire, but not safe to light a fire? Why is running only permissible during the day? It seems like there should be reasons there. @Swimmingly Not that appears in the story, and I'd be surprised if there is anywhere.
  18. Well, she's only been dead for what, ten years? There have been people on the continent for over a century.
  19. Buy... That is a marvelous idea. Upvote for you. The Shadows for Silence planet will appear in the third Mistborn trilogy in some way. (OoG: Yeah, I was too busy, and then too lazy, and then too late to play along this year)
  20. I know I've already posted a topic in here, but I thought it would be good to have a central place for general reactions to the story. I'll pin it, for now. Personally, I loved the story. The world is one of the most intriguing that I've seen in the cosmere. I'd really like to know more about the past of the world, the nature of the Evil and all that sort of stuff. Hopefully we'll see this planet again somewhere, I'd be rather disappointed if this was the only glimpse we got. Even if it's just a minor nod in the third Mistborn trilogy. What did you guys think?
  21. So, here's something I noticed when reading. I wasn't sure if it was an error or if we simply don't understand enough. But Theopolis was killed by a shade. So, shouldn't he have turned into a shade? Or are there specific conditions that must be met? Did Silence's grandmother somehow intentionally or not fully kill him before he could be a shade? What do you guys think?
  22. So now that it's officially out... Minor Shadows for Silence Spoilers
  23. Yep, Aether's right on. All WoR spoilers need to be in a tag, thanks!
  24. I've not dived all the way into the anthology as of yet, so I can't give a fair review. I've read or partially read about 5 of the ~25 stories. SFS was really really great, about 45 pages long. Lots of new terms and whatnot. Actually, nearly as many as TES, but that's more a wiki concern. I personally think some of the stuff we see in the backstory there, while being unimportant for now, are deceptive in how crucial they may be to the overall cosmere story. The other four stories I read were a mixed bag. I loved the "Raisa Stepanova" story (I apologize if I butchered the spelling there, Russian is not my forte) about a female aviator on the eastern front of WWII. "I Know How To Pick 'Em" was... disturbing in my opinion. I didn't like it at all, but perhaps that's because it's so radically different from what I typically like to read. The Wildcards story was intriguing, I kind of want to check out one of the novels. The ASoIaF story is the longest in the anthology, which is cool. I read a part of it, but I've never read any of the main novels, so it didn't interest me too much. I'd recommend an ebook or perhaps online shopping around for a better price, unless you're a big fan of multiple authors in there. I bought it for $32, which might have been overpaying a tad, but I have poor impulse control and really wanted to read that story for wikiing. No, I am not.
  25. They may have been, I don't remember. But the guards that Szeth had lashed lost their weapons because they weren't directly lashed. My question was more along the lines of, "Since Kaladin is so comfortable with the spear, would it be considered a part of him, whereas it might not be for someone else who is less skilled and attached to their weapon?"
