  1. That's extremely interesting. I don't think I've heard that take on the rattle before.
  2. Ooh, the second word could be 'Statement' - spelled Statmint. The only word I can think of that matches the indeys word is intrigues, spelled Intregs, making that first line "the statement that intrigues me". That might not be correct though, as the indeys word doesn't have an 'R' in it. The word between 'I' and 'sense' could possibly be 'love' - spelled Lav ? Mate, the phonetics make it tricky.
  3. That's fair. I wonder though if Duralumin would negate the typical Feruchemical decay that you get from tapping all of the attribute at once, so the final result would be even stronger than a typical Feruchemist.
  4. I think the word near uncle is actually 'plead' rather than bland. Might fit the sentence better?
  5. Y'know, this makes me think of how Aluminum and Duralumin Gnats work in terms of Twinborn and the intersecting of their powers with their Feruchemy. Like, Allomantically it's pretty useless, as they're clearing or enhancing no other metals. However, I came across this WOB the other day and found it interesting. This makes me wonder if a Twinborn, with one of these two metals, would be able to delete or enhance their stored Attributes. Like, an Aluminum Twinborn erasing their stored attribute or a Duralumin Twinborn releasing it all in one explosive burst. In your characters case, with F-Zinc, I wonder if that'd give a moment of Tarvangian Diagram level intelligence. In fairness, it's probably something that you'd have to train and most Gnat's wouldn't spend much time burning their metal, but it would allow for some really cool power interactions.
  6. This sounds like a wonderfully fascinating read mate! Glad to hear that you're trying to find the fun in writing again - I think that's wonderful! I'll do my best to answer your questions with my current level of understanding of the setting. 1. I think this is up to your own interpretation. The way I've imagined it is that Snapping's no longer triggered by intense trauma specifically, but rather it's more like the mist sickness. A potential Allomancer is drawn to the Mists and accept a part of them into themselves, similar to inhaling Stormlight. When they inhale the Mists, it causes the change of the Spiritweb, and they become an Allomancer. 2. This seems possible to me. I'd imagine it's similar to the villain Muscular from My Hero Academia - his muscle fibers would become dense enough to deal with the incoming blows. The exact figure eludes me though - would have to run some calculations, but I reckon it'd be possible. 3. I feel that Elendel society would treat them more by what they did with their abilities then their history. I believe the broadsheets mention Steelrunners working in local diners, and Wayne's father wasn't given much attention seeing as he worked in the mines, despite being Terris. Elendel as a whole might be a little hesitant, but ultimately I don't believe they'd be discriminatory or anything like that. 4. Pure theory crafting, but I feel the resonance would have something to do with strengthening specific physical features. Like, rather than having all of their strength come out and they grow really large, they could strengthen just their arms, or hands, or legs etc; using less of their stored attribute overall. Hope that helps! Looking forward to seeing what others come up with.
  7. Can't say I've read any of these, but I found the below reddit thread with a bunch of suggestions. Hopefully one of them can scratch the itch https://www.reddit.com/r/Fantasy/comments/661r25/request_any_fantasy_books_with_vigilante_main/
  8. I feel that it'd be pretty cool having Feruchemical Zinc, and storing mental speed. Would create a lot of interesting moments, I reckon, plus would tie into a more supportive role in the story.
  9. One thing to note here, I think Brandon has slowly brought in the idea of non-Shardic aligned Investiture with the Aethers and Dawnshards.
  10. I think this is mostly due to his Ruin and Preservation sides bucking against each other. The Koloss raids aren't great, but direct intervention might be too much Preservation instead of Ruin. Also, who's to say he hasn't taken control in the past if a raid got too bad? One thing to consider too is that, after being changed to a full breeding race, the Koloss no longer have to fight for anyone in order to survive and keep their race going. I'd imagine that, overall, their race has gotten less aggressive than it was in Era 1. Plus, any raid made up of just koloss-blooded individuals can't be controlled as they don't have any spikes. This is mostly head-cannon though, I will admit.
  11. It was pretty sweet. It was called the Insurgency, and it all took place on a Lego-sharing website called MOCpages. A few builders started the group with a bunch of lore and worldbuilding, and then anyone could create a character in one of the four playable factions. Each of these characters could then affect the overall story and crossover with one another, if they wanted. The more stories and Lego builds that you posted, the higher on the scoreboard you went and the more impactful your character and their story could be. It started in 2014 and went until the site stopped being supported in (I think) 2019. Real shame. Myself and one of the admins are trying to archive everyone's characters, stories and builds on a separate wiki, but there's a lot of sifting to do.
  12. Role-Playings? Not really with that story, though it was a part of a shared continuity a few years back. And on the Shard? Also no, I'm afraid. Haven't really had the time
  13. I think this is a pretty reasonable breakdown of how open combat fares. The Knights Radiant have some truly nutty abilities, and they would certainly be hard to take down, but they just don't have enough holding power against long ranged missiles and similar attacks. Unless we're talking about 4th Oath Radiants powered by a permanent Bondsmith perpendicularity so both themselves and their Shardplate are able to constantly heal, their numbers would eventually dwindle. I agree, best case scenario is a handful of Radiants left with everyone else dead. Very Desolation of them, I have to admit. Roshar as a whole does fair worse, as you've said. An army line doesn't resist aerial superiority, or even automatic rifles, very well. Sel as a whole is probably similar, though I do hesitate at the Elantrians specifically. So long as they're unkeyed via Connection, there isn't much they can't do. Who's to say they couldn't create a barrier impervious to bombs and missiles, or teleport directly behind enemy lines, or make long range guided energy blasts of their own? Especially with all of them gathered together and focused on repelling an army. But yeah, from what we know of Sel, most other armies wouldn't stand a chance. On a battlefield it'd probably be a bubble of Elantrians surrounded by their dead fellows. Scadrial's similar, as you've said. Their technology just isn't there, and while their magic would be powerful in skirmishes, overall it likely wouldn't offer much. Not unless we're dealing with that 50% or 75% number Nalthis and Taldain's pretty much toast at their current book level of technology. Advanced Awakening would be rather wicked, but we really don't know enough to quantify it.
  14. Yeah, this is very relevant if we're talking invasion of Earth and how each world would cope with that. However, I believe the question is more referring to a straight battle between two armies on an open plain, kind of thing.
  15. He is indeed. One I started writing in 2016 and have worked on and off with over the years.
  16. I think the best character that I've ever written is a villain. I think what made me so excited to write about him, especially from his viewpoint, is that I wrote him as a hyper-competent protagonist with a well-defined motivation and very few moral standards to get in the way. The funniest thing was, in the context of the story, the villain's kind of correct. There's this interplanetary war that's been going on for years and the villain's sick of it. One character trait that I gave him is that he hates needless death above everything else. He has no qualms killing people, even innocent people, so long as it serves a greater purpose for a larger number of lives. So, he hates this war, as it's basically a bunch of politicians bickering and killing over nothing. Wouldn't it be so much better if he could end the war and put a competent leader in charge? That being himself, of course. For me, the best villains are those you can understand on some level, even if they're methods and worldview are pretty insane. Everyone's the hero of their own story. That's not to say their motivation has to be deep, but it has to be understood. Even something like ''It's fun to do evil" works, so long as the audience see's that side of them.
  17. Perhaps that is the case. Still, they are at the very least capable of surviving greater speed then terminal velocity. Regarding Edgedancers, their body might limit their rate of acceleration, but not necessarily their top speed. As long as they have Stormlight to survive, it's kind of like accelerating in a vacuum.
  18. Going by their names, I reckon I'd choose Valor. It seems like one of the better overall Intents to me. Maybe paired up with Mercy as a Hybrid shard - to be more brave and merciful? Don't quite know how that would play out though
  19. One thing to add here for future discussion. Radiants utilizing the Graviataion Surge can travel faster than terminal velocity, as per the following WOB. Since we've seen Radiants travelling and even fighting in front of a Highstorm, their maximum speed is, at the very least, around 370mph and, as you stated, Windrunners could likely go even faster through pressure manipulation.
  20. Ah, gotcha. Cheers for that! Yeah, makes sense then that Leeching would probably have some effect.
  21. Yeah, that's a very fair point. Well said. Maybe the reason they weren't successful too leads off of what @Ashbringer said, that Wax wanted had the Intent to Preserve more than Ruin, whereas the Set only wanted Mistborn to Ruin.
  22. Makes sense - I really need to read Elantris again. Been too long. Would Aon Edo be able to leeched I wonder, as it's said that it draws power from the Dor to repel the attacks coming against it. I wonder if it would do the same for Chromium Leeching. I will admit though, I can't remember what Dilaf broke. If it was that Aon, please rescind the point I made above.
  23. Where did your Wits go? If it's not too traumatic of course A bit obligatory, but what got you into Sanderson? What's his best work in your opinion? Which cosmere character do you feel you'd get along with the best? Do you have a favourite or least-favourite colour? Heights; love em or hate em?
  24. This all seems pretty reasonable to me, as it involves the Connection a Radiant has with those around them, so if their bond is closer or deeper, then the easier it is to make them squires. I feel like the mindset of the Squires themselves is also important; it has to align with the requirements of their Radiant's order, to some degree at least. As we see Rlain eventually become a Truthwatcher, he was probably more aligned with that order than the Windrunners (though because he's an enlightened Truthwatcher, this perhaps isn't the best example). How Syl and Pattern feel though...I don't feel that factors in as much. Though, we do know that their bond encourages likeminded spren to form new bonds, and that this comes easier with squires of an existing Radiant. So maybe it's the Connections of the Radiant brings the squires, and the Connections of the Nahel spren brings other spren.
  25. My apologies mate, I'm not trying to sound rude, but this seems a touch aggressive when taking the spirit of the question into account. You're right, this isn't feasible, but without this line this thread wouldn't be about what @SteelBagel wants to know; that being what is stronger; our technology or the cosmere's magic. It's kind of the same as us pooling the Earth's military potential as a single unit, rather than focusing solely on, say, the US military vs all of Roshar. Same with the idea of un-keying Connection-based Investiture access in the case of the Selish and Rosharan magics - the idea being the playing field is level for the spirit of the question. How would we do this? As far as I'm aware, only Elsecallers, Willshapers and the Oathgates can get into the CR without the use of a permanent perpendicularity. Considering @SteelBagel specified that there's no Shardic interactions involved, it seems unlikely that a perpendicularity would form for Earthlings to use. Maybe we could capture a Radiant or two and force them to Elsecall, but that wouldn't be a particularly fast process to transport things into the CR. I feel I must ask this; what's more complicated, a nuclear bomb or a human being? Soulcasting isn't determined by how complicated an object is, it's determined by how said object views itself, and how rigid that view is. The reason stone is so hard to soulcast is because it barely ever changes. A thousand years can pass and a rock will still be a rock. I would actually argue that something like a missile would be easier to soulcast, as its main purpose is to change from a solid object into raw, destructive energy. Now, an argument could be made that a Soulcaster would struggle to target the missile given it's speed, but that's a different argument than that they simply couldn't do it. I've asked the OP for clarification regarding the layout of the scenario, whether they're meaning it as a pitched battle or an invasion. If it was the latter, we'd be at a severe initial disadvantage as we can't access our Cognitive Realm at all and would have no fore-warning. It wouldn't take infinite Investiture, just unkeyed Invested warriors - which @SteelBagel specified in the initial question. No matter how good we are, an army of Elsecallers dropping out of thin air into our main military instillations all at once would be pretty hard to repel. The Elantrian laptop thing is a weird note considering how wicked their powers are. Elantrians have access to near instant healing for any battlefield injury, of either themselves or other soldiers, as well as an Aonic shield that can likely repel bullets, as it draws energy from the Dor to match whatever energy is thrown it's way. That would probably work against grenade launchers as well. Their Aonic energy blasts would probably do decent damage against tanks, armoured cars and the like. Also, we really don't know the full extent of their powers yet. Elantrians are capable of near instant physical realm teleportation, something else we can't do either. Radiants with Plate aren't to be slept on either. Living Radiant plate especially. Large missiles and tank rounds would be their wheelhouse; I don't feel grenade launchers would be. The guided missiles and other flight based advantages are really our biggest advantage and I do agree, the cosmere has little to realistically compare. But again, that's the question that's been asked. Just how much of an advantage is it and what do the cosmere worlds have to counter or oppose it?
